Fem-Ash was super early on when there was a potential plan for the frames having a male and a female version. It's why Excal and Nyx are almost identical body wise. It was scrapped super early on.
I still remember how I farmed all of ash's parts twice completely by accident when I was trying to farm for harrow systems. Ah Harrow, a warframe whose aquisition description in the warframe wiki should be: Just Farm it's prime parts it'll be quicker.
Im actually glad you didn't cover the literal arcane wizardry of ash's 'specter" bladestorm builds. One of those few things that is almost literally an eldritch horror in that the more you look at it, the more cursed it gets and the more confusing it gets and the less sense the rest of the game makes because as you start to understand how/why it works you start questioning everything else in the game.

I remember when radiation hazard sorties were a problem because of this. You'd have to keep a close eye on ash in case he got radiated and just murdered the whole team. Luckily I mained Saryn at the time and the monent the ash gets radiated, I ult and kill him before he can kill us. Oh and back then Saryn's spores spread so much faster.
I love watching these in depth history videos so much as a player who started in Year 3 of wf but quit until year 6. They are so informative and such good quality. Keep up the good job! Also, Melee Crescendo is also a buff. Infinite easy 12x because of his 4
I was never into ash personally, except when his 4 didn't require you to aim around. When they added that i dropped him immediately as i never had energize and we didn't have other better energy gain sources to counter his horrible energy economy. I used him for a tiny bit when i heard that savage silence boosted his 4 only to realize even with decent strength his 'amazing' bladestorm wouldn't always one shot enemies so i just gave up on him due to all the extra effort when shooting my guns did more damage. These days, ive only used him a few times for disruption missions due to his slash boosts helping against grineer where i don't even have to do anything but shoot enemies with Conventrix, no special set up or build up just shoot. But eh. I don't think ill ever use him because the gameplay of armor stripping aoe mag followed by pulling them into a pile and one shotting them with a glaive just can't be matched by him lol. At least hes the only thematically appropriate "ninja" in the game?
@@MyDemon32for as much as I like Ash, OP is 100% right. Other frames can do what Ash does way easier and way faster. That’s why Ash needs some help. Either make Blade Storm a pseudo-exalt again (which DE doesn’t seem too keen on doing), or at the very least improve its usability and tweak some other abilities to bring it in line with modern Warframe

