So HBO's The Last of Us Season Two has been filming for several months now, and show runners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have let out some massive news in an interview with Deadline! They confirmed that not only will we be getting a Season Three, but also a Fourth...not to mention tons of new content. Let's dive into it!

I 100% would have assumed that season 2 would basically cover the 4 year gap with Ellie and Abby's flashbacks and end with Joel's death, then season 3 would start with Ellie reaching Seattle. That logically makes the most sense to me for a TV narrative. But it sounds like they've already been filming Ellie in Seattle, so I have no idea at what point in the story they're going to end season 2 at all.

Joel will probably be killed at the end of the first episode of season 2, it would be interesting to have season 2 be all the flashbacks but based on Ellie & Dina set photos that’s not the case.
That seems likely! Unless they give the characters more time together before the big event, and maybe use the original plot of Abby where they befriend Jackson, and then turn on them. Who knows!

Season 2 being all the flashback content would not be good. Chronology is not the same as plot relevance and resonance to the viewer. All those flashbacks occurred in the game exactly when they needed to.
They're filming Seattle day 1 currently. Plus, Lev and Yara aren't even cast yet as far as we know. We're most likely getting most of Ellie's side of things. Season 3 is probable Abby's side. 4 Could be flashbacks and California maybe?

I absolutely do not think they should or will split ellie and abby into different seasons that would be fucking stupid. a lot of people that haven’t played part 2 or people who have played it and hate abby would stop watching (especially because you can’t portray how fun abby’s gameplay is in a show lol). most people stuck around to play as abby to get back to ellie’s story. they will have to intertwine their stories if they’re smart. I’m very excited and nervous for how they will depict abby, I absolutely adore her and really hope her character and storyline is done justice

This is exactly the reason I hope season 3 isn’t just Abby, I loved her character but I understand some people would never forgive her for killing Joel, so giving her a whole season would put off so many viewers, look at what happened with Negan in TWD S7-11

I hope flashbacks are similar to the game, just add more. I feel like it impacts you more not knowing exactly what happened with Joel and Ellie until she has flashbakcs in Seattle. I can see some stuff before but only new content. The flashbacks during Seattle seem good and necessary for the plot. I like how it was told that way, either way the end better be the same because its so good and heart breaking.

they were seen filming the season in canada a few months ago and the scene they were filming showed dina and ellie riding a horse, which must be the chapter where they go to seattle for the first time, and that would imply that joel dies at the beginning of season 2

I think the first episode is gonna be the party with Ellie and Dinas kiss, Seths bigotry, Joels "help", Ellie telling Joel off, Ellie getting woken up by Jesse and all the stuff that happens leadin up to Joels death, as the game does it, so I think the party isn't gonna be a flashback like it is in the game but the first thing we see and ending the first episode of season two with Joels death, Abbys swing against his skull, cut to black, Ellies scream and then credits

They should tell the story of Joel between the 20 years after the outbreak to meeting ellie. Show how dark and cold Joel felt at times having to survive. Maybe even talk more about Tommy with the fireflies.

im honestly fine if they choose to tell the story in the same order that they did the game, but i feel like if they actually did it chronologically it would make it a lot more fitting for a show format. i wont be super upset if it doesnt happen, but i personally think theres so much more of the 4 years in jackson that we didnt see in the game and that would be perfect for the show if we got a season dedicated to it, now that it doesnt have to rely on gameplay to tell a story, we could get to see movie night scenes with joel and ellie, or her meeting Cat and Dina, and ultimately the falling out of joel and ellie, then when it ends, S3 and 4 will be Seattle and beyond, but i think S2 has a lot of potential if they slow down this bigass story to focus on the jackson section for now

Rlly cool news. My only concern is about the flashbacks. I think the fact u can see them while u,r playing the diff days in seattle give u,r a pov of ellie´s path way more interesting, i hope we can see more scenes from bouth besides the ones we alredy know, but they should keep the order of the curretly flashbacks.

