I checked out the Skoda Kodiaq at the dealer yesterday and it's excellent. The storage space and details are tops and I could sit comfortably in the third row and I'm 178 cm with long legs.
The reason the tilt and slide is only at one side in the Kia Sorento is so that the rear seat passengers can only enter and exit from the kerb side, never the road side. Stops little kids (who are usually the ones in the very back) from getting run over.
As an American I find this channel worth checking out on a regular basis. Broadens one's perspective. As Europeans probably recognize Americans have a very different perspective on the size of vehicles. A number of SUV's offered here are only slightly smaller than an average apartment in Europe! (Well, that's perhaps a slight exaggeration.) We don't get the Skoda on this side of the pond and the Tiguan-Allspace is simply the Tiguan. It's(The European Tiguan has been carried over as the Tiguan Sport here but it's likely to disappear soon.) It's usually classified as a "small" or "compact" SUV in North America though its among the largest in that category. And it's usually equipped as a five passenger vehicle. The third seat is a relatively low cost option but it's typically viewed as a place suitable only for transporting a hostage, small children, or big dogs. (Cheap fuel and fast food have a significant impact on our requirements in America.) We do get the Sorento though it usually comes with a V6 petrol engine. The diesel is said to be coming soon. And far from being considered a "large" vehicle, it's the smallest of the "midsize" category at nearly a foot shorter than the VW Atlas and Mazda CX-9, each of which is in the midsize category here. (Remember, cheap fuel and fast food.) Earlier this year my wife and I looked seriously at both the Tiguan (Allspace to Europeans) and the Sorento along with several other "midsize" SUV's. I'm a VW fan with a beloved GTI but the Tiguan failed to impress in terms of performance, even compared to the Golf Alltrack. The vehicle is my wife's daily driver and she wanted a higher seating position of an SUV so the Alltrack was out. (sigh). And though we need it only occasionally, the Tiguan's third row seating was simply a joke. So that left the Sorento. We love it. Comfortable, roomy, and upscale (in its top level trim.) Great cruiser on the highway and sufficiently compact for suburban traffic and parking lots. A great warranty. Excellent room in the first two rows and a third row that's reasonably accommodating. It's no canyon carver but I have my GTI for that. All in all, it fits our needs better than any other SUV.

I respectfully disagree! I think the Kia should have won that. Sure it wants a little bit more fuel and feels a little larger but most people would expect that so i dont think they would mind. Probably more reliable too. And personally i think it looks a million times better then the VW twins.
Kia won less important categories. Having a more expensive, heavier car that guzzles fuel for the one time a month you actually need to carry 7 people (which the cheapest Kodiak can do anyway) isn't what I would call a good compromise. Price, fuel consumption, driving dynamics, infotainment go a long way.
@Thomas Lörinczi KIA has the best build quality and was the most solid of them all, which should be a very important aspect when you buy a car. Also, altough it was sligthly more expensive than the Skoda, it comes with all-wheel drive (important on an SUV) and probably the dealer will make you a good offer (not the asking price is what matters, but what you are paying). Not to say that the KIA was the most comfortable, also very important. True, it has the lowest fuel economy, but I don`t think that this alone should make it lose this battle.
@@GeorgeMariusCracu Even with the 4 wheel drive the Kodiaq is a lot less expensive. Now you add fuel consumption and better driving experience to it and you can kind of get where the result is coming from. Nevertheless I think both cars are great (the VW not as much though).
that is the issue with states. Škoda doesn't have stupidly big engies - anything over a 2.0 is an overkill, because modern 2.0 twin turbo engines have plenty of power. Why would they bother with a 3.6 VR6? Big, heavy, and the fuel efficiency doubles the cost of the car
Average of course implies that 50% of people have more than 2 children :-) Anyway, as someone who has got a larger family these cars aren't that useful. You can't fit everyone in and actually take some luggage for a two week holiday. The only affordable car I've found which can do that is the VW Caddy. It's more van like but much more practical if you need to take six or seven people on a regular basis and even more so as the kids become teenagers. The other thing which worries me with these small seven seaters is how rearmost passengers fair in a rear end accident. Not well according to a Fifth gear episode I saw.....