"Ash wasn't able to keep up" hit me on a personal level. Yes, I'm not keeping up. I'm running around solo with a bow and don't care that bladestorm is sluggish. I wasn't even aware that there was this much discussion around my boy. I remember when I got him people didn't like him (that's when bladestorm got slower apparently) and always sticked with the impression that he is not popular. Then again, I'm not playing disruption and don't pay attention to the meta. Which is exactly why I will always love him, I play him for what he is no matter how strong. I love Ash and Bladestorm Ash has been my favourite frame for years, is super cool and strong. Years ago, when I played Ash for the first time, I wasn't too impressed, but ever since his Bladestorm rework (with the marks), I'm madly in love. Plus, Ash Prime is super hawt. Before his quality of life patch, I had still complained about the marking mechanism, but that's better now. Honestly, I wish he had more interaction with clones instead of further straight Bladestorm buffs, since they are a part of his lore and Bladestorm already is very strong, but I don't care which ability gains the clones, I just want more 😀 If he would summon clones on Smoke Screen or Teleport that stagger, stun or stealth kill at his side. Or if the use of Shuriken would add clones to Bladestorm. Or if clones would randomly appear and mark targets for takedown (I know, maybe too many marks 😸). His Smoke Screen doesn't necessarily need duration because with shorter duration you can recast it and stagger enemies over and over, but ever since Whispers in the Wall, I run Energy Nexus and dropped Streamline and the minus duration one, which is funnily enough more efficient than these two. Actually, Ash is very fine at the moment.
certainly needs some slight updates, maybe 2 seconds to his base duration of smakescreen and a change to his teleport to make it not be a ...... worse Wrathful Advance.....
One thing you didn't mention is that when the Dark Sector update arrived, we used to have attack-defense mode for each clan's solar rail to battle for dark sector's node ownership and profit from taxes. So basically you attack and or defend your solar rail from other clan member pvp style, and how do we cheese that mission? Ash's bladestorm, basically just rush in, press 4, and push.
@@NovaUmbral yeah it was like, the obscure time of warframe, it was the peak of Alliance-Clan cooperation and backstabbing. Ash's Bladestorm and (iirc) nova's 4 before it was changed to a wave was the go to for "tryhard clans".
Great video but one thing you forgot to add was the duviri circuit and how you can ignore that pesky railjack mission and just grind ash and how that increased his accessability
Ash is so so fun, all he needs is high duration and a slash weapon, he can do anything in game with this set up, or you can go the bladestorm route but i prefer guns and invisibility
I'd be down for all the changes you listed. I'd only add slight bump to Smokebomb duration and give Bladestorm a Peacemakers-like reticle with which you have easier time marking enemies quick and in wider area. With new LoS changes, it will not be blocked by clutter as much as well. And have clones execute enemies immediately, rather than one at a time. Dante can wipe the room with a press of a button, I don't see why Ash has to be so scuffed doing the same thing.
Yeah I never understood how moving Ash and Oberon into Railjack made any sense or did anything for the gamemode other than artifically boosting the number of people who played it by forcing people who wanted to farm Ash or Oberon to do Railjack or how it made getting Ash or Oberon feel any better. For Sevagoth it made sense why his farm was in Railjack. His lore is that he was the captain of a renowned rescue Railjack.
I miss the press 4 to win ash 😢 the good old days i wish they would give a argument that removes the manual targeting or maybe allow us tap/hold option for auto Targeting 😢
My Favorite Warframe of all time. The Warframe I played the most. The Warframe that I find the most interesting. When I first found your channel I was sad that Ash didnt have an Entry. ASH BRO'S ASSEMBLE
And then Ivara came along, with her Prowl Augment making her invisibility better than Loki's and Ash's due to being able to also ignore environmental hazards... And her exalted bow having its known uses, like actual combat... And floof hunting once that was introduced. Night Equinox's Rest is also good for floof hunting, but (shrugs)
Personally I like your suggestions for Ash, he really can just be fixed with a few minor tweaks. - Shuriken getting more Shurikens by default is a good idea, but I would also suggest making it so enemies hit with Shuriken have a higher chance to proc Bleed from all sources. Kind of like a weaker Garuda 4m the status chance is higher, but not guaranteed. If you hit an enemy with a Shuriken, they are also prioritized first by your Shadow Clones to make killing specific targets easier. Just so the ability has a use as a Helminth option and on Ash himself without the Augment. - Going to just say I agree with the Teleport changes overall. Not much to add there, but I would hope the new Augment adds something like a Marked for Death function to Teleport instead. - Bladestorm and it's QoL would also seriously benefit a Tap and Hold functionality, wherein the ability would only end if you Hold Cast, and Tap Casts just activate the clones. That way, continuous Bladestorm casts are easier, hopefully helping him with his generally clunky gameplay. Less button presses and something like an actual reticle as you've stated would be appreciated.
I am, to this day, one of the people the Bladestorm gutting was aimed at. I like the animation (jank and all), and I just found it really funny to be able to see one guy's ankle and press 4 on that to clear the entire room behind him Bad for the game? Absolutely, 100% Good for me? Absolutely, 100% The nerf was needed but damn do I miss those days

