- A rebel strike against the Imperial dockyards at Nabal has failed. After a chaotic battle, one brave rebel pilot remains....
Thank you for watching The Chase! I definitely tried a lot of new things with this short, mainly doing a lot more character animation than I've never done before. This all took around six months to finally put together, and I wanted to get it out while Andor was still airing, so I've made it just in time!

May The Force Be With You!
That is one Resourceful Pilot. Rebellion needs people like him. Never underestimate the impossible.
This pilot deserves the tier of, *“Never tell me the odds!”*
@@OhOh996 Tell me about it. Never underestimate the non force sensitives.
Interestingly, a *lot* of rebels deserve credit for this escape. Pilots were the most scarce and valuable resource the rebellion had, and they abhorred the Empire's strategy of throwing lives at a problem until it disappears, so they leaned hard into training Rebel pilots to their peak and equipping them with the best fighters available. The A-Wing shown here is basically a Porsche with custom upgrades. They also chose their battles accordingly, launching surprise attacks against lightly defended targets where they'd be unlikely to lose too many irreplaceable pilots and fightercraft.
Clearly something went disastrously wrong.
And yet, this is the payoff. A pilot escaping to relay first-hand what happened could be critical to preventing a similar disaster in the future.
@@jaiclary8423 That is true.
I don't know who that name pilot is but he still in one piece
That was great! So the station had gravity well generators that the A-Wing had to take out to escape. I loved this!
Ah, I thought it was the shields he had taken down, but that makes more sense.
Hey, it would make sense to have some micro grav generators since it would help to keep people sticking to the floor and Aldo prevent something like the Holdo maneuver.
Seriously, how did Snokes ship not have Gravity well generators. It could follow ships through hyperspace but not hold them?
Thanks for telling me that i hadn't a clue what was going on 😩
@@That-No-Moon yet another reason why disnep star wars makes no sense
@@That-No-Moon of course it has artificial grav systems, just like almost all other ships in Star Wars. That is way different than a hyperdrive inhibitor grav-well generator.
As for why the Supremacy or whatever it is called didn't have any: I thought that the FO changed to a mobile fleet doctrine after their big base was destroyed. The Supremacy or whatever it was named served as a mobile base for its entire fleet. Maybe they were so confident in their ability to follow their prey anywhere they went that they didn't think that big gravity well generators/hyperdrive inhibitors would ever be necessary. Plus that might be more intimidating.
The Holdo maneuver wasn't supposed to happen. If I accepted the sequel trilogy as canon, I would have to say that it only worked because of an anomaly that changed reality in that area.
In the words of Count Dooku: “I’ve been looking forward to this.”
Indeed.
In the *voice* of Count Dooku
Absolutely amazing, showing off some little known A-Wing features with the backdrop of stunning animation and perfectly built tension. 10/10
Funnily enough, all the way back in the DOS sim X-Wing, it was mentioned that Tie Fighter pilots had reported that the A-Wing could, in fact, shoot backwards. This wasn't included in the sim but was used as a bit of lore. Of course, the higher ranked officers scoffed at the idea and did everything to deny it as they knew it could do a number on morale.
I absolutely love this. Instead of the totally unrealistic idea of 1 A-wing destroying the whole station, his only goal was to take out the gravity well/shield generator things to escape. Amazing work.
Hey 1 A Wing can destroy a Super Stardestroyer 🤭
@@matthiasszillat6890after one of its thruster was smoked and being duelled by everyone including a Nebulon B
It's not unrealistic. Back in X-Wing Alliance i took on an entire Stardestroyer including it's fighter squadrons ... and won.
Yes, i'm THAT old. 😉
Hopefully the Rebellion will come back and finish the job, no more gravitywells to worry about.
Ok, the dogfight is cool? But I actually love the facial animation!
You cab see the exact moment in the pilot’s mind he decides, “Welp, I’m not doing anything better… let’s wreck some Imps.” This is getting good!
Visor down.... "lets do this"
Not one line of dialogue....and yet, an incredibly well told story. Thoroughly impressed.
Visual storytelling at its finest.
Which also means, 1 less voice actor and much less equipments required! Brilliant!
I can't believe this is a fan made film. This is on a whole new level. It takes the best elements from Rogue One, the Rogue Squadron games and books. Everything is flawless, the animation, the music, the sound design, the models used, the cinematography, the color grading. Just wow
FOR THE REBELLION!
Wonderful work! Well done. I cheered when that visor flipped down.
