I Test Drove the Kia Sportage v Hyundai Tucson v Nissan Qashqai v Honda HR-V!

- It’s time for a four-way Japan vs Korea SUV showdown!
We’ve got our hands on the Hyundai Tucson, Honda HR-V, Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage, and Mat will compare them across a series of challenges to see which comes out on top!
If you’re in the market for one of these, the likelihood is that you'll be using it for transporting your family, so not only will he focus on the design and driving - he’ll also be taking a closer look at their interiors, room in the back seats, and the boot space as well!
They all start at a similar amount when it comes to price. The Qashqai is the cheapest here, starting at £26,405, while the Tucson is the most expensive, at £30,140.
So will the Tucson walk it? Or will another come out on top instead? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

Man British people are so open minded when it comes to cars. As an American, our people are mostly closed minded 14 year old boys who hates on SUVs just because they don’t have the same interest as them. As an American, I am ashamed that British people are more civilized then American car people. There i say it, United Kingdom > United States.
In my opinion, I don’t care about SUVs. I don’t complain about them, because people have choices or preferences, clearly lacking in American people unfortunately. In the US car People hype up sedans like they are as special as a Ferrari when in reality they are noting special compared to SUVs. A Toyota Camry is more comparable to a RAV4. So yeah congrats Brits for being more civilized and open minded then these stupid bloody rubbish Americans!
@@newchannel1220 bro carwow is British most people who watch this channel are Brits. If this was Doug DeMuro most of his viewers are American so you could say that
@@elijaholing yes! I agree because here in my country The United States of America unfortunately dealers are selling brand new cars above 10x over MSRP or sticker price. That’s called markup. Idk if UK have dealer markups but if they don’t you all are lucky! And also say no to flippers and cars with high resale value because I think those are roots for human being chasing $$$ aka greed

By far, it is the best practical comparison yet with 4 of the best-selling mid sized SUV's go head to head (excl. Rav4). Once again, another 30+ minute video in 2 days! You have really outdone yourselves here, again. Thank you.
WTF IS THE POINT IN A FWD SUV POINTLESS
@@manilove2pwn I’m never buying one but my guess is size. Most consumers want a larger car.
Funny how in the EU these are called mid size SUV's where in the States they are CUV's (Compact Utility Vehicles) also being from Europe myself but living in US for the past 14 years I'm surprised how different the looks on same models are. Apart from the Hyundai maybe but the HR-V looks like a completely different car.
I'd like to see more in depth of the fuel economy for it to be a more practical comparison
Should have been a CR-V...
As someone who just bought a 2023 Tucson Elite 1.6L T and loves it, my heart hurts a little watching parts of this video. 😂 Personally love the Tucson design-wise the most out of the models in this video and find some of the other SUVs design weird; but of course that's all subjective.
Many new vehicles are designed in more unique ways these days with such 'out there' shape choices, but it's interesting seeing where they're being taken and what's appealing to the general populace.
The Tucson looks are just not Matt's cup of tea are they....sooo many of them around now tho, seem quite popular. I have the 1.6 hybrid as a company car and it's great to drive.
We had the kia Sportage hybrid as a courtesy car for two months it was amazing. Very nice to drive and everything was of a high quality
plus it's got the longest warranty in its segment I believe
Ah finally! More of these comparisons please.. they were so brilliant and useful and then you just stopped

