We’ll celebrate tonight with some more X-Wing Alliance :)
This is the correct response.
Can’t wait
Sides with communists. Says hes on the right side of history. Div.
Never stop adjusting throttle is my biggest tip. Slide it back to ~1/3rd for every turn and slam it back up to 100% and then develop a technique from there.
There is a counter measure component that, if triggered when the missile is close enough, will rewire the missile to target its user.
I'm surprised you didn't mention that the TIE Bomber's call-sign was Titan-3, the PC call-sign we've seen in other trailers. So the trailer also shows how the slot opens up for the PC to join Titan Squad.
I didn’t notice that!
@@EcksToo Well I was rewatching the older trailers last night so that's how I remember that call-sign and that in one cutscene, Grey comments that the PC is their new wingman. So yeah, we're the new Titan-3.
Also more Squadrons entries have been added to the Star Wars Database, including Grey's.
Like how Red-5 gets picked off in _Rogue One_ to make way for Luke Skywalker!
Joseph Simpson damn that’s right! Awesome detail
Ironically, I thought he looked like the tie pilot in the gameplay trailer, welcoming you to titan squadron
I really like how those ties were flying in that formation, seems really under appreciated
I can't be the only one who thought of Squidward's "OH NO, HE'S HOT" at the slo-mo helmet removal.
Nice one.
To use a phrase from Red Letter Media: "I felt a human emotion watching something Star Wars made in 2020, what is happening?!"
This short feels like the ultimate evolution of the old SWTOR CGI trailers. The ammount of lore, character motivation and worldbuilding they managed to cramm into this without almost any dialogue is aweinspiring
To bad people like the clip bash trailer for mando more just because its mando and this is a niche game for a specific market.
something I like is how they show how durable the tie fighter really is
Nah that doesn’t translate into a tie fighters actual durability. Like the x-wing suddenly doesn’t have shields and they never regen. You may say he put all power into engines or weapons but no x-wing pilot does that during a dogfight
Which is funny in a video game considering that before the video games and tabletop RPGs, TIE fighters originally weren’t considered to be so flimsy compared to rebel fighters.
@@krankysfirebrand485 People give Xwings too much credit. It's an inferior ship. Shields have never been a huge advantage in the movies. They let you take 2 or 3 shots before your armor has to deal with the damage. They're slower and less manueverable than a standard TIE/in. The Rebels needed the Xwing for its lightspeed capability and heavy guns which could damage capital ships since they didn't have any capital fleet of their own.
Read up on the WWII American F4F vs the Japanese Zero. Same situation. The Zero was a better airplane but had no armor. The F4F had more armor, functioned as a fighter/bomber, and could take a beating but was less manueverable. The US lost a lot of good planes and pilots until the F6F came online. The only way to beat the Zero was by using better tactics which is quoted by a Naval F4F ace.
@Randall Sanchez
Look. I’m a huge ww2 plane nerd. And the comparison between the hellcat and zero is not accurate. Sure they could have been inspired by it but they didn’t know enough. The A6M2 was by far the superior craft, and it had just has much firepower (not including bombs and such).
I’m the series we here about how unshielded craft are sitting ducks. Especially capital ships. I mean episode 4 was REALLY old and they had limited effects and lore. So using rogue one as an example is better. We see blue leader take multiple shots from two angles from tie reapers and fighters before his shields are down. Another example is how the tie fighters outnumber the rebel fighters, yet the rebel fighters come out on top. Imperial pilots are more experienced, better trained and there’s more of them, yet the rebels hold their ground. It’s also stated how the TIE fighter is a swarm fighter. It’s only effective in large numbers, and that’s the only reason it can take out an x-wing. Another thing underestimated is the x-wings great maneuverability, but this is barely shown and is basically written down in lore. X-wings wipe the floor with tie fighters. The better example would be the A6M2 zero and the British Spitfire mk VIII (probably fielded by Australia.) Engagements between these two fighters were rare but I’m pretty convinced the zeros got rekt. The spitfire mk VIII was a lot rarer than the zero and it was more expensive, but it had good maneuverability (but not as good as the zeros) and good fire power and a sturdy airframe. The spitfire would do some energy maneuvers, maybe make the zero overshoot and fire one burst with its hispanos and obliterate it. Meanwhile the zero when on its tail would just be shooting it’s tiny peashooters until it runs out of ammo.
