This is inspired piano instruction! I am 73 and have been taking lessons for a little over 1 year. I know my scales, my rhythms, and all my chord inversions, but my hand coordination is awful. None of the other online tips on hand independence have worked for me, but after viewing this lesson, I was inspired to try it. Jason, you are right!! Singing the melody DOES get your brain into the mix! I tried the first, basic part of this lesson, just trying to get my right hand playing at double speed while my left stayed at the base speed. Mistake after mistake after mistake, until I slowed WAY down and started singing the right hand melody part. Gradually I got better and better, and had my first mistake-free 4-bar success after banging away for 1 hour. I did it!! There is nothing better than this feeling of accomplishment, that something I thought I could not do, is now done. It may take me months to get to quad time, but I am now determined to get there. Thank you, Jason!

I had already learned the basics of this exercise from another channel. BUT this is a whole new level. The sound of the minor scale is great and made me realize adding in black keys made it much more challenging whether you are using minor or major. Tge C major version of this was getting boring. The metronome is a great idea as well. I haven’t been doing that.

Jason, GREAT exercise! I did quite well playing "divide by 2" Straight, up to 90BPM. A bit of a struggle for me playing it in Swing, I have to turn off the metronome, and just play it much slower. Now, with Triplets -- that's a difficulty for me, my Left Hand doesn't want to seem to "hold it's ground"! Will do more practice, and I'll get it.
So, a question ----- is playing Triplets considered a "Swing" tempo, or "Straight"? Is there any other way to play Triplets, other than what you have shown? Thanks! Jerry

As a guitar player I picked the piano up through the years. In the last year I have started writing a piano piece but got stuck and my left hand just wants to follow the right. Getting my left hand to be independent from my right is a struggle because I hear things in my head but my left hand won't do it.

Thanks a ton! Using a Roland RD88 at the moment but the sounds are processed separately. I just use it for MIDI

practice, practice, practice, patience, patience, patience. Take it as slow as you need to then increase speed. and have confidence in yourself that you will master this. you can do it.🇯🇲❤
