Regarding the first story, how much you wanna bet that the mom left the cheating husband because she couldn't take it anymore and he really wanted to stay with her and keep cheating and he is insecure about her dumping him and moving on and being happy without him. Obviously there is something going on with his ego and that says a lot more about how he feels about himself then about how his ex wife feels about herself. He is projecting his lack of self-confidence onto his ex-wife who he obviously still has feelings for.

Yeah, it’s so hard to tell! Is the husband complaining about wife too much??? Or is it the SIL from the beginning? Or is it the 2 of them bonding over being bitchy to the wife? Neither husband or SIL were checking to make sure wife answered and understood what was going on.
I'm of the opinion that you don't owe anyone an invitation to your wedding. It's your celebration and why would you want cruel / rude / abusive people to ruin your memory of it?

Irish here 😂 St. Stephen’s day is more commonly referred to as Boxing Day. The day after Christmas. It generally is a day off for most retail staff etc because traditionally it would have been a day for the wealthy peoples maids, home staff, to get a day rewarded where they would receive a day off from chores and receive a gift. Similarly today MOST retail will get the day off as a reward for enduring the stressful Christmas shopping season. Peasants like myself will eat a second Christmas dinner and just chill. There’s also a lot of football (soccer) on TV those days. Most stores are closed now but bars seem to remain open so it’s not really fair, but it’s Ireland and we like a drink. It’s celebrated in the UK too. 😊

Bitter me here... I would invite the Dad and stepmom and also let the Mom know the 'fat old cow' comment. Then just towards the end of the dinner speeches, the bride and groom stand up to give the Mom speech and ask the Moms to stand up. When Eva stands up (and the narcissist probably will) the bride says "Eva, you can sit own, this doesn't concern you." Then give a beautiful speech. Later on, when the Dad decides Eva to his ex-wife, the mother says "Hi, Eva, you got the fat old cow's sloppy seconds..." and walk away. Oh, I have a stepmom and I love her, and I am a stepmom (actually I divorced the guy but she is still my daughter) and I love her and have a great relationship with her and my beautiful grandson.
Giant red flag on the husband in story 2 for even allowing his sister to speak like that to his wife. His responses were so casual it disgusted me as much as SILs texts tbh.

I f I talked to my SIL like that and made that huge of a deal about stuff, I wouldn’t be in my brothers life much. No way would that fly in my family. Story 1 is one of my pet peeves. Family pressuring you to maintain a relationship with a toxic person. I don't think that being a parent or sibling gives you a right to inflict drama or trauma on others. It took me years to purge the toxic family members from my life and the only way I was successful was also setting a very strong boundary with my other family members who kept telling me I had to have them in my life because "they're family". If this is the way family treats me, I'd rather be an orphan.

Irish person here- St Stephen's day is just an extension of Christmas day to us. Christmas day is generally spent with closest family and Stephen's day is when you meet everyone else. Meet close friends for drinks in the pub assuming you haven't been home in a while. Meet up with cousins etc.

You are celebrating the day after Christmas. Traditionally, it's when the poor people(the help) celebrate and exchange gifts because they needed to work on that holiday. Some countries still celebrate this as a holiday.