When the game first launched I used to think Ash and Excalibur were rivals or something because they had similar designs and opposing origins because ones a European knight the other is a japanese ninja
Tbh , at this point in time DE could let ash ultimate use his melee weapon again. Enemies are way bulkier and we are only dealing finisher dmg , also , ash is not easy to farm by any means , by the time a player gets him , he should be done with almost all the mid-game and starting to dip their toes into things like arbitration and SP. But hey , I still use ash from time to time , he is a very fun frame and with savage silence he can put up some serious dmg.
Weapon archetype does not matter regarding blade storm damage. It may be a glitch or bug, but I tried 15+ different weapons. 7 different types one with lowest unmodded damage and one with highest unmodded damage for each of the 7 categories. My damage was flat and unchanged across all 15+ weapons. I have up before splitting hairs in weapon types. Daggers Rapiers Whips Sword shield Nakanas Swords Machete All don't change damage. I also never had varying damage between animations. The last 2 enemies always had the exact increase from the multiplier. While the first 6 also had exactly the same number.
Thanks for this deep dive into Ash, one of my favorite Warframes. Do you think you'll ever look at Ivara? She's supposed to be "The Hunter" but I'm not seeing how she's much of a "Hunter." I can see Ash being a Ninja but I'm not sure frames do what DE thinks they do and it's more marketing hype than anything.
I feel if they could do an interface change on ash's smoke shadow it would be a lot better. I would like to see it show as a buff, Also they should make ash's armor strip with his shurikens be an innate instead of augmentation, the new augment could be causes slash to spread across multiple enemies? with ash's fatal teleport it honestly is good I use it and it kills annoying units with ease. (whats the point of armor strip if you can just 1 shot the enemy + the armor stripping ability is inconsistent) DE should also make it where fatal teleport works on all enemies except for bosses. its pretty damn stupid for abilities to not work on normal enemies. his bladestorm is amazing that + Savage silence already destroys and kills fast even at level cap with the correct stat stick. I one niche about it, change the damn augment for it. combo multiplier is becoming obsolete unless you solely focus on melee attacks. It should atleast be more than what it is. I'd say the augment should spread the status to nearby enemies or it make it where it boosts slash some how
I think changing bladestorm to work like Ember's inferno would've been alright and then make it a hold cast to go into the animation rather than locking it into his 3
Ash Prime is my first prime with a price of 6p. Still keep him and almost disappointed with him losing edges with each update until now. Good thing Slash procs become one of the most deadly damage in the game and Kullervo update giving him another bridge that allows him to be semi meta frame. I still miss the monochrome filter in his 4th ability.
with melee crescendo tiers 3-4-5 you get infinite x12 combo so fast and can use god roll rivens witch negative is no combo count just for that i main Ash a lot now

Like I said before Ash needs a revisit, Ash has issues most people don`t know about, the biggest issue being inconsistency. Shuriken can`t consistently hit the target YOU want to hit. His teleport can`t consistently open humanoid enemies up for finishers. His bladestorm is slow, inconsistent and nit fun to use. He relies too much on augments and helminth for his abilities to be useful to the point where at base with no add-ons people think Ash is not good. Other warframe can do what he can do or do it better. Bases on this Ash really needs a revisit, despite what people say, based on the facts and stats of Ash people don`t like Ash as much as they say they do. I do believe that the mechanics of the old BS should return but not with it`s issues. Here`s what I would do to BS: When activating the ability, it will start instantly. Enemies that are within the radius of the enemy your radical in on will be affected by it. The target range is 30m while the radius is 20m which can be increased by range mods. Pressing the ability will bring you into the animation while holding the ability will send clones out to kill instead of you. If you want to jump out of bs, press the ability again and the clones will continue to kill enemies. Enemies that are red can be killed by players. It ignores line of site. There is no limit to how many enemies he can kill within the radius of the enemy he`s aiming at. On deactivation or when blade storm ends while in the animation, Ash teleports back to the position where he first activated it. An indicator is shown of the number of enemies that are going to be killed by bs. Sliding before activating will increase the animation speed and clones` attack speed by 20%. Your sentinel will not only be invulnerable but will also visually disappear while in the animation, this also including visually pickups from vacuum. If you want to see all the facts, stats and my improvements to Ash, go to the warframe forums and look at the post: EVIDENCE OF WHY ASH NEEDS A REVISIT You will see a compelling reason as to why Ash needs a revisit and a solution that will make Ash a better warframe before and after the nerf.
I still main ash(46% usage ) just because looks cool and is the most space ninja warframe of all warframes but a lot of times is a pain in the ass play him because the 4 is so slow on the current meta i use melee crescendo on slash-blast glaive for AOE and electric ceramic dagger for acolytes and bombcarriers and if there is any other nuke frame on the team is near imposible to charge melee crescendo and activate mele trickery consistenly with the 4 just because the allies kill the enemies before your blade storm specially dantes,mesas or saryns Ash not need a big rework mainly small updates and fixes like make shuriken trow 4 or 6 surikens with high power streng ( and of course make the seeking suriken augment intrinsic to the first ability without that mod that ability is useless maybe was good on 2014 but now is worthless) and make blade storm faster maybe making all the marked enemies start recieving ash clones damage at the same time and not in order or something like that for the rest i think is fine just the fatal teleport augment need a fix because not work half of the time and you still need to press the finisher button after the teleport no matter what i will still main Ash and is the only heilroom and voidshell i want to buy

