I'm addicted to 80s music. Discovering gem after gem. I might be imagining it but the melodies in 80s music are so much stronger more identifiable than songs today.

Stroke of genius to give it up to the sax at the end. Highlights the beautiful melody this song has and the bittersweet heartache that comes with being in love.
Damn, the perfect upbeat pop song with a gazillion hooks. And that slight change in cadence @1:15 is pure genius. I could leave this on repeat and have it as background music to lift your spirits throughout the day.
Scotland rolled out some of the most epic and timeless tunes during the 80's with the likes of Deacon Blue, Big Country, Simple Minds, The Proclaimers, Annie Lennox, Wet Wet Wet and of course these guys. They also did pretty well with hard rock such as The Almighty, Gun and icons Nazareth. Such timeless music from a particularly beautiful and historical part of the UK.
I visited Edinburgh last Summer, when I took a trip up to the Highlands to see the scenery, Glencoe and the Loch Ness the mini coach played a playlist of songs that came from Scotland and for some reason this one stuck in my mind the most. Now whenever I hear this sound I am always reminded of my trip to Scotland and cherish it. Had a lovely time in a lovely country. ⬜🟦
47 Meters Down: Uncaged brought me here. I know every 80s song there is, never heard this one. Instantly fell in love and it's like I get a new 80s song somehow.
I worked at the Virgin Megastore when this was a single. Man, WEA pushed it like nothing else. They saw it as a hit. Roddy Frame could've been a big star. Strange that it didn't happen.

Well who cares what people say
We walk down love's motorway
Ambition and love wearing boxing gloves
And singing hearts and flowers
But somewhere in my heart
There is a star that shines for you
Silver splits the blue
Love will see it through
And somewhere in my heart
There is the will to set you free
All you've got to be
Is true
A star above the city in the northern chill
A baby being born to the overkill
No say, no place to go
A TV, a radio
Ambition and love wearing boxing gloves
And singing hearts and flowers
But somewhere in my heart
There is a star that shines for you
Silver splits the blue
Love will see it through
And somewhere in my heart
There is the will to set you free
All you've got to be

What's never been as one
And our hearts have been torn
Since the day we were born
Just like anyone
From Westwood to Hollywood
The one thing that's understood
Is that you can't buy time
But you can sell your soul
And the closest thing to heaven is to rock and roll

I'm addicted to 80s music. Discovering gem after gem. I might be imagining it but the melodies in 80s music are so much stronger more identifiable than songs today.
correct, the 80s were great
I am 51 and lived through it. The music was and remains astonishingly creative. Not all of it was great ( a matter of opinion as subjectivity comes into play) but no decade had so many boundary pushing genres.
Nailed it
FACT
Hell yeah weird music and fashion with no tech or cellphones the 80s were just so corn-... i mean cool.
You can't buy time but you can sell your soul - what an amazing lyric
I agree
[Verse 1]
Summer in the city where the air is still
A baby being born to the overkill
Well, who cares what people say
We walk down love's motorway
[Pre-Chorus]
Ambition and love wearing boxing gloves
And singing hearts and flowers
[Chorus]
But somewhere in my heart
There is a star that shines for you
Silver splits the blue
Love will see you through
And somewhere in my heart
There is the will to set you free
All you've got to be
Is true
[Verse 2]
A star above the city in the northern chill
A baby being born to the overkill
No say, no place to go
A TV, a radio
[Pre-Chorus]
Ambition and love wearing boxing gloves
And singing hearts and flowers
[Chorus]
But somewhere in my heart
There is a star that shines for you
Silver splits the blue
Love will see you through
And somewhere in my heart
There is the will to set you free
And all you've got to be
Is true
[Bridge]
Who could heal
What's never been as one?
And our hearts have been torn
Since the day we were born
Just like anyone
From Westwood to Hollywood
The one thing that's understood
Is that you can't buy time
But you can sell your soul
And the closest thing to heaven is to rock and roll
[Guitar Solo]
[Chorus]
Somewhere in my heart
There is a star that shines for you
Silver splits the blue
Love will see you through
And somewhere in my heart
There is the will to set you free
All you've got to be
Is true
Somewhere in my heart
There is a star that shines for you
Silver splits the blue
Love will see you through
And somewhere in my heart
There is the will to set you free
All you've got to be
Is true
This song just makes me happy..and I love the 80's dance moves from the backup singers!
Greatest song Neil Finn never wrote! 😉
Roddy's brilliant!
Came here because it reminds me of schooldays and living at home in the 80’s...yes I am middle aged and I remember when it first came out
I never heard of this band from the 80s. I was serving in the USAF and it took me to Korea. So glad I'm hearing it now.❤
Me too right now
What a fabulous voice this lad has
Scotland has produced some phenomenal singer's this lad is one of them.
Paul Haig too

Que hermoso tema . Te da una nostalgia de tiempos que hoy parecen mejores.