Out of the trio, I would pick the Skôda Kodiaq because its good value for money, has an interesting design with split-eyed headlights, a premium feeling interior, best practicality with clever features and have a comfortable floating driving experience.
Definitely not any more. We’ve just ordered a new Kodiaq for my wife and it was £10k less than the Sorento. New Sorento is almost £55k! Prices have skyrocketed in the last couple of years..
Utkarsh Kshirsagar if you want 7 seater get Wv Touareg 7 seater version, not that small tiguan. It is not even in class of Kodiaq or Sorento, Touareg is
Speaking of the Kodiaq, why isn’t the 2.0 TDI 150PS 4x4 7 seater *manual* version of the Kodiaq certified for towing like its DSG equivalent? How come Škoda decided NOT to approve that version of the Kodiaq for towing? 🤔
@@kipzonderkop1994 my opinion all of the cars have different spirit and character. some cars like a beautiful woman , some cars like a strong handsome man so that i said Kodiaq handsome 😉
Is this really a fair test? The Kia Sorento is roughly in the same size class as the VW Toureg and the Kia Sportage seems to be in the same size class as the Tiguan but the Kia does'ntcome in a 7 seater version (yet).
Can’t argue with any of that, Tiggy is better as a five seater, if I needed 7 seats regularly I’d go for the Kodiak on on looks, economy, infotainment system and choices of drivetrains
He should have waited for the SEAT Tarraco to make things far more interesting, since the doors and the centre console come straight from the Tiguan All-space. It will also have a starting price between the Skoda and the VW and is built by VW in Wolfsburg.
whenever there is comparison on this channel, the winner is always a VW group car no matter what. I don't think it is coincidence. Apparently they are paid for that.

I’m really starting to lose interest in VW cars and cars from their group. They used to be reliable and good value, now they’re neither. They’re all dull, boring and seems that they’ve stopped giving a shit.Car reviewers should really stop putting german brands on a pedestal, especially VW. I like Seats though, they’re nice to drive. PS The Kia should’ve won this
Sarcasm ofcourse. I always wonder why people comment on a subject and say they are not interested and then reply ein terms they give the impression they actually are. But don't be offended. I am a bit of a nutter with this.
Chrizz brilliant argument, a supercar concept that 90% of people will never own or drive, yes brilliant, you are brilliant. When people say VW are boring, nobody means their supercars, nobody means the Bugatti Chiron or any of the Lamborghinis, or the R8 etc.. Those cars are in a league of their own, those have about as much to do with a regular VW as a tiger does to a koala
I think the deciding factors were the fuel economy and how fun they are to drive. Altho as the whole point of these cars is that they are spacious 7 seaters for families, i think the more comfortable and practical kia sorento should have been the winner.
Why is the Tiguan Poverty Spec? I have a highline with 9.2" screen (Discovere Pro) 12.3" Dashboard Screen, LED Headlights and Leather seats. Its 10X better than the other 2.
It isn’t really a fair comparison since VW tiguan allspace was base model(trendline) with bad sits and no digital counter, very bad looking outside... Skoda had LED lights and more options and Sorento had more options aswell(leather seats). Next time show us prices of current models so we can see the difference
One question : If those cars are for families with haft football (soccer) team, did the third row seats has ISOFIX to put child there and free up space for adult in second raw. Because the last is too uncomfortable for big adult for a long trip and suitable for small children and installing child seats ?
I love your reviews Matt. But it's a bit misleading when you talk about fuel economy. To be fair, you really should try to get vehicles that are similarly speced out. For example, the Kia here is BY FAR the most powerful vehicle here. Not even close, really. So, of course it has the worst fuel economy. You should mention things like that in your reviews.