I'd only add slight bump to Smokebomb duration and give Bladestorm a Peacemakers-like reticle with which you have easier time marking enemies quick and in wider area. With new LoS changes, it will not be blocked by clutter as much as well. And have clones execute enemies immediately, rather than one at a time. Dante can wipe the room with a press of a button, I don't see why Ash has to be so scuffed doing the same thing.

Yeah I never understood how moving Ash and Oberon into Railjack made any sense or did anything for the gamemode other than artifically boosting the number of people who played it by forcing people who wanted to farm Ash or Oberon to do Railjack or how it made getting Ash or Oberon feel any better. For Sevagoth it made sense why his farm was in Railjack. His lore is that he was the captain of a renowned rescue Railjack.
While grinding Inaros I got the Ash Systems and this releasing so soon, I might as well take it as a sign and grind the rest of his kit.

Personally I like your suggestions for Ash, he really can just be fixed with a few minor tweaks.
- Shuriken getting more Shurikens by default is a good idea, but I would also suggest making it so enemies hit with Shuriken have a higher chance to proc Bleed from all sources. Kind of like a weaker Garuda 4m the status chance is higher, but not guaranteed. If you hit an enemy with a Shuriken, they are also prioritized first by your Shadow Clones to make killing specific targets easier. Just so the ability has a use as a Helminth option and on Ash himself without the Augment.
- Going to just say I agree with the Teleport changes overall. Not much to add there, but I would hope the new Augment adds something like a Marked for Death function to Teleport instead.
- Bladestorm and it's QoL would also seriously benefit a Tap and Hold functionality, wherein the ability would only end if you Hold Cast, and Tap Casts just activate the clones. That way, continuous Bladestorm casts are easier, hopefully helping him with his generally clunky gameplay. Less button presses and something like an actual reticle as you've stated would be appreciated.
Also his shuriken should armor strip by default since without the augment the ablity on it's own is completely worthless

Funny my brother got 2 sets of him and gifted me one and grinded for vex prime and Carrier prime he's been my main ever since
I am, to this day, one of the people the Bladestorm gutting was aimed at. I like the animation (jank and all), and I just found it really funny to be able to see one guy's ankle and press 4 on that to clear the entire room behind him

for the moving of ash to railjack instead of the maniacs or whatever, i never got in many years of playing more than 1 ash part from those guys, the type of mission i run the most is grineer and those guys almost never appeared to my, i can count in my fingers, actually my first ash was the ash prime they gave at tennocon
When the game first launched I used to think Ash and Excalibur were rivals or something because they had similar designs and opposing origins because ones a European knight the other is a japanese ninja

Tbh , at this point in time DE could let ash ultimate use his melee weapon again. Enemies are way bulkier and we are only dealing finisher dmg , also , ash is not easy to farm by any means , by the time a player gets him , he should be done with almost all the mid-game and starting to dip their toes into things like arbitration and SP.
But hey , I still use ash from time to time , he is a very fun frame and with savage silence he can put up some serious dmg.
Weapon archetype does not matter regarding blade storm damage. It may be a glitch or bug, but I tried 15+ different weapons. 7 different types one with lowest unmodded damage and one with highest unmodded damage for each of the 7 categories. My damage was flat and unchanged across all 15+ weapons. I have up before splitting hairs in weapon types.

