During the first story, I really thought that the mother was getting into a car accident on purpose to build a history of poor driving habits when she eventually kills her son - and didn’t the passenger side get completely ruined…💀💀💀
Not only that, she hit the cement Median...Aren't most of those in the centre of the highways? Like I know you can have them on the side, but odd that you would fall asleep with steep drops on the right side.
OMG I GOT AN OKOP STORY TIME ABOUT MY AUNTS STEALING MY DADS LIFE INSURANCE! 😮 Sorry I got excited because I'm always thinking of I got anything worth sharing 😅
My grandma has policies on everyone multiple people in my family. She won’t tell the spouses bc she doesn’t want anyones spouse to try to hurt them. Some of my cousins are married with children and don’t know that my grandma has a policy for them. In her defense, when people die, she gives the family the money but doesn’t tell where it came from. Laws have changed so it’s harder for her to sneak and get insurance for the great grand babies-10 yrs and under.
It's been almost a decade, but I used to be an insurance salesman. If I'm remembering correctly, you can only take out a policy on someone where their death would cause damage to your quality of life - like a family member or a business partner or something like that. You can't just pick a guy on the street.
Sophia has to be exhausted from carrying so much weight on this show. Why did y’all keep this gem of a host from us for so long?! Sophia you’re my favorite, and you balance the show so well. She deserves more than being a second-thought +1 to Spotify event. I think she’s the key you guys needed to taking your show next level. APPRECIATE HER!
‘Situationships’ are always odd to me because it seems like the term is used most often when people are not on the same page with long term goals and both are hoping the other will just change their mind if they don’t talk about it for long enough. It’s perfectly fine to date casually, take things slow, or just be fwb - but whatever the case, get on the same page
You can get a life insurance policy on just about anyone. Your employer can take a life insurance policy out on you. They just have to have an insurable interest in that person's life. That can be from you supporting them in some way, you owe someone money, etc
My employer did this. Only just got a letter in the mail saying it would expire and my company sent me a letter saying it's a benefit of working there. But I never filled out any paperwork or put in who would be my beneficiary.... So...??? Who would get the money if I died? I'm not married or anything
@@umopepisdn. next of kin typically. If no beneficiary and no next of kin, then it goes to the government usually unless your employer set themselves as your beneficiary
I work in insurance. You can only take out a life insurance on someone that you can proof an “interest” on meaning you have to proof how their passing would effect you so usually can only take out a policy on family members or business partners.
OP didn't say she could easily see her MIL killing her husband. She said she could see her borrowing against the insurance policy, and then, EVENTUALLY, when he dies far off in the future, the policy will pay back whatever entity that gave MIL the loan.
It makes more sense for son to get a policy on his mom to cover final expenses, I told my kids feel free to take one out on me and dad I think it’s a smart thing to do for generational wealth
I don't think they have to agree. I have seen a hundred true life documentaries where it is revealed the perpetrator of a murder /attempted murder has taken out a 'secret' life insurance policy on the victim prior to the crime
No, you can't take out a life insurance policy on just anyone. You need to have an insurable interest in the other person's life, which is a valid financial reason that's recognized by the law where you live. For example, you might have an insurable interest if: You owe them money You went into business together You bought a home together They are a major breadwinner They are a non-working spouse who helps with household tasks They are a caregiver who helps you or someone else You risk losing your business without a key employee or partner
Back in the 90s when I was married Sears would send offers for life insurance in the mail. You just had to fill it out and send it in. The payments would come out of the Sears credit card every month, so unless you are looking very carefully you would not know it was there. I was in a bad marriage. He was a drug addict and had an expensive habit. I call Sears and told them this was a very bad idea and it could cause someone to be murdered for this policy since the person insured didn't need to agree or even know about the policy. The last in the phone was shocked by this and agreed it was a bad idea. I told her to put a note in my account that I Fishkill want life insurance and not to allow that charge if it was asked for. I doubt it would do much but I never got those mailed again. I doubt it changed the policy but at least I tried. We divorced a few years later. He was never able to get off drugs. He spent a lot of time in prison and died in August of 23.
You can also make someone else the beneficiary of your own life insurance, some cryogenic companies encourage this. So for example, when the person insured dies the company get the full amount, as long as its continued to be paid. Then they take the amount for the process, and keep the rest 'for you' for when you're 'brought back'. Great scheme for them. Big chain stores in the US also take out life insurance on some of their older employees, without them knowing. Then they get to keep the cash upon death, unbeknownst to the employees surviving family.