Absolutely in korea, kia sorento has 2.0 petrol engine. It's 240hp, 370nm. But sorento is full model changed in korea. And 2.5 twin turbo petrol engine is in GT model. (In korea)it is 300hp,440nm!! (I'm not kia fanboy)
Ive test driven all 3. I personally preferred the Kodiaq for style points and the vw for the drive. The sorento was no where near as relaxing to drive as the other 2 and due to the high waist line of the car it was poor for viewing particularly for smaller people like my missus (5'6). She had the seat adjustment all the way up and still struggled to see the end of the bonnet when driving lol. Not to mention the sat nav on the sorento looked cheap and poor quality and dont even mention fuel economy in that thing, 33mpg at best....forget it. Go for one of the other 2.
I don't know why always a VW car or from that group has to win on every test. I am a little bit board with that... Don't test cars with your heart. And yeah the Kia is much nicer then those two.
So where to start, skoda has only components like engine, transmition and just all main technology from vw. But that, how to build the car, interior and how to implement the technology have nothing same with vw. The prize of kodiaq is much much lower and the car feels good as fuck when u compare i with that "bus" from Kia. And i can tell u, that Kia looks so bad, when u compare with skoda or vw (And i don't like wv) Sorento is fat and so big. In this century we want cars, that are big inside, but when u want to park them, u will get out of the car by door.
Volkswagen should make a 7 seat version of the Touareg for the European market (i don't mean the Atlas, I mean the Touareg). I think it's stupid to assume that a small SUV like the tiguan, even on a stretched platform, will have a full-size/usable third row.
My thought exactly. Don’t understand why they didn’t bring 7 seats in Touareg, it would have made a lot more sense then experimenting with mid size SUB Tiguan.
Kia is the one! It looks the smartest on the exterior, well built, has the most space and doesn't have any of them STUPID FAKE EXHAUST TAILPIPES, just as Matt has shown us with the Official Car Wow Stick of Truth :)

@hakimn.6365 Hi, I can usually get around 700-800km on a tank of diesel. I do a lot of mixed type of driving. Mostly short run, but some regular long runs too. All on good roads too.
Hi Matt, not sure what caused it, but I have been using my Sorento 2.2 diesel for 2 months I do get 6.5-7.0L per 100km, which is around 40-42 MPG (UK). You got a poor MPG which is very strange to me.

Mat, Tesla Model 3 has been in Europe for some weeks now, it also arrived in UK stores. When are you going to review it? I'm asking as you already reviewed cars that are not even in production yet...
Oyy I love the looks of the new extended Tiguan...but the Sorento has all the best virtue of space and Korean reliability...but if I were just leasing one a couple ears, I would choose the VW, and KIA for a long term investment. Question is ...why does Mat have NO reviews of the awesome Palisade and Telluride..?!!!
It used to be a general concept of Škoda, when I was growing up, to produce basically cheaper WV cars (as Škoda has already been acquired by WV at that time). Needless to say their cars got really popular on some markets and the company's been doing pretty well, too. As this video shows, they are still headed this direction as Kodiaq is just cheaper undercover Tiguan. And seriously wth is with that interior, WV?
Do a review of the BMW Gran Tourer, seems like a very stylish family 7 seater with low running costs. Would definitely want to see what it really is like.
Great video again! The seven seater discussion... Personally I don't understand why it's so closely attached to the immediate family size? I only have one kid, but I'd fancy a BIG 7 seater as my ride (which is currently our household's secondary car, my wife has a smart and rational hatchback for her commuting). This is because I want a car which can carry lots of stuff and people at the same time, if/when necessary. For example, a ski trip up north with my family AND 2 or 3 more people, such as our friends or the grandparents. And their luggage. I would not need the extra seats every day, but then again, great majority of car buyers in my country pick an estate variation by default, and only need the extra boot space maybe once or twice a year. If even that. I once took a Sorento (Mk2) for a test drive, but sadly I was a bit disappointed... It was noisy, quite bland, didn't feel as sure-footed in slush as the Mk2 Hyundai Santa Fe I was driving back then. But the biggest disappointment was the diesel engine, despite having almost 200hp, it wasn't noticeably faster or perkier than the Santa Fe, which had only 155hp diesel. I wish Kia had offered Mk2 Sorento with 3.3-litre V6 petrol here in Europe, but nooooo... We're Europeans, and afraid of big engines.
