hey, i worked on this game ! That's super cool to see your analyse of the game, thanks.

@@JayJay_18_ They meant it's unused in that scene, but yeah, it's the model he uses when he has his hood on.
Yeah, like why tf is todd here? Wrong location, wrong character, nothing to even do with him.

The Bridge that’s labeled “Bridge” is supposed to be the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit. I’m guessing they couldn’t get the rights to the full name so they cut out the word “Ambassador”
And it's usually lit in neon...maybe they just didn't seem to like it in that red color?
@You take a sip from your Trusty Vault 13 canteen unfortunately the owners of the bridge are very possessive of the name and area. They tried to sue to stop a rival bridge from being built iirc. Or maybe it was a tunnel, but still.
You need "rights" to use the name of real life locations?
@@IPODsify to an extent. New York city is in a lot of video games and I'm pretty sure doesn't need rights, but a particular landmarks such as the bridge CAN be problematic.
Of the lets plays I've watched, it isn't very similar to Detroit and thought they just took a random city name. They did a similar thing with something to do with basketball not using the Pistons.
The level of detail in this game even outside the playable area is astonishing
I surely hope you wont get shot by a president or something

You should do a house tour and call it "Boundary Break: Shesez"
He could do it for his 1M special

*Jumps out of window* "so this is how it looks outside the house, there's really nothing special here"
"And this is how my neighbor's house looks like, as you can see everything is fully modeled inside, and you can see his phone has a fully animated texture, it looks like he's calling the police... Uh-oh"
Fourth Wall Break
The low-quality eyes are likely there for LOD. At a distance, the highly detailed eyes don't need to be rendered completely, so the mesh can just remove the high detail eyes. Since the low-quality texture eyes are there, the player can't tell that anything is amiss from a distance.
Now, for why there's high quality eyes under a mask (so you can never see those eyes in the first place), it's likely the masked character is just a variant of another character without a mask, and that the mask is just an add-on mesh.
Can't stop thinking about how a police officer with a mask is just a police officer without a mask, with a mask.

PFFFFT
OH MY GOD YES
I also find it interesting that when the lighting on the characters seems to just randomly change, it is because the lighting needs to be different every time the cinematic cuts to a different shot of said character. Which makes sense because the same thing happens in film except obviously the light technicians need to physically move the positions of the lights in between certain shots.
worked on the game and that's the most important detail to notice for me. We put lot of efforts on the lighting of the characters during cinematic. We have one lighting setup for each shot in our sequence editor. I take my hat off to our awesome lighting artists team, the game looks so good thanks to them.
@@anthonyqd293 thanks for developing one of my favourite games of all time :)
The same method was made in GTA V! If you were to remove the cutscene cameras, spotlights literally pop in and out of existence.

That removed bathroom scene makes me think David wanted to have the player help Carl with going to the bathroom, but the other people in charge were like "We are NOT making the player help Carl do his business! That's just dumb!"
If only they were around in previous games, to make David stop putting us in awkward moments like that.
Judging by the closet with books, I think they intended to make Markus change Carl's shirt. Or just wash his hair. Or give him a bath.
Lmao
We really didn't need to see Ellen Paige peeing in the snow, David. Or to see Madison put into like 5 different rapey situations.
Uhh yeah; considering that one of the two female main characters is a sex-worker and the other one almost gets raped every time she does something on her own in his first modern game, I think David may have had an opressed life... just a lil bit.

