I love how you called Alicent the “Virgin Mary,” because I think that’s why Cole is going to be the staunchest Green, not because she’s holding some secret over him, but because she’s this proper lady who’s extended grace to him, allowing him to “regain” his honor. Couple that with a little self-deceit about Aegon having a better claim to the thrown and you have Evil Cole. A thin line between love and hate! (or, as you said, some men just can’t take rejection well)

Nice observation! It makes perfect sense. Alicent will notice how much power she can hold over Christon. The man was so filled with self-loathing 9ver his behaviour, he wanted to die. And then Alicent pops up. When you feel you are drowning; beware of the extended hand that pulls you out; you never know how long they've watched you splashing about. Manipulators are good at that; they will extend 'grace' but remind you that it can be taken away if you don't do as you are told. They also keep reminding you, how much they have helped you. I have been in a narc relationship and my narc krept into my life at my lowest and extended 'grace'...myeah, that didn't end well. For me. The narc in turn, profited a lot from my 'devotion'. You are spot on!(sorry for the projection with my own ish. I felt like venting😉)

Alisent always played by the rules: obeying dad, marrying old dude, not knowing a moment of enjoyment and she is the victim. That turns into jealousy, selfrightesness and bitterness towards Rhey. Rhay refuses to be a victim, wants some happiness in life and I suspect that's going south too. Yup, I like the general sympathy towards both girls/young women... • @ajae...
      @ajae... Год назад +1

It's the motive. What else did he have to gain from it? He already said he was prepared for a loveless marriage. Notice how Rhea realized what he was going to do when she tripped up in asking how he was going to get his power back after being skipped over for Rhaenyra. The Vale offered him a legitimate seat of power, but it could only be fully his without Rhea interfering. He now has his own castle, lands, and the most respected army in Westeros for himself.
Killing Rhea simply because they don't get along is a pointless risk. That's not how those people work. And the moment he's asked about it he goes straight for discussing the inheritance. He could have done it years ago if it was just about not liking her. He had even asked for a second wife, he had no plans of killing her until his brother refused to marry him to Rhaenyra and completely cut him off so he couldn't run off to Dragonstone anymore. Everything he does is calculated to bring him the largest reward.
The only problem would be if other people knew the marriage wasn't consummated. Without that the marriage isn't legal, and he would inherit nothing.

As of now people think it was consummated so he is line to inherit her shit and it protects his reputation.

@Azure - jmho, but you can't attach today's sensibilities on this show. IRL, the inner family bed hopping is NASTY, and so would sending your teenage daughter to "support" the King after his wife died...BUT in the time that this story takes place, girls were bartered into marriage to the one that offered the best price and station for the family. And, as far as the uncle / niece thing, you can go back to the ancient "royal" lines in Egypt, Rome, and Greece, and they married relatives all the time to "kept the royal bloodlines pure". Personally, I just have suspend that reality when I watch the show, because that WAS the Targaryen way...siblings, cousins, aunts/uncles, etc. didn't matter. Increasing the Targaryen numbers was the ultimate goal so the name never faded and there would always be a Targaryen on the iron throne.
And, Alicent sure didn't mention anything about her going to see the King every night...that's a lie, but I guess it's ok for HER to lie, just not Rhaenyra? Lying Pot meet Fibbing Kettle...

All Criston has to say is that Joff pulled a knife first, and he had to stop him from hurting someone. With Alicent to back him up, he can easily get away with saying he was just doing his job. Rhaenyra and Laenor can't really argue Criston's true motives without risking outing themselves.

Instead of storming off, snitching on Rhaenyra, beating an innocent man’s face off, and then attempting suicide all because his ego was bruised.

So when Otto plays with other people's lives he's bad, but when Rhaenyra does it to Criston Cole it's no problem? I'm not understanding the double standards here.
Rhaenyra is clearly a terrible person, using her power and position to goad Criston Cole, who is in a subordinate position, into sex even though he clearly was uncomfortable with breaking his vows. A clear MeToo-style violation of another person.
Then when Criston desperately tries to save his honor by asking her to marry him, she explains that she just wants to use him as man meat and couldn't care less about his honor or anything he cared about.
Rhaenyra is acting remarkably callous with Cole, using him as an object to satisfy her sexual urges instead of treating him like a person, and she literally doesn't even seem to care when Criston explained how his position and Kingsguard vows were his entire identity to him, like a spoiled princess who doesn't understand that people who rank below her have lives and feelings too.
It's no wonder Criston breaks down completely throughout this episode, poor guy. They did a great job making his actions in this series understandable, the show is great.

