Primarily the deciding factor for me will be the NAS enabled version vs extra Pcie 4 slot ... So ASus for me :-)
For editors of longer formats ...NAS becomes necesary as typical episodic footage dump is more than 6tb

Honestly I think the ProArt deserves our support (with our wallets) by including *real* Thunderbolt 4 - which is so depressingly rare not only on PCs in general, but especially on AMD platforms. Thunderbolt is just *so* much more capable and well-engineered compared to USB, we as consumers should teach PC brands that it's *not* ok to save the $2 in licensing fees - just give us real Thunderbolt, we *do* know the difference!

I got the Aero G but that's because I didn't have any other option except some cheaper boards when I built my NZXT BLD PC. I saw the Aero G and fell in love with how sexy it was and how much better built it looked than the older x570 boards like the Asus Tuf or the Aorus Elite. You can't go wrong with either. They both have a unique look and they both have a ton of great features especially all the m.2 slots. I'm just glad we finally got some quality x570 boards and finally passively cooled. I always felt like the z590's looked and felt so much better in the hands and now AMD has finally caught up. The Aero G also does a great job of playing nicely with my tforce 4000mhz DDR4/Ryzen 7 5800x.

I like both manufacturers... A lot of time it comes down to price and features. Right now I am running the Asus Strix Z690-A. The only manufacturer I usually stay away from MSI, I've had previous issues with a couple of their boards. I like ASRock too, had a Tai Chi that I liked a lot and they have a lot of good budget options... but usually it's either Gigabyte or Asus either one is good.

Wauw, this podcast comes right on time, I'm collecting hardware to build a new system, and these 2 mobo's are in my wanted list. The Gigabyte is able to run M2 SSDs in RAID? Which can double your SSD speed, the other has Thunderbolt They have both plus and minors, for me, working with music DAW, speed is very important, when rendering songs. It takes a lot of system resources to run these smoothly. If you have songs with 100+ tracks in it, without buses. That's heavy stuff. 😁

For audio stuff, I think there's no contest. It has to be the Asus ProArt board. Having thunderbolt is a biiiig plus because of thunderbolt audio devices, but the extra ethernet port is also really good for, as you said, NAS stuff, but especially audio over network like Dante or AVB. Having a completely free ethernet port will make sure you get the least amount of interference on that front.

    • @Rood67
      @Rood67 2 года назад +3

@@abhishikthvutukuri the general layout, specifically no motherboard fan, the placement of fan headers and USB headers, and the quantity of each
I don’t need 10Gb as I don’t have a SAN/NAS drive unit; personally I’d rather have the internal storage that doesn’t need separate power and connection cables
Should I have a backup unit, yes, but between 1Tb OneDrive, 2Tb iCloud, 2 or maybe 10 now Tb GDrive, all shared with family (and we back up sensitive data on smaller drives we can keep here or at other family members homes for offsite backup without putting personal data online) I don’t see the need
Prices are coming down on nvme drives, and this board will run 3 at 4x4 speed (some restrictions apply with what else is connected)
the two USB2 ports for mouse and keyboard that don’t need to waste a USB3 port
And the number one thing for me, because I’ve bricked ASUS boards before; the Gigabyte came ready for my 5950x. I’m not going to change my CPU or RAM so I pretty much never have to risk a BIOS update.
And speaking of the BIOS, the one on this Gigabyte is really nice and easy to make necessary changes
EDIT UPDATE: non technical, the white is incredible when reflecting what little RGB I have in each machine. I’m set up blue and my wife is red. At night, without the brightness of the sunshine, each case has the cool glow on the motherboard that shows through the tempered glass quite nicely.
I learned two things in this build: 1) my diehard dedication to ASUS was misplaced, there are other great boards out there to be had, 2) Fractal will be getting most of my case, PSU, cooling, etc business in the future. The warp speed at which they handled the fan header board issue, getting me two replacement boards in just four days; top-notch customer service and I will reward that by spending money with them.

I ordered the Asus because of the fact that on an older build with a Gigabyte Board my supermicro 25Gig cards did not work and the Gigabyte support was poor.
What has to be mentioned with the Asus: The PCIexpress Lanes and bandwidt limitations of the X570 Chipset will make it unlikely to have full bandwidth on both Thunderbold ports.
Also Asus is not publishing a block diagram für this board. So it will take a lot time to find the best combination of used and unused (usb)ports / PCIe slots / and m2s.