Don’t mind my grammar mistakes. I couldn’t bother to read through my essay XD
Literally just finished watching it, was incredible. Everything ive wanted to see from a tie pilot.
Just like the old school animated short "TIE Fighter" showing how good the imperials are.
9:14 "I love how he's repairing himself" I'm fairly certain he is not repairing himself there. He is watching his ship break down as the hit he took cascades into other parts of that wing. Something we see at the end of the short when it totally fails.
Agree, X-Wings and Y-Wings need astromech droids to do repairs on the fly, I don't think TIEs have any such capability. Definitely read it as the displays showing increasing damage cascading system failures, that Interceptor was falling apart around him even if the X-Wing couldn't finish him off.
Maybe he said “preparing himself”?
@@UGNAvalon Nope, repairing
Indeed; I think he was just estimating damage.
Agreed
3:25 one of the coolest details: as the tie fighters engage capital ships, smaller corvettes move in to screen against fighters.... really cool attention to detail
I almost choked when the destroyer jumped.
My disappointment was so much. I was rooting for him to make that docking bay!!
This is why we had the Advanced, Avenger and the Defender variants for the TIE line.
The only complaint I had is it didn't cut to the dude sitting in his squadmate's lap on the way back to the Star Destroyer because there was no other room in the cockpit.
They sent a TIE Reaper too, it'll be fine.
Disney Star Wars is fantastic when it comes to the side projects. Rogue One, The Mandalorian, Clone Wars, Rebels, Fallen Order, the Thrawn books, and now hopefully Squadrons come to mind. I really think the sandbox that they built works the best when they let a creative team have a corner of it and let them go to town.
Solo is the only exception
@@thecalmclone2813 I don't think so, that movie was pretty great too
@@rohanroshan117 I respect your opinion, but have to disagree.
Rebels was... not so great. Everything else is though is 100%
I would not call them side projects rather than passion projects:) it shows
This trailer was infinitely better than I was expecting. They really humanized they Empire. Super rich storytelling and world building here.
That short just says we need a pilot focused movie or something.
It’s good to see the imperials finally being shown. And not just the rebels. Reminds me of the clones.
I would love a pilot focused movie or TV show. The old X-Wing books were my favorite
Yes a TV series based on Micheal Stackpols books would be a dream
Top Gun with X-wings
@@_nebulousthoughts Hell yeah! Kriffing great...
I agree! The best we have is the alphabet squadron books or the old x wing ones
This got me excited for the campaign and seeing both sides of the games storyline. Anhaldt101 must be crying of joy for the imperials
The Tie Fighter game from 1994 did a great job of giving you a different POV in Star Wars, possible the only time it has really even been tried. As an Imperial the game presents you as someone maintaining order in the galaxy vs Rebel alliance and overly ambitious imperial usurpers. Even in how the missions briefings were carried out, very calm, professional. It made you feel like you were the good guy and then they put you under Thrawn for the end game.
Battlefront II did an excellent job showing the perspective of the Stormtroopers. And to specify I mean the real Battlefront II, not the EA disaster
Eck talk, me smile.
Charlie you do like a more handsome James Corden ( your more fun especially when your drunk)
Eck talk make me squawk
I've said it once, I'll say it again, it's nice to see ILM shine again after they were rushed to finish the Battle of Exogol
Whats lLM
@@EmileProductionsA239 Industrial Light and Magic, they've basically been the pioneer for visual effects since Star Wars, if I remember correctly they are the main CGI company for all the films
@@Lexie_Tyler05 Oh, thanks master kenobi!