2:35 You gotta admire this guy's perseverance. He hasn't a weapon on this helicopter so he did the only sensical thing:
Ramming himself through his vehicle's floor and assuming the mediative A-Pose to get ready to use his rifle with his feet.
6:57 Looks that Carl is a huge fan of "The Holy Grenade". He apparently has every single issue ever printed.
14:57 You've managed to make my dream come true!! Their hugging is sooo wonderful. Thanks!
Seing Hank and Connor hug from a much closer distance made my day thank you ;)
Aww that's too bad this episode was so short there were so many other scenes I wanted to see boundary break
Connor does hug back! That was my main question from the beginning, and now we know :D
What if you just walked into a room one day and everyone was in an "A" pose.
The prophecy is true 😳
With their arms down on their sides and their legs spread apart? That's what an A pose would be. :O
And suddenly snap back to normal
This needs to be made into a challenge.
that would be hilarious
Okay texturing the individual pixels RGB stripes on a cabinet used for once scene is by far the most overkill thing I've ever seen.
I don't know, but they might have used a post-processing effect or an automated process to simulate individual RGB stripes, because I remember being able to see the stripes on other screens throughout the game (and I was impressed).
@@Yveldi There are very few conceivable reasons you'd ever need to be that close to a screen in any game, but I'd like to see that effect used more. On the sole principle that I think it's really neat.
Was hoping Bryan Dechart would be involved in this lol. Well, you can´t *always* get people who are involved in the games you are covering on these episodes

The Holy Anchovy Jar book is actually a reference to the french TV series Kaamelott, which is a comedy based on the Arthurian Legend.
In one episode the Knights of the Round Table debate about the exact nature of the Graal after one of them was told it was actually an incandescent stone, at some point Percival explains that if he was the guy that had to collect Jesus blood on the cross he would have used something practical to do so and so he concludes that the Holy Graal must be an Anchovy Jar.
I've been looking forward to this episode mostly just for the close up Hank/Connor hug and I wasn't disappointed
Ahhhhh! Its so weird. I live in Detroit and its weird how accurate this game is to the city. Like it not like how some games make condensed parodies of real places. They have one to one scale replication of places I've been and its uncanny. Like you would think all the future tech would really make it look different but it doesn't.
oh that bathroom is absolutely beautiful, I'm glad I got to see it on here! also secret zen garden Todd is the best thing lol. with his lil paint bag. he took the wrong bus and now doesn't know how to get back home smh
that coin into the ceiling tho
excellent trick, Connor.
14:50 Connors don't shake hands. Connors gotta hug
what i like most about this scene is, that Connor starts to smile, even though the player would never be able to see it :)
@@arschkopp That's because the game was motion-captured and Bryan, Connor's actor, apparently smiled when filming the scene. Hank is very important to Connor in that route so it doesn't surprise me. Thanks to mocap even if the camera angle doesn't allow for the player to see it the animation is still used in some scenes. I really wish the game had given us a closer shot so it was wonderful to finally see the hug properly!
@@arschkopp toller Name übrigens XD
I'm so happy to see the close up look when Hank and Connor hug at the end. My heart burns!
What I'm curious to know is what happens when the characters change outfits in a scene? Do they replace the geometry of the original model, or are there two different versions of the character showing the before and after? Also, we totally need a zoom out of the junkyard where Markus rebuilds himself after getting damaged. That place was awesomely creepy, but I'm willing to bet there are a few secrets just out of sight as well.
8:09 you had the perfect chance to say 'out of this world' :(
9:10 I think Todd is underneath the map because he actually does show up in that chapter at the police station if Kara doesn't send him across the river styx.
11:35 Modeler: *Opens file* "Whats this? Oh it seems to be some kind of bridge I guess? I better write it on the actual model so it's clearer for next time."
Thanks for the mostly spoiler-free episode! Something I love about your Boundary Break episodes is the fact that you avoid heavy spoilers :)
About Todd in the Zen Garden: I think he is there because he can optionally appear in the police station which is loaded afterwards. Funny to see nevertheless!
I love the detail the developers put into the game! Thank you very much for showing it :) And of course, thanks to Speclizer, I highly recommend to check out his videos, which feauture both free camera and model swaps :)

