    I am happy to see a review not praising Alicent, claiming she is the only one who cares about the Targaryen line. She and her father are the reason for majority of the problems that arise. Found this episode to be gut wrenching. Rhaenyra giving birth then making that insane walk to Alicent's rooms. The obvious love between Harwin, Rhaenyra and the boys. The heartbreaking death of Laena, and equally Daemon 's refusal to have her cut open, totally a different decision from his brother. And Laena's death! What a scene. I swear I saw tears of Vhagar's face. Then the fire at Harrenhal. Larys is an ancestor to Little Finger! So cold blooded, arranging for his own father and brother's death! Hell of an episode.

    My only complaint about E6 was that I would have liked to have seen more or Daemon & Leana before her death in childbirth (and before their marriage started falling apart - were they ever happy together?) and I also would have liked to have seen more of Rhaenyra & Harwin together (just one private moment of the two of them as lovers). I think in both cases it would have made their deaths (Laena's & Harwin's) matter more because we would have had a more intimate sense of who they are. Instead it felt like we got just a "sketch" of each of them.

      First I agree I would have loved a couple of scenes with Laena and Daemon as well as Harwin and Rhaenerya. Not to spoil anything but what I recall from the books is Laena, Daemon, Laenor, and Rhanerya is they spent a lot of time together and were all good friends and it seemed they all had a loving relationship with and without. As far as Harwin and Rhanerya I don't think the book really delved into any kind of chemistry they may or may not have had. It was more like disgraceful rumors so I can appreciate the little on screen time they had on screen because as I recall it, the book only really brought up the accusation in a derogatory way without really delving into their relationship.

    I like the portrayal for Alicent in the way that it shows that she's very self-serving, ignorant and prejudiced. She will not stop making jabs at Rhaenyra, and she will sacrifice her own children and the realm to prove her legitimate rule by "decency". Her and Otto are just power hungry weirdos that like to play the role of a meek and "well-mannered" person, whilst they plot and scheme to brutally remove anyone/anything in their way.

    13:25 Alicent is just living the words Otto instilled in her. I keep thinking that Otto very much set the division off. I mean he sets up his daughter to be a kin maker for the King. Honestly, she wasn't into the entire idea of fighting for the Throne until the episode of Rhanera being "unpure" became in question.... Then after Cole confessed is when she literally transformed completely into her holier than thou final form... She doesn't want Rhaenera on the throne solely because she doesn't believe her to be worthy simply for having the audacity to live her best life... In this story just like in real life - for the patriarchy to exist, it requires buy-in and enforcement from the oppressed.. She has no qualms with men, including her son, to fuck every handmaid in the Red Keep... But Rhaenera doing so is proof that she's unworthy.. Which is why Cole and Alicent are so close. They share this intense moral high ground devoid of their own hypocrisy.... Cole is literally the reason she hates Rhaenera, yet she's close to Cole. Cole hates Rhaenera because she wouldn't trade her birth right to live some anonymous life with him.... They just both need some therapy.

    I loved the episode, but I would have like to see it covered in TWO episodes. There was a lot happening: the sweet relationship between Daemon and Laena - yes, sweet. She was a true warrior princess, and a great mother, and evidently in love with Daemon. Seeing something of how their relationship grew would have been great. Likewise, Rhaenyra and Harwin Strong. They obviously had more than just their children, there seemed to be a connection and a genuine fondness. How did this navigate the dangerous waters of their relationship? How could they keep breeding dark haired children without worrying they'd be found out? What was life like for them over those years? I'm not complaining, and it's true we got to where we got, but there were opportunities to see some excellent characters and their stories. without introducing them one moment and killing them the next. And these were not inconsequential characters. Their actions helped to drive the story, so it would have been most enjoyable to see how they got there. Any time lapse is going to leave questions and holes, and I get the need for it, but just a little wistful thinking here.