This cg short showed the TIE Pilot Mihalying his TIE.
Yep, the key to survival is to take the hits in non-essential areas.
Trigger as well.
and now it's proven that tie fighters don't explode when they tap the slightest thing.
That moment when you have the same name as the main character :)
lmao i saw u post this on the official video too
This is the best thing since TIE Fighter. Squadrons is the game we've been waiting 26 years for.
the ISD turning under heavy fire is my favorite shot in this trailer
Was sat watching this with my three under 6 years olds... all of us... glued to it... 3 times we watched it 🤣
10:29 Interceptors have exclusive access to this missile hack countermeasure. Long cooldown, requires good timing.
My two favorite moments: when the Imperial says "another retreat", and when the rebel pilot is framed as the villain after destroying the Tie Bomber.
Mine's "The war's over, Imp!"
That hurt, even if it's a "villain" POV short. Must be due to my TIE Fighter game days.
Am I the only one who saw the paint job on the X-wing and immediately said "PARTISAN!!!". Also, F for the tie bomber.
No wonder that Rebel pilot hated that single TIE Interceptor.
I love how when in atmosphere you can see the ship actually shaking, just one of those awesome little details.
the gopro shot really sells this, you can actually see the wings wobbling
I know, it’s amazing how much detail they put into this.
Yeah so nice to see the burning up effect.
For the love of god, can we please have a Star Wars movie/show with these kind of CG graphics already, including with the ones used for the Old Republic trailers. I'm not the only one who wants to see an Star Wars film liked that right?
What really sold me on sympathizing with the Imperial character is how the fact that the X-Wing chases him as he's fleeing, despite no longer being an active threat, would (in modern warfare) be seen as a war crime. You can't go hunting down a fleeing combatant just because.... granted the X-Wing pilot paid for that choice as well.
Well, they’re not surrendering and they’re in an armed fighter so it’s wouldn’t be a war crime to shoot them down, I do agree though.
That would not be a war crime!
The TIE opened fire on him, so...
But the TIE attacked him so what?
Attacking a retreating enemy isn't a warcrime.
It was so good, I always hope Disney makes a movie with CGI because it looks so neat and you can do more stuff with CGI than with real people
@Chosen One Its still my dream to see a SWTOR CGI movie
@Chosen One oh I know well probably never get one. It's just a pipe dream.
We could do a traditionally animated show just like Clone Wars 2003.
I wish they make one for every character!
I just watched this and i remembered that i _just_ bought an Oculus Rift
You cant measure how hyped i am
I second this! Just got a Rift S myself and my excitement is immeasurable!
@@dragoncore7376 SW Squadrons is the reason WHY I bought an Oculus Rift. ;D
Honestly can't wait to try this. I love elite dangerous in vr but it takes forever to get anything done in that game. This'll hit that itch nicely.
i feel kinda bad for you pal, have you not heard what facebook are pushing?
@@danielhardman234 i have, but its the cheapest VR headset on the market and it has built in cameras making moving from my room which can barely fit the required minimum area to my living room takes 5 minutes to move and set everything up
AND i got it before October, which means that i will have 2 years before i need to use Facebook
The trailer was so much more than I expected, so awesome! It made me want more like how SWTOR, Overwatch, and R6 Siege do their occasional shorts. This has me so excited for the game!
Guys, this short just confirmed few things:
1.) SW fighters have ECM's that are powerful enough to jack long-range tracking missiles
2.) Speed is nice but tight manoeuvres with decent speed is better atmosphere or not
3.) Their sensors can track missiles from out of visual range
4.) The open sides of a TIE Interceptor solve the peripheral view problem
5.) A TIE just survived reentry without shields which means they're tougher then we thought.
In conclusion: EA made the TIE fighter/interceptor cool. I'll repeat: GREEDY EA MADE THE TIE COOL.
