I was disowned for standing up against my abuse for the first time, so yeah. I had only just started making my own choices instead of going with theirs. It's been 6+ years, my dad passed away and no apology from my mom. She continues to double down on her stingy remarks.

I'm so sorry. My mom was told she was the reason my dad hit her and that she probably deserved it, by her own mother. But of course my mom gave as good as she got and certainly wasn't a wall flower. Love her to bits and am happy she met my step dad after leaving my dad. Still see my dad (kinda its been like 5 years or so maybe 10) occasionally but we are not close. They divorced and after I was 12 and didn't immediately choose to live with him it was like I was no longer his kid. He kept up appearances but that's about it. Noone should be disrespected and im sorry that happened to you. I hope your in a great place now. ❤

You know, I was skeptical on whether or not the first story is true. Because if OP and her siblings were born in China between 1980 and 2016 that would mean that their parents violated the one child policy. And they would lose everything that the family accumulated.
However, I just learned that Hong Kong was the exception to the rule, which allowed families to have more than one kid even if they originally lived outside of Hong Kong. If they were born in a hospital in Hong Kong, they can move back outside of Hong Kong with multiple kids.
So if you were wondering the same thing, I was here’s the answer to it. 😂

Sam is totally right when it comes to rich kids from China. I live in SoCal and my family used to host kids from China in a cultural exchange, and these kids had MONEY. They had fat cash in their wallets all the time and we had to tell them to leave the majority of it back at the house in fear they could be robbed. One kid already had a nice Iphone and asked us to drive them to the Apple store to buy another one. Why? I dont know. But he called his father and he approved so we took him and he paid it off in cash 🤷‍♀️ A funny story i remember though, is these kids LOVED my moms spaghetti and wanted it all the time. While they were very wealthy, they were very respectful and wanted to blend in with American teenagers and go to Target and the mall.

Riley i was also born the year of the dragon however I seem to have been overlooked in the luck department associated with the year of the dragon. I've been pretty unlucky my whole life....hopefully it improves. As for op although i'm happy that she's happier i also believe that the change of behavior of her family is downright fishy. Either she's a fall guy or they are cozying up to her because her gong gong is giving her the main control over the companies.
Edit: @okop story 2: respect goes both ways and i'm fairly certain (from what op says and my own experience) that op's parents didn't respect him even with his achievements (his company)my family is similar in demanding respect but not giving respect in return.
Story 3 the parents are being A-holes and are just upset that the younger brother eloped. Op is nta, the parents are acting like children that are having a tantrum

In NC it is legal to work at 14, but with limited hours, I think the most you are allowed to work a week is 12 hours with 4 hour shifts and no heavy machinery(I used to work with someone like that at an ice cream shop I worked at)

2nd story: OP's parents messed up by making them pay rent. They should've instead told OP that they needed to give $300 to be put into a college and house savings account. Parents saw it as a way to give them responsibility, but it came out as OP feeling independent. At 20 there is no way to ask anything as parents from OP.

Man... I am ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that the favorite kid knows and sees and is very much aware of the favoritism. Always. They may not be aware of every situation that it happens in, but they are very much aware that it happens. It just depends on the favorite as to how they manage all the weight and emotion from that, if they care at all or if they're evil/purposely obtuse about it.

We never charged our kids rent until they were over the age of 18 and had a job for 6 months. And we only charged them a percentage of their monthly average, similar to the percentage of housing in the area we lived in. When they reached the level of moving out, nearly every penny we charged them rent for - was given back to them as a down deposit on their own place. I say nearly bc when we would buy them bedding, towels, or needed the extra money for food - it was used. And when they moved out, they had their own bedding, towels/washcloths, and i always sent w them a few boxes of food. But outside of telling them i didn't want ppl i didn't know in my own, no smoking, and to keep my doors locked and chores done (do your own dishes, shared bathroom chores) - i never told them what they could or couldn't do. My rules were rules of respect for others in our home, more then rules for them individually. And it worked out well.

If they're tryna make her the "fall guy" for past actions it won't work. It won't hold up in an investigation since they'll easily be able to find when she took control of the shares of the company. She won't be the fall guy of any of the past illegal issues, but if she agrees to assume control going forward she could be held responsible for any future illegal actions. But since she will assume control she will have the power to find/stop/report anything shady or illegal. Once in control anything illegal going on under her watch is her problem but since she'd be in charge, she'd have the power to stop it too and run a clean ship. Nothing prior would stick to her given the public info of the transfer date, as well as the easy to prove fact OP was cut off and out of country for 2 years

I feel that the grand pa wanted her back and realized how hurt she was and put pressure on the family to make things right, But also the family knew that the grand pa would give her something but not that big. It’s one thing to have her back in the family and another thing to get use to the shift in the dynamics of relationship changing.

I've been watching too many Asian dramas...K dramas specifically. I too was thinking the worst. Like the family wanted her back long enough to scapegoat her or trap her to steal her organ...for the more loved daughter. I hope things improved for her for real but this life has jaded me and I see all kinds of RL stories. I am glad that her Gong-Gong was more decent and loving however she should not let down her guard!!!!

My dad told me to get eloped and said he wished he had done so and just spent more money on the honeymoon. I don’t see what’s wrong with someone deciding they want to elope 🤷🏻‍♀️ (my mom did run from the other room yelling “what did you just tell her!” Which was funny lol)

48:46 you don’t have to be scared if you raise them well… a lot of kids when they do well for themselves they want to spend a little on their family especially their parents.. however, that’s usually only the case if the parents were emotionally supportive to that child

I would of responded: Sorry, do I know you? Last time checked I was removed from your lives, remember? I was banned for ever setting foot in your mansion, homes, and business. You can't just summon me to come back to your life like I'm a peasant or a maid. Matter of fact, if you didn't worry about my well being for the past two years, why now? Is your conscious making you feel bad for how horrible you were. I made a life for myself now and did it without any family. From my understanding you only have one favorite daughter. You don't need another one. So don't ever contact me again. I dont need narcistic and evil people in my life. Best wishes for you and your family. 😊