The children are her blood, their eggs hatch and they ride dragons. They ARE Targaryen’s, and if they are bastards, all rhaenyra would have to do is speak a few words and they would be legitimate. Especially not while there are trueborn relatives around. If it doesn't matter which parents sired who, why even bother getting married in the first place. Interesting thing about Westerosi bastards. They're so named because they were born on the other side of the sheets. There's also the prevailing wisdom that the mother, or father, is baseborn. To me, that would denote a bastard. House Strong wasn't a lowborn house, iirc. Robert Baratheon had kids by whores. Therefore, bastards. Jon Snow's mother was believed to be Wylla, A lowborn woman, when in fact, Jon had the purest blood in Westeros, that of Old Valyria and the First Men. Technically, 'bastard' is in the eyes of the beholder.

    Thank you for popping off at some of those negative content creators. Sometimes it really feels like they never bounced back from their content after season 8. They still think negatively and hate brings in the views. Been thinking of unsubscribing from a few of them. Every time I finish watching HotD I’m grinning ear to ear, get online and they’re already picking the smallest scraps that could be considered“mistakes” or changes. Anyways my favourite episode so far!!

    Crispin is one of those narcissistic dudes who can't see things from any perspective but his own. He also cares more about himself than his vows, because him opening the topic w Alicent he puts her in immediate danger.

    • @CamelToeAndTheBeast
      @CamelToeAndTheBeast Год назад

      Agree to disagree… from my perspective Criston was one of the most vulnerable characters. Rhaenyra sexually assaulted him and with no concept of consent, Criston suffered from self hate because his vows truly meant everything to him. Once Rhaenyra completely dismissed his idea for his personal redemption that self hate turned into resentment for Rhaenyra. Without therapy or sincere remorse and closure from Rhaenyra, he’s plagued with those feelings of resentment that will continue to eat him up and leave him susceptible to Alicent’s influence. IMO

      He never loved her, the only reason why he wanted to escape with her was to restore his honour he even said himself and he wanted to do that by making her leave everything she ever known and giving her what back ? Oranges ?

    I honestly believe this show was made for book readers bc we understand the time frame and how this is the prologue. It seems the average show watchers are confused, don’t understand the meaning of Alicent wearing green and many have no idea about Vhagar and how he’s 1/3 from Aegon conquest.

    I am so happy to see your review! I wish we had got to see a little glimpse of the relationship between the Valaryens and Targaryans. Daemon is gearing up to be a firece protector of his children. Alicent and Crispin are trash. Larys is that neighbor that has that awkward smile who knows everybody's business. You have a sense that he is spying on everyone. Laena's death was sad and beautiful. I was literally in tears.

    I kind of wish they'd have just called the show Fire & Blood, started with Aegon's conquest, and ended with Bobby B taking the throne. 20+ seasons, pull a One Piece, and just tell this amazing story in sequence.

    • @Twtybird1
      @Twtybird1 Год назад

      Where's the money in that? 😀 Thirty years from now HBO will still be developing prequels and sequels and side stories off the ASOIF books. They may eventually have a separate streaming channel just for all the ASOIF series they produce.

    • @dldarby82
      @dldarby82 Год назад

      @@Twtybird1 right, but they could have done the whole 300 year history of the Targaryen dynasty up to the GoT plotline. There's more than enough material to tell it as a linear story. Plus they'd still have material for the spinoffs. "Snow" is in the works, and is a sequel series. "10,000 Ships" is the story from 800 years ago, when Nymeria fled the Rhoyne River and settles in Dorne. There's about 20 stories from "The Age of Heroes" they could interpret. There's places we've never been to, that you could make up original content; like Ashai, the Summer Isles, Narth, etc. There's the Dunk & Egg series. You could do a whole show about Bitter steel. There's the Empire of the Dawn, and the jeweled emperor's.

    One of the things I love about HoTD is the pacing, the set up for what’s to come. Larys kills for Alicent despite it not being a formal request or command, something Otto convinced her people would do on behalf of Rhaenyra. This show knows where it’s going and is setting up the pins perfectly in order to knock them down later. IYKYK
