Hello. I've just popped in to say that I've had my Mazda cx60 for nearly two weeks. I opted for the Homura, all the packages PHEV in the deep blue. I LOVE it. I do plug it in every night to domestic AC 3-pin (external, Plug in vehicle compliant) and have achieved 200 mpg and 39 miles on a full battery. My last car was a Volvo XC60 R design diesel - so similar in size. Things I've noticed: the 20 inch tyres are more forgiving than I had expected given the various reviews of the car. Mine has had all the recall items fitted/adjusted and I find the ride firm without the 'fidget' described. Road noise is more than acceptable compared to my Volvo and it corners as if on rails - again, compared to my AWD Volvo on 19" wheels - which inspires confidence and minimises body roll. I'm still 'learning' the car and am enjoying it immensely. I looked at other PHEVs as Matt suggested: The French equivalent was more expensive and its style will date easily. The Germans - well, £15k more for similar size but much lower spec. The Honda CRV was similar as was the Toyota RAV - but I just didn't like their 'loud' interiors. The Mazda oozes quality and has quiet interior styling. Perfect
And also how is the "weight" feeling compared to Volvo? I really like how heavy Volvo XC60 feels (and is) and it just goes over bumps like a tank without you feeling much. Do you have the same feeling of heavy, solid and stable car in the CX60? Because CX5 definitely doesn't feel that way.
@@purwantiallan5089 how so? it's cheaper than the Germans and the Lexus and almost as good. The price for it is very good I'd say. Mazda is more and more becoming a competitor to those brands.
@@rikaus9273you need to consider that GLB is absolute sh*t of a car. Very unreliable, terrible interior quality etc. Size wise this is GLC and X3 territory, not GLB.

