@emilyburns5987 I think you need to refresh your knowledge of the word "entitled." The only one actually entitled to that land is the owner. The condo people have no rights to that land and are the ones acting entitled to something that is not their's. The landowner owes those people absolutely nothing. Whatever jealousy and envy they have doesn't change that.

@@Karamarika As I have said in another comment, just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean you aren't an AH. 1st story: it doesn't matter what the previous owner let the neighbours in the condo do, the current owners can say "the house has been sold and I'm not okay with that." Also, it is a liability issue because someone could get hurt on their property when they aren't there and they could be sued. And OP isn't cutting off beach access. There is beach access if you walk 5 minutes.
2nd story: OP is not the AH. It isn't the first time Jake has been late with the rent. It isn't OP's responsibility to remind him to pay the rent. Jake is an AH because he's a freaking adult who should make sure he deals with his responsibilities and one of them is PAYING THE FREAKING RENT. Where is Jake going to stream from if they get evicted for not paying the full amount?
3rd story: it isn't the OP's fault that the kid ate the brownie. Where was the parent when the kid was eating the brownie? How old is the child? That kid should know they have allergies and can't eat something if they don't know what's in it.

    • @Catmom-gl5nt

@jomc6734 The new owners are incredibly lucky that the path didn’t become grandfathered in. People have lost private property because they purchased property that previous owners had allowed access for a number of years. It’s a grey area legally where enough time allowing general use encases that use as part of the property. You see this in the UK where farmers that have general use paths across their properties having their livestock escape or die because people crossing the property don’t properly close the gaits. Very unfair to property owners.

  • @bunnycakes7897
    @bunnycakes7897 4 месяца назад +41

For the first story, if they have a pool with no fence they can be liable for people who get in their pool and get hurt because they didn't block access to it. The previous owners were stupid for letting people they didn't even know have access to that part of their property regardless of the rules about gating the beach path.

  • @BrownEyedChick

Rich or not, nobody wants random strangers passing through their yard. When I was younger we lived in a townhome and we were the only ones on the block who didn’t have a fence in the backyard. We were also in the middle but there was a gap between the next town house and our house. So ppl would cut through our yard all the time and drop trash which me and my sister’s had to clean up the trash. So I’m with them fencing it off, it’s their property and everyone else will have to walk.

You know how it is, sometimes friends just need to crash for a night or so. My parents are coming for December. What is your address? I want to make sure they get to the right place. 5:46 My family has had this problem before and can confirm, having random people walking through your yard SUCKS. My parents own 10 acres with a barn that they recently finished paying off from our neighbors, however there’s a land-use agreement with them that doesn’t end until next year. They keep their goats at the barn, including kids and in the past have told people to go on out and look at/ play with them. The problem is that the only access to the back of the property is a road that runs through the backyard and the way the house faces you can see right into the back of the house where there are some rather large widows. People regularly stare into the house and yard at us like we’re the weirdos when they’re on our property. We’ve also had several of our chickens mysteriously appear dead in our backyard with what looks suspiciously like dirt or tire tracks on them. The other day some dumb ass teenage girl drove through our yard at 30 mph and nearly hit my cat. The neighbors who the land-use agreement is with are very nice people who we love. They’re very understanding and now only have a couple of people who go out there twice a day.

I'm so sorry that this is happening to you and your family! Even more sorry for the poor chickens and your most likely traumatized cat.
Our front windows to our house were huge. Nearly floor to ceiling, and wall to wall, and until I was able to find curtains and valances that properly covered the windows I told my husband that I felt like I was living in a people aquarium. 😂
Thankfully, we've since replaced the windows (they were old and needed replacing) with although still large, but more normally proportioned windows. It's great because having to buy the longest curtains and widest valances on the market wasn't always friendly to our house budget. We had those dang windows for 20 years too, so there were replacements needed at times. 😂

I’m just glad our neighbors have taken our comfort into consideration and either take care of their goats themselves or have someone we know do it for them. They really are lovely people. We also have since been keeping our chickens in their runs, so they don’t free range anymore and now they’re safe❤️

@lillyreyes9028 Absolutely! I work for the government and a couple years ago at a barbecue thrown by another dip couple, I made flourless peanut butter cookies because the hostess had severe Celiacs disease. I didn’t realize there would be unattended children, I am very careful with allergens, as I am deathly allergic to shellfish and understand the danger. I make sure pans are fully cleaned and different sponges are used, I also carefully label all food I bring. The children descended on the cookies and I found myself yelling to the company at large, asking if anyone had a nut allergy. Parents need to protect their children if they can’t protect themselves.

