This is what I loved about Halo Skulls. They functioned similar to easter eggs, tucked away in the corners of the maps, but also functioned as gameplay modifiers. I wish ANY dev would do something similar, maybe the weird bones of a giant creature or something that can unlock cheats/modfiers, and if you find them all you unlock some secret fight or optional boss.

I think the Futurama Golden egg should’ve been up here. Took 17 years for an entire community of gamers to try every random thing they could think of just to activate it. Only Easter egg I’d actively check in on from time to time to see if the community was any closer and cheers 🍻 they figured it!

To be fair, unless you're a boomer or a Gen Xer, you probably won't get the Uncle Sam reference. There have been references made to the Uncle Sam poster in recent media, but newer gen ppl will assume that reference is actually the original. Not a reference. A good example of what I'm talking about can be found in the recent "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off" series. There is a scene where Roxy sings a tune that many Millennials ID'ed as being "Hamster Dance". However, if a Gen Xer or boomer saw that scene, they identified the song as Disney's Robin Hood's "Whistle Top". What Millennials and Gen Zers know as "Hamster Dance" is just a sped up version of a 1970's Disney song.

The tribute to the devs family is one of my favorite types. In Apex legends the second map (World's Edge I believe) There used to be a tribute to one of the devs dogs who passed away during the making of the map. I loved finding that, and died multiple times spending time with the puppers.

Come to think of it… this was probably the first Easter egg I ever encountered! I didn’t understand the purpose of it, but thought it was cool nonetheless.
My favorite Easter Egg that had practical purposes - the original Star Wars Rogue Squadron on N64 & the hidden Naboo Starfighter. Phantom Menace released in theaters 6 months after the game was already out, and maybe a couple months after that, it was discovered they hid away a secret Naboo Starfighter in the game that you could actually pilot! I don't remember exactly how long after release it was discovered, but it was a big deal back in that era's internet, and it was so cool to find new content tucked away in a game you already owned!

I feel like I discovered the cordyceps ant on accident when the game first came out on PS3... but never really thought anything of it so never mentioned it/screenshotted it/etc... (I think it was cause I went to bedroom, went downstairs, ended up triggering something like cutscene was like "ah shoot I don't think I saw everything yet" and quit out and reloaded... and then yeah... lol)
If I'm not mistaken, It's actually a bug rather than an easter egg. The devs aren't fully sure if it was intended, but the ant is apparently a default image from the game engine.

While this glitch appeared to have been found many, many years ago, I'm the person who made it mainstream knowledge back in 2020, I'm the person Anthony Caliber gives credit to in his video. That being said, you're wrong. This is in fact, a glitch. This blew up once I mentioned it in 2020. Yes, it it's obviously a cordyceps ant, directly related to the game, that doesn't make it an easter egg though. The ant was simply used as a placeholder image for the news broadcasting lady, however, doing the actions you see in the video, the placeholder image appears instead of what's actually supposed to appear.
In GTA5 the phone number that causes an explosion in the sky actually also turned Michael's and Franklyn's phone home screens background to turn black. For some reason it doesnt work for Trevor. But for Michael and Franklyn, it makes their phone background black (which actually looks really cool).

In the original Japanese version of Project Zero 4 on Wii, if you pause and unpause the game enough times (the - button), there is a rare chance you'll get spooked by a pale mask/face for a brief second. It's so rare you can go multiple playthroughs without seeing it unless you deliberately pause and unpause for severeal minutes just to trigger the effect.
I see the Saints Row IV developers easter egg in the intro. AFAIK the door you have to blow up to get it is the only door in the entire damn game that will actually break if you shoot it. There's also a developer's office in Saints Row 2 by the waterfront- it's on a second floor and there's no easy way to get there.
Saints Row will always hold a special place in my heart. The first game in particular will forever be elevated for me on a personal level. Volition games was based in Champaign, IL. I grew up around there and Saints Row 1 felt like a game set in my area. It wasn't exact by any means but some things you just recognize as, hey I know that hill. It isn't anything special but I have driven on the actual road it was based on. It was just a more whacky GTA clone at the time that was based on the area I lived in because honestly, who the fuck bases a game on a place that is surrounded by corn for nearly 30 miles in any direction?

A lot of Intellivision games contained Easter eggs, which mostly went unnoticed until people like myself started reverse engineering the code. One in particular was from the game Vectron, which has a very elaborate set of steps to perform. All the more difficult to pull off because the game is so hard. I posted the whole procedure on GameFAQs. There is also a gameplay video I posted on my channel where I happened to pull it off.
I swear to god I was 14 minutes into this video and still thought it was an Oddheader video. I was like "I like his more casual normal delivery, this is WAY more tolerable." Good work on the video.
The Last of us Easter egg I don’t think requires you to do all the malarkey. I think you just have to go back to that room after the explosion and news clip is over. That’s all I did to get it.
I refuse to believe that no one knew about the bearded man in Punch Out until 30 years later. That bearded guy nodding was how I always got by Bald Bull when I was younger, and that was over 20 years ago. I can't be the only one who noticed. Maybe it's just that no one "posted" about it online until recently, because it's an old game, that was somewhat irrelevant until the Wii reboot.