I love my new PHEV CX-60, I get a lot of comments from friends and family as to why I "downgraded" from an X5 to a Mazda, but hey no complaints here. Might not have that luxury badge but I know it's gonna run when I need it to.
Thinking to change also from BMW. It is my second "software" / "motor unit" repair in 12 months and BMW is paying just a few percent of all costs. Not anymore;D
Haven't had any issues so far. It's what you would expect from the Japanese. It's far from being the most luxurious out there (even my old X5 beats the ride quality on this one) but the driving feel of it for me is just amazing especially on a twisty country road.@@pawkaster It's got decent power when you need to punch it, tech on this car is good as well. For me it's just the ride quality can be improved.
Matt had a pre-change model to test. Mazda is soundproofing the doors differently and there is no longer a strange sound when closing. The same applies to suspension work. As for acceleration: strange, but the CX60 has the best acceleration time in off-road mode.
It has the fastest acceleration in off-road because it locks the differential. You shouldn't launch it in off-road mode though, as at will cause a lot of wear on the diff
@@benbeasley6996 There were many complaints from customers and journalists. The cars released now are after changes and I know that Mazda calls customers with earlier cars and they are corrected in the service center.
Worked for Avis 2 years, got to see very nicely specced PHEV versions of the CX60. Great car (awesome cold start up sound I'm still impressed), got cool GLE-GLS vibes cuz it's quite big and imposing, pulls for the weight, nice interior. I loved it!
@ralphsmyth9635 what made a world of a difference was the adaptive cruise and lane assistance. The thing practically drove itself back home when I collected it from Manchester (home being glasgow).
I got mine last year. There are some minor issues which you have mentioned. Some, like the metallic sound of the doors, have been fixed. I‘m very satisfied with it ❤
The tinny doors have been rectified on the 2023 models, and 2022 models can get the added door suppression free of charge, they sound like they should after the work....all in all the car and for the money will outdo most German equivalent, and not forgetting..it is a Mazda, and will never let you down, unlike some German offerings....great review....
"never let you down" Only mine did. It had this horrible thrumming sound between 25 and 45 MPH - sounded like a window left open a bit and the resonance that you get. But it seemed to be from the transmission. They tried to fix it (prop shaft replacement) but failed, then no-one seemed to know what to do. Not just my car - they had some others with the same issue and people on forums were reporting the issue - some dating back to December 2022 and still no fix. Only on the PHEV. I ended up returning it. Shame as it was a really nice car but I lost confidence in the technology and the support processes.
@@jdmguy44 Soo.. why do you think I bought the CX-60 PHEV? I had expectations of using it as a retirement vehicle. Sadly that did not work out. When something (that the dealership and Mazda network) could not resolve after a couple of attempts in my car - and others - I lost confidence in tis vehicle being a long term proposition. The issue appeared to be that 'something' in the drive train (apparently) seemed to be 'wrong', assembly issue, misaligned parts, out of balance shafts, no-one seems to know... then you have to wonder if the vibrations underlying the 'thrumming' will leave the owner with a series of transmission related issues down the line. after warranty has expired etc. It's a new and very cool drive train (one of the reasons I bought it - I liked the concept) but it does have an ICE with clutch in line with the EV motor and another clutch and the 8 speed gearbox. Great idea (you always have 4 wheel drive irrespective of EV / ICE / Hybrid drive) but it seems that if it has not been assembled well or there is a duff part then you have issues.
Mat, I tried to spec' up a Q5 like my full bells-and-whistles Takumi PHEV, but blew past the 90KEUR mark with plenty of boxes left to check- price/kit/performance-wise I couldn't be happier or found better ( no regrets, but I do miss my little red Sandero III, fully specced and bi-fuel, but I got an excellent trade-in!).
Just watched the review and I’m completely blown away by the sophistication and elegance Mazda has instilled in the new CX-60 🤩! From the refined cabin to the sleek exterior, it seems to tick all the boxes. It's refreshing to see Mazda stepping up their game and giving the luxury brands a run for their money. What do you all think, can it truly rival the Germans, especially with its compelling price point? Also, who else is intrigued by the 6 cylinders? 🔥
As a car enthusiast, I find fake exhaust tips horrendous (just like Matt does). I wouldn't ever buy a car with such fakery, regardless of how good it is otherwise. I think manufacturers should at least offer trim level(s) without the fakery (see Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce), especially for 6 cylinders!
Mat, the PHEV CX-60 doesn't have turbocharger or supercharger. It uses Mazda 2.5L naturally aspirated I-4. I don't know if they use an ISG on the PHEV, but that whine definitely sounds like some sort of belt whine.
You can’t compare Q5 and X3 with that Mazda. The Mazda is more luxury and bigger. I would say CX60 is something in the middle between X3 and X5 and GLC - GLE. But for sure is much better than X3 and Q5
What took you so long? I bought one 7 weeks ago and now you finally review it! Love the car and if you put it in Off Road mode it will do 0-60 in 5.2 seconds! Homura with black accents and alloys looks better. Stunning car for the money.
I feel like Mazda listens to its customers and car reviewers. Instead of integrating climate control, they keep it separate, the design is just right, the materials look gorgeous. Mazda has perfected the mix of form and function. Clearly, they listen to buyers.
I have been always a huge fan of Mazda and their design wise especially, so glad and thankful that they still produce cars such as this and some others, thank you Mat for your honest review.