I think (and honestly very much hope) that season two is about the entirety of the story leading up to Joels death. What life is like in Jackson, the reason why Ellie isnt speaking to Joel, Ellies attempt to rekindle that connection, the friendship/relationship/bond between Ellie and Dina and the rest of the town then ending the season at the lodge with Abby and the gang in the final episode. It would honestly be so shitty and stupid if they did the whole 4 years skip within one episode, Druckmann and Craig need to (in my opinion) flesh out this story.
What I think would be a KILLER season finale is having Abby simply being there at the lodge and killing Joel. No talking to Ellie. No talking to her group, but her group talking to Abby and about Ellie. Then the season ends by having Owen say to Abby "You're done!" then walks away. And the final shot is zoomed in on Abby's face, we see the anger, disgust, and sadness about not being able to go longer, then after a few seconds of that, (still zoomed in on Abby's face) she delivers the final blow with the golf club, and it just swaps to black with us hearing her grunt of swinging the club, Ellie crying out for Joel, and possibly the screen being splattered with blood(I'm not sure if that'd be making it too much). Then we open season 3 with exactly this scene. But instead of swapping to black after Abby swings, we swap to Ellie after Abby has started her swing
My main gripe w/ TLOU part 2 is i feel they told Abby's story OUT OF ORDER. Idk if anyone else feels that way, but if they told Abby's story in a different order I think they would've gotten the affect with Abby that they were looking for rather than having us hate her the entire game and dread playing as her. If, and i mean HUGE IF, they want us to like her in the show then they need to show Abby's story in order. What you do is you start S2 with Ellie and Joel arriving at Jackson from the hospital, you show us what its like for them to settle in, you introduce us to some of the characters, then you switch to Abby's point of view. Show us life of her and her father before *SPOILER! SPOILER SPOILER* joel kills her father. Get us to like young Abby because then that'll have us feel extreme sympathy for her. End episode 1 with the aftermath of Joels rampage at the hospital. Don't hint to us that Abby wants to kill whoever did this, just show us young Abby crying at the sight of her dead father. Then periodically throughout the season show us parts of Abby's life alongside what life is like for Joel and Ellie. Then in the season finale, they need to do a few things to make it a spectacular season finale.
The first and MAJOR thing is DONT rush this season finale. Dont do what you did with S1 and just rush the most important part of the entire season. Secondly, I think they need to have Joel and Tommy already be out on patrol. Show us Ellie and Dina leaving to relieve them from their patrol, but then have the storm pickup and the two seeking shelter. Then swap back to Joel and Tommy or Abby, doesnt necessarily matter. What does matter is when they all find each other and head back to the lodge. Let the interaction pad out a bit so we can see the storm dying down, then before swapping us back to Ellie and Dina when Jessie shows up and says theyve been missing, have Joel and Tommy announce who they are, that'll leave us in suspense as to whats going to happen (well. Those of us who dont know what happens next). Then after some time of Ellie and Dina looking for Joel and Tommy, we swap back to the lodge where Joel gets shot, Tommy gets beaten down, and we see Abby begin her maniacal and systematic deconstruction of Joel. Swap back to Ellie finding the lodge, going into the room, then what i said in the comment above about this scene would remain the same.

I think that they will continue the story beyond the part 2 of the game and tell the story they want without doing a game and all the work that involve a new game and win money with the series
I think they will spend the first episode of season 2 showing everything that happened between the ending of the first game to when Joel dies, mostly focusing on their fall out. I then think for the rest of season 2 they will cut backwards and forwards between Ellie and Abby. Same with season 3. I then think they will conclude everything in season 4

What I think they should with the multiple seasons is Season 2 and Season 3 will tell Abby's story and Ellie's story before the events of TLOU 2 take place separately, Abby's season will show her father dying, her joining the WLFs and show her with her friends and how much they mean to Abby. Then in Ellie's season it'll show her flashbacks and show how she originally dated Kat, how she met Dina and Jesse, and her finding out about the truth about what happened to the fireflies. Then season 4 will be when Joel dies and Ellie goes on her revenge arc and I feel more people (including myself) will actually sympathize with Ellie and Abby since we spent 2 whole seasons of their personal lives and will make the audience want to just have this whole thing to stop, which I think will deliver the message that the game was trying to tell about the cycle of revenge and forgiveness.
It could be interesting to do it that way. We will see!

You have to remember, there's a lot of people who watched the show that never played the game. Pedro Pascal was fresh off the Mandalorian when he did The Last of Us. A lot of people probably tuned in because he was in it. They are not going to kill Joel in the first episode.If they do that, viewership would drop by probably 40%. I believe They're going to flesh out the flashback sequences, we're going to gradually witness their falling out, and it'll all come to a climax at the dance during the last episode, Joel will wake up the next morning and be killed off. End of season. As for set photos of Ellie and Dina, that could be while they are out on patrols. You have to understand, this is a television show, not a video game. The show relies on viewership. You kill off your main character from season 1 in the first episode, you probably aren't doing a season 3.or I could be completely wrong and they kill him off in the first 5 minutes. Who really knows.