You explain, when you have the capacity, in this case, the fact that you had no information on any detail of this outing, played 2 complete rounds with everyone, was NOT angry that you’d lost a digital phone game to anyone and that that was something sister decided for everyone and that that’s not okay…that it’s not okay to behave in this way for any reason and if she’s so miserable that she needs to project onto OP, attempt to sabotage her relationship with your entire family then she can find another place to live. That she was not given grace through an open door and a roof over her head so that she can create undue stress and upset for the people that granted her this huge gift. And that caring about her nieces & nephews looks mirror opposite of what she’s doing. That this is about something she needs to deal with, come back with appropriate behavior and even if she did have an issue with something that occurred, she can learn how to approach situations with calmness, listening skills, curiosity in order to understand better & overall better confronting skills.
Being in a healthy relationship and in a heated argument means understanding there’s almost always something you could’ve done better too because you’re a human. It’s not placating, it’s leveling with your partner and viewing things from their perspective. Maybe you could’ve approached the situation nicer, maybe you could been more calm during the discussion, maybe you didn’t have to escalate things due to elevated emotions, etc.
Heated arguments between partners almost always have a place where both parties can accept responsibility for something they aren’t super proud of, that’s how heated arguments happen. Mature and healthy relationships recognize that unless it’s cheating, abuse, etc(which doesn’t happen in healthy relationships) both parties could almost always be a bit better next time and work on something for the future. Once again, it’s not placating it’s being self aware and reasonable.
OP was super tired and therefore distant which was misinterpreted by her SIL and hurt her feelings. It’s perfectly reasonable to apologize for being so distant, even if unintentional and recognize that maybe next time you should stay home if you’re that tired or make sure to lay out the plans better next time.
Stephen’s day is an Irish and UK thing (they call it Boxing Day there) and it’s a really big part of the Christmas season here. Back in the day there used to be a tradition called ‘the hunt’ where hunting hounds used to set out and catch a fox (for what reason I can’t remember but thank god the foxes live in peace now). For my family and many of my friends families over the 3 days of Xmas you might have a big family day, a friend day and a chill at home and do nothing day. I personally spend time with friends Xmas Eve, my extended family for most of Xmas day and then do nothing again until the 27th. I’ve just finished my 9th year in retail and every single year there’s a fight to see who gets it off and some people would rather work Xmas Eve just to have the 26th to themselves 🫶🏻

My Nana walked my mum down the aisle at her wedding. Frank left when my mum was 7, she's the oldest of 4 kids. So when she was getting married he wasn't in the picture. It was a little scandalous back in the day, but the church family helped Nana raise her 4 girls, so the priest allowed it and even did a special prayer for them. Idc about using Frank's name... he gave up being her dad when she was 7, and never was a "grand" anything to me. He passed like 20 years ago now and left my mum $100 (nothing to her other sisters) .

I use "pink flags" as observations that MAY be a problem in specific context. But I do not know if those conditions are present - so I'll have to wait to evaluate when I get more info.
For example, if they are not close to their immediate family? Is it because the family is terrible, are the mean to the family, or something else? That's a pink flag and either okay or red depending on the situation.

You seem to be unaware that some mothers can be super jealous of their son's relationship.
Sophia, instead of inventing a new flag color (pink for expressing proceed with caution), try using the the flag system they use in auto racing. Green means go, and red means stop, but there are a few more that would be fun for you to incorporate into your shows. The yellow flag means something happened so be cautious and go slowly until you get the green flag to resume racing. Black flag: you're disqualified so pull off the track and go home Blue flag with a diagonal red line: Called the courtesy flag, it means that you're pissing everyone off by being a roadblock, so get out of the way of faster drivers. White flag: one more lap until it's all over. Checkered flag: this doesn't mean you won if someone else was ahead of you, but the race is over.
I once heard there are red flags, green flags, and yellow flags. Yellow flags mean under construction or proceed with caution. If they are not fixed/ worked on they become red flags and that is when it is time to leave the relationship.

The dad had no intention of maintaining his relationship with OP. He sent a cryptic 👍 and never called her to explain that he wanted to go but had to manage Eva. But he did just enough to claim plausibly caring and wanting to be there and being able to blame the drama and blow up on everyone else.

I know it is unconventional but I walked myself down the aisle. I do not like the symbolism that your dad or family are giving you away. To me that moment was symbolizing that I, as an intendent adult woman, was choosing to go join my husband and create a new family together. My grandparents were all Irish Catholics who moved to England I their late twenties or early thirties. The day after Christmas is Boxing Day, I have never heard of St. Stephen's day, but at most a saints day is a holy day of obligation not a family gathering. More importantly to why I very much doubt they are Irish Catholic is the fact the dad had an affair and even marrying the affair partner would n9t make any of that acceptable. That can and does get you banned from communion and there are still people who refuse to interact socially with divorced people.
The dad is an absolute disgrace, selfish, cruel, entitled, arrogant, abusive, childish bullying AH. OP needs to go no contact with him and his new wife.