Thank you for a comprehensive review. It is really useful! Just a small suggestion: it’s easy for views to forget which car you are talking about as you switch from one car to another in a split second. It would be helpful to put text on a corner at all times to indicate which car you are in. This applies to all videos that you make to compare multiple vehicles. Thank you!
You're too hard on that Tucson, Matt! It's got some incredible value for the price if you look at the features. Plus, i.m.o it's a distinctive cool look.
He’s always on about Hyundai’s. No idea why he’s got a thing against all of them apart from the Ioniq 5.
We’ve got the N line Tucson and absolutely love it, he’s got a real bad opinion of it for some reason.. maybe because top gear loved it
I’ve got the new Tucson and it’s fabulous. Tech galore and drives really well. Love it.
Tucson looks the best, interior is luxurious too
@@funkyfin3023 Ioniq 5 and Stargazer are some of them.
Yes, the HONDA HR-V is brilliant! After 15,000 km I am very happy with ist. Well engineered, frugal, practical, innovative (magic seats!), comfortable, generous room for passengers and with a premium touch regarding the interior design (Advance Style). The CR-V Diesel I owned before has converted me to a HONDA fan after 18 cars of different other brands including Mercedes and BMW, having never been loyal to a brand before.
The HR-V Hybrid does not have a CVT though. It does not have any transmission at all, it has one fixed gear and a dog clutch for engaging the combustion engine to the wheels. The transmission is simulated by modulation of electric current, that´s why the marketing guys have called it "e-CVT". The gears are also simulated by controlling the rpm of the ICE. Please don´t give false information to your viewers. There are people who hate CVT´s and will never test drive an HONDA Hybrid because of you.
The HRV doesn’t have a gearbox. The engine either functions purely as a generator for the electric motor or at higher speeds it’s directly connected to the wheels with a fixed gear ratio.
Mat you have been smashing it with the content lately!
I love the 2022 Tucson in white. Limited trim is where the magic happens for seat material and the gauge cluster and dashboard
Great Indepth review Matt! Having just go the Nissan e-power, i am very happy that I made the right choice for my requirements based on your feedback. I had all these four cars in my mind and ended up with Nissan and loving it!!
What made you choose E-Power over other hybrids?
The way Mat was hooning the HR-V down that country road between 30:17 - 30:30 seemed like so much fun. 😂
Apart from the noise from the engine/generator because of the poorly setup CVT gearbox, I won’t even consider the Honda because of it.
@@WEZ4136 it hasn’t got a CVT gearbox, the gearing is single speed direct. They call it CVT to save complication.
@@WEZ4136 Yeah I'd imagine that's jarring af to listen to non stop.

Hilarious in the Nissan when it talks to you. My 23 Altima here in the US does that as well. Also announces weather alerts that are 50 miles away lol
I noticed the Tucson in this video is the SE (entry model), not the N-Line nor Premium which would compare better feature, trim and interior comfort-wise with the others here.
Got it wrong big time on the Hyundai. Loads of them about since launch and that's due to the styling ( especially the front lights ). Previous model was bland but Hyundai have given consumers something different in all fairness and they have responded positively
you can't get insurance on hyundai.

first time I'm early for a carwow video; hi from Jamaica Mat!
Tucson Ultimate HEV gives 50+ mpg and is very comfortable and doesn't have any rattles. Only complaint is skinnier tyres due to size of electric motor and battery but the ride is decent.

Even before the design review was completed I knew Hyundai would come last. I find Hyundai design really good though!
Strange considering its the best to drive and the best to be in out of the lot.
Everyone does, literally, except for carwow, Matt also bashed the car when reviewing it for no reason when it’s clearly a good car, they have some kinda of agenda against Hyndai which is so obvious and stupid
It really is a very nice design. Mat's been hating on it forever
While i could understand not putting it in a 1st place, the tucson is objectively not the worst looking of all these.

Had my Hyundai Tucson for 6 weeks so far- really nice car and very comfortable. I quite like the looks and have had people asking me about it. My only criticism really is that the headlights and rear indicators are too low down and so need cleaning more in the winter. The LCD drivers display is great too.
And not economical at all.
@@miskatonic6210 I have the plain petrol turbo and am getting 45 mpg without any electrical, so mine is probably the exception. My old diesel Tucson was 52.
My State Farm policy on my Hyundai jumped from $60 monthly to $85 monthly.
I love my little 2013 Honda. Never had an issue with it. I made sure to research what would be the most reliable car and can take the most miles. My mom got herself a brand new Hyundai and it’s been in the shop three times in the last year.
@@miskatonic6210 wdym not economical at all? Been driving mine brand new from 2022 for 10k kilometers so far, and average consumption was 45 to 50mpg (Mild hybrid 48v Petrol 1.6 150hp). In my book that's more than fair consumption. I was driving mostly in eco mode, so no sporty driving when not necessary really, and couldn't be more happier. On sport mode it does get a bit thirstier, since the response is quicker, it brings up the revs etc, but if you're using it as family car as most of the buyers should, then it's pretty economical SUV for the size and what it offers.
Mat, need your review of the Mazda cx60 please