Been running one of these CX- 60 PHEVS for the last 3 months and have nicknamed it "The Bungalow" as it is a big SUV. Bad points, very firm suspension, never really feels planted, particularly on motorways, so not overly relaxing to drive and the combined fuel economy (I charge it regularly) has never bettered 39mpg and it has safety features that annoy, two in particular, for no real reason it will sound a warning and flash on the screen "Distracted Driver Detected" which means if you weren't you certainly are now and when driving on a road that has parked cars on both sides and you reach a slight bend it sounds an even louder warning and a big "Brake" appears on your screen as it believes a collision is imminent, this has the ability to scare the bejesus out of you and any passengers on board. Good points, lots of space, great standard spec (although I agree that ACC should be part of that) great driving position and with a fully charged battery, Sports mode will see you surprise more than a few drivers on how it can move, particularly the mid range acceleration which is somewhat brisk to say the least. Overall a good value for money SUV which can be seen as a credible alternative to the likes of BMW and Audi.
@@pawkaster Nothing on the 12v battery warning but plenty elsewhere. For clarity I am running this as a company car so the issues have had minimal impact on me personally but could on a private buyer. The initial CX60 went back to a Mazda dealership as the steering was faulty, which I believe is a known fault with a particular batch of cars, which involves a complete replacement steering rack that has to come from Japan and can be anything up to 3 months to arrive (after my first had been in the garage for 5 weeks I rung and they simply could not tell me when it was likely to arrive and the repair completed) Spoke with the lease company and they sent me a replacement, which promptly broke down on the way to my house with a complete electrical failure and the dashboard doing a good impression on the Blackpool illuminations. Back to the lease company, another one was to be sent, this one had an issue with the bonnet not being able to close properly, back again to the lease company and I am now on my 4th CX60 which, in the 6 days and 450 miles driven is seemingly holding together although for how long who knows?? One thing I will say is that, through all of this, Mazda have been really "on point" with their customer service and this is the main reason I have stayed with the brand and model despite being offered a variety of different cars via the leasing company.
Fun little quirk: you can "rev" the electric engine. The electric motor is actually spinning the drive shaft, instead of the wheels. So you can keep it in park and rev it up and you'll get that turbo like charger noise
Got the diesel for 2 weeks, overall a great family car, we enjoyed it. Had some strange errors with low battery warnings which seems to be common for newer Mazdas and one time the gear box didn’t shift when we drove onto the motorway which was quite scary. Had to restart the car and everything was fine afterwards. Looks like there might be some issues with the electronics at least with our model. Overall, very bulky but nice car, would love to drive it again.
You're not the only one who has these problems. All CX-60's have a lot of issues. Sticky steering, wireless charger errors, weird rear suspension, empty battery errors, strange 5th to 6th gear noise, strange behavior of security systems, etc. etc. I know, because I own one...
@@Rammit_Inha_Assol I own one too now. I am a bit scarry of all the issues it has. Did you resolve your issue 12v battery warning? It is showing on mine from tiem to time. Is battery indeed is draining and/or depleted, or this is some glitch in the system?
Mazda hands down has the best interior quality for its OLD competitors. However, targeting higher-end market, it needs to do a little bit more on the materials and feels such as the door-closing sound and driving feels for a comfy, luxurious vehicle.
Proud to say I own one and it’s such a beauty to drive, so relaxing, only gripe I have is rear end over speed humps, feels like a bucking bronco lol. On the other hand the sport mode brings out the dragon in the car!!
The rear suspension now has an upgrade available, 2022 cars have rear shocks with a D at the end of the part number, 2023 up to Q4 have an E at the end (which I had). 2023 Q4 onwards had shocks with an F at the end which I now have, much much better. Speak to your dealer to get the new parts installed
Couple points, the 3 pin plugs are optional, and as much as the spec down is technically a spec down, its not really. The equipment level is the same. Just because it's a little cheaper its identically equipped. I imagine the price differences are the interior materials and the diamond cut wheels. It's also not turbocharged like you said at the end of the video. The engine is NA, like 90% of the other engines in Mazdas. The only turbo engines are the diesels
Why is Mat downplaying this car so much? 😂 Overly critical on things he's usually less critical about, and less enthusiastic about things he'd usually be happy about. Kind of annoying
Like what exactly? Basically all the things he complained about I have seen in countless other videos. And very often I agree with him considering a car is expensive no matter the price so one should be more nitpicky because you invest your (most likely) hard earned money in it :) especially when you go up the price range
@@0905CJL just watched the 2023 GLC review again and this one back to back and you are right it is fairly small but I do have to say what i immediately noticed with the Mazda that is looks even smaller and more claustrophobic. I’m not saying there is a world of difference but I am saying there is one. If I had to choose between the Mazda and the Mercedes PURELY based on the space of the back seats I would choose the Mercedes I do have to say that the most criticisms I agree with of the cars that he reviews are cars like Audi, Mercedes and BMW especially with how greedy they are with withholding basic features that even cheaper cars have as standard. I loathe that behaviour although I understand they do it to get more money obviously

