1:32 the fact Joel forgot to buy the mix for the birthday cake is why he didn't get infected. I think the realization still hits him
And they didn’t eat the neighbors biscuits or cookies
@@friedcircuits1419 That too. Just imagine Joel survived out of luck
Explanation pls?
@@C.lj6037the virus started because it got into basic ingredients. Iirc, the show said flour and sugar were the main contaminants
@@C.lj6037 For Joels birthday before outbreak his daughter Sarah was going to make him pancakes for breakfast, but they were out of pancake mix so she made eggs instead which likely saved them from being infected. His daughter Sarah was later shot and killed Joel was meant to die with her as part of extermination process
It wasn't even a grave. The Army just herded them off the road, murdered them and left them there to rot away.
they might have burned the bodies afterwards to kill the fungus kinda like a cremation
@@joshispro345 If they had burned the bodies, those suitcases, packs and clothing remnants would have burned too, don't you think?
@@MarsFKA oh ur right i wonder why they didnt burn the bodies wouldnt it prevent the fungus from feeding off of the corpses
@@joshispro345 The cordyceps needed a live body - it was transmitted from a live host to a new live victim. Dead, uninfected humans were not viable hosts.
@@MarsFKA but in the show there was a dead infected guy on the wall with fungus growing all over him
I like that they actually talked about the logistics of how this outbreak happened. It definitely makes the world seem more lived in
I like how they took dialogue scenes from the game & expanded upon them to add more exposition & character traits not originally from the game.
Some of it was bits and pieces you can find around the game environment which you can explore but obviously can't do in the show
This was why this was one of the best VG adaptations. The attention to detail and respect to source material
The driving scene with his brother and daughter
Yep, that's how you do a good adaptation: be loyal to the brand, to the game, the story, but add just enough lore and small tidbits to make it interesting even to the biggest fans. Fallout and LoU showed how to do that.
The game already had great dialogue but man the tv show blew it out of the park with the writing. Ellie is so good.
In the first episode, they established that Joel forgot to buy pancake mix, refused the Adler's biscuits, Sarah didn't eat Mrs. Adler's cookies because they were oatmeal raisin, and Joel forgot to buy a birthday cake. So scary to see that if something did get into a basic ingredient like grain/flour how easily people could be exposed to it.
"Can it hurt me?"
Answer should have been "not physically"
I think that would have been a bit heavy handed. Just "no" sounds more natural, and the meaning is clear enough.
I feel like when the world is like this emotional "hurt" doesn't really matter when physical hurt is so abundant
Yea if this would be a marvel movie.
Joel doesnt take emotional well being into account very much anymore i dont think

yeah except it doesn't really apply does it? In TLOU, the pandemic started and was worldwide in days. Covid caused issues and supply shortages with just the threat of getting sick, imagine what would happen if a quarter of the planet suddenly couldn't work AND started eating their neighbors. Everything would shutdown, if the power goes then communication soon goes with it. Food distribution, transportation, and health all collapse too. Everything collapsed almost instantly, there was nothing to DO in response to it.
And its going to happen again. And again, we won't be ready.

Oh my god it just occurred to me that it’s probably painful for Joel to see a crashed plane since that’s what got Sarah hurt and if she hadn’t been then maybe she’d still be alive somehow

This must’ve been a reference to The Walking Dead bc it’s usually dead people who are the infected. If you die to blood loss, you’ll become a walker. If you’re slashed in your throat, you’ll become a walker.
This would not happen in one day across the country.
The transportation routes are not the same for every part of the country. And workers at factories where the flour is packed in small packages would be the first ones. Not the people who eat it.

You can see the moment where Joel realised he avoided being infected. Pancake mix…, excellent job pedro 👍
What this show, in my opinion got right, was how the virus spread, as did the game, just in a different pace and view of the world, since the show could show more angels on it
I'm also a little glad they didn't introduce spores into this. Spores, in real life, don't stay in one place. They move around, go wherever the wind takes them.
If spores are what causes infection, then only those wearing gas masks 24/7 would survive.

No? Ok.
In reality, I think most Soldiers would not do that. The Police might.
I think you would be surprised what people with no other options would do.
Being in the military in a situation like the Cordiceps outbreak means obeying orders is the only thing that keeps you apart of whatever civilization is left. Most people probably would.

I can't see her like Ellie of the videogame...Never. I think Cailee Spaeny would have been a better Ellie.
Those whole concept makes no sense when you just think for one second. Like even if the intial infection spread was huge becauase of people eating certain foods how was this not just a problem in urban areas. Because the gun ownership in the country is crazy. Like we have more guns than people in America and that’s just guns owned by private citizens so then you have the army the police etc…
Well, that why the show is consider a science fiction, but let say this happens in "real life" I can imagine that people who own guns aren't necessarily great at aiming and can fire right under pressure. These guys can run, not some slow ass "Walking Dead" zombies.
@@FinalWish92 wouldn't even be a case of aiming. If it went through grains initially, not only would urban areas be quickly overrun, military would be heavily compromised as well. Lol 12 bucks for a sandwich
People say he acts like Joel and this is the best adaptation but Joel never would've opened up to Ellie about pre-apocalypse this early into the game and Ellie would've been FAR more sarcastic and obnoxious about it.
This isn't really a great adaptation and they aren't really much like the source characters.

Honnestly I agree with the looks but I think she did a great job doing the character justice. Are there alternatives? Sure. But they kept to the source material, didn't inject political nonsense, didn't throw in BIPOC characters for some BS virtue signal and didn't rewrite an already good story. Aaand that's why we must roll back some globalization mechanism and make all countries around the world self sufficient for most (not all) of their food needs. We cannot afford a potential threath to spread so quickly around the globe.
They probably plan to clear the population this way already. Look at hawaii
not possible at all do to some regions are incapable of growing food for entire population.
It's near impossible for such a microbe to spread through just consumable items , there's a reason why organizations like the FDA exist and have strict rules to determine whether a product goes to market or not
There are a lot of things about cordyceps that the show and the game kind of gloss over. It's a fun premise but ultimately implausible.
Jumping from insects to mammals is extremely unlikely. We have an immune system, body heat, and a far, far, far more complex brain. Trying to infect a human brain with cordyceps would be like trying to plant crops on Mars.
Remember this is fiction. A fantasy. Fun to think about and immerse yourself in, but not a good reason to threaten the global supply and trade of food.
That has never been true why would you suddenly be able to make it true? No country was ever self sufficient.
