This is why I like gr3 I don’t have to worry about what lens to bring, fits discretely in pocket, don’t take stuff to serious with it, I take a photo and move on
Amen. Having compact options where you don’t feel you’re compromising too much is very important to me. Even if you use larger lenses some or most of the time, there are times when you’re going to want to keep it light, small, and discrete.
This video 100% resonates with me. I am all about small lenses. I’d never want to walk around with a big lens over my shoulder, but would absolutely walk around with a stubby. My camera is the xh2s, and I’m fine with the slightly chunkier body as long as my 35 f2 is on it. I also have the 18-50 for when i NEED zoom, but other than that, it’s stubby life.
Cheers Eric, it’s Sean in Atlanta! I feel the same way that you do about lenses. I have a Nikon Z5 with the 24-200 lens and the 40mm. My 40 mm lives on my Z5. I was on ebay the other night, which is very dangerous for me, and I came across a camera company that is well known selling a brand-new OLYMPUS EM5 MIII brand-new for $700, or make an offer. I offered him $600 and it was accepted immediately! So now I have two cameras systems and I am awaiting the delivery of my Lumix 20 mm pancake lens that you spoke of. I love that focal length better than 35mm, or 50mm! I love the micro 4/3 camera universe and I’m happy to be back with it! Thanks for the video! Sean
That old e series Nikon 50mm pancake is actually quite good. Us Austrians always embrace the stubby life ( a stubby in Australia is a small bottle of beer)
Not sure, if you are giving the D Lux 8 a try :) But I have the same preference like you and gravitate towards smaller camera setups including the lens. That's why I was blown away, when I got my film Olympus OM1. Damn such a small compact setup compared to e.g. a Canon AE1 and the build quality is just beautiful!
Also all in on compact setups atm, Leica M240 and a ricoh gr3. If fuji ever bring out a x-e5 or x-pro4 or if omsystem bring out a new pen f I think that could be my autofocus option.
Feel the same. As mostly a hobbyist i feel like an asshole walking around with my L series zoom. Just got the sigma 18-50 on preorder and thatll be much more discreet and easy to walk around with.
When I was a teenager I would lig around my Minolta with three lens and two flashes. Sometimes I'll do that or just take one small camera. Just depends on my mood.
I get the stubby life, use my 23/35/50 f2 lenses in my X-T5 way more than anything else. I have used the newer 18 and 33 f1.4, and they are amazing but I gravitate towards those smaller f2 lenses. The smaller size makes me more likely to get the camera out.
My next "itch" is the new Voigtlander Color Scopar 18mm f2.8 x-mount. Too bad it's not sold here in Norway. Probably have to go the hard way and order it from Ebay. Anyone tried it yet?

Love this topic. Could not agree more. And with my Z8, a pancake lens makes it far more appealing to grab and go.

Yah me too. I’m fine with a chunkier body.
Agree, I love stubby lenses. My favorite combo is my a6700 and the 35mm 1.8 oss.
I hear this. All primes on my film cameras. 28, 35, 45 & 50. All compact. I do use the 27mm on my Fujis.
He sold everything for a Leica Q3
at least that's my bet lol.
Anyways, he'll have a full set of m43 gear maybe two more times this year.
You’re not too far off on both statements
If you like manual focus on the Fuji, try the Voigtlander Ultron 27mm f2 or 18mm f2.8!
I’ve wanted to try that lens
That Nikon 28 f/2.8 lives on my Z5. I just love the combo.
I’m so enjoying the pancake 26mm 2.8 on the Nikon zf. I sure hope they 35mm in that form factor in the making coming soon.
The 26 is money
Video is right up my alley. I do a lot of walking and can’t be bothered with anything too bulky.

Oh man, a cliff hanger! Can't wait! It reminds me of the "Who Shot JR?" cliff hanger when I was a kid, LOL!
It’s like an episode of Saved by the Bell where you have to wait until next week lol

Yah, totally agree. I like the cute little lenses. Also slightly wider works well for me.

Canon 6D mark 2 with 40mm f2.8 pancake for the win. Live View with touch focus & shutter is the dream team.
Hell yeah! Love my EM-5 III with 20mm 1.7.

Exact same here
I have the first version of the Fuji 27mm f2.8. I got a lot of good photos.
Very nice

My wife has embraced the stubby life for 13 years now
lol 😂
Pancake, waffle ( yes they can be round lol), cupcake lens
Q2 monochrom?
Lumix S9...I knew it
Leica Q3?
I have a solid guess but I won't give it away! :)
Let’s hear it
@@ericrjennings Leica Q Mono
@@ericrjennings Good guess! Looking forward to seeing the images you get. Leica Q2 has been on my wish list for awhile
Hasselblad?
Not quite that crazy