Totally agree👍🏻.. thats why i still stick with my good old Santa Fe MkII V6... waiting better days until some brave soul start sell again cars with normal engines

I think that kia is the best!!
Its not don't worry
Watch the video first and then comment.
PORSCHE 911 you think Kia is the best and you have a mini on your account
I said kia. but, three of them
Naaaaaa
The Volkswagen going to win Ofc carwow always do this but the Kia is the Better
Made one last as twice as both of them combine
I wish that we got Skoda in the states. I'd purchase a Kodiaq with a 3.6 VR6 in seconds
that is the issue with states. Škoda doesn't have stupidly big engies - anything over a 2.0 is an overkill, because modern 2.0 twin turbo engines have plenty of power. Why would they bother with a 3.6 VR6? Big, heavy, and the fuel efficiency doubles the cost of the car
@@gkgameplaycz The thing is that in the States the fuel efficiency does NOT double the cost of the car, and gas is cheap
Average family 4 people. People need a 7 seater. Yeah, that was a weird run.
These days it is three now lol
Average of course implies that 50% of people have more than 2 children :-) Anyway, as someone who has got a larger family these cars aren't that useful. You can't fit everyone in and actually take some luggage for a two week holiday. The only affordable car I've found which can do that is the VW Caddy. It's more van like but much more practical if you need to take six or seven people on a regular basis and even more so as the kids become teenagers.
The other thing which worries me with these small seven seaters is how rearmost passengers fair in a rear end accident. Not well according to a Fifth gear episode I saw.....
Is it a real problem for you? Really?! You are lucky... My King, please, tell me if I can buy a big car or not... 😂😂😂
I mean families can get away with a 5 seater. But you're a family with 2 kids. And 5 seats is fine until one of them wants to bring friends over
Average family may have only 2 kids, but remember people have cousins and grandparents and friends so it's nice to have 7 seats in those cases
Out of the trio, I would pick the Skôda Kodiaq because its good value for money, has an interesting design with split-eyed headlights, a premium feeling interior, best practicality with clever features and have a comfortable floating driving experience.
How? Kia is cheaper
Not anymore
Definitely not any more. We’ve just ordered a new Kodiaq for my wife and it was £10k less than the Sorento. New Sorento is almost £55k! Prices have skyrocketed in the last couple of years..
So the VW didn’t win but the VW won. 😂
Ñ
Spoiler warning lol
The tiguan is good but tiguan all space is just waste...
Plus it looks boaring among all three..kia should have won..
Utkarsh Kshirsagar if you want 7 seater get Wv Touareg 7 seater version, not that small tiguan. It is not even in class of Kodiaq or Sorento, Touareg is
@@RRCProductions_official there is no 7 seat version of the Toureg
Well look at tiguan in R-line. Its really nice looking one, but the price is higher...
"Which one has the biggest boot?"
I think... the subtitles misheard that...
All the positivity went for the Kia but the result was Kodiak. Makes no sense.
Listen better. Kodiak?
Because Mat is always biased towards European cars
Speaking of the Kodiaq, why isn’t the 2.0 TDI 150PS 4x4 7 seater *manual* version of the Kodiaq certified for towing like its DSG equivalent? How come Škoda decided NOT to approve that version of the Kodiaq for towing? 🤔
I go with KIA too, it's best looking (inside and outside), better seats and a lot of room, the only thing I didn't like its mileage.
I can't wait, I'm getting a karoq SE L with the optional pan roof and anthracite wheels
İ think Skoda Kodiaq. Kodiaq usefull and handsome.😉
bence de
Handsome? I question your taste in car aesthetics 😂
Kodiaq the best suv by far!
Could you do a test between the Tiguan Allspace, Kodiaq and Tarraco?