Pedro Pascal will still be a central part of the narrative and have a lot of screentime via flashbacks. The narrative structure of the story they are trying to tell, requires that he dies early on. The main themes of hate, anger, the circle of violence, all stem from that one event. I simply think they will have a lot more "room" to provide further context and background to Abby, per the lessons learned from the initial reception in Part 2 (which was a fantastic narrative, but didn't really ease you into the story)
@@hristobibovalso, Neil will never tell his stories to please his audience. He will tell the story he needs to tell regardless. He is not afraid of offending us, and I think that is a really refreshing take. Considering almost all other series now seems to be to afraid to make their own decisions. Everything now is just fan service. He would rather not tell his story than tell a different one. The way things happened in part 2 is the story. Just filling a season with flashbacks would not be telling a story. The whole story revolves around his death, so it needs to happen. And it needs to be brutal. It is essential that we feel what Ellie feels.

Part 2 made me feel things that no other videgame has ever made me feel before and I think that is down to Druckmans unique way of telling a story and not worrying about audience reaction. You cater to the audience too much, you can make things predictable.
I've thought out the same exact scenarios. I would actually love if they added in all those flashbacks going up to Joel & Ellie's falling out, their time spent in Jackson, the relationship Ellie had with Cat, seeing Dina & Jesse's relationship before Ellie & Dina got together... Basically everything she put in her journal I'd love to see on tv +more! The more TLOU content the better.
Also, I thought it'd be super cool if Neil & Craig had a mini series about all of the notes you find along the way in TLOU. Like 15-20 min content of a story to those notes as a "spin off" in a way. I don't think it'll get too much traction, but I would love to see it.

Altogether it's going to be interesting what direction they end up taking this. I honestly have no idea. The one thing i will say though is that its going to be much longer before we potentially get a part III game. I'm genuinely think its going to be closer to 2030. There hasn't been any announcements that they are in preproduction of any kind. Keep in mind they started talking about part II in 2016. Game didn't come out till 2020. Since the release of TLOU II they have fixed the crunch culture within naughty dog so its going to be an even longer process for them to make games.
I think Part 3 will be shorter than Part 2 was, making the development time less intense. They also have a much bigger staff. Too bad Factions 2 wasted so much of their time!
@@pixel8ted If they do end up making it shorter game I can see it being done sooner. It all depends on the scope. that and also if its going to be their main focus, Cause from what has been discussed, it sounds like they are working on multiple projects. They may have gained a larger number employees but if they are working on a more than two projects I think things are going to really stretch out the team.
I was actually okay with them dropping Factions 2. This gives them more time to focus on what they are good at and well know for, and that is heavily Story based single player games. I know a lot of people disagree with me on this statement and that is fine but I do think it was best. I'm glad Jim Ryan stepped down from Sony, because the focus on Sony really pushing for Live Service games from Naughty Dog as well as other game companies was starting to distract those companies from they're main focuses.
I think part 2 will be be Introducing Dina, and Abby and her friends and revolve around their characters, but in un-chronological order, leading up to the same ending in season 1 than season 3 we flash forward to current time and will end in Joel's death and season 4 will be the final battle between Abbie and Ellie

I really hope season 2 continues with the fallout of the relationship between Joel and Ellie and it ends up with Joel's death, but the first episode (maybe)should introduce us to Abby, but not showing her too much, maybe just show her in a small sequence crying(not knowing why she's crying). For Season 3 and 4 I would do back and forth from Ellie's journey to Abby's journeys throughout those 3 days in Seattle(one/two ep. of Ellie, one/two ep. of Abby). I'm not against it and it's not necessarily bad, but if they'll separate Ellie's journey and Abby's journey throughout those 3 days in Seattle in seasons 3 and 4, some viewers might get angry about it, just like how some players got angry playing as Abby(i was one of them in the beggining a bit).

At first this was a bit weird for me but I now understand that they are making more seasons to wait and give time for Part 3. The worst case scenario is they make Part 2 into one season and make stuff up for Season 3 but luckily that’s not the case. I think season 2 will be Ellie and Abby’s flashbacks the prologue and maybe both of their day 1.

More episodes make sense as Part2 is a massive ( but also in some aspects too long and confusingly structured) game. Also I thought that season 1 got rushed in many aspects and didnt really have time to show everthing they wanted, many parts got shortened or left out.

I think at least for season 2, they're going to have to come up with new storylines. Maybe fleshing out Ellie and Dina's early relationship, some new threat to Jackson, etc. As well as the flashbacks with Joel that were in the game. Then use seasons 3 and 4 to deal with the main story of TLOU2.