You mentioned Shin Akuma in Street Fighter Alpha 2, but there was also a way you could play as Akuma in Super Street Fighter II (in the arcade) by moving on certain fighters on the characters for 2 seconds select screen and then pressing a combination of buttons. Shoutout to Super Metroid, which sadly didn't make the list. At the start of the Draygon fight, 4 baby Draygons slowly fly across the screen in a weird pattern. Only just recently, over 25 years later I believe, did someone map out one of the baby Draygons to figure out that it was tracing the words, "Love Keiko." This is what I loved about Halo Skulls. They functioned similar to easter eggs, tucked away in the corners of the maps, but also functioned as gameplay modifiers. I wish ANY dev would do something similar, maybe the weird bones of a giant creature or something that can unlock cheats/modfiers, and if you find them all you unlock some secret fight or optional boss.
Doom eternal did it with the collectibles.

The tribute to the devs family is one of my favorite types. In Apex legends the second map (World's Edge I believe) There used to be a tribute to one of the devs dogs who passed away during the making of the map. I loved finding that, and died multiple times spending time with the puppers.

Phantom Menace released in theaters 6 months after the game was already out, and maybe a couple months after that, it was discovered they hid away a secret Naboo Starfighter in the game that you could actually pilot!

I feel like I discovered the cordyceps ant on accident when the game first came out on PS3... but never really thought anything of it so never mentioned it/screenshotted it/etc... (I think it was cause I went to bedroom, went downstairs, ended up triggering something like cutscene was like "ah shoot I don't think I saw everything yet" and quit out and reloaded... and then yeah... lol)
If I'm not mistaken, It's actually a bug rather than an easter egg. The devs aren't fully sure if it was intended, but the ant is apparently a default image from the game engine.

While this glitch appeared to have been found many, many years ago, I'm the person who made it mainstream knowledge back in 2020, I'm the person Anthony Caliber gives credit to in his video. That being said, you're wrong. This is in fact, a glitch. This blew up once I mentioned it in 2020. Yes, it it's obviously a cordyceps ant, directly related to the game, that doesn't make it an easter egg though. The ant was simply used as a placeholder image for the news broadcasting lady, however, doing the actions you see in the video, the placeholder image appears instead of what's actually supposed to appear.

I see the Saints Row IV developers easter egg in the intro. AFAIK the door you have to blow up to get it is the only door in the entire damn game that will actually break if you shoot it. There's also a developer's office in Saints Row 2 by the waterfront- it's on a second floor and there's no easy way to get there.
Saints Row will always hold a special place in my heart. The first game in particular will forever be elevated for me on a personal level. Volition games was based in Champaign, IL. I grew up around there and Saints Row 1 felt like a game set in my area. It wasn't exact by any means but some things you just recognize as, hey I know that hill. It isn't anything special but I have driven on the actual road it was based on. It was just a more whacky GTA clone at the time that was based on the area I lived in because honestly, who the fuck bases a game on a place that is surrounded by corn for nearly 30 miles in any direction?

A lot of Intellivision games contained Easter eggs, which mostly went unnoticed until people like myself started reverse engineering the code. One in particular was from the game Vectron, which has a very elaborate set of steps to perform. All the more difficult to pull off because the game is so hard. I posted the whole procedure on GameFAQs. There is also a gameplay video I posted on my channel where I happened to pull it off.
The GTA V one wasn't in the original release, it was added in the Xbox One/PS4 upgrade. The number also isn't random, it spells out EMP-DROP.
I swear to god I was 14 minutes into this video and still thought it was an Oddheader video. I was like "I like his more casual normal delivery, this is WAY more tolerable."

The Last of us Easter egg I don’t think requires you to do all the malarkey. I think you just have to go back to that room after the explosion and news clip is over. That’s all I did to get it.
I refuse to believe that no one knew about the bearded man in Punch Out until 30 years later. That bearded guy nodding was how I always got by Bald Bull when I was younger, and that was over 20 years ago. I can't be the only one who noticed. Maybe it's just that no one "posted" about it online until recently, because it's an old game, that was somewhat irrelevant until the Wii reboot.

You mentioned Shin Akuma in Street Fighter Alpha 2, but there was also a way you could play as Akuma in Super Street Fighter II (in the arcade) by moving on certain fighters on the characters for 2 seconds select screen and then pressing a combination of buttons. Used to use him all the time, and normally would have a crowd around me when I was playing.

Pretty sure the wave rage one was on game shark. The older ones as you said were probably just not documented, that was pre-youtube and even pre-reddit. So if anyone documented it it would be on game magezines or personally owned websites as that is even before myspace.
Shoutout to Super Metroid, which sadly didn't make the list. At the start of the Draygon fight, 4 baby Draygons slowly fly across the screen in a weird pattern. Only just recently, over 25 years later I believe, did someone map out one of the baby Draygons to figure out that it was tracing the words, "Love Keiko." Apparently one of the devs wanted to show their love to Keiko in the Draygon fight.