Strange how everyone finds the Tucson a great looking car except for Matt 🤦♂️
I saw them all in real life, if i didn’t know the badges I would assume the Tucson is 10k more expensive just based on the exterior, it’s waaay better than the others.
The sportage looks like a small hatchback from behind
Hi matt can you do a comparison of cheap 7 seaters the best 4 and you could do 4 expensive as well you would make it fun keep up the good work
I spent half the video trying to figure out what the Honda reminded me off, it suddenly dawned on me, it's an Austin Maxi with a lift kit.
I’d have thought the Honda CR-V would’ve been the better model to compare in terms of size than the HR-V.
Yeah isn't the HRV/Vezel a crossover or subcompact something like that. It's between a sedan and an SUV
Tucson had a disadvantage, it was the cheap trim level. The top version one has leather seats and you CAN drop down the back seats from a lever, that works.
It may be a cheaper trim level but it's already at the high cost end of this comparison, so getting one *even* more expensive wouldn't make sense.
The engine blew on my 2018 Kia Sorrento. Hyundai KIA are JUNKS😠😠😠
Uploads been on fire recently 🔥
Excellent comparison Mat!😸
I'll pick the Hyundai Tuscan , cause here in South Africa🇿🇦 (Plug-in let alone Hybrids are not that big in our market yet ) so it will be the Hyundai
I got the kia, after testing all others, and the formentor, and peugeut, VW's and whatnot. The kia is brilliant, does everything amazingly, and i think it looks the best out of all. I recomment the sportage to anyone
👍👍
Mat - it's said "Hyun-DAY", haven't you seen the advert? 🤣
The front of the Tucson looks like the face of the *Shadows* from the TV sci-fi series, Babylon 5.
Anyway, Mat is a great reviewer so even though i'm not in the market for one of these types of vehicle i still watched the video all the way through - well done CarWow!
I love your videos, but please make the Editor lower the bass when Mat is driving the car. Tnx
Please do a review with RAV4 and Mazda CX-5
Carwow agrees with so many other journalists that the KIA Sportage deserves to be the compact SUV of the year.
Appreciate it’s probably more expensive but the test track they used to use in Surrey was better for these reviews, especially the back road and town driving. No one to annoy on a private road 😅
Not only do I agree with your verdict. I took delivery on my new Sportage GT line hybrid last Friday.
Oh no, i thought youd like the hyundai tucson, i love the exterior design!!
Went this week and tested all of them except Honda Hrv, i tries the CRV. Tucson is the best in my opinion. Kia was really bad for me as a tall person. The stering wheel is too up front, even with lots of chair adjustment it wasn't comfortable. Also I was slightly touching the roof of the car. I am 187cm tall.
sportage is better than tucson for the vertically gifted
Completely agree I tested a sportage twice and didn't like the interior space either. I'm 6ft 5 in the end I purchased a Tucson N line after my first drive, it's miles better for space and a more comfortable ride.
It would be fairer to test the Honda CR-V rather than the HR-V which is smaller than the three rivals that it is up against.
True l
True, but for the same spec, it's significantly more expensive here in the Netherlands.
The hrv we get in SEA gets a 1.5l turbo with 180hp, but is sad they dont offer in manual
Honda HRV for UK market looks nice, very different to my country who actually get the panoramic glass roof but it is so annoying because for front passenger/driver it uses a cover that can be pulled out manually and is still quite practical, while for the rear passengers it actually gets a manual cover board which is very impractical only for panoramic glass roof, and I know Mat will yeeeet the cover board because there is no proper storage space inside cabin for that annoying manual board cover
i got the highest trim option on the tucson and it has latches for folding the rear seats + it has leather interior. also, it's the best looking in my opinion, and i like ot better than the kia
I have the KIA Sportage and personally think it's a close call between the 2. Tucson definitely has a nicer rear. One thing I'm certain of though, is that Mat thinking the Honda is the best looking , is far from how I see it.
@@peterg4205 yes, thank you for agreeing!
@@peterg4205 the Honda is astonishingly elegant, it looks stunning, unlike the others.
I have one in the same trim and chose it over the Kia for the looks, I guess that's subjective. I think a lot of the decisions made come down to spec provided on the day unfortunately, which makes it less helpful to prospective buyers as they may not buy in the trim tested