Thanks Shack! Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing as always! It's not often you see the A-Wing use its rotatable laser cannons like that. The pilot was lucky that the gravity well generators didn't fry his hyperdrive the first time he tried to escape.
gravity wells dont fry anything at all, they just emit a "shadow" of a planetary body/star that confuses the hyperdrive sensors to shut down early or they can outright PULL a ship towards it like your entering an actual planets gravity field
@@aurorathearcticwolf4243 forcing a stop might have possibility of frying the system though
@@aurorathearcticwolf4243 Unfortunately we see this rule broken in Rogue One, Rise of Skywalker, and Star Wars Rebels. Unless they've somehow disabled the safety sensors built into hyperdrives
Man a great movie. You did well making this. Very well indeed. Impressive...most Impressive
This genuinely looks and feels like the original Star Wars (1977). I saw it when I was 8 - in 1977.
So you're 54 years old now, right? 🤔
"Any pilot who volunteers to fly an A-wing better be brave or crazy. Probably helps to be a little of both." -General Han Solo.
You did an excellent job evoking these personality quirks using only facial animation. You put more acting effort into this A-wing pilot's eyebrows than the entire cast of the sequel trilogy. I also love that you brought out the swiveling cannon modification many A-wings had, then left it in the rearward facing position leaving the audience to wonder if it ever swiveled back. A very meta detail fans would recognize as this modification often led to jamming until it was repaired.
rotating Guns is canon. I'm rolling my eyes. Frankly, why does it have concussion missiles.
@@slewone4905 yes it IS canon...why wouldnt it have a concussion missile lmfao? many ships can have them installed easily.
@@slewone4905 Because canonically, the A wing is armed with 2 concussion missile launchers with a total of 12 missiles between the two of them
@@ooneybird27 they actually had that? I have been wondering since TLJ why they wouldn't use YT1300 as a bomber when its modifiable, cheap and absolutely OP against starfighters. Can you tell me which comic line?
@@nemdenemam9753 funnily enough a bomber YT1300 is actually canon in legends: When Corellia broke away from the New Republic and a war broke out, Corellia fielded a bomber that was described as basically a YT1300 frame set up as a bomber
This was an absolute joy to watch. From making Ace in a day to crippling those Gravity Well Generators, that A-Wing pilot really knows his stuff.
Most likely ace in a day. While it takes five kills to make ace (the TIE that took itself out early on doesn't count), I'd say we can safely speculate that that pilot got at least four kills during the previous battle, if not more. He's probably ace x2 or x3 in a day.
@@kylecrawford7641 actually, the tie that took itself out does count, at least it would in most modern Air Forces. Causing an opponent to crash is considered a "maneuver kill"
OK, THIS IS BEAUTIFUL. YOU ACTUALLY SHOWED THAT AN A WING HAS MORE THAN JUST LIKE 3 OR 4 MISSLES!!!!
I had no idea that the A-Wing's blasters could flip around like that. Awesome!
Love how much tension was built up and the objective was clear without the use of any dialogue! Awesome work!!
The A-Wing is one of my favorite "Star Wars" starfighter designs.
This was probably the best SW fan film I have seen. The animation was amazing. Well done. I can't wait to see more.
There are some other good fan films too, with good acting. Boba Fett: No Disintegrations, Bucketheads, Darth Maul: Apprentice and Kenobi are four great films from the top of my head.

Me: THE RETURN OF THE KING
Wedge Antilles: "Guys! You'll never believe this!!!"
That was incredible! Definitely the best Star Wars Fan Film creators out there!
This proves it, fans know how to make Star Wars films over the people over at Disney. It's well made, it would make a great part for a larger animated Star Wars film.
This is a masterpiece. Great storytelling despite the lack of dialogue. Everything is communicated with the action on screen. Icing on the cake is how damn good it all looks and all the little lore details interspersed throughout. No shot was wasted. Especially loved the exasperated pilot trying to figure out what's going on and what to do about the gravity well generators, as well as the a-wing rotating it's cannons to fry the TIE.
Love it, esp the part where the shields actually protect the ship, vs it being one-shotted.
I think what I liked best was how close it felt to the original films. The way the animation and effects are just barely reminiscent of the old 70s and 80s blue screen effects really hit me with a nostalgia bomb.
I really dug this story. Nothing heroic, no going down in a blaze of glory by trying one last suicide attempt to complete the mission. Just one man's simple fight to do what he had to do to survive and make it home.