Kodiaq scout, Tiguan allspace
You know you love Carwow when you became very happy when you upload a new video
yep 😊
Happily watching this review about 7 seater suv being single and 10 years away from having children
Can’t argue with any of that, Tiggy is better as a five seater, if I needed 7 seats regularly I’d go for the Kodiak on on looks, economy, infotainment system and choices of drivetrains
Volkswagen Multivan is for 7.
Otherwise Kia all the way.
The Kia is better in pretty much every measurable attribute. So the Skoda wins.... logic
Wtf how is that logic
I would take the Skoda anytime! My cousin has a Kodiaq in its top spec and I love it!
Vw vs Vw vs not a Vw
@Lako I'd have the kia any day over the other 2
He should have waited for the SEAT Tarraco to make things far more interesting, since the doors and the centre console come straight from the Tiguan All-space. It will also have a starting price between the Skoda and the VW and is built by VW in Wolfsburg.
Škoda is not VW even if it is own by Asswagen
Realy kk
@@pershooo yes it is it mixes Volkswagen parts
Could you include in the upcoming videos also testing of you the cars sound systems? That would be nice, with some pop or hip-hop music!
whenever there is comparison on this channel, the winner is always a VW group car no matter what. I don't think it is coincidence. Apparently they are paid for that.
Naa, Skodas are just top notch for the price
@@mikkelkirketerp4884 I am talking about something else
I think the Sorrento deserve to win
Deserves why? Only the back seat is more comfortable. Or do you see other advantages compared tho the other two?
Kia won less important categories. Having a more expensive, heavier car
that guzzles fuel for the one time a month you actually need to carry 7
people (which the cheapest Kodiak can do anyway) isn't what I would call
a good compromise. Price, fuel consumption, driving dynamics,
infotainment go a long way.
I'Ts Ugly
I’m really starting to lose interest in VW cars and cars from their group. They used to be reliable and good value, now they’re neither. They’re all dull, boring and seems that they’ve stopped giving a shit.Car reviewers should really stop putting german brands on a pedestal, especially VW. I like Seats though, they’re nice to drive.
PS The Kia should’ve won this
Thank you for this informative contribution.
kroezem1 sarcasm or genuine ?
Sarcasm ofcourse. I always wonder why people comment on a subject and say they are not interested and then reply ein terms they give the impression they actually are. But don't be offended. I am a bit of a nutter with this.
Look at this dull and boring VW Group product
ruclips.net/video/FZT0B98RRxU/видео.html
Chrizz brilliant argument, a supercar concept that 90% of people will never own or drive, yes brilliant, you are brilliant.
When people say VW are boring, nobody means their supercars, nobody means the Bugatti Chiron or any of the Lamborghinis, or the R8 etc.. Those cars are in a league of their own, those have about as much to do with a regular VW as a tiger does to a koala
At what year did the Tiguan have sweeping indicators? Or isit specific to a trim
It seemed like the Kia would win, being so much better in most categories. But then it turns out that it comes last. Pretty whimsical.
Mat is biased towards European cars
I think the deciding factors were the fuel economy and how fun they are to drive. Altho as the whole point of these cars is that they are spacious 7 seaters for families, i think the more comfortable and practical kia sorento should have been the winner.
Why is the Tiguan Poverty Spec? I have a highline with 9.2" screen (Discovere Pro) 12.3" Dashboard Screen, LED Headlights and Leather seats. Its 10X better than the other 2.
Seemed like the Kia should've won to me
Better get some glasses
Sure the KIA is more expensive, uses more fuel, has a smaller booth and drivers not as good as the other once. Hmmm..why should it win?
@@knowntobehonest sure 1.4 petrol fwd (entry level) with way less equipment against 2.2 diesel awd with lots of equipment? really dude?!!!
