하 下 means below (지 earth + 하 below + 철 iron = 지하철 subway) and it's the opposite of 상 上 (세상, 향상 - improvement) . the characters somewhat resemble this above/below connection, with the vertical line above or below the horizontal one !
as a people who learn chinese first then japanese, i feel that Hanja can boost my korean progress as i dont really need to process what that word means

Freeways have a higher speed limit than Highways and they cannot have traffic lights in them, whereas Highways have a slightly less speed limit and can have cross intersections along the way.
Yeah, 고 confuses me because, apparently it has more uses than this one? Like being the verb end before the verb end? Lol, I wish I could explain my issue better 😂🤣
As a Japanese speaker, I find these 한자 lessons extremely useful, as a lot of the words that both languages source their pronunciations from are nearly identical. In your first example, 최고 is 最高 (saikou), which is a word I'm sure a lot of people are familiar with, especially if they're anime watchers, heh. 최저 最低 (saitei) is slightly less common, but still familiar to native speakers. There can be an entire lesson on just 最 (most, extreme)! 최근 最近 (saikin) most recent, 처음 最初 (saisho) first (slightly different, instead of meaning "number oneth," the Japanese version means "earliest"), 최후 最後 (saigo) last, 최신 最新 (saishin) newest, 최종 最終 (saishuu) final, 최악 最悪 (saiaku) terrible (the same 악 as in 악마, which is 悪魔 akuma in Japanese). Really fascinating, Billy. Please keep these going!

When I learned Korean, we used 국민학교 for elementary school. I don't know when or why it was changed.
Changed in 1996 because the term 국민학교 was made in Japanese colonial era.

You would use 이다, not 있다, since you're saying something "is/am/are" and not "exists."
What would be between 고급레벨 and 초급레벨? 중급 레벨?

but 最低 in japanese carries a slightly different meaning from chinese and korean, you can use it to decribe a person