Every time I see amazing fan content like this I further am sad by what we got from Disney. Such a huge universe and they make it seem so small with stuff we've seen before.
This is now my one of my favorite Star Wars fan film of all time!
I find it mind blowing being the age to have seen Star Wars when it was first released, collected the merchandise, played the games, watched some of the very first fan films like Troops etc... that we are now here where guys like you are creating such quality fan films. This is some next level fan film making which I am sure the big studios should be looking at and giving you guys a chance in the industry.
I love the absence of any dialog, and still the team managed to convey the story. That’s the issue with recent movies - actors are saying what they are doing.
Why am I JUST finding this animation now? This was amazing, perfect level of suspense as well, I yelled, 'YEAHHH' as he jumped away lol
OMFG BRO, when that hyperdrive failed I fucking felt that. The immersion of this short film is so real, I actually built up anxiety for that rebel pilot. Huge prompts for doing justice to my favorite franchise. 😊
One of the more enjoyable SW short film I've seen so far, more so than what passes for official SW nowadays...
I was just rummaging through donations at my thrift story when I came across an A-Wing miniature . As it sits upon my table I come across this video it seems destiny was meant for me to watch this.
ahhhhhh i thought there was an interdictor ship somewhere near by. this was extremely clever ! and its always nice to see the A-wing getting some much needed love ! amazing work everyone who was involved !
Good Job everyone, would be a good candidate for Fan Film Directors Choice Awards.
This is so f****** amazing, the angles the CGI, the sound and of course the script i cant get enough. Thank You ❣️
You can tell this man played Squadrons. That makes this so much better, so much more little details
I'm choosing to assume that pilot got a missile resupply just before they lost the battle. Really great animation, got my blood pumping! Love the dogfighting choreography and original star wars-y score.
Thank you for your return on the movie and the score! Glad that you liked it!
He was probably one of the last starfighters deployed. His ship had barely any signs of recent damage, if any at all. That could have just been due to shields though.
What’s impressive is that he’s doing it in a A-wing
makes it ***less*** impressive if you know what that speedy little stunt fighter is truly capable of. it's actually canon in star wars that A-wings have taken out capital ships.
because "MUH GAME BALANCE" people tend to forget that concussion missiles can absolutely take out hardpoints on a star destroyer or something comparable. pop the reactor or something important and watch it burn.
Excellent job!!! Kept my breath for the whole dogfight sequence! Now THIS is Star Wars! Bet that pilot went directly into Rogue Squadron!!
That was the most intense escape I’ve ever seen
He did that one thing that literally everyone with a lego A wing did
Most excellent! Never once hindered by any typical fan film weaknesses. Fantastic.
Everyday flying in the Rebel’s. Unlike them up and down stick drones of the empire. Fantastic animation.
So awesome! Even with no dialogue, the storytelling was evident and animation was good as always. For the Rebellion!
Love the influence that Star Wars: Squadrons clearly had
In any Galaxy near or far, far away, that check engine light is not just a decoration.
What an absolute giga chad
Excellent animation love it, keep up the good work
I like how its the shipyard map from EA Battlefront 2. Like this is what happens after the Empire wins.
Amazing storytelling, emotion, action, drama, and direction for this short film, and it didn't require endless exposition or any voiced lines! Loved this thank you!
In the words of Finn(FN-2187) “THATS ONE HELL OF A PILOT!”
Good to see the pilots fatigue shown after a prolonged battle
This is next level stuff from what youve been doing and that was already great on it's own! Congratulations!
Literally the odds rebel pilots are trained for 😊
This was fantastic! Did you mocap the pilots movements and/or do performance capture? The pilot was one of the most realistic CGI characters I’ve ever seen. Everything just worked together wonderfully.
I agree, the face was SO good
it has to be, or maybe he took the animations from cinematics from squadrons
My Star Wars Squadrons’ ahem squadron is called Remnant and we flew blue Ralph McQuarrie or Echo Squadron awings back before awings got hit with nerfs. Feels close to home. Enjoyed watching.
Zero dialogue, but a whole story was told; and told well! Bravo!
Was so freaking excited to see another video from you! Did NOT disappoint! Amazing!
this style of visual storytelling reminds me heavily of Samurai Jack, good job
always love your work, the wait for each new video is 100% worth it
This was so much fun! The A-Wing is my favorite and you did SUCH a great job with it!
