I would like to see a video of what is required when changing/upgrading the motherboard in an existing system. I have ordered the x570 proart and will be changing from a msi x570 gaming edge Wi-Fi board. I currently have a 3950x with a 2080 super gpu. Do I need to uninstall anything before starting?
Absolutely not, literally just swap everything over.
After installing the new motherboard make sure to do your fan curves again in BIOS and Enable xMP. :)
I just switched from on-board optical audio to SPDIF. At the moment I have just a single PCI express drive (Gen 3) and my PC plugs into a Gigabit LAN switch, plus I’m not planning on this being my primary board for more than 2-3 years. Thanks for guiding me to the B550!
I have the X570 in my editing machine with a Ryzen 9 3900X. No complaints whatsoever.
Another key difference mentioned in one of your other videos is that the B550 board will disable Thunderbolt 4 output when the PCIe 3.0 slot is occupied, this doesn't happen on the X570 board. Both of the PCIe x1 slots on the B550 share bandwidth with the second m.2 slot, the X570 PCIe x16 second slot will share bandwidth with the second m.2 socket but not the third. I hope this helps anyone interested in these two motherboards and for more information check the manuals found on the manufactures site.
Thanks for the addition!
well that's a life saving comment ... thanks for the input mate.
If I have x2 980-Pro's (one with OS), to have both NVME drives run PCIE 4, do you use M.2 slot 1 & 3?
@@johnkon2810 If you use M.2 slots 1 & 3 they will both run PCIe 4. 0 and you will still have SATA6G slots 5 and 6 enabled. You can also use slot 2 as it support PCIe 4.0 but this will disable SATA6G slots 5 and 6.
So you need to use the first m.2 slot and tired m.2 slot bc if you 2 you pcie 16 wont work ?
We just built 2 new Ryzen 5950x w/ ProArt X570 systems. Both posted immediately and we haven't even begun pushing the core speeds or RAM (128gb each). So far, the I/O and features seem to be extremely worth the cost and I'd highly recommend this well built and designed MoBo for anyone looking to switch theirs or build something new!
What made you choose the ProArt X570 over the Asus Prime X570 Pro or the Gigabyte AORUS Master?
@@charliecooper3030 Thunderbolt I guess...
Best tech channel for hardware advice/reviews for content creation. Keep up the good work!
Interesting video, thanks for putting it together! €180 difference on Amazon today (€225 vs €405)... would rather spend it on some more RAM.
So grateful to see this comparison as I have 2 quotes from different companies telling me to use either... oddly, one company is telling me I need a Thunderbolt expansion card to be able to use TB4 on the B550.. surely that's not right, they are already in the board??? Though I want to connect this PC to a Apple Studio Display,, which everyone seems to have problems with...
after your film here i order today b550 :) with 5950x :) love your movies - simple tech review for everyone :) many thanks :)
Has anyone figured out why external Thunderbolt enclosures for NVMe drives will not enumerate immediately when plugged in to the X570? I have several Sabrent Thunderbolt 3 enclosures, each with a 1G Sabrent Rocket drive. There is a Thunderbolt 4 dock from Razer plugged into the mobo, and then drives and peripherals connected through there. I have mirrored this setup on my Dell XPS laptop and know that the dock is not the issue as all drives immediately showed up when plugged in. Interestingly enough, the Thunderbolt control panel shows the Sabrent enclosure attached. The drives simply will not mount unless I reboot the PC with them plugged in already.
Brilliant, how about the same on the Z690 vs Z490. I think it is a much bigger difference. Especially in price?
Good explanation. What about audio codecs.
I just got my Asus ProArt X570 board about a week ago. Its beautiful now have to think about all the ways i want get most out of it !
😉👍
And here we are, almost 1 year later exactly we have the ProArt x670e motherboard. If Asus doesn't make a z790 version, I'm definitely considering it. $500USD starting price. I'm hoping to see it on your channel ^__^
Jo
The extras are the thing most people don't think of. Just adding wifi/BT almost brings price parity. I'm surprised to see no x1 slots on the X570 board though. They can be nice to have.
👍
how many of the x570 boards did they send you?
