  • People regularly ask - How much does it cost for foreigners to live in the Philippines? What is the cost of living to retire in Asia? In this video I breakdown my monthly budget and cost of living costs renting a condo in Cebu city. I list the monthly cost of my accommodation, food, electricity, water, internet and visa renewals.
So much nonsense is quoted on other channels about how much money you need to live in the Philippines. Cost of living figures quoted suggest a minimum of $1500, $2000, $2500 per calendar month which is utter BS. You don't need that money to live comfortably. This video will hopefully put the record straight once and for all.
Cebu is a vibrant Asian city and favorite travel destination in Asia. Cebu has the best of both world - combining the city life of shopping malls and nightlife with beaches and paradise islands.
In the Philippines, foreigners can stay for up to 3 years renewing their tourist visa every 2/6 months. The Philippines should be on everyone’s bucket list with its beautiful white sand beaches, fabulous idyllic islands, turquoise sea and stunning scenery. The Philippines is a traveller’s paradise and regularly included in top ten favorite places to visit in Asia and affordable, favorite world holiday destination.
Many foreigners/expats choose the Philippines as the best country to retire in Asia and live in paradise. The Philippines is one of the cheapest countries to live in the world with its low cost of living and all year sunshine. Retiring in the Philippines is affordable on a budget of less than $1000 per month.
Filipinos are welcome and warm people. Filipinos are often regarded as the most friendliest nation in Asia and nicest people in the world. English is widely spoken throughout the country. The Philippines is included in the top ten English speaking countries in the world. The majority of Filipinos are highly proficient in English, so it is very easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends.

Carlos, I am in the same city and believe me you need at least $1,000 for Cebu city. Cebu is as hot as Dallas, you need AC most of the time. Opening the windows brings mosquitoes even at 9th floor. Rent are going up here and Filipino food are not tasty. You will have a hard time finding cilantro here and beans. Recently more beans are showing up in 1-2 supermarkets. He is lucky with his limited budget but as he mentioned he is always home cooking and drinking at home, perhaps no budget for pizza or ice cream or entertainment. He is just alive and alone. Girlfriend needs to be comfortable in your place which is extra money. Watch other people videos as well. There is a different life style living with $1,000 per month budget in Dallas vs. El Paso

@@Ocean-in-Motion I moved to Huspeth County near El Paso, From Houston, TX, it is cheaper to live in El Paso. El Paso is In America so it's still more expensive than Cebu . I believe you can do the small budget talked about here. I also know that you should take emergency funds that you should not touch. Keep an active USA account that has some kind of extra money flowing into it such as ssi or money from a house you might be renting in USA.
With all that said, live within your means. I would cook at home also. I'm not saying go over there with just $600.- $800., But it can be done.

I totally agree, man. These expats always commenting, 2k usd minimum to live in any of these SE Asia areas. What?! 2k minimum...even like 3k minimum, some say. dried foods are very salty, they are also very cheap so you only have few pieces of those + rice. -- considered as poormans diet. But I have a tastebud for it. Here in it's very expensive I think it costs like AUD15.. where as over there costs roughly AUD5 or less.
stir fry vegetables or mixed with whatever is actually cheap
basically if you live in western countries - try making asian foods - they are cheap! Then count in currency - so in Philippine terms it's cheaper! Try stiry frying stuff and look at your costs. It's not that expensive!
Fish is cheaper than meat in Philippines.
1kg of prawns back in 2017 cost me AUD8.
      ----
again, there are trade offs - the biggest of them all is standards. Majority of western people would litterally spit them out because they are not used to it. Also not that healthy (very salty dried foods).
Fresh foods - buy them from wet markets it's cheaper.
--- housing: in provinces anywhere between AUD100-300 average or more - poverty line, build what we call bahay kubo or things like coconut houses.
-- transport - use local. less than 50c a ride.
again standards is the main difference -everyone is trying to westernise so keeping up with the jones has crept into people who earn peso and spend dollar. Where as we earn dollar and spend peso.

If you are good at budgeting, it can be done, especially if you can find cheap rent, eat very cheaply. Most guys can't go without higher food, no AC, no night life, no health insurance and without saving something for a rainy day. Trouble with having very low budgets without backup is that there is breakage, things that go wrong, inflation and fluctuation in the exchange rate that can cut into your budget. Now if you have a good emergency savings backing you, the pressure would be lesson quit a bit. I ran a budget if I were single, knowing what I know now living in the Philippines if I could find rent around $200, my budget ran less than $600 and that was without the items I mentioned above. I live just outside Cebu City myself.

A couple needs a mnimum of $2,000.-$2,500. per month for a decent quality lifestyle! This will include a healthy diet with fresh chicken, fish and pork plus vegges! Anyone over 60 needs health insurance and try pricing this! Throw in rent, electricity and propane gas. Then there are toiletries, home cleaning chemicals and laundry. Many incidentals always pop up in life. So I can not buy into this $600. per month and find it to be misleading!

    Pounds 600 = PHP39K
    USD600 = PHP33K
    AUD600 - PHP21K
What's the mediaan income - google says PHP44K per month-I am guessing these are for professionals-who's been there for a while. As I read people in (usually) Engineering getting PHP18K per month. Also regional are different it could be half that.
There are always trade offs, such as quality of life ofcourse. I've never stayed in big cities. The last time I was there in 2017. I saved up AUD2K including plane ticket of AUD1.3K. Meaning AUD700. I came back home to Australia with AUD500.. yup spent 200 bucks for almost 1 month (3 weeks). Of course you gotta breakdown why 200. Accomodation was free, transport being walking distance, was free.
