    This is one of those classic sets that generally gets missed. Great integrated play features as you mention Jang. Everything works well together. It’s so aesthetically pleasing too, that tower with all the red bricks, and fairly realistic. I wish I had this!

    I always have that good old set from my childhood, somewhere in a box, and it's a real pleasure to see a review of it!!
    All those features were very cool and that shuttle was my first shuttle, so I love it more than every other space ship I have in all my LEGO collection :) !

    I actually got this set back in 1995 and loved it. The white pieces have now turned yellow (and I simply haven't had the time to put them through peroxide) and some of the stickers (the ones on the side of the shuttle) have been lost. But seeing this video made me want to reassemble the set :)

    I bet this reminds to the most of the viewers of that time when they were kids and their moms got them an old lego set like this one on some happy occasion, and they were putting it together in their bedroom making unbelievable scenarios in their mind... And today we find just a few pieces of that set and half of the main figure wondering how fast time fades away...

  • @tht1kd
    @tht1kd 6 лет назад +5

    BTW Jang, the shuttle cart is supposed to lock between the yellow brackets on the runway. You lock those into the insides of the yellow cylinders on the shuttle launchpad. The box / instructions always said lock the launchpad against the tower to drop the shuttle then pull it out and relock to launch. Glad you enjoy one of my favorite sets from my childhood. Still thankful to have this set from my childhood :)

      I owned this set too (still in the storage at my parents, albeit disassembled) and my first thought when I saw Jang moving the launch platform in the video was “he’s doing it wrong”. 😂 Such a great set and such vivid and fond memories from playing with it.

    One of my few bigger sets as a kid. Great seeing a review of it. You know, despite the 1995 builds (which let's face it, are blocky, undersized and a bit under-detailed in a lot of ways), this is probably the most fully featured space shuttle set Lego has ever produced and as a space nerd when I was a kid I -loved- being able to go through all those different steps. Really glad you did a video on this one!

    So interesting to see the older sets, especially since you have looked at so many of the newer shuttles over the years. I could see this in an air museum or part of an airshow on someone's City setup.

    Sets like this were a big part of my childhood. I also have another set in the “launch command” series that’s basically the same shuttle build that connects to the top of a blue airplane. Might have to pull out the rubbermaid container that houses the pieces from this set, and other sets that I had growing up, and put it together again.

    This review made me so happy. The way this set looks made me so happy. I just love how this entire scene works out and how much stuff you get besides the shuttle itself.
    I would even go so far as to say that I like this old shuttle set much more than the recent one.
    It just looks so child-friendly and play-friendly in general.
    The crane is so cool just seeing you play with it wakes up my inner child. :D
    I am of the opinion that a set this extensive, complete and fun would be perfectly acceptable even in today's Lego lineup. Sure, the orbitter is a couple studs narrower than is the norm, but I feel that is a minor thing, completely overshadowed by all the good stuff this set has to offer.

    16:20 Yes, people talk about old Lego sets being like that - and they are right. You have to consider that this set really not that old. When they mean 'old', they mean stuff from the 80s (30 years ago)and before that. 90s (20 years ago) were the time when Lego really started to boost their specialized parts inventory, and many of those sets are indeed almost as detailed and advanced as sets nowadays.

    Honestly, from a collector point of view, I really wish they still used stickers that spread across multiple pieces because you can just use a hobby knife to cut them between the pieces once you have them off, resulting in a pretty much seemless decal over multiple pieces while still being able to take them apart, but at the same time, I can definitely see why those people who don’t own hobby knives would be really annoyed by it
