- In this game of Civ 6, we’ll be playing as Basil’s Byzantium, and I’ll be showing off one of the most broken strategy combinations in Civ 6 right now.
I’ve maintained for many a tier list that Byzantium is the most powerful civ in the game, and under Basil I really do stand by that. Why? Well let me show you why. We’re going to use Byzantium’s many abilities to crusade, pillage and cavalry our way to victory. Tagma ahoy!
In this game, I’ll be showing you just why this strategy with Basil can be considered to be so overpowered. Some would even say… BROKEN. Overlook him at your peril!

When I started Civ6 being inspired by Ursa, the first deity game I played was Byzantium. Even in my hands, there was nothing the world could do.

40:43 Actually, Basil was my first Domination victory in Deity. Because at the end of the game, I just use bombers on ennemy cities and didn't bother to kill their units, so i didn't convert their cities to the glorious and rigtheous ways of "qezrfreswqztgszegszg" religion (you know, the only true one religionà
One of my favourite games of civ i ever played was when i was getting the achievement for winning dom on huge island plates and i chose Basil, because by the end of the game Taxis is giving you like 20 extra strength and you are knocking out like 3 cities per turn with maxed out tank armies. That game was especially wacky because i was stuck on two cities because of where i spawned until i got Tagmas and was able to conquer two neighbours in like 20 turns.
One of the best game set ups Civ 6 has to offer = )

Losing my religion
After watching yesterdays video I was inspired to play byzantium on a small acapelagos map to see how strong the dromons are, yeah the answer is very XD I built one settler at the start, then dromon rushed the whole world lol. And actually got a domination victory not a religious one :D
I just knew you wouldn't be able to do a domination victory!!! The only way I have managed with Byzantium is to ignore the last power until I have conquered the rest, and then take a force with lots of bombards directly to the capital not fighting anyone on the way in.
Takes far too much patience for me!!
Byzantium is among my favorite civs (also love Gaul, Germany, China, Japan) but I've never once pulled off a domination victory, it's always religion...good to hear it's possible, but I haven't really sorted out the how.
I love lake boats whenever people have declared war on me its always been my life saver.

I would have left some Tagmas unupgraded as they grant +4 combat (and religious) strength to neighboring units. Works regardless of unit era.
Always a good tactic - they just weren't needed though in fairness!! XD

This time it was actually not that hard to get a Domination Victory. You could have just gone for the Nubian capital without converting them. GG

Byzantium is so OP, it's only fair to play it on a challenge map, and even then...there's the Ursa factor

If you want a real challenge, try to play Byzantium against all Shaka Zulu AI
More tricky but you'd still be fine - those tagma run through impi so fast!
because you hadnt discovered norways capital the religion isnt spreading to it
It still spreads! You just can't see the text = )
Not 100% sure about this but I believe units don´t gain xp if you don´t promote them.