Still looking for a 450 - 500 W PCU that is fully compatible for the X570… apparently the MB has an extra connector not supported by many PSUs…
What type (Size and Type like Micro ATX etc.) for putting in Dell Vostro 220 chassis (Case)? want to use a 19 GB RAM and compatible processor with Win. 11. ???? HELP !!!😇
Quality content!
Great job
It does not make much sense to talk about upgrade path. The B550 board + add-in cards won't match the X570 board in features because the B550 chipset does not have enough PCIe lanes
I share you're opinion. I decided between these before this video came out for a customer.
😉😇
Just put together my new ryzen 3800X yesterday with a MSI B550 -A Pro (not a "creator" MB). Chose the 3800X because it was on sale at $300 US which is $100 less than the 5800X (33% upcharge for the 5800X) which doesn't even come with a cooler. The 5800X has about a 15% performance gain over the 3800X but the 33% upcharge plus the cost of a cooler...even a cheap one was not worth it for me. I do short 1080p youtube vids and even with added vfx, the rendering differences aren't that great that I can't waiting a minute or two extra. I shoot a bit of 4K but mostly 1080p. Even my use of Blender isn't so great that I need a better chip or MB. Plus, I am running with an old Nvidia 1070 and may be staying there as I'm not sure new GPUs will ever make their way to retailers at an MSRP price point.
And, this is certainly a major step up for me considering I was running an old piledriver A8-6600K APU I built back in about 2014....LOL. Try rendering on that, even with the 1070 installed!
Good thinking! 👍
does having the extra m.2 does it take away some pcie
Asus makes it really hard to decide between these boards. Having the optical out for me is beneficial, but having wifi available as a quick backup for internet rather it is from a hotspot or another network is extremely beneficial. It definitely reduces downtime for internet issues and I can get my work done and then troubleshoot the wired connection later.
I think the b550 will be quieter since no fan. I like the option of USB 2.0 even though endpoint troubles are not really a thing on AMD, but still nice to have to not use up 3.0 endpoints if you have a lot of USB live gear.
Thank you so much for making this video! It really helped out a lot. I'm sure many have found this video valuable.
FYI neither of these boards have a fan so both run very quiet :)
Most impossible to find the x570 versions now in a new condition.... People are selling them for like $700 on the used market I don't even understand
I use the B550 Tomahawk with my 5950X and 5900X. I got lucky and got the Motherboards for $149.99 each.
👍😉
look at the vrm"s on x570...its insane
6:57 into clip I some what disagree because it and i do have a (Lan Card) and if it fails i can just reach in and change it out...The X570 not so lucky.
Is asus proart b550 a good option for ryzen 9 5950x than asus pro ws x570 ace for animation(maya and blender) pc?
Yes, b550 is good.
🏆 Accurate breakdown TNLarry.
B550 creator, 5950x mine….flawless thus far.
Quick question can you/anyone point me as to what specs (numbers) I should be aiming for as far as
temps, speeds, voltages ???
Thanks.
Ps… NH-D1 + 3 chassis fans, 3600 / cl18 (32GB)
Well depends on your ambient temperature, but I guess if your not staying in the 83+ when 100% utilised you're fine.
And let the mobo choose the voltage.
@@theTechNotice Got you Thanks. Great work as usual as well TNLarry 🏆🏆🏆.
Ordered Asus X570 😃
One year later and the difference in price is now £200, that is £260/£460 and both have reached their EOL runs so stocks will eventually run out on both. SO what makes these boards so special? Thunderbolt 4 for starters as you can add £100 to other board prices for the expansion Thunderbolt card. Does the X570 justify the price, extra 2xM2 PCI 4 slots, 2x extra SATA slots Wi-FI and faster LAN, only if you are going to use them !! A no brainer if you can write the cost against TAX, let him pay for it !! else the B550 is still a great board even if its features are limited compared to its more expensive brother but yeah the X570 is the dream motherboard for AMD4 chips/build for creators
I am definitely going with the Asus ProArt but will wait for the z690 release next month. It would be awesome if you could do a comparison video on the Intel core i9 12900K vs Ryzen 5950 once Alder Lake gets released? I will be building this new workstation from scratch.