Let that sink in. Also, F-14 stealth fighter jets can SUCK IT!
The TIEs have shields now: not all of them, but elites at least would get an upgraded version.
The shots of the wreckage falling to the surface gave me the same heartbreaking feeling and awe from the Clone Wars' final episode
Two new preorder skins for the fighters in this trailer as well. The X-Wing looks sweet, the Interceptor I guess is battle damaged?
So close to 100k subs now?!?!?!!!!! Also the short is one of the best I've seen for a long time. The way they encorperated the squadrens cockpit was very cool.
Maybe next week! 🤞
EcksToo only 2k to go! Now
F
for the tie bomber
I really hope that after seeing this CG, that we either get at release, or after at some point, some in atmosphere battles
I hope this short is canon
It is
Canon doesn't really mean anything at this point. If it's good, it's good, why would it being canon matter?
SeerSmashChannel probably just wants this story telling to continue with Disney
If Disney okays it, then it's canon, unless they specifically state otherwise.
it indeed is.
About the music, I could definitely hear the imperial march reharmonized to sound more heroic. Love it.
I think it was a raider that was coming down in flames in that shot. This looks amazing!
Must be an eff you to SWBF2 by DICE.
Must be an eff you to SWBF2 by DICE.
On the subject of making imperials heroic I think it’s important to note it’s much as same people who join up today. Maybe they needed to join so they could get an education after a tour of duty, or it was the only real way off planet they could find on whatever backwater world they came from. Or they believed in the public side of what the Empire represented. It did help stabilize a war torn galaxy in the aftermath of the Clone Wars to the public eye. Or was simply a restructuring of the Republic they supported. Many supported Palpatine’s public rise to power. The death star was a highly classified project too, it wasn’t like the average soldier/pilot would have known about it.
Yo, that X-wing paint job is cool as hell. Adding it to the pre-order bonus is awesome.
It’s got me even more hype for squadrons
Me: *sees title*
Also me: “Yes.”
I want the Defender and B-Wing in this game later on too
Eck,
Superb video for a superb trailer. I completely missed the farms on Var-Shaa's surface. Great catch.
I wonder what the farmers thought about seeing a STAR DESTROYER crash land on their planet.
One more thing that fans on social media have pointed out. You never see the eyes of the X-Wing pilot, Hunter. It's a cool subversion that Hunter is the "evil" faceless mook while the TIE Pilot Grey is the hero with a sympathetic face.
Yeah great points there. The crash was awesome
This trailer gives a reason why the squads need. New pilots. For the imps you replace titan three and the new republic the guy who’s dies fighting “hunter”
loved it, really want them to do a republic trailer after how well they did this one
This Short will definitely make me go into Squadrons campaign with an already instilled respect for Varko Grey, can't wait to jump in on October 2nd.
I would also like to add, around the shots of the Overseer preparing to retreat, you can see features of an Imperial-I like you mentioned the ventral guns, but also the triple axial turrets and the dual turbolaser batteries as well. I personally feel that since this was made by ILM, they reused the Rogue One star destroyer asset (again) but just shifted the tractor beam targeting array 90 degrees (because that's what was done for the Imperial-II class) possibly to show the Overseer could have been an Imperial-I refit before it was upgraded after the Var-Shaa battle. This may have also been the reason why there was an Imperial-I star destroyer shown among the shipyard wreckage; they probably forgot to change the appearance.
Also, I like how we get an X-wing vs TIE interceptor cat-and-mouse skirmish in this cinematic, as I feel these two starfighters don't go toe-to-toe very often as portrayed. Plus, bonus barrel (aileron) roll by the interceptor for Charlie at 11:12 ;)
I absolutely love the tie interceptor. Kyle Katarn's quote about the fighter sums it up really well.