(Me)" As the "golden child" I saw how rebellious my brother acted and how much our dad disciplined him. Our dad would yell, get angry, talk down to us and he even hit and wrestled my brother before. Whether it was for bad grades, misbehaving, rebelling, "talking back", etc I was the "golden child" because I knew to keep my mouth shut, say what our dad wanted to hear, keep up with decent grades and not rebel at least in front of him. Sometimes the "golden" children just know how to be that way to not face the consequences of the other sibling because they know what will happen if they do what their siblings did. Now I'm not saying OP's parents are abusive or like my dad, I'm just saying that golden children usually learn to not make the same mistakes as their other siblings if they see there is a serious punishment or consequences for their actions. For OP, it was probably seeing her brother have a kid at 18, having to deal with all this baby stuff, getting a full time job, having to pay rent to the parents, needing them to babysit, etc that she didn't want to make the same mistake as him.

In most cases, they would add another pass on both sides of the houses so you can actually get to the beach and it’s separated by two big fences from the outside area of the road from what I’ve seen with a lot of these houses so no one else’s house or backyard is compromised

So you think the owners should have given up part of their property? That they have a paid for, for the public to use? Heck no. They would essentially be giving it away. They could be then taken to court if they ever decided they didn’t like the set up anymore and potentially just lose that part of their land. That’s a slippyslop slope they should not consider. While it’s more convenient for the condo people, they need to suck it up and just walk 5 minutes. Look what happened when OP moved in people were already asking what she’s doing because they expected to be able to go through her yard. Luckily it wasn’t long enough for the OP to lose that part of her property. There are some stories out there about this exact problem.

For the roomate story, I'm kinda super focused on the fact the man HAD the money to pay rent, didn't, then basically became the equivalent of a beggar on the street and had asked people who had their own rent to pay, to pay his and gis overdue rent. WTFFFF he wasn't struggling, he had the money but didn't do what he needed to as an adult. But he sure as hell made sure the WIFI was paid over his rent. He knew exactly what he was doing if he can remember to pay a wifi bill.

Riley: Lowkey, OPs the AH. If he has not directly gone to him & said 'hey buddy, you need to pay' or asked him or reminded him earlier...
Sorry Riley but absolutely not. OP stated he talked with him about this previously AND it's not on OP to constantly remind him to PAY HIS RENT! OP is not this dudes dad. It's not his responsibility. I don't need someone to remind me to pay my phone bill every month. My dad & I share a storage unit & spilt the cost, I don't need to remind him every month to pay. Dude hands me $35 toward his portion a week before its due & I put it in my account to pay. OP isn't the AH & Riley's reasoning is lame at best. You shouldn't have to constantly remind people of THEIR responsibilities. Period.

Okay for the first story. It could also be a big lawsuit for the homeowner if someone was to going swimming in the pool when nobody was there. If something was to happen the owner could be sued. That happend to a friend of my grandparents. They gave the neighbors the okay to swim in the pool while they were out of town. They were told only whole the parents of the kids were there watching. But later that week one of the boys and a few of his friends went alone. Two of the boys got into an argument and one got a broken leg from that fight. Not sure if the full story but the parents of the young boy, I say young as in the summer after 8th going into 9th, sued because there was no adult there to watch them and as the owner of the home gave them permission earlier to come over.

I’m a beachfront home owner in Florida. I’m not rich by any means. I inherited the property and it’s the only reason I can afford it. For the people cutting through or saying the residents should be able to: Absolutely not. If anyone gets injured on your property, you’re liable for the injury since they were on your property and there’s a chance of getting sued and losing everything. Also, with the massive windows and a bunch of strangers, I would be so wildly uncomfortable. They can use the public access and I’d be installing cameras and calling the police if I saw any trespassing. It’s not a rich person issue. It’s a safety, security, and insurance problem. If the friend isn’t concerned about strangers around the OP’s kids, I’d also ditch the friend and have a very serious talk with the sister.