Whips
Sword shield
Nakanas
Swords
Machete
All don't change damage.
I also never had varying damage between animations. The last 2 enemies always had the exact increase from the multiplier. While the first 6 also had exactly the same number.

Thanks for this deep dive into Ash, one of my favorite Warframes. Do you think you'll ever look at Ivara? She's supposed to be "The Hunter" but I'm not seeing how she's much of a "Hunter." I can see Ash being a Ninja but I'm not sure frames do what DE thinks they do and it's more marketing hype than anything.

with ash's fatal teleport it honestly is good I use it and it kills annoying units with ease. (whats the point of armor strip if you can just 1 shot the enemy + the armor stripping ability is inconsistent) DE should also make it where fatal teleport works on all enemies except for bosses. its pretty damn stupid for abilities to not work on normal enemies.
his bladestorm is amazing that + Savage silence already destroys and kills fast even at level cap with the correct stat stick. I one niche about it, change the damn augment for it. combo multiplier is becoming obsolete unless you solely focus on melee attacks. It should atleast be more than what it is. I'd say the augment should spread the status to nearby enemies or it make it where it boosts slash some how

Ash is life.
Ash Prime is my first prime with a price of 6p. Still keep him and almost disappointed with him losing edges with each update until now. Good thing Slash procs become one of the most deadly damage in the game and Kullervo update giving him another bridge that allows him to be semi meta frame. I still miss the monochrome filter in his 4th ability.

I can`t believe it, I was asking for an Ash vid and giving my opinion for a revisit for Ash, I take my eyes off this channel and I`m 2 weeks late.
Like I said before Ash needs a revisit, Ash has issues most people don`t know about, the biggest issue being inconsistency.
Shuriken can`t consistently hit the target YOU want to hit.
His teleport can`t consistently open humanoid enemies up for finishers.
His bladestorm is slow, inconsistent and nit fun to use.
He relies too much on augments and helminth for his abilities to be useful to the point where at base with no add-ons people think Ash is not good.
Other warframe can do what he can do or do it better.
Bases on this Ash really needs a revisit, despite what people say, based on the facts and stats of Ash people don`t like Ash as much as they say they do. I do believe that the mechanics of the old BS should return but not with it`s issues.
Here`s what I would do to BS:
When activating the ability, it will start instantly.
Enemies that are within the radius of the enemy your radical in on will be affected by it.
The target range is 30m while the radius is 20m which can be increased by range mods.
Pressing the ability will bring you into the animation while holding the ability will send clones out to kill instead of you.
If you want to jump out of bs, press the ability again and the clones will continue to kill enemies.
Enemies that are red can be killed by players.
It ignores line of site.
There is no limit to how many enemies he can kill within the radius of the enemy he`s aiming at.
On deactivation or when blade storm ends while in the animation, Ash teleports back to the position where he first activated it.
An indicator is shown of the number of enemies that are going to be killed by bs.
Sliding before activating will increase the animation speed and clones` attack speed by 20%.
Your sentinel will not only be invulnerable but will also visually disappear while in the animation, this also including visually pickups from vacuum.

I still main ash(46% usage ) just because looks cool and is the most space ninja warframe of all warframes but a lot of times is a pain in the ass play him because the 4 is so slow on the current meta i use melee crescendo on slash-blast glaive for AOE and electric ceramic dagger for acolytes and bombcarriers and if there is any other nuke frame on the team is near imposible to charge melee crescendo and activate mele trickery consistenly with the 4 just because the allies kill the enemies before your blade storm specially dantes,mesas or saryns
Ash not need a big rework mainly small updates and fixes like make shuriken trow 4 or 6 surikens with high power streng ( and of course make the seeking suriken augment intrinsic to the first ability without that mod that ability is useless maybe was good on 2014 but now is worthless) and make blade storm faster maybe making all the marked enemies start recieving ash clones damage at the same time and not in order or something like that for the rest i think is fine just the fatal teleport augment need a fix because not work half of the time and you still need to press the finisher button after the teleport