Great film! That was fantastic! I appreciate all the inspiration from Squadrons
So fan animations are good enough to be movies now. Wowser.
This is incredible! One of the best fan films I have ever seen!
My regret is i have only one like to give for such hard work.
That feels as Star Wars!
Well, that was freaking impressive! Nice to see a bit more of what the A-Wing can do?
Somebody has clearly played either X-Wing or maybe the new squadrons. It shows in the making of the film.
I'm so happy, that someone finally showed, that unique feature of A-wing - those guns could change their fire arc. May the Force be with you!
Mr. Fletcher, you did a magnificient work piece of art! holy moly....now a 180 min version please! after Rogue One this would be the second best! thanks a lot💫👍
NOW, THIS IS STAR WARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not the Kathleen Kennedy disney sh!t we've seen. This has more character development and Star Wars action than disney could ever pay for.
I may be pro-Imperial at heart but this is solid work. Really love how much effort was put into the rebel's expressions, too. Really tells a story of its own without need of dialogue.
... still hope for some pro-Imperial films from ya at some point, though. =P
Animation amazing, tension and suspense awesome, showing off great piloting skills great.
First. Awesome work. Got to see a fight from the pilots point of view. A lone A-Wing pilot outnumbered and outgunned but achieves the impossible and is able to escape to fight another day. Seeing the blasters on that a wing rotated 90° to kill the Tie fighters chasing him first time I’ve actually seen that and probably the first thing on screen we knew of this feature but just never got to see it
Perhaps this is the route star Wars needs to take. No more live action fails.
Based
Now that was some fancy flying. Long live the rebellion.
Hell of a pilot! 🔥
I LOVE IT!! As one who used 2001 as the basis for a college project (my 8th grade class and my dad made a pilgrimage to the local theater to see 2001 in '68!) I commend this great effort! WAY betta than mine! lol
For a moment when the first scene showed up I thought, "the wreckage of the battle on Skarif" as it almost looked like the shield gate ring, but then the opening story didn't say this was after the battle in Rogue One. Impressive animation, very impressive.
A-wing pilots are the shiz. The hand-built sports car of the galaxy, (they even give me Gmund vibes) and the starfighter I most want to fly from all of fiction. Such a well done piece, great facial animation. Beautiful.
Wait A wings can fire backwards ?
The Mk I could.
Holy Smokes!
Only 5 min long!!
Amazing amount of storytelling packed into such a short timeline - excellent
GOD DAMN THIS IS SOME TOP-TIER SHIT!!! The only way it could have been better is if the pilot muttered "Blast" under his breath as was looking over his system diagnostics, it would have been great.
This short really is your masterpiece
captions: After battle only one brave pilot remains
pilot: immediately tries to jump to hyperspace😂
Holy crap that was amazing!! I watched this, went back and watched every video on this channel, then watched this again. The improvement over that time is remarkable!!
The pacing, camera framing, sound, effects, lighting, choreography and even character shading and animation here on display is TOP NOTCH!!!! 🎉🎉 definitely going into my favorites to stay.
Well done! Flying scenes, graphics and music were all top-notch!
Thank you very much!
I think it’s really nice that this is without any lines, since it adds to that international/all-ages appeal.
took me second to realize it wasn't a real humans only knew cause the eyes moved unlike a real human
From a person who really doesn't care much about Star Wars as a franchise: This is superb. Keep at it. My only regret is that he isn't muttering to himself a little here and there as he goes about his business. And I will say that I was expecting (naively, not knowing canon well) that the ship would blow up as a result of his handiwork. "Well, I can't escape, but I can see the reactor we missed from here, who wants to live forever?" And then maybe he escapes by some fluke.
BRAVISSIMO !!!!!!%$£ **** !!!!! ONE OF THE BEST SWU side sequel sequence designed ! BIG PIECE OF SF ART !!!!
these are so good, could pls get a series and thanks for all your hard work
Very cool. Had some Space above and Beyond vibes to it.
Just discovered your videos and I love them! Love the A-Wings with hyperdrive capabilities. Sure they may not be as fast as the A-Wings without them but still a good ship all the same! Keep up the awesome work! Also, music reminded me of Rogue Squadron for the N64.
Good job on consistently doing better with Star Wars in minute bursts than Disney has done in 10 years
Cute!!!! Didnt know that Awings could turn their lasers! Full of surprises little death traps they are! :D
These just keep getting better
I love the idea that these planetary shields would have interdictor arrays. That would make complete sense for a fixed installation