Mat is biased towards European cars
@@mosesa2305 nah hes just like that against korean cars imo
It isn’t really a fair comparison since VW tiguan allspace was base model(trendline) with bad sits and no digital counter, very bad looking outside... Skoda had LED lights and more options and Sorento had more options aswell(leather seats). Next time show us prices of current models so we can see the difference
No doubt i will for sure take the kia Sorento
One question : If those cars are for families with haft football (soccer) team, did the third row seats has ISOFIX to put child there and free up space for adult in second raw. Because the last is too uncomfortable for big adult for a long trip and suitable for small children and installing child seats ?
The Skoda is better overall, the Tiguan is more luxury. I would rather have a Tiguan.
Hey you guys have got the steering wheel on the wrong side, or might it be the camera perspective?
I love your reviews Matt. But it's a bit misleading when you talk about fuel economy. To be fair, you really should try to get vehicles that are similarly speced out. For example, the Kia here is BY FAR the most powerful vehicle here. Not even close, really. So, of course it has the worst fuel economy. You should mention things like that in your reviews.
Kia is least economicals
@@dragospahontu Of course. It's by far the most powerful vehicle here.
@@johnholst for sure.
Adam. Drive them and you know why.
Where are the Peugeot 5008 or Nissan X-Trail for example?
Where? Dunno. Not in this comparison for sure. But Oriol. You can't take every car in this test.
Despite it having Kia's aging CRDi engine the Sorento is the better all-rounder here.
Kia is the one! It looks the smartest on the exterior, well built, has the most space and doesn't have any of them STUPID FAKE EXHAUST TAILPIPES, just as Matt has shown us with the Official Car Wow Stick of Truth :)
When are you going to review the new Kia Sportage please?
Kodiak All day long! Just ordered one!
Mat is the best presenter. Great video carwow
I have a 2015 Kia Sorento and I love it. Yes, it's not the greatest on fuel but it suits the six of us perfectly. I would definitely buy another one in a few years.

@@bazxf95 Hi I'm interested in the Kia too. How many miles would you say you can do on a full tank with a combined driving of local and highway? I'm comparing the Kia Sorento to Nissan X-Trail to decide which to go for.
@hakimn.6365 Hi, I can usually get around 700-800km on a tank of diesel. I do a lot of mixed type of driving. Mostly short run, but some regular long runs too. All on good roads too.
KODIAQ!!!!

A rather unexpected winner after all. The Sorrento won in all but one category and it should've won the test.
That won less important categories and even a superb is as big as some SUVs
Hi Matt, not sure what caused it, but I have been using my Sorento 2.2 diesel for 2 months I do get 6.5-7.0L per 100km, which is around 40-42 MPG (UK). You got a poor MPG which is very strange to me.
Kia has done a good job with the Sorento and the Tiguan is the nicest looking of the three, but still I'd buy the Kodiaq.

Can you please do a review of the BMW 2 series gran tourer 7 seater
Peugeot 5008
Yes definitely waiting for that
Fuck Peugeot
5008 was already the better car, so the others can't even compare to the 5008.
Its a 7 seater car? No
fernando quiñones 5008? Yes, it is. And it is better for people sitting in the 3rd seats.
Mat, Tesla Model 3 has been in Europe for some weeks now, it also arrived in UK stores. When are you going to review it?
I'm asking as you already reviewed cars that are not even in production yet...
I prefer Most Skoda Karoq (2019)
Oyy I love the looks of the new extended Tiguan...but the Sorento has all the best virtue of space and Korean reliability...but if I were just leasing one a couple ears, I would choose the VW, and KIA for a long term investment.
Kia in Sweden has 7 year warranty from factory easy choice
Skoda has 5 year warranty and the Kia is going to break to hard for any warranty because its not german
You need the 7 years?
kroezem1 IF i would buy one of these i would take the longest warranty yes. Personally i lease cars 3 years then bye bye
I want to buy this sweater. What brand is this?
I love Kia
Does the Uk sell the Toyota kluger
(Highlander for the USA)
No
Kia all the way... amazing car. And you get 7 years warranty.
Why is small Tiguan being compared to the 7 seaters?
I had a test drive in all of them. And have to say Kia was the nicest. Yet I have end up getting second hand X5. Good review