Can't say much, just stay tuned. :)
Better to go with asus Proart Z 690 creator. Now even 12600k is faster than 5900x+ DDR 5+ pcle 5 give a lots of speedy work. 20 bucks more means nothing.
The b550 is 6 layer pcb, thats why it feels thicker because it is thicker.
If you choose a motherboard with only 2 m.2 ssd slots plus you got a „normal“ Samsung qvo 860(2tb) and a Samsung evo 850 (1tb). how would you set them up? If i got it right you need 3 fast m.2 ssds for os/project files/cache but for what what would you choose the normal ssd if you only got two m.2 slots? And how much of a speed lose would it be? Thanks a lot, greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Depends how big are the files you're working with. I'd put the fastest one for OS, then if files are about 4k resolution use the Sata SSDs for project drives and the other sata SSD for cache.
Now you've got 1 M.2 free for another super fast project drive or something like that.
@@theTechNotice thanks a lot for your fast response! So it would make more sense ti use the second m.2 for a project drive instead of a cache drive?
The Asus ProArt X570 is no longer available, the different sites say it's been discontinued, what do you advise for a video editor?
Dunno where you live, but you can get it at Amazon in Germany for 439 Euros.
They do have at least 3 of them on stock, because thats how much of them you can order.
@@syntrilliumc.e.p.9326 thank you so much
@@inspiringstories6727 You're welcome.
shame ASUS cut out the Q-Code display
On b550 can we have 1gpu 1 blackmagic decklink mini monitor and 1 wifi bt card? 🤔
Yes.
@@theTechNotice i think you most do a review for blackmagic decklink mini monitor 4k.😁 That is most have for creators.not mutch reviews on RUclips in details for decklink mini monitor 4k cheers from france.
i love this board so much, i want like, 5 of them and im going to cluster them together.
3 x570, 2 b550
Only 10G lan is worth that 100 pound or whatever difference. The rest are just extras.
Do you know why they discontinued the x570 version?
Probably coz AM4 platform is EOL and they're making a new x670 version, just my guess.
@@theTechNotice That stinks to say the least. Been trying to figure out a good AMD motherboard that also has TB. Quick question, on the Proart b550 the gpu plugs into the display port right so that the TB4 port can send video? I’m trying to find a way to use my old late model 2012 iMac as a display via TB. Thanks for answering my question btw and great channel.
Too bad no optical audio, critical for me
This review didn't mention shared (PCIe, SATA) chipset lanes....
I'm mentioning these on the dedicated videos :)
@@theTechNotice Are you? Do you even know that ProArt X570 shares lanes between SATA_G5/6 and M2_3 and if you put any PCIe device into M2_3 SATA_G5/6 will be switched off?
do you need a video card for the x570
YES
I got my x570 proArt for €376,90 plus a free Cooler Master MASTERLIQUID ML240L RGB V2 worth @ €72,00, great deal I think!
Oh yeah!
@@theTechNotice Building my DAW, you never got round to it so went on my own 🤣🤣🤣
Can't wait you hear what you built. ;)
@@theTechNotice will let you know, would send you pictures, don’t know where though
Great comparison video. Earlier today i bought the X-570 board on Ebay - Motherboard
$429.99 - Shipping $24.66 - Tax - $45.92 - Order total - $500.57 : I feel this is a very good deal for it. Getting this Motherboard is a complete Upgrade of my computer. Later I will be getting a Ryzen 9 5950x to replace my current Ryzen 7 5800x. There will be other upgrades as well - taking it one at a time as i can.
Asus ProArt X570 🤩😍👍
😉👍
Better to go with X570 creator rather to sleep with sick gear.
SSD M.2 at half speed!!!!
b550 doesn't remotely seem worth it
The X570 is now $600 no longer the better option
😱😱😱
The X570 not having 2 2.5GB Ethernet ports makes no sense at all while the B550 for $100.00 cheaper has them.
The X570 has a 10 gbps port instead, which is faster…
@@peare4758 not all x570 boards have a 10 GBPS ports
Pft.. keen to buy this BUT not available in Australia.. soooooooooooooooooooo frustrating.. Asus pretty much said 'we won't be shipping these to Oz'.. can't find another mobo with 3x M.2 & TB4..