"Your generic TIE grunt is just plain suicidal. And the TIE Defender jockey is bloodthirsty. But the TIE Interceptor pilot, he's suicidal and bloodthirsty. When you see a squad of those maniacs flying your way, you'd better hope your hyperdrive is operational."
Such a beautiful trailer can’t wait to find out about the hunter from the new republic
Best game trailer/cinematic in recent memory. Some of the story beats might have been kind of expected if the protagonist was a Rebel/New Republic pilot, it's weird how it became so much more effective by humanizing the Imperial side and portraying the NR side as the frightening unstoppable force stalking the hero.
this is honestly the best thing to come from new Star Wars since Rogue one, absolutly incredible trailer!
it was great to see the perspective of the "bad guys" for a change, even they cared for their compatriots in cases.
Surprised that you didn't notice that the Overseer in this is an Imperial 1 destroyer from Rogue One just with a modified sense array on top of the bridge.
I'm always Rebel, but adore the TIE Interceptor from ROTJ. Now the fact this craft took such a beating and 1v1 an 'ace' just warms my heart from this CG short. I also got some Skyforge vibes from this.
To add to what you were saying about the maneuverability of the TIE Interceptor, this trailer does a great job showing you it's truly a different class of fighter with different ups and downs. If you were to compare them to cars, the TIE is like a stripped-down track-weapon of a car, the X-wing more like a muscle car.
As a huge X-Wing novels fan (the "real canon" novels by Mike Stackpole and Aaron Alston) and a big fan of the OG X-Wing and TIE Fighter games, I absolutely LOVED this short. However, there are a few things that got me screaming out of my head - ironically, also because of how well I remember details from the X-Wing novels. First, the X-wing novels repeatedly said that any TIE variant (save perhaps the TIE reaper and TIE striker, which at the time of their writing were still non-existent) was at a serious disadvantage in an atmospheric dogfight due to their non-aerodynamic design. So for Varko Grey to elect to fight in atmosphere flying a damaged TIE Interceptor against a fully-functioning X-Wing was probably a less-than-wise decision. The short seemingly did not choose to show this, since even when damaged and in atmosphere the Interceptor was still able out-maneuver the X-Wing. Second, it was also said in the novels (either Iron Fist or Isard's Revenge, I can't quite remember which one) that the TIE Interceptor had serious yaw issues in-atmosphere, so it is quite ironic that the maneuver Grey used to gain an advantage and shoot the astromech off the X-Wing was a yaw-drift.
But these are details that, while not really trivial IMHO, do not diminish the CG Short. It was fast-paced, it built tension, it made you care about the Imp and the atmosphere of a Star Wars starfighter battle (which is inspired by WWII aerial dogfights, as we know) is beautifully captured.
I just love how much that video made the Rebels the villians.
I would love it if they made this planet as an actual map for the games, gives more diversity in the environment.
Hype for Squadrons
if you think about it, it's also probably where we see why both squads need a replacement pilot: the Tie Bomber that was destroyed could've been Titan and the X-Wing agitator could've been from Vanguard. and with both pilots dead, that's where the two playable leads come in.
Great breakdown!
One detail that is often forgotten, but not in this, is the slight blue tint to the imperial fighters.
you can really see it well at 14:00
This is a Great cg trailer. Great video
That planet, with the mesas and the farms definitely reminded me of the SWTOR planet of Makeb.
The overseer is most certainly an Imperial I as well, but with the communications tower on the horizontal, you can tell from the command tower design
Something you didn't point out, or perhaps didn't notice, is that the Overseer fires up its starboard side auxiliary maneuvering engines to make an emergency hard turn to port in preparation for retreat. I thought that was a really cool feature they showed which we've never seen in Star Wars up till now.
That VERY THicc Cruiser

best line ever
I got goosebumps watching this CG trailer live. :O
Empire did nothing wrong!!!
A take hotter than Alderaan in ep 4
Funniest joke ever
Death star was just peacefull station and bad terrorists just destroyed IT
The rebels are really just space Antifa if you think about it
The more correct statement my fellow Imperial is #Empirewasmostlyright
It is so awesome I would pay to see a whole season of that...