A third game has not been announced. People have been running with a statement that Druckmann said in the documentary where he said he has a story IDEA. He even said he doesn't know what form that story would take. Your take is wildly hyperbolic and misleading.
I’ll be keen for how you said going through the flashbacks and following the chronological order. The worst part about part 2 was the whiplash inducing pacing so hopefully they don’t follow the story like that

The problem with Joel's death coming at the end of the first season of TLOU2 is what has been "leaked" of what they have been filming. When production began there were some pictures that were of Jackson but everything since then has been filming Ellie and Deena in Seattle. If the bulk of what they have shot has been Seattle footage then the inciting incident of Joel's death which sends the story into Seattle would have to come early in the season just like it came early in the game. This could mean that the first episode covers Joel and Ellies life in Jackson after the hospital massacre and their eventual falling out 5 years later. Then it would be likely that Joel's death comes in episode 2 or perhaps 3. It would seem to be problematic to delay it longer than that because the storytelling would suffer from the inevitable, "when's it going to happen" obsession that gamers who know the story would be focusing on. I really hope there are people who saw the show never having played the games and who avoid knowing anything about the story that gamers know. It would be great if they could experience the show just like people playing Part 2 for the first time.
The biggest problem to me is how to transfer the feeling of playing as Abby to a non-playing experience. It was very visceral to be forced to become someone you naturally hate even if you understand why she did what she did. She had as much reason to revenge the death of her father as Ellie does for Joel. Neither owns the moral high ground over the other in this. But making you take part in Abby's journey, especially her relationship with Lev forces you to really confront the utter uselessness of violence and revenge. How you bring what is enhanced by being an active experience to a passive experience of just viewing and not doing is what interests me themes. If there is a way to do this I trust that Craig and Neil will come up with it. After all the creation of the game in the first place was about overcoming these kind of problems in storytelling for video games, and we know how that turned out.

I'd love to see the details of Joel and Ellie's fallout. I think that would make Joel's death hit a little harder. I just hope they handle the timing of his death a little better in the show.

I am really hoping that they don’t end season 2 with Joel’s death. It needs to be instant and shocking to maximize hate for Abby. They also can’t split the season into two with one as Ellie and one as Abby. Let’s put it this way, if part 2 was two games and the 2nd part was Abby, due to all the advertising of the whole game based around Abby, the amount of people buying and playing the game would’ve reduced a lot. When people see that season 3 is all just the character they’ve been hating, no one will watch it. Kinda like films that are split into multiple parts but the opposite, I think the tough but best way is just to make one longer season. About 14 episodes. Obviously they won’t cause money or something but it would definitely end up the best. The bigger the gaps between the episodes, the worse.

The story for part 2 is a mess to begin with so I have no idea what they plan to do all I know is that if they kill Joel off at the wrong point in the wrong way the viewership will drop especially if they do it the way the game did
@@pieck5460 People who watch films and shows are used to part 2’s type of storytelling so they understand that characters aren’t real people, unlike gamers. In film and shows the only people who use the phrase “kill off” in a bad way are marvel fans or something like that. In every other type of film or show people understand that killing a character off is for the sake of the plot and the story. I doubt people will get as upset from Joel’s death in the show.
Abby doesn’t deserve the hate. She was more justified for her actions than Joel and Ellie. Joel denied saving humanity out of selfishness and murdered a whole bunch of good and innocent people in the process, including the one person who could have synthesized a cure. Abby sought her revenge for all the wrong Joel did. After I played the second game, Joel and Ellie definitely come out as the villains of the story. Both sides did wrong, but Abby is so much more justified than anyone.

I just can’t imagine how they will bring the feeling of part 2 over to a tv show because for me this story only works as a game where you first want everything that ellie wants, and after playing with abby you don’t want what ellie wants.

My biggest issue with the second game is all the filler combat sections. Hopefully the show cuts a lot of that and focuses more on the story bits. But I suppose splitting it over two seasons is fine. It’s just going to be very frustrating for the audience to not have a resolution at the end of season 2.

I don't think they're telling the story chronologically because based on set photos, we get at least to Ellie in seattle and we're probably even seeing Isaac this season because they casted Jeffery Wright and they even shot scenes with him.
I bet we will get almost all of Joel and Ellie's fallout in flashbacks this season and that we get trough a good part of Ellie's seattle days as you said, and Joel's death takes place at the end of the very long first episode, as it should. But still i have no idea how much it will feature Abby and friends, and how the hell we're gonna see Isaac if we don't cover Abby's perspective at all.
I should just stop trying to predict and wait now.