Question. By using a thunderbolt 4 docking station, will all download and upload speeds be faster? Usb thumb drives, external hard drives? Or does the connected device have to be thunderbolt 4 ready?
2 question. I have heard alot of complaints on the aero g not being compatible with corsair icue software, unable to read the 3rd dim slot. Is this problem solved?

The Asus capture screws are a pain. You used to be able to guide the cover back on by just dropping it down back on by aiming it back on with the screw hole. You can't see the hole when you try to put then cover back on with the capture screw in it! You have to many times take your GPU is out and bend down and look in from the side to watch the screw hit the hole. I'd rather keep an eye out for the screws and not lose them. When you make your list, you need to make sure your plusses are really plusses. Just label them differences.
And it's usually never a contest between Asus and Gigabyte :)

Far too prone to glitches and crashes and if you run into the problem I had you will find it difficult to remove as you curse from the constant BSODs. I have no opinion on the ASUS boards. I got the gigabyte board myself. I found both by looking for a replacement for my aorus x570 ultra. Both were appealing, both had great specs, but the gigabyte board was white. I was looking for that, and the asus board was much more expensive than the x570 ultra I was trying to replace. So I went with the gigabyte mainly because It was a display model I found and I got it at a great price. The gigabyte board has one HUGE HUGE HUGE flaw. A lot of aftermarket coolers will not work with it. The bracket facing the back side of the mainboard will be obstructed by the heatsink there. It makes mounting a LOT of aftermarket coolers impossible without modification. In which you have two routes to go, modify the cooler bracket, or remove the heatsink and trim its edge back. Neither are ideal. I wanted to remove an aging ek-pump and cooling system. It was an aluminum setup designed for the vega 64 gpu that I just use for my cpu. Its been going for 5 years now. I tried a scyth, a noctua, and dark rock cpu cooler. All of which, the brackets would not mount flat. SO I am back with the ek setup, wondering if I should trim the heatsink or not. -.-

So if you're looking for a true creator board I eat productivity the most logical senses to go with the Asus it's also future-proofing itself with the 10 gig lan. Gigabyte seems more like a board for an aesthetic design to be shown off and while it does have one extra m.2 support at the end of the day you can easily grab an m.2 adapter and have three or four more and that too drives on top of it so that's really a non-issue those boards are also pretty cheap too. I still feel that gigabyte has some quality control issues before I buy another product from them so until our customer service and until they can get some better QC under their name in staying away

  • @timotmon
    @timotmon 2 года назад +11

Typically Gigabyte offers better VRM staging over ASUS and when you compare the B550 variants of these boards that's certainly the case there. In fact the ASUS is technically a 4+2 phase VRM which on paper is not great but ASUS is super good at managing these types of setups. If you're an over clocker, the gigabyte would probably be the way to go. But as Tech Notice pointed out in the past, the time you spend overclocking doesn't pay off enough in real world situations.

I've bought 2 Asus and 4 Gigabyte so far. They are my two fave mobo brands overall. You really have to own them and test every bios feature before you learn the limitations. Never felt the need to try the others, only ever had minor irritations.

I've had the best experience with gigabyte. Asus I've bought and used twice and they died within a year or 2. Gigabyte in my experience have lasted forever. Right now ASUS has the motherboard with all the features I need, but I'm afraid to buy it because of longevity. 10g etherenet and lightning bolt for AMD chipsets.