She’s jealous because Rhaenyra had sex with a man who turned on her the first chance he got? Please! Are we seriously acting like she couldn’t find someone else to have sex with if she wanted? Alicent has done nothing but support Rhaenyra to this point, went up for her every chance she got and Rhaenyra lied to her on her mother’s grave. Rhaenyra had her reasons for lying but it’s absolutely fair that Alicent no longer believes she can trust Rhaenyra and needs to protect herself and her son.

Even Alicent sparing his life after he confesses is seen as dishonorable, the code dictates that she has to punish him, but she decides to just let him keep going on as if nothing and she will keep that secret for herself. Gray girllll I love ya! But I feel like we’re going in separate directions with the show portrayal of the Greens. Criston made it clear that while he does have feelings for Rhaenyra his proposal was about saving his honor. He’s upset bc he feels Rhaenyra robbed him of being honorable twice. And I find that understandable bc he said his cloak is all he has to his name. And now it’s soiled. Him becoming kingsguard is the most notable thing ever done by a member of house Cole and it’s understandable why defiling that would haunt him so much.
And as far as Black vs Green being about tradition vs progress I agree with that. But it’s progress for blacks only is what I’m picking up. Bc Rhaenyra is not Dany and she’s not on a mission of revolution. She’s like Daemon and she just wants to do whatever the fuck she wants bc she’s blood of the dragon. Which is fine but we can’t act like Alicent and the greens are some ultimate evil for opposing that and upholding tradition bc when you frame it that way they’re fighting for a higher cause than the blacks. This is my take as of ep 5 so please don’t roast me 😭😭😭.

I think that Alicent saw Rhaenyra as her only ally in court and because she lied to her she feels completely alone.
Alicent has to completely trust Rhaenyra to have mercy and spare her and her children should she take the throne. Now that she can’t fully trust Rhaenyra, she probably feels like she has to take matters in her own hands. I don’t really think it’s about Alicent being “holier than thou”. I’m team Rhaenyra but Otto was right at the beginning of the episode so I can’t really hate Alicent for what she does as it’s really for survival.

She struggles this episode with where she’s supposed to stand and who she’s supposed to back (even though she chooses wrong 😒). I loved watching Alicent struggle and how I’m every scene we see her progression from someone we feel for and want to back to the green b****y queen we see in the books.

I don't think she's chosing the "wrong" side. She's choosing her own side, the side of her family and specially her children.
Actually I'm hating that the series is making me to take the side of the greens by now, cause I loved to hate Alicent in the books, specially when it's said that she hope Rhaenyra died in childbirth while they usurped her. But by now, Alicent had all the right to see for her children specially after Rhaenyra cynically lied to her, Alicent now knows that his father was fired for just telling the truth to the king about his daughter.
And let's be honest, watching the new trailer, Alicent saying that Rhaenyra having three bastard children as heirs for the throne is an insult IS FUCKING RIGHT!!!!
Wtf is wrong with Rhaenyra, she at least should have tried to have ONE with Laenor! Wtf!
Defending that same case it's what caused Ned to lose his head by the Lannisters!!!!

I get you l do ,my way of seeing it is that Alicents whole life and evil decisions later can't ride on "Rhaenyra lied about fucking her uncle" hence her heart was broken and bitterness seeped in .......Coz when we scale it so far she's been an accomplice to her father's lust for power which is treachery coz she knows.....let's not act like she thinks her father loves the realm and simply adores the king and wants nothing but the best for him ....she like everyone else knows that it's her house before all else ...why did she wear the green when she is now a part of the black and red family? Coz the agenda is family and then one's own skin .....say Rhaenyra had been like yup l fucked him then Alicent would have said/done what ? " I go to bed peacefully,my father is fired for something true but my friend will never lie to me ....bye bye dad ! Shes really not a liar!".......Otto wasn't fired for the rumour coz Viserys believed it , Otto was fired for his self serving bull__he didn't bring the news,he made it .If he just wanted to bring the bad news he would have even the messenger killed everything hush hush and then let the king mete out punishment.....he was trailing her , meaning he was waiting to trip her up meaning he knew she would and he wanted the first chance to? No u guessed wrong not protect...to destroy .
      Then for the kids ......
Have you considered that Laenor maybe won't even touch her? It was her _Criston Cole_ who killed his lover....coz he even knew the lovers identity by then ....what is she to do if he won't touch her,he's not dying and she needs to solidify her position by having heirs ?.... honestly if l was in a bind like that__Alicent is birthing them by the year and lm heir with no kids what would l do? -tie up Laenor and rape him so the fandom, fujoshis and male rights activists trash me- thank you ,l'd rather she respected Laenors not wanting her and make wat she's got work ......
Sorry for the long rant.....BTW on your last statement, the one with the throne blood is Rhaenyra not Laenor.....her kids are Targaryen, not like Cerseis bastards from a house not sitting on the throne

