      Totes. He's a killer comedian and doesn't need to feel intimidated by these people, ef 'em if they can't laugh. As professionals, if they've made it this far without learning how to laugh at themselves, that's a sad commentary on the fragility of each and every one of them as people.

    I like the Oppenheimer jokes and the Swift joke, but I didn't care for the Barbie joke. He was not mean to Taylor. Not mean at all. She acted like a middle school girl. I didn't like it when Jo got defensive. He should have kept right on going without apology. He does seem like a very nice guy, which is more than I can say about Robert Downy, Jr.

    You know what's really funny and a bright positive news? The part where Jo Koy was in St. Louis, Missouri, where he did his first stand up gig since hosting the Golden Globes and called out Hollywood and woke society Marshmallows becuase they are soft, Jo Koy got a massive cheers and standing ovation from the audience and laughing. Another funny but cool moment is when a audience got up and said F***'em (referring to the haters) it was also in the news headlines, 1. Golden Globe Awards - CBS - Host: Jo Koy - 9.47 million viewers.
    2. Emmy Awards - Fox - Host: Anthony Anderson - 4.3 million viewers.
    3. Critics Choice Awards - CW - Host: Chelsea Handler - 911 thousand viewers.
    It seems that Jo Koy got the last laugh on all haters, Jo Koy thanked the fans and said you make me happy, and wasn't happy for four days. As The Joker from The Dark Knight says It's a funny world we live in

  • @lynx2cross
    @lynx2cross 6 месяцев назад +10

    It’s not that it takes months to write jokes and a monologue, you need that time to rehearse several times and revise and rewrite and you get feedback as many times comics will stop by a comedy club and run some of their jokes with a audience, that’s how they develop their material and weed out the jokes that don’t work and keep using the ones that do. Because if you don’t have enough time for that creative process to happen you end up with the results of something that was rushed and done in 2 weeks, probably same amount of time a group of writers can write a mediocre comedy sitcom with dumb one liners.

    • @cedricduyongco
      @cedricduyongco 6 месяцев назад

      And take note, these jokes were specific to certain personalities. Unlike his typical stand up comedy gigs where he is joking to the public. His crowd here has their own personalities, political beliefs, image, etc. And to cap it off, he went half-in on his jokes/roast. It's as if he is afraid to offend the audience full of powerful Hollywood personalities.
      And like what some have said, he is a relative nobody compared to his audience.
      It really is a tough gig. And 4 hours would be enough prep time if you are making jokes to a comedy bar or to a TV set (meant for the public), but 10 days is not enough when your audience are personalities who you are making the jokes about.

    I think his delivery was one of the reasons his jokes didn't land and if you're going to roast celebs at the Golden Globes then you have to really go for it. Ricky Gervais is one example. He simply doesn't care about offending anyone. Jo was practically apologising and at times, it seemed too half-hearted. The Taylor joke wasn't even mean. He just made it sound meaner than it was, especially when he apologised.

    • @marsoh6102
      @marsoh6102 6 месяцев назад +2

      I don’t think it’s the delivery. I think because he is a fish out water. Vibe was like “we don’t know you, you are not one of us and we are not letting you have it. If the audience have laughed I guarantee you tv viewers will go with it and laugh. It will change the narrative. Most of those presenters delivered awful and more terrible jokes but audience did not care and just laughed and we just didn’t care.🤷‍♀️

    • @cedricduyongco
      @cedricduyongco 6 месяцев назад +2

      He went half in, that's why some of the deliveries failed. It was as if he was intimidated by the crowd. Which he should be since these are not his typical crowd, these are a bunch of A listers and the who's who of Hollywood. His jokes where the celebrities rolled along were better. And if the crowd had just been a bit less serious, then the monologue would have been better as Jo Koy would have built up confidence and the delivery wouldn't have been with hesitation.

The new layout has seating on three sides of the stage almost in the round and I think it caused these professional to be just a bit more uptight knowing that they were on camera more. This might be a factor in Jo falling off. Also there were a lot of new comer’s in the room that maybe didn’t know what to do. Old school A listers like MS and RD were playing along with Jo. He wasn’t funny, that’s all. Nobody laugh about anything nor in the room or at home. And now we have your usual trolls, Koy fans butt hurled that their idol did a terrible job, I guess they’ll be more pissed when they found out that Chelsea was really harsh but funny tonight hahaha