Honestly, I think that for me the X57s Aero G is the better deal.
I don't have neither a NAS nor wired 10 Gb network. So that difference to me is to me just irrelevant. I suspect that goes for most people.
The four PCIe 4.0 drive ports that the Aero offers gives it a big plus vs the ProArt . You put emphasis on the fact that you would have to spend about a hundred pounds to buy an 10 Gb network card to get the equivalent network speed on the Aero as you get in the ProArt. Then you just shrug off, more or less in passing, that you will have to pay extra money on the ASUS to get the same amount of PCIe 4.0 ports as you get in the Aero. I just did a quick google and most of the expansion cards I have found are PCIe 3.0 and not 4.0. Those I found that do support PCIe 4.0 often end up costing from seventy-eighty pounds and up. And that's prices a year after you did this review. That should also be taken onto account just as much as the network speed and lessens the theoretical price advantage of the ASUS. But I guess you just got a little over focused on your personal use case. That happens for all of us. I actually need three separate PCIe drives to organize stuff the way I want to. The faster the better. So for my use case😀 it is a no brainer.
That brings me over to the WIFI 6 vs 6E. That is an issue that just is of academic value for most of us. My WIFI network isn't even WIFI 6. That also goes for most of us. So even WIFI 6 is kind of irrelevant. I do have fiber but my WIFI is what is in the fiber modem the network provider used to terminate the fiber connection. I have contemplated to upgrade to a mesh system and what I found out is that to get a WIFI 6 mesh I would have to spend about 200 pounds on a mesh system. If I wanted WIFI 6E I would have to spend from four hundred and fifty pounds upwards to way over a thousand pounds for a fairly reliable mesh system. That is way too expensive for most people and is simply not going to happen until that technology comes down in price in some years. In the meantime that difference is just theoretical and totally irrelevant. And with the revision 1.1 of the Aero. Well, it's got WIFI 6E too. There is no WIFI speed difference anymore. Even in theory.
When it comes to the difference in color and looks I couldn't care less. Yes, I think the Aero is way more pleasing to the eye. I think it's beautiful. Still any motherboard I get is going to live inside a closed Fractal Define 7 case, with metal lids. The only time I get to look at it is when I have to do work inside the case. Which ideally shouldn't need to happen. Except for the occasional vacuuming to keep dust off components. So for that they can look like trash for all I care, as long as they are reliable and work to spec.
The lack of true Thunderbolt is not an issue for me, as I do not have any Thunderbolt drives. For normal backup use an USB 3.2 10 Gb port gives the same performance as a 10 Gb lan does. That and powering power hungry units, and being able to daisy chain them, and run video to screens, are the only use cases I see where Thunderbolt wins. None of them are relevant for me.
I recently got a Samsung G9 49" screen, and by golly, it only had ordinary HDMI, DP and USB ports. No Thunderbolt. Mostly I regard Thunderbolt as marketing hype. "Apple uses it so it must be the best, right?" Apple needed to simplify their portables when it came to ports, so they went to Intel and asked if they could make an all in one, charging, transport and video port standard for them. Intel said "Of course! As long as we can make it proprietary and make money of the licenses and not free like USB". Apple has always loved proprietary solutions so they agreed with a big grin.
All in all, those were the factors that made me order the X570s Aero G as a replacement for my ten year old ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE, Socket-1155. After watching (maybe) all of your reviews on the motherboard it was a clear winner. I also read and watched a lot of others, but yours seemed to be the most thorough and more to the point for workstation use cases. I found some other guyswho were reviewing the board as a gaming board. They really missed the point. These boards are made to be reliable workhorses. You don't buy one of these for gaming. There are plenty of better options for that use case out there.
So, thank you very much for helping me make up my mind. I really appreciate that.

I'd go with gigabyte. 10gbe is a waste right now. You can always upgrade when the tech comes down. All ports should be usb 3.0 or higher. 2.0 is outdated. Thunderbolt is more of a "mac" technology. Although it is higher speeds, I do video editing and currently don't have thunderbolt in my system and it runs fine. Thunderbolt is fast, but there is a reason not all boards support it. Having said all that, I'd still go with gigabyte even without 10gbe option.

and Gigabyte also has more m.2 slots which is helpful to creators (professional) to download big files .

Simply, if you'd like to combine your PC with an external GPU rig, with let's say 2 more GPUs, you have to rock thunderbolt 4. No way to do it with 3.2

I have had a number of hardware issues with Asus... i had 2 Asus ROGS gpus the best money can buy and both of them were horrible. they one gpu the heatsink wasnt making full contact with the gpu core and was drastically overheating and the other gpu the middle fan didnt work and when i got a replacement the middle fan was making a ton of noise!

I wouldn’t choose either. I’ll keep my Asrock Taichi Ultimate board, 10gig Ethernet + 2x 1Gig Ethernet ports. Thunderbolt, even though none of my music gear uses it. Everything I use is still usb from my Access virus to my MX1 or TR8S. The taichi board also has 5 pcie slots which I populate with three Avermedia capture cards, a sound card and a Radeon VII. So creator boards need 5 pcie minimum for me.

I went with the Gigabyte for 3 reasons.
1: I am gaming with it, so I needed the local storage. 4 m.2 lanes is great. Also, gen4 speeds and the wifi is actually really good.
2: The aesthetic is vastly superior in my opinion. Extremely clean. White/brushed aluminum with blue branding. non-RGB.
    3. I tend to support the underdogs when it comes to company size and influence. ASUS is a massive brand at this point, and they don't need my money. I'm also not a fan of their branding; "ASUS STRIX ROG WOW RGB COLOOOORRRRSSS GAAMMMMIINNNNGGGG" - vomit inducing.