@@orlawalsh1334 IL DANCE TOO ....
@@buickmclean8163 I'm female, haha

Te felicito p la edad!!! 👏👏👏

When I was 104 it was my favourite too
A mis 51 años jamás había visto el video, es tan hermoso como la misma canción, el toque blanco y negro le da una juventud eterna.
At 51 I had never seen the video, it is as beautiful as the song itself, the black and white touch gives it an eternal youth.
i’m 27 and absolutely love this song. the 80’s was the best decade for music, i really feel i was born too late!
simply do what the rest of your generation does: hang out on youtube leaving hundreds of comments about how "underrated" every '80s group you newly discover is
I heard this song for the very first time in my life today....wow..what an awesome underrated song!!!! Hope someday it gets the fame it deserves...
It did, back in ‘88… ☺️
This song is one those songs you call a perfect song. It just flows perfectly. Love it ❤️
Always thought Aztec Camera, never got their recognition back in the day. Just think go up to your friends ask them if they have heard of them? Sadly 99% no.
They 99% probably are no longer Innocent !
Sadly u r right!Great scot band so far!
How I fancy those times mate!
Most will know this song though guaranteed
Just one hit wonder
A fabulous song and fabulous days back then
Here from 47 meters down uncaged - what an amazing song!!! I can’t believe I’ve lived 38 years of my young life never knowing this song has been here the whole time ❤ Now the rest of my days are complete 😉
Same here. I actually paused the movie just to check out the video and came across your comment.
I'm pretty sure I've heard this song before in other movies or on the classic radio, but only properly digging this song now at 40 years old. Lol.
i remember this with love, running through a wheat field with my Walkman, feeling the freest and happiest ever, so thank you for forever as i live, for this song and feeling ❤
Stroke of genius to give it up to the sax at the end. Highlights the beautiful melody this song has and the bittersweet heartache that comes with being in love.
I’m 15 and this has been one of my fave songs for 3 years
FACT
lots of time for you to discover great music.
Many classics from the 80's check them out. Proud of you as today's music is 💩 in comparison
Top tune from a man from the Westwood. Love the leather jacket and black and white vid. Cool as. Roddy Frame is a top singer/songwriter!!
+John Pirie I am totally agree with you. What a talented artist!
God bless 80s music!
I don't care what anyone says- the 80s and 90s were the best
Pure joy - pure summer ! All these years on and always will be ! Perfection.
Here July 2020? This song is over 30 years old! As great a song today and will be again in another 30. So uplifting and happy
July 2020 too
You're absolutely right Sara. I fully agree with you.
My cousin went to school with Annie Lennox, her uncle ‘Mannie Lennox’ was the music teacher at our local academy

You forgot to mention the Associates!
@@lucetteketley9114 Nobody’s perfect mate. Feel free to add more that I missed out on. That’s more music for us to check out.
1988, best year ever in music, I was a teen at the time, I miss those days but am glad I can go back and live memories all again though music.
I cannot live without my music. I live in Edinburgh right next door to Holyrood Palace. Music is my escape!
i'm 77 and i love it too!
Good for you ! Don't forget you're only as young as you feel 😁 forget the number 👍🎶🎵😘
So fresh and so full of energy. Pure bliss.
First time i've heard them in 1989 .i recorded them on video cassette and watched them so many times.I love all of the group members and now memories of 1989 coming back to me.Thank you , this song is so inspirational for me.I feel like i have a pair of wings................
+svetlana voloshina I feel the same like you do:):)
Aztec Camera,Erasure,Depeche Mode,Pet Shop Boys,OMD,Eurythmics...Great UK Bands 80's ! Greets From Poland ;-)
80's was the decade of the new wave and I love it.
Yes, really, really great bands, i was a teenager in 80's in Poland :)
Los 80 decada de oro de la musica sin lugar a dudas.
Growing up I’m the 80’s to now, I’ve heard thousands and thousands of songs in my time.
This will always have a place in my top 10 ever greatest songs.
Same. Four minutes of joy.
Was 25 working in the Shetlands oil refinery when this came out , good and bad memories, 🇬🇧🏴
Listening to this on 3 February 2024. One of my favourite Scottish 80s songs. Love it ♥
I'm listening 1st April 2024 love it !