Feels like Matt is being a bit biased agaisnt Mazda here. I have an Audi A4, latest gen(b9) pre face lift. My neighbour has just bought the CX60, and it is goergeous on the inside!!! I prefer it over my A4. Don't get me wrong, the A4 has a nice interior, but it doesn't wow you like the CX60, maybe cos mines is all black. And for some reason the CX60 felt huge too, the dimensinos aren't honestly that much bigger, a few cm's here and there, but just feels and looks chunky. And mind you, I chose an A4 over a Q5 since the A4 felt a bit nicer.
Lots to like about the CX-60. Fully optioned, the price is a lot closer to an X-Trail, CR-V or RAV-4, not a Q5, NX or X3. But I don't understand Mazda making the top-spec Takumi model only available with the white interior. For an SUV, surely a dark interior option is a must, but only available that way on lower end models.
Wouldn’t really say that. Got the homura version since a few months now, got all the same tech in the Takumi (took packages available). So spec wise no diff except for the visual effects. I like the black accents on the outside a lot more. The white Takumi interior looked cool, but when you’ve got kids it’s a no go. Price wise there was an 800€ diff between Takumi and Homura, it’s something, but not such a great saving either.
Holy crap you're right!! that's not good for Carwow integrity! I review wrist watches on my channel and had a brand threaten to sue me if I didn't remove a review of one of their watches as they were not satisfied with what I had to say. I simply pointed them to our first email Exchange where I said I have only one condition: I get to say whatever I want to say: The Good The Bad and everything in between, to which they agreed! After that they stopped threatening me and I never removed the video as I felt it would have made me a sell-out
The whining noise when you launched it isn't the e-motor. My 2017 Mazda 6 with the 2.2 turbo diesel also makes a similar sound when I floor it. I guess it's just the noise their engines make
Matt, the car has NO turbocharger as you stated at 16:17. Its a naturally aspirated 4 cyl, which can be found in the Mazda CX5 aswell. Also there is no "regular hybrid", there is only the plugin hybrid and the mild hybrids (diesels).
Corrections from what Matt Watson said.... Just for your information: Touch screen is available in Apple car play mode when you are stationary to make it easier to navigate through. The Adaptive cruise control is a part of a pack - Yes it is £1100 however you do also get - Cruising an traffic alerts, front cross traffic alert, smart brake support (front and back) Adaptive LED's and then the i-adaptive cruise and radar cruise control. Brakes don't always squeak. This is the first one I have known to do it. It will do 40 miles to a range - this is why you get the 8% BIK. Thanks! :)
Amazing car but sadly Mazda have the thinest paint in the industry. I own Mazda 3 2021 and it is not forgiving to any tiny stones which you will catch while driving, same with front windshield. At the moment after driving 50 thousand kilometres it looks worse when my BMW which have around 175 thousand kilometres. IF YOU BUY MAZDA, INVEST IN CERAMIC PAINT PROTECTION!
OK Matt once and for all, here is the deal with the "fake" tailpipes. How would you like your tailpipes to be black with exhaust soot? Directing the exhaust pipes downwards keeps the fakes one clean and neat.
It's like an interim proposition from main stream to luxury. Given the price point, why spend the extra cash for just a little bit more. Also the interior looks absolutely well built and well thought off as to be in the luxury segment.
I've been driving a CX-60 for almost half a year now. It's quite a nice car from an interior perspective but has so many flaws in details. Comfort is only mid due to suspension and connectivity and infotainment/display views aren't really thought through and are actually subpar. You can only connect one smartphone, which is still buggy to get into Carplay mode either cable or over the air. That directly disqualifies it as a business car. Onboard navigation and voice recognition are outright trash. The mirrors take forever to heat up, a hassle in rainy or ice weather conditions. The interior is more susceptible to getting dirty than any other car I drove before. Great car for short trips with family if the roads are sufficiently wide and the price is fair for the comfort package. Otherwise, I wouldn't buy it again and wouldn't recommend it to people driving a lot. Drove a Mazda 6 before I was quite happy with it, but this one is rather disappointing.
@@edgimson5706 you're right it's not really that big, X5, gle etc are bigger. It's huge when compared to my little Peugeot but in the grand scheme of things it's not a behemoth 😅
It’s slight bigger compared to CX5 … the cX 90 is the larger one… ( like cX 9) the same 2.5 used in cX 5, cx8, cX 9 … performance is good and fuel economy depends on driving style
I have the exact same watch. The Promaster Ecodrive is a very good and solid piece of art. ;) I own it for 12 years now and it still works like on the first day. Not a single scratch on the glass. Recommend it. Greetings from Germany.
Test drove one of these and was very impressed. In the end I stuck with BMW simply because of the seats. Ergonomically the seats aren't as deep as in European cars and I like support to my entire thigh to the back of the knee. The Mazda's were too short and left my legs with an unsupported dangling feeling. Other than that I loved the Mazda but my driving comfort was paramount. However, I'm sure it will suit many people.
Better than the Germans? Mazda is a relatively small company that produces its cars only in Japan. Anyone who knows anything about cars knows very well that Mazda makes incomparably more reliable cars compared to BMW, Audi, MB.