Last story: OP is not the AH, the brother is! He is complaining she doesn't pay rent, but he is conveniently forgetting that TWO other people were under theor parent's roof because of him. Guess what buddy? Formula and diapers cost a lot of money. An extra adult mouth to feed also costs money. Not to mention electricity and internet usage, etc. gets pricier by the person. I think he is so lucky his parents love him so much that they allowed him, his girlfriend, and his baby to live there.

About the cupcake incident/story: I think the mom is a karen. If the child is at the age that he doesnt understand that he cant have everything due to allergy then you should watch him and teatch that there is foods that he cannot have. If he is like 6-8yo he should know better or start to understand the reasoning behind not having foods with peanuts in order to protect himself. What if some kid wants to trade or share food with him in school that has peanuts in them? What if he seems something that he would like in some other kids birthday party and doesnt know how or why to ask if there is peanuts in there?
This just feels like "since my kid cant have this i make sure nobody can".

First story, no pass through even, that’s your land your responsible if they trip and fall and hurt themselves they will sue you. If its law and therefore the county responsibility to provide insurance for the pass through and 109 percent no access to the pools etc, they can vandalize and also again liability. No strangers trespassing.

30:00 I feel that it should have been established before that if the roommate was late on his rent again he will be kicked off of the internet for a set amount of time.
It’s sad that you would have to be a “parent” to teach consequences to your grown roommate, but if it’s your home on the line do what you have to.
Also, being threatened to get kicked out? OP had the opportunity to say “You can try but who will the landlord want? The guy that doesn’t pay rent or me?”

Streamer story: Always make sure to clarify who is accountable and in what way.
Specify exactly what you expect and until when (even when you think it’s logical) Or ask them to give you an exact time line/ outline of what they are going to do.
For example: “I need you to pay your rent until Friday 4pm, or I will have to take some action. Can you manage this timeline?
Then the next time: I do not want to remind you of paying rent. Automize your payment, or I will have to take action the next time you are late.
This way you are VERY clear about expectation and consequences. Or if they tell you “I will do it to night!” Hold them to their own words. So even if you switch off the wifi , you’ll be able to say: I told you and you agreed.

That first story got me fumed. I can’t afford a beach house, I am not in that league but let’s say you worked hard all your life and finally you were able to buy yourself a beach home and the next thing you know strangers are walking through your property and using your pool. If you were given that information from the realestate agent would you have paid that set amount for that property? Probably not and probably no one would have bought that house. How unsettling have strangers walking onto your property. I don’t know if they have children or planning to but that would be another concern. What if they were a young family and the condo people think it’s acceptable that strangers are in their yard? It amazes me the entitlement. Maybe sell that strip of land to the condo and make it a Hefty price as it’s a pathway beside your home and it’s not some homeowners would want. I bet they wouldn’t want to part with their money. No rather other people pay for the land so they can use it.

In some cases, if you allow people access to a portion of your property for X number of years, and they can prove it, they can have an easement.
Kind of like how utility companies have an easement to access your property if needed to repair their poles, lines, etc., or how the first so many feet from the road is usually considered an easement because postal carriers, sidewalks, people just needing to be able to travel along the side of the road and get out of the road, etc.

In the last story, I think the brother was just narrowed in and focusing on the rent aspect, BUT his parents were covering for the baby and supplies and aiding him in child care for free. I GUARANTEE that the cost of childcare and financial support from his parents way out weighs the daughters cost of just living there rent wise. Also the son would also add another mouth to feed, use water, and use electricity whenever he had a girlfriend live there. So just based on adding the girlfriend into the household they need to pay rent for her to live there. This guy seems so entitled and most likely salty over more events than just the rent. Maybe he’s jealous that his sister also got to go to college, get a degree, and do all of the young adult things that he couldn’t do because he had a child at 18. Those were his choices that led him to his life and current happiness or lack there of.

Story2: OP said that the streamer friend said it would never happen again, so they HAVE talked about it. So the rommate knows it is an issue! If you do not remember, you can make your bankaccount pay the money auromatically every month. It is not rocketsience!
And if they loose the home, because of late rent, or have to pay a fee, what would the roommete do then?
If you have an apartment, you are responsible for paying you share. Whas it a bit extreme to cut off the internet? Maybe. But if you talked to that person often befire and they just say "whelp, it won't hapoen again", just for it to hapoen again. What would be the option? How would they understand? It seems like a non-issue tobthe roommate and he/her does not get the consequences that could have!
