Would you ever take a hosting job in front of top Hollywood celebrities on a 10-day notice?! Jo Koy was the only ONE left as dozens already shrugged it off. He did picked it up.. and faced the humiliation!! Proud of you, man.

I agree with a lot of what you said. The media just chose to highlight the bad parts. Why not mention that meryl Streep and Robert Deniro laughed at his Jokes? I am not hating on Taylor Swift and Ryan Gosling either, it is there right not to laugh or feel however they felt at Jo Koys Jokes. As someone who has been bullied before and an actor myself, i can understand how some actors in the audience will have a defensive shell. At the end off the day, i think this is still a win win for Jo Koy, as Steve Martin said " He know he has 20 minutes of new material,"

Someone who attended the event said that the crowd near the stage, the A-listers, are the ones who were stiff and cold. Those that were on the upper deck, the ones farther, had laughs. Those were the people who could relate to Jokoy.

Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep are so made, they know how it is like to be gracious to a host whose job is to roast. The others didn’t understand the role of the host. They were sizing him up.

Jo koy is a great host. His audiences are not used to him in Golden Globe.
Hollyweird looked down on him because he is not really that famous so they won't take any diss from a nobody but they could take what Gervais said and laugh their heads of because Gervais is not only famous but is one of them since he is also an actor. Plus, he is Brit so they are willing to kowtow to someone like him and his accent LOL.

Truth! I hated Brittany Spears until she had a nervous breakdown publicly, then I was all compassion and love for the gal. Her bad publicity certainly gave her more love from her "not fans"

My family and I love Jo Koy and we never fail to laugh whenever we’d watch him. He was always sooo relatable and as you have said in the video it’s hard for these elites to understand his jokes since they appeal to everyday common people. On the other hand though, they should learn to laugh once in a while 💀💀

Thank you for being fair to Joy Koy. Mainstream media was quick to judge & did not consider an elite difficult audience that lacked empathy for a fellow entertainer.
Golden globes viewership jumped up 50% seems like a win to me.
He did well after watching it a few times, the jokes were on par and subtle for a first-time host for a big awards night with 10 days preparation and that no one wants to step in. The media loved to write about negative stuff and that is how some are reacting, we were not present in the awards, and we do not know what else happened. For all we know they had a laugh and a great time, and the media couldn't wait to write how it bomb just to get ratings on negative press release. Jokoy took the challenge, for a first timer and unknown to some. He was brave to step in and face the music be it positive or not. For letting people know about the writers being thrown under a bus, I feel this was also part of the act and joke, and heard the audience laugh. The cameras did well to put him in a bad light here by zooming on him rather than the audience when he said that. Gives the Golden Globes good publicity, for TS and RG...did not play or support him on the subtle jokes, a smile wouldn't hurt and be a sport, check the other re-runs on previous GG hosts they were open, savage and brutal.
I totally agree, some viewers should just be a good sport with some jokes, it's expected at this kind of event, it's Holywood!

Exactly!!! This 1000%. A lot of people don't know how much time and effort is put into performances in general, but especially one like this. I am very appreciative of everyone that is realizing that doing this in 10 days is monumental and THAT deserves an award. Shows who has real, pure talent, and those that don't. Because many of the people in that room, some that turned down the gig, know just how difficult that is to pull off, and they know they wouldn't have done as good as a job.

Jo Koy had one immigrant parent. His father was in the US Air Force when he met his mother and was an American citizen.

They would rather get publicity by being roasted by Ricky Gervais, and let's be honest, he got away with it because he they know him, he's acted in movies in the states and they knew what to expect seeing as he had hosted the awards many times before!
I hear all these prats complaining but not one of them complained at Gervais last hosting of the awards!

That’s a perfect analysis of Jokoy’s performance at the Golden Globes. It’s hard to make a roomful of egoistic, narcissistic humorless celebrities to laugh at your jokes.
They took an non A-lister as host 10 days before...but ppl know him now so I think this will be good for him.
It’s tough doing awards shows, but I enjoyed Jo Koy. He had only 10 days notice to prepare. People are making more about this and should stop. If Ricky Gervais was hosting, I would mot have watched.Too much of Taylor Swift!!! I am sick of her and I really laughed hard with her call out- she should know- The truth hurts, huh!!! I did like that he had NO Profanity in his monologue, he usually drops the F- bomb too much in his regular routine. He should be proud he got to do this job and on tv. It’s not his fault the audience has no sense of humor!!!!😂
Those outlets that were quick to judge had no idea who Jo Koy was, and many of them came off as if he didn't deserve to be there. Also, while I understand that Taylor fans have a right to be defensive, his joke seemed much more like a jab at the NLF, not her. Her boyfriend's jab that he's a "nobody" felt much more hurtful in my opinion.
At the end of the day, negativity seems to sell, and everyone just seemed to jump on that bad vibe bandwagon. Those in the industry who have had to work to get to where they are seem to be ones that are defending Jo Koy, and that's nice to see.
The former hosts and his fellow comedians are the ones defending Jokoy. Why? Because they know how tough the job was. They’re in the position to give feedback because that’s what they do and have done.

A lot of them are laughing. Watching it back as many times as I did, you can see a lot of people are laughing and smiling. They zoomed in on those that weren't and a lot of me thinks that it was a lot of people just being like "Who is this guy?" because I don't think they knew the host had been changed. That is pure speculation on my part. The little bit I know of performances and planning etc. I think that's what happened. But a lot of people, including Meryl were having so much fun with it! Media's just playing their game.
POV: You’re a hard working employee at a retail store and your other coworkers called out for work and you’re willing to fill in the roles for that day. Most of the customers were not so kind and some of your coworkers think you making them look bad for working hard but you’re doing your best because you’re grateful to have opportunities (a job/career/a responsibility given to you/ source of income/everything God entrusted to you). You show up and you do your best because you are grateful.