    • @luciamota1249
      @luciamota1249 Год назад +5

      @@returntosoilgumiho
I think we both have to agree on disagree.
I am not saying that Alicent is the best person ever, she also lied, but I can understand her position better. It's not a matter if she wants or not power, at this point for her and her children is a matter of survival just as Otto said. The realm will never accept Rhaenyra fully, specially having a male heir, so Rhaenyra could end up killing Alicent's children, no matter if she wants or not, specially if Daemon is her ally, now we can see he's capable of that and Otto knew that.
Now, even when we all know that Rhaenyra is the monarch and not Laenor, marriages are political alliances then, they are important. If that was not the case and Rhaenyra could make whatever she wants then she shouldn't have married anybody since that was her real desire, and passing any child as heir. It doesn't matter if they don't like to have sex with each other, the sad truth of their societies is that they MUST. It was not a matter of rape him, but to make a consensus about that issue. Actually I still can't believe that during all the Dance, Corlys wasn't saying a shit about those kids not being real Velaryons, what makes me believe that he's even worse than Otto, he wants the name of his family related to the Monarchy, even if those are not his grandchildren.

@@luciamota1249 ofcourse we must agree to disagree coz l will never agree😂.
Thank you for your long comment patiently explaining your pov_l just love having these "arguments" especially when the other person engages and actually explains
      Firstly
1.Yeah Alicent is in a tough corner but that's the game they're playing,as far as we can see her dad isn't exactly threatening her life or abusing her in order to get his own ends . Yeah it hurts her but she never once thinks let me run away or kill myself coz I truly don't want a single part of this? Why coz like Rhaenyra she has the game within her and she _wants_ to play her part in a way.... so when the reason for her being right'er' is that she's just trying to protect her own well then l feel that she should have never had those own__should have faked her death and lived as a farm wife or something where she could do so,the true heir is named by the King . The king is Viserys and he chose Rhaenyra. The lords knelt before her ..... what is the actual reason that tradition should trump the sovereign or that a mothers worry should change succession? This isn't even a democracy or whatever (lack of proper descriptive gvt names) they bent the knee these people...Therefore her duty is to protect her own=the kingdom as well her knew family the Targaryens,She wants what's not hers to protect her kids but Rhaenyra wants what's hers to protect her family's power ,it's her right....since when is it fine that the King speaks and the people think " nah this is shit we don't want that?" Let's just protect ourselves.....__
      2. Alicent only wants what's best for her kids but do we consider that what's best for them is a powerful united family? Alicents infighting makes it more like those kids are hightower with parts of Targaryen in their ancestry.....when the Lords watch and see this dragon of a house tearing it's wings to feed it's legs what do they think ? The gods?! They're powerful it looks like disunity but nevermind let's just be obidient good subjects ? She had other options like faking Aegons death , marrying Healena off to a powerful family chop chop and marrying her last born to Rhaenyras first.....hear me out😂,if she believed Aegon would be a powerful ruler then she would have given him the time to grow in secret, maybe slowly offed Rhaenyra or poisoned her so she wouldn't get pregnant and then when Aegon was older ,wiser and more accomplished then she would have even silently killed the unsuspecting Rhaenyra and made it seem like it was natural....that way the Realm doesn't see their dirty laundry and take advantage,as it is Rhaenyra has seen more life and politicking than Aegon 2,The boy himself is constantly being told he will be King__ there's no lust for the throne no resolve he's doing it to survive and he's viewing the older members of his family__ the actual full blooded ones as his enemies. Alicent made him a plucked chicken dragon with a wife of a sister and a brother who dies......mind Rhaenyra isn't innocent either but the throne was hers and Alicents pre emptive moved are treachery...why avoid something that hasn't even happened? Maybe if Rhaenyra had tried to kill Aegon from birth would l be like she pushed her ....come on ,push comes to shove with Rhaenyra not making any moves she could have conspired until she won to get Aegon to marry Rhaenyra and then we see from there.
The throne was Rhaenyras,it's they're familys throne it's their decision,if her dad said Rhaenyra step down and she didn't that would be diff_he didn't
My two points are that the "protecting" Alicent is doing is not really for the best of the Targaryen in those boys,it's for her and her family's best ,yeah she wants to see them live as their mamma but in the end it's not even about them...it's just her

When her father sent her into the king's chambers on the same night that the queen died, she didn't run to Rhenyra and tell her a thing. She knew her father was scheming, and she was as well. Alicent is jealous of Rhenyra. She kind of comes off as a jealous ex-lover. She's also jealous that Rhenyra has her pick of whomever she wants while Alicent has to lay with someone who is 70 plus and losing body parts. Alicent's feelings being hurt is hypocritical.