Depending where this is, and I assume its USA , I am in canada and generally we have similar requirements to get a policy on someone else. This mother can’t get a million doller policy without his consent as he is a adult, he would have to have a blood and urine test, the latest physical information from doctor etc to prove insurability which the mother can’t get just because she wants it. The son would have to submit to this. Also the insurance company would want to know how she would be bereft if her son died before her. As a senior maybe the son would want to add her as a beneficiary of his insurance to take care of her but usualy that’s a rider on his policy he owns. A parent can get insurance on a child who is dependent on them. For example you insure your kids even while pregnant depending on the company so if something happens even still born you can get burial costs but that’s not a million dollars. The company won’t issue huge policies without merit. If the mother found a shady company to sell her insurance it’s probably a scam that won’t pay out at death. To be honest a reputable company wants to know how much and why you need it. If the son went to insurance company and said ok I need to provide something for my mom, my wife, future kids pay the mortgage and the whole total to whatever he can apply showing the need. But HIS mother wanting a million dollar policy on him is a red flag in the business and if we see something like this as an agent we quietly red flag the app to the company so the company can carefully and quietly deny the policy. It was a safety training thing for us agents in how to spot undesirable possable criminal behavior and how to keep ourselves safe when sitting across from such people while doing business. Take the app and leave let the company handle it kind of thing. Also same for investments if it seems like a drug dealer trying to money laundering its take the app red flag it before submitting and notify the company so they can investigate report to police etc and refuse the transaction keeping us agents safe. You never know what a person will do if you accuse them right there hey I won’t write this app because I think your fixing to murder your own kid. They might pull out a gun and your done. I found it hilarious the mother told the son, don’t tell your wife you know how weird people get knowing you have a large insurance policy and she might try to hurt you to claim the money. Um,, if she isn’t the beneficiary she couldn’t get the money. Insurance policy beneficiary designation is iron clad. I have seen ex spouses get the money not the current spouse with the 5 kids broke etc because the deceased never updated their beneficiary from years ago. And if it’s irrevocable beneficiary not only can the bene not be changed,. you would have to possibly ask permission to cancel the policy. Depends on the situation and purpose of that policy and who benefits. But I digress. The only way to over turn a beneficiary on an insurance policy is, using this story example,.. if the mother had a large policy then is proven to murder the son (person insured) the insurance company could refuse to pay the mother,… but could redirect the money to the next viable closest kin aka the wife or child of the murdered person. That would require the insurance company going to court and I believe it has happened before where the company said we know we can’t avoid paying out,.. however we don’t have to pay the murder. I believe this has actually happened. The courts can redirect the beneficiary in that extenuating circumstance but it’s hard. Because this is a legal contract. It’s usually easier for a company to say we won’t pay because you opened the policy under false pretenses for the purpose of criminal benefit so open the policy then kill the person fairly soon after. The example I gave was I believe a policy that had been in force for a decade, paid in for a decade, multi million dollar pay out, then they turned evil and killed the insured for the money, the company and possibly other family member went to court to have beneficiary overturned and money released to others not to the murderer. But this is rare. I think the case I heard about the money was redirected to the deceased children. The mother was the evil murderer who tried to kill the kids too but one or 2 survived. A real f’d up case. That was a long time ago.
Also what mother is trying to do with the car insurance policy thing is also call an insurance fraud. If OP’s husband add his mother car on his policy and claim it has his car. If the insurance find out they would black list him and his insurance would go triple the price.
You cannot get an insurance policy on someone else without their signature. I looked into this for my boyfriend a few years ago and needed his signature, which not an issue for me btw. I was just inquiring about it.
My mother and step father have a life insurance policy on me (I have health issues) which was fine till I found out that they didn't take one out on ANY of my 7 brothers.
You usually have to go through a medical exam to know how to rate the person for life insurance. His mom can be the owner of the policy and pay it. She controls the policy. If you get married you and your partner should get life insurance but your spouse should be the owner and you should be the owner of their policy,, so if you get divorced they can continue to pay on the policy, incase anything happens to you.

I don’t think the MIL actually looked into it very much beyond reading about a “get rich quick” scheme idea somewhere