Probably would have been better if you threw in a few more of his jokes/lines from it. I watched a bit of it as my wife skipped through it on the DVR. I know that guy is funny! I watched a lot of him on youtube, netflix, etc. I thought he was funny and the fact that they weren't laughing made it even more funny!

A lot of those trashing him don't even know him. Ricky Gervais monologue are more brutal. Take note Tina Fey and Amy Pohler also made fun of Taylor when they hosted.
Really revealed the true nature of Hollywood and Internet Cancel Culture after one revealing night of pettiness for a few missed jokes that isn't even his writing. It's fantastic. Screw the writers but he needs to own the jokes as well. He doesn't need to apologize. It's part of the gig with less prep time. Other GG hosts roast with no remorse. So what's different this time? Lots of factors come to mind but some more obvious than others.

Totally agree with you. I think it wasn't his best night but I laughed at a few jokes. I think most people, especially fans of Jokoy knew the fanatic Swifties would get on him after her lackluster response so they had to respond. And so many comedians are basically defending Jokoy. The clear winner this year in all this is the Golden Globes cuz we're still talking about it.
A lot of simple minds didn't get the joke. He wasn't even talking bad about her. But of course, they make this ONE an issue.

Barbie is not even all THAT in pushing for women's agenda in terms of the beauty pressures we face. Margot, after turning into a real person, still loked every inch the standard of Hollywood beauty. There were no Barbies with cellulite, love handles, and wrinkles... sure, it's good for teaching women that they can be anything they want ... just make sure you're still pretty while making it in life. Jokoy, however, walks his talk and is the opposite of misogynistic as haters are labeling him. He treats all the women in his life, whether they be his exes, like queens.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. I watched the monologue, and didn’t see why people were mad, but thought it was funny, and I’ve seen his Netflix special
10 days preparation you telling me Jo has time to write all them jokes and the director approve all the jokes.... it takes months and months to arrange the event

As a fan of his, I actually found parts of his skit pretty funny. I think he had a hard audience who have never seen his stuff. And I think you're right on about the botox. Ryan Gosling is really funny and laughs at himself a lot, but in a deadpan way, so that was him chuckling NOT being annoyed. That little bit by Kristin Wiig and Will Farrell has gotten so much applause but I found it really dumb, even though I like both comedians normally. So that goes to show the weird preference by the media and Hollywood elite.
After watching the full 10-minute monologue, it's not that bad contrary to what people say. Reducing it to even just 6 minutes and pointing out the bad parts makes it awful. You mentioned that Hollywood celebrities can't laugh at themselves and they take themselves so seriously and that's the exact opposite of the Filipinos. Jo Koy talks a lot about Filipinos in his stand up performances and with regards to his monologue in Golden Globes, that could be his low-key way of incorporating the Filipino trait... although stand up comedy might include making fun of the people. Celebs need to chill 😄
It's so funny to me that defenders of the Barbie movie are posting memes and lengthy keyboard diatribes against Jo Koy's "big boobs" joke. He actually did like the movie and I can name a ton of far worse, heinous commentary and actions about the Barbie movie. I enjoyed the Barbie movie, but honestly, if people really wanted to make diatribes about missing the point, Mattel's plot for more toy movies illustrates that all too well.
One has to have a sense of humour to appreciate his comedy.

Hey I really like the guy! I've just recently came to know of him and I mean like October! And I find him extremely funny for a stand up comedian. I see didn't see nor hear anything wrong in his part at all for golden globes and I really hope he makes it big because the average Joe can really relate to him and there is more average joes in the world then the Elite!

I didn't think he did that bad. It's only afterwards that I heard he bombed. I'm not sure who was the one person who pushed the narrative that he bombed, but there must have been a push.

What turned me off about his performance was throwing his writers under the bus to save face.
Some think it may have been part of the bit. And who knows, maybe it was AI? Maybe it was people that don't know him and his jokes? Maybe it was first time working with a "team of writers?" Everyone has their own personality and style and if you don't choose the writers, which he most likely didn't, then there will be creativity clashes. I hear what you're saying though.
@@empathictimes it may be a part of the act or not, but a good joke doesn't need any explanation or rationalization at all. and he had plenty of those gaffes, he can't decide whether to be abrasive like ricky gervais or harmless like jimmy kimmel, even apologizing for the taylor swift joke which was totally unnecessary. this is not hating on jo koy, merely calling a spade a spade. he had a misstep, and hopefully it's the last one.
I enjoyed your take. He did okay. And he had some really good ones. I liked the harry, meghan, royal family and ozempic jokes the best. It's free publicly for him and now thousands if not millions of people who didn't know him now do 🤷♀️. Agree too that this was a stiff crowd, may have been the stiffest crowd thus far.

Those who mocked him at the golden arena, were ridiculous and thought they were better than Jokoy. They were not, OMG! The actors who attended were not the respectable ones, except Robert de Niro, to name one.
I forgot to mention a favorite award- winning actress - Myrell Streep. Who is Taylor Swift, anyway. She did not even earn an award! The host of this channel was indeed right when she said, there are no more quality films anymore! Why not pair De Niro and Streep in a spectacular drama tear-jerker of the century! ❤❤❤