Ayyee nice vid. Shame we didn’t get to see Jericho though. That had some good scenes. And the scene where Markus is looking for Jericho. Also it would have been good to see the town in on the run and fugitives and I would have loved to see the chase scene in the birds nest with Connor and Rupert
Ah, I do love Papa Hank and Boy Connor hugging. I just love the Father-Son vibe they have
I have a lot of respect for the animators for not animating Hank's suicide attempt or Todd catching Alice.
Todd literally ate her
I disrespect them for that
Detroit Become Human is simply a masterpiece. I am in absolute awe at how much detail they put into every little thing..!
Finally somebody gave me that "birds and the bees" speech I've heard so much about.
I learned something today. I learned the word “A-pose.” I thought that was called a T-pose, too.
The t-pose is when the arms are straight out horizontally, parallel to the ground
A-pose is more common for models that have animation rigging
@@Feasco is correct! The T-pose is when the arms are completely horizontal as default, and the A-pose is when the arms are diagonal as default.
Thats Ruff Dog wow I’m learning a lot from these comments lol
It has something to do with the rigging as Gnome said. If they were t-posed, their shoulders would look stretched when the characters let their arms fall down.
In T-pose the arms are completely perpendicular to the the body, as if making the letter T. In A pose, they are at a 45 degree angle.
Game in concept is amazing
Visuals stunning
The branching syatem solid
Actual story is about as suble as someone hitting you with a sledgehammer with just as much tact and care.
i just wish the story was detective adventures with connor
that's all i wanted, a detective adventure where i play as robot
Each character has good stories, I just think the endings aren’t as good
David Cage games in a nutshell
Yeah, honestly, Kara and Markus have stories with very good starts but weak endings.
Connor's story is altogether pretty amazing though imo
Fun fact: David Cage once found a subtle, nuanced story with realistic dialogue in a well-paced, thought-provoking manner.
He drowned it in a storm drain and sent a recording to its family of its gruesome, lonely death.
8:35 You can see the pixels in any modern monitor or phone, just need some magnification. This is not exclusive of CRT TVs
If you pause at just the right moment at 7:41, there's a single frame of a creepy bathroom shower wall, scribbled with letters and numbers. I think I remember that this was part of the indoor environment that somehow popped in out of nowhere. It's been a long time since I've played this game.
Edit: This also happens a few more times soon after that timestamp.
super late but i believe those shots are from the cinematic that is playing while the camera is panning out. for whatever reason, this camera mod cuts back to the cutscene going on in that moment (this one is Connor discovering the scrawled writing on the bathroom wall). it happens at the start of the episode too, with the coin trick.
Despite the slight animation flaws in the last scene, seeing hank and connor hug with a zoomed in camera on both of them was so heartwarming. Shame you only see it so far away in the game.
Interesting that normal quarters are used in the future in which the game takes place because I was expecting that they would use a more advanced currency or a made up one altogether
The game takes place in 2038. I don't think 18 years is long enough to change currency given how long America has been using their current setup. If anything I'd expect them to just go digital which seems to be the norm with some exceptions like Connor's coin.
@@PromiseMeStars 2038 is in 18 years
@@Oscar97o You're right. I was tired when I wrote that and for some reason was counting up from 2000 and not 2020. I'll go edit my comment. Thanks for noticing I messed up my math :)
Doing coin tricks alone doesn't mean the coin needs to be in current use. The country could very well be on a new currency where quarters are deemed worthless, so having one would just be novelty. :)
@@VickyViolet True, but Kara can rob a convenience store and the register has cash in it. She can use that cash to buy a room at a motel. And yet Connor tries to pay at the Eden Club with a palm scan. So it seems like currency in 2038 America is much like it is today; a mix of cash and digital.

Finally! I've been waiting since 2 years for you to do this masterpiece
10:22 Those untextured Eyelids are not actually eyelids but tearlines. This technique is used to create more realism for eyes. Same technique is used for UE4 digital human showcase.
Edit: And those Low poly eyes are there, because they scanned faces of real people so after scan you will end up with high res model with eyes connected to that model. But because of that, you can’t animate them properly. So they created new separated model of the eyes but didn’t retextured underneath the eyes. So those low res eyes is scan leftover.