      You know what's real funny? The part where Jo Koy was in St. Louis, Missouri, where he did his first stand up gig since hosting the Golden Globes and called out Hollywood and woke society Marshmallows because they are soft, Jo Koy got a massive cheers and standing ovation from the audience and laughing. Another funny but cool moment is when a audience got up and said F***'em (referring to the haters) it was also in the news headline

      @@tovolume You know what's "reallly" funny?, the part where you get so salty confronted with the truth that he wasn't funny at all, that's why he hasn't stop his apologies tour, blaming his own writers and the time for simply not being funny hahahah the society of his fans a bunch of marshmallows like you that are soft hahaha
      You know what's "reallly" funny?, the part where you have copy paste this same comment a dozen of times hahaha so you are either Koy or just a marshmallow that Koy F**ks because he send you to defended him hahaha, so laughable to see the headlines of his terrible and unfunny hosting gig and of the salty marshmallow fans that are slaves of the unfunny guy hahaha

    I heard from another channel that the legendary Jack Nicholson warned Chris Rock before he hosted the Academy to be careful because he's entering a room full of losers. Let's face it they just don't appreciate if a nobody is roasting them. Their egos are telling them that this nobody is using me to be famous. At the end of the day even a tasteless bad joke is only a stupid joke. Come.on this intellectual shit.about the barbie joke is sexist. Feminist started criticizing Barbie as a masochistic doll.
    I.saw.the performance on RUclips and I must admit it's not great. His timing was off ànd he keeps on double backing because of it. The are not offensive but the crowd just decided that they don't want this wannabee
    To Jokoy, more power man this experience will only make you grow. Go out of your comfort zone so you can complete your crossover.

    Joes biggest mistake was not committing to the jokes. He shouldve said them, committed and if they laugh or get offended have the same reaction and move on to the next. You cant be giving a crap. He seemed to worried about hurting his movie career because he knows how the industry works. Offend the wrong person and hello black list. You cant care about that. The jokes were played far too safe. The fact that Swift was offended by one of hte most vanilla jokes ive ever heard just tells me she needs to get that huge stick out of her cornhole. I mean seriously? I thought he had made a joke about her dating history. Jo will be fine but i think between this and his horrible christmas movie he wont be doing any movies any time soon.

    Many important things. Let me just add one aspect: The major difference between Koy and other "daring" hosts is AUTHENTICITY. Let's compare him to *Ricky Gervais* for a second (cause that's what some have been doing these days). Ricky's got it, Jo does not. The way Gervais served his punchlines at the Golden Globes was always on point, so if not funny, at least it was well-served. And though I myself didn't always enjoy wach of his controversial bits, I will pay credit to two things, namely his cool, self-reliant manner of hosting, and the level of substance in many of his arguments, especially vis-à-vis Hollywood's most double-faced magnates... Gervais always learned the room, was always well-prepared and -organized, always superior and on top of things, and knew exactly what he wanted to say (for whoch purpose I'm pretty sure he wrote most of his own jokes). Koy didn't even seem to know if he wanted to kod around or make an actual critical point (since he clearly hadn't written many of the "jokes"), making him neither reliable nor relatable. 🤷🏻‍♀️ And as you've mentioned, the most problematic part of it all was Koy's *immediate show of frustration.* As you've said, the Taylor Joke was actually fine and the woman just can't take a joke (that wasn't even directed at her but at the NFL), yet he served it so cringy-ly and immediately apologized for it... WWWHHHYYY?! 🤦🏽‍♀️
    Perhaps hosts like Gervais are just more intelligent comedians and/or experienced award show hosts. Maybe a man like Gervais is more confident in his own skin criticizing celebrities into their faces. Maybe he just had more time to prepare for each of his five Golden Globes monologues, meaning he wasn't so stupid to take a prestigious live gig ten days in advance (which no self-respecting entertainer would). Eitherway, he was always authentic! One time, Gervais even said "Shut up, I don't care.", whereas Koy... partly begged the audience to cut him some slack, partly apologized to them, partly blamed the entire room for his failing... 😬 ... Obviously, those hosting gigs are a hard task to accomplish, but in the end, we gotta say out loud that Koy also wasn't the man for the job. And the fact that he has since seeked rescue in that victim role makes him appear even less authentic and superior. I think he would be wise to take Kevin Hard's advice and not make the disaster even bigger that way, but to try and let it pass by.

    Joe Rogan describes a joke as a plant that needs to time and effort to grow into maturity. Which is why joke theft is such a big deal.
    It has to be tested live on stage, the timing, the cadence, the wording, lots of other adjustments before it goes from premise to killer joke. These jokes had some good premises but the jokes were not matured and ready, time was a factor.
