    I called the dealership and amsoil and both said not to add any additional friction modifier to the oil because it has it already in it. Amsoil said that the information on the website is just basically a copy and paste from the owners manual so it doesn't account for the oil already having the modifier in it. Just thought it was some good additional information.

    More info if needed for other trucks please to help people out with different rears. From factory none did NOT come with 90w. They are all mix grade, and the 3.92 limited slip takes 75-140 with 5oz of limited slip friction modifiers.

  • @gpaje
    @gpaje 3 года назад +4

    Good to see your fluid wasn't low from the factory, there is talk on the forums for 2019-Newer RAMs that some people have noticed their rear diffs weren't filled up correctly from factory. You took off the fill bolt and fluid came out, good sign. I'm way early for a fluid change, but I will remove the fill bolt and check if I'm low.

    • @CaptainBerz
      @CaptainBerz  3 года назад

      Lower is better than fuller. If no fluid comes out that doesn’t mean it’s low. Could be right below the hole.

    • @gpaje
      @gpaje 3 года назад

      @@CaptainBerz That's true, excellent point. Though a few noted that after their drain they only got 2/3rds of the fluid out. Makes me wonder if they were actually low or they couldn't get all the fluid out?

      @@CaptainBerz Absolutely, but if you drain less than 2 quarts out and the spec is 2.85 quarts, how much of that do you think is still in the diff? I would suspect that quite a bit of that was never in there in the first place.

      This is correct my 2020 blew the diff on the highway because of this. Scariest experience ever. Thought the truck blew up into pieces from underneath. When dealer opened it, there was a million shattered pieces. They got me an entire new rear assembly.

      The axle (diff) has a vent to atmosphere that ensures it does not pressurize as it heats up. Without a vent oil would get forced past the axle and pinion seals (leaks). This vent also ensures it does not draw a vacuum when draining. First thing to do on any maintenance is to ensure the vent is clear and breathing.