Looks are amazing but technically this car is premature and not premium quality at all. Mazda has failed a lot bringing this car to market since there are a lot of issues with both software and hardware. I know... Google knows... check yourself.
I have one of these, except for the suspension dumping, which can be improved with an specific KONI dumpers and eibach springs the rest of the car works pretty well. In fact, if you put in off road mode the car will 0-60mph in 5,2sec!!!!

I test-drove the diesel version of this car yesterday. The power, interior design, and exterior appearance are impressive. It felt great driving on flat roads. However, the road noise was quite loud when driving over coarse chip at speed. It's not a quiet highway cruiser; instead, it's loud and boomy. The suspension feels cheap and doesn't effectively absorb bumps or road imperfections. Additionally, there was a small rattle in the dashboard. Overall, I would not recommend this car yet, but I'd like to one day, after Mazda do the engineering properly, and address the asking price.
Great review, Matt, lovely car. Mazda do make some really nice vehicles but 5 on the back seat might be a bit of a squeeze, even 2, either side of the rear arm rest...
Apart from the 6-Cylinder diesels, there is a Gasoline 3.3L Turbo charged inline-6 which has 340HP, and it also has the 48v E-Skyactiv tecnology, this is more for normal markets and they don't sell the diesel that much or the 2.5L Plug-in-Hybrid version.

Audi Volkswagen in fact the vast majority of German vehicles actually use the cheapest nastiest electrical componentry they can get their hands on... I am an estate guy myself and although the CX-60 looks stupendous, I find myself looking to estates over SUVs more often than not. Loads of equipment that in Germans are extra, in Volvo is standard (yes BMW, I am looking at your £5000 pack for adaptive cruise control). Volvo is killing the estates in the UK tho, also doubt mazda will do a new 6 , Lexus doesn't do estates unfortunately, Toyotas you can get them fairly well equipped but lacks the luxury bit. Skoda is also a decent option for estates with L&K trim for a bit more luxury and posh finish. The estate market is getting leaner. Which is a shame, I absolutely love them.

Perfect
If you don't mind me asking, how are the seats compared to
Volvo?
And also how is the "weight" feeling compared to Volvo? I really like how heavy Volvo XC60 feels (and is) and it just goes over bumps like a tank without you feeling much. Do you have the same feeling of heavy, solid and stable car in the CX60? Because CX5 definitely doesn't feel that way.
Good to see Mazda letting you review their cars again after comparing the Mazda3 to a dog doing its business.

As for acceleration: strange, but the CX60 has the best acceleration time in off-road mode.

I've had various Mazda's including a couple of Mazda 6 models. Great cars. Brilliantly reliable.

As a car enthusiast, I find fake exhaust tips horrendous (just like Matt does). I wouldn't ever buy a car with such fakery, regardless of how good it is otherwise.
Hey. Did you experience any issues with your car? Especially 12v battery warning?
@@pawkaster Nothing on the 12v battery warning but plenty elsewhere. For clarity I am running this as a company car so the issues have had minimal impact on me personally but could on a private buyer. The initial CX60 went back to a Mazda dealership as the steering was faulty, which I believe is a known fault with a particular batch of cars, which involves a complete replacement steering rack that has to come from Japan and can be anything up to 3 months to arrive (after my first had been in the garage for 5 weeks I rung and they simply could not tell me when it was likely to arrive and the repair completed)
Spoke with the lease company and they sent me a replacement, which promptly broke down on the way to my house with a complete electrical failure and the dashboard doing a good impression on the Blackpool illuminations.
Sticky steering, wireless charger errors, weird rear suspension, empty battery errors, strange 5th to 6th gear noise, strange behavior of security systems, etc. etc.