Idk but everytime I look at TLOU HBO news I get scared cause I’m worried on how they are gonna handle season 2. Season 2 is definitely not going to be just Joel and Ellie sitting in Jackson having a falling out. Not to give away spoilers, but some of the set photos are already showing Ellie in Seattle.
My guess is that the first episode will end with Joel's death!

I really hope that we could of had a add for the second game where we see their journey's to Santa Barbara and everything that Ellie and Abby and Lev fully faced, including Abby and Levs journey with the rattlers and how they plotted their uprising and potential escape and how they failed and ended up on the pillars with Ellie finding them and either that be part of a add on or could they put it in the tv series to show what we missed in the game but i think that would of been a awesome add on dlc, in a way that they did left behind in the first game, please naughty dog make the add on 😂

If they are gonna stretch part2 into multiple seasons, then i would like to see them change up how Abby catches Joel as I thought it was way to convenient that Joel falls into her lap by pure coincidence. What would Abby do if she was forced to infiltrate Jackson and if she had to kill others to get to Joel, you'll have a lot more people wanting revenge rather then just Ellie & Dina, in turn it would start a war with WLF which would mirror what happened between WLF & seraphites. The cycle of violence starts again.

I think it makes sense to tell the story chronologically and have Joel die at the end of season 2. Season 3 should be back and forth with Abby and Ellie and continue into Season 4. All this talk has me thinking about seeing the rat king on screen though. Can’t wait for that day.

As for Season 2 of the show, I'd like to see more scenes with Joel and Ellie before Joel is beaten to a pulp. Maybe they'll also show Ellie's ex, who gave her the tattoo. As for the "new storylines", it'll be interesting to see a few twists and turns that weren't in the games.

Ngl this feels like a deliberate attempt to stretch out the amount of time for development of Part 3 before all of Part 2 is told.
I’m glad they’re trying to avoid the show catching up but 3 seasons to tell the story of Part 2 seems slightly excessive. I thought they might’ve done 2 seasons with Part 1 but they didn’t so this just feels like Naughty Dog giving themselves room to breathe.
Especially considering they’ve eliminated crunch and don’t intend to make very lengthy games anymore. I’m not mad I just think they’re not being honest. Also just to clarify I LOVE Part 2. It’s not that I don’t want more content I just believe they’re playing it safe but not telling us.
Totally possible, but at times season one felt rushed. It was one of my only complaints about season one, I wish there were a few more episodes. Part 2 is far bigger, and they've already said they're going to do more new stories, so I'm glad they're giving it room to breathe, even if it may be for other reasons!

Honestly, I love the "irritating" and non-chronogical structure of the second game. I love the fact that Ellie and Joel are in cold since a lot of time before his death. That's totally logical with the end of the famous Joel's choice and made the Ellie character and the players/spectators more empathic and sad about the death of Joel (because we want to fix the relationship between them in the 2nd game but he die). It's so sad and enraging when someone you know is alive, but you are in cold and then life takes his life, and you CANT just make the things better. You've got regrets, you have anger against yourselfs and against the world and other people. Ellie puts her hate over Abby. It explains more esay the fact that she want to kill her. Because Abby definitely kills the relation between Joel and Ellie.
(It's intresting because, Abby lost her father and they were closed - and Ellie lost her 'father" and they're not close at this moment = The stroy really tell the two version of this tragic moments).
It's a great dive into grief!
I remember some years ago posting a comment that I really wish Season 2 would just be the flashbacks from Part 2. Telling the story in chronological order makes sense right? Plus, Bella can age up a bit.... This one guy absolutely layed into me bro. Literally like 15 replies to my one comment about how this is why I'm not a writer and those Flashbacks carry the emotions of the game beacuse of their placement and just yadda yadda bro. Nice to hear someone else finally say this is a good idea and may actually be happening even

I think we already knew they were going to make part 2 at least 2 maybe 3 seasons. I guess they just officially confirmed it. Nothing ground breaking
A good idea is to have Abby and her Friends being hunted by a certain someone and a sniper not seeing them at all getting to know Abby as we watch with cuts to Joel and Ellie's 4 year gap with the viewer unaware these are being set at different times until the end of season 2 reveal that you find out its Ellie and Tommy hunting them with the viewer wondering why.
Season 3 starts as the game would as normal cutting to Abbys part you would like her after spending a lot of time seeing her in season 2.
Doing Abbys 3 days in seattle first would make more sense to make Abby more appealing to audiences.