Aviation fan here. I cried 😭👌
Star Wars cinematic trailers for games have always been the best. First Swtor, now this!
Its one of the best pieces of Star Wars small form media. It actually made me sympathetic to the empire for once.
This is extremely entertaining!
I´m a fan of the empire BUT i hope we will also get one from the rebels pov.
This games coming in October, and it’s so close to my birthday!! Best present ever
Just watched the CG short. What a masterpiece!
This trailer honestly blew me by suprise on how good it was
This is all I ever wanted
9:15 he is NOT repairing himself.
It's the damage slowly progressing toward the main components of his TIE INTERCEPTOR. Meaning he's on a death count.
This is so cool!
The countermeasure is called a sensor inverter and it’s only on the a wing and tie interceptor
such a sick trailer!
This works not just because it is 'new' to see things from the Imperial POV but because in starfighter combat the Imperials are the underdogs. They have maneuverability but no shields so they have to use their smarts, wits, training and have a large amount of good luck. It also means they can never engage in the light hearted banter of rebel pilots as there is a good chance they won't come back from a mission whereas rebel pilots talk about killing people as if it were some great game. Therefore imperial pilots are like prey and rebel pilots predators, this makes them for this aspect of the Galactic Civil War the underdogs and therefore a lot easier to relate to and sympathise with than most Imperials. And because the odds are so stacked against an Imperial pilot it makes Grey's victory all the more awesome as everything was against him and he still won.
This really has nothing to do with the video but I just gotta say If we can take anything away from bf2's story it's the corvus, what a gorgeous design of a corvette. Takes many inspirations from star destroyers and so on, and it just looks soooo damn good.... I get hyped everytime I see it in squadrons haha.
i have seen it not long after it came out and dang it felt like i was watching a fan film.
The move the imperial pilot does to make the x wing crash. I wonder if we can do that and similar things with the terrain. It would be so cool.
I hope the game isn't space only..
ILM strikes back
I LOVE UR VIDS
Baron Fel is also the brother-in-law to Wedge Antilles
Alright can't take it anymore. Paused video to go preorder.
This is not only visually gorgeous, it's a brilliantly tightly plotted, directed and scripted short movie.
Well done everyone involved in it's production at ILM etc.
One thing I really like about it: It's not just giving us the view from the Imperial side, which is pretty damn rare in SW, it's giving us an unusually and brutally honest view of the War part of Star Wars.
Wars involve a lot of people trying to kill each other. In a surprising change, this isn't glossing over that fact.
One minor thing I really didn't like (and it's not about the short itself, but rather about the text description on the YT post itself: Some idiot at EA Star Wars describes the plot as an Imperial Squadron Leader being "hunted relentlessly by a renegade New Republic X-wing in this standalone STAR WARS: Squadrons story."
There's nothing 'renegade' about the X-Wing pilot's actions. This is all well within the current rules and conventions of war.
I mean, sure, they could have offered surrender, but this is still the mopping up part of a major battle. It's very much still in the hostile part of it too, even if it is mostly the tail end of it. It's arguable if Grey would have taken up such an offer anyhow.
And tempers would most definitely still been very high on both sides. Lots of folks died in this battle, after all, even if it was a victory for the Alliance/New Republic.
The final scenes of the trailer remind me of the Battle of Alderaan cinematic trailer for SW:TOR.
Gorgeous. I’m still salty about the B-Wing being excluded AGAIN, but I can’t argue with what they’ve done here. (But a carefully rendered, playable B-Wing would be so awesome! Particularly if they gave a thought my as to how the flight mechanics would differ from those of a “normal” fighter. Perhaps that’s why it’s not here - too difficult to make it “realistic”. Sigh...)
I am excited for squadrons especially because I have vr I can live my dream of that