And mind you, I chose an A4 over a Q5 since the A4 felt a bit nicer.
CX-60 is dream Suv for me, and the firm suspension and noise for me is what makes a car a car

Better than the Germans? Mazda is a relatively small company that produces its cars only in Japan. Anyone who knows anything about cars knows very well that Mazda makes incomparably more reliable cars compared to BMW, Audi, MB.
They also produced in Mexico 🇲🇽
(Edit 2024/05/06: since I had 8 software updates and a recall for the steering, I'm finally happy with my CX-60.)
I own a CX-60.
Eibach springs?? I've got the Koni dampers on order for my PHEV, but this is the first I've heard about the springs... Do you have a reference/forum/source link? Cheers from Luxembourg!
@@BigDaddy3445 thanks for the info I will reach them
I test-drove the diesel version of this car yesterday.
The 3 dead mice segment cracked me up! Just bought a CX-30, can't wait to drive it!
Really like that, sounds good as well. I like that motor whistle 😂
This is an amazing recipe. Great looks, supposedly super solid drivetrain and a great cabin. A shame that things like the door sound, the comfort or that steering heater just seem a bit half assed..
Headlights look bad
The sound of that engine, honestly sounds absolutely sick!
I didn't think you'd get your hands on one of these so thank you to your team for sorting that. I'm probably gonna buy a Q5
Q5 is basically quite expensive tho.
And unreliable
You’re paying for quality with the Q5, I had an SQ5 for 3 years with zero faults. Not sure why you’d think they’re unreliable
@@oliver_1997 based on experience of owning multiple Audi vehicles and had serviced and repaired them myself... Your experience is three years probably under warranty.
You are paying for the impression of quality but the engineering is bloody atrocious. As an electrical engineer, who specialised in the aviation industry for over a decade and a half I know what quality is.
Audi Volkswagen in fact the vast majority of German vehicles actually use the cheapest nastiest electrical componentry they can get their hands on... Then there is the rubber gaskets and plastics again cheap cheap cheap.
The concept of German engineering is a fallacy.
They are designed as a throw away item to be replaced at end of warranty.
Even if your experiences have been fine.. Again probably within warranty.. Statistically the majority of their vehicles are poor quality and will fail or have issues.
The sq5 Diesel engine is notorious for problems.. You may be just lucky but three years isn't a longevity test.
Take a look at reliability ratings that multiple nations run and you see that they rank fairly low, in fact Mercedes is the worst out of the three of them.
So that's why I say it
@@phillippereira6468 Comparing the automotive industry to aviation is unrealistic, car's just aren't built to that standard. As I mentioned in my previous message. In my 5 years of driving Audi's and something like 15 years of Skoda's before that I've never had a single fault with any of my cars. If I did, they were all under warranty anyway so it wouldn't have been any drama. If you can afford the over all niceness of having something German rather than something that sounds like it'll break when you close the door or fidgets along our battered tarmac... Yeah I'm gonna go ahead and stick with Audi thanks
This is a gorgeous looking Mazda.....Mazda cars are really nailing it and getting better and better!!!
Bravo Mazda!!! 👏👏👏👏
The mice comment had me laughing cant lie, great review as always Matt! 🤣
Good to see Matt doing a good old review.
Wow! Looks really good. Maybe I'll trade in my MDX for it.
Your Acura will run longer.
I'm struggling to find a replacement for my current car. It's a large 2019 estate with almost every conceivable option and a reasonable 247bhp - it's been fantastic and has not missed a single beat.
I feel like the points picked up by Matt in this video would put me off, but I also don't want to spend a ridiculous amount on a fully loaded German equivalent for it to get scratched up in a car park. I'm fairly underwhelmed by what's on offer from almost every manufacturer!
I am an estate guy myself and although the CX-60 looks stupendous, I find myself looking to estates over SUVs more often than not.
I have tried to stay away from Germans as well and the last time I had to buy a car, I went with Volvo and got a V90.
