I basically see it as the ultimate corporate gig.
Totally agree
I met jo koy a couple times. Super nice dude. I think he just freaked out and didn’t know what to do. Hes a big comedian but not a hollywood socialite
😂 the "will smith slapping jo koy" line killed me 😅
That "would've redeemed himself" ❤
Then Mulaney did the Governer's Ball and crushed. He is perfect for that gig. He will probably end up hosting the Oscars.
definitely love low ratings!
Mulaney is a natural. He has a perfect mix of old school hollywood and new stand-up comedian humor. That monologue was perfect
Yeah, but John is a serious drug addiction comedian. I don't think at this point in his career he would do a Hollywood gig like this. He doesn't need to and the only real thing he could earn is risk to his reputation. Why? Lol. The event isn't an event for comedians because Hollywood doesn't have humor anymore. It's really that simple. Stop getting comedians to do shows for people that don't understand comedy in general.
Also, I wanna point out as someone that's dated a woman with alopecia. Wills wife does not have that shit. She would be BALD bald. Not buzz cut bald, but bald af. She wouldn't have hair at all. My ex was 20 and she had to shave her head and wore beanies religiously. People in Hollywood are assholes that think they're some how more special than regular people. It's why none of them can handle regular problems lol
People are realizing how much he sucks now
@qcrew2938 still selling out all jokoy show!
I love how you got 2 top pros talking about a national Bomb set. Interesting discussion.
Love having their wisdom on this. Calling Taylor Swift the most vindictive person on the planet is so funny too.
Jo Koy went out like a punk blaming everyone but himself!
I just noticed the Tony Soprano painting in the background 😆
Saw Jo Koy. Not surprised he bombed
I just learned you were two different people.
The 8 minutes really flew by, I thought I just started this and it was already over
I thought the shot at his writers was not cool, especially “the ones that I wrote are the ones you’re laughing at”. That made him super unlikeable…why do those shows need to be roasts anyway? I kinda get why the audience would be cold when someone theyve never heard of is taking unprovoked shots at them.
That was a joke. Lmao
@@marsohlala did you watch?!
@@lilyabrams3292 of course. Get a grip.
@marsoh6102 one in poor taste. You don't rift live on TV they say. As he insults the people he paid to write for him. If it went well, he would have been... I'm such a good comic....
@@randylogan4339 he can joke about the actors but not the writers? His job is to talk about everyone
Ricky Gervais wrote the playbook for how to handle the Golden Globes. Yes, it can be a roast. 🔥
This video was incredible and had a perfect flow. Great job ❤
Will Smith coming out of nowhere and slapping Joe might have solved all the world's problems!
Or at least put Will back in everyone’s good graces.
😂😂😂
In another dimension chris rock kicks him in the balls.
They’re too nice to say it but Jo Koy is not a funny guy, what an odd choice to begin with, and then throwing his writers under the bus made me lose the tiny bit of respect I had for him
They basically did say it in a respectful but subtle way: “he still has HIS fans, he’ll be fine” - implies he is only known and considered funny by HIS fans, unable to really make any new ones. “He’s a killer, he’s done [large theater]” - never once saying he’s a killer because of his act, literally just referring to the fact that he plays to big audiences , which we all know means nothing - plenty of shit comics have grown a large, yet isolated audience that they’ve been able to hold onto and fill large venues with. There were a few other things but I def caught those as subtle non-compliments lmao
I have to agree with those two guys, and remember comedy is subjective, Jo Koy has been in the business for a long time, and sold out arenas for many years, anyone who kept saying who is he? they don't bother researching about Jo Koy or watch or go to his shows, that's their problem
There is no reason for Taylor Swift to be upset about that joke. I heard it and couldn't see how it was offensive at all. It was as innocent as they come. That says something about her if she is offended. How would you like to be slapped like Chris Rock? That's offensive.
I'm pretty confident it's the Swift fans that are blowing it out of proportion. All she did was just not laugh, which isn't a big deal and she's obviously allowed to not find a joke funny. People on every side of this are just blowing it out of proportion.
@@libbyonthalabel you're probably right.
@@user-fu1ss4eo6cWhere’s this same energy towards Ryan Gosling?
Of course Ricky was brilliant but Tiny and Amy were also funny and loved by the crowd.
I didn't think it was a cancel moment just the pervasive stink of a highly visible live set that flopped.
You guys are my two favorite comics right now, so seeing you guys in a podcast together is awesome
Ricky Gervais was great, the five different times he hosted. I also miss Joan Rivers on the red carpet.
Ricky has hosted 5 times.
Gaffigan was a masterclass that night
People never apologized for how tough the gig is when Gervais did it.
Really smart, insightful commentary on this bomb. I appreciate the perspective!
I haven’t been in college for a few years, is it still that bad?
mark normand would do a great job all he thinks of is one liners like his oppenheimer joke he thought of for it.
Imagine Louis C.K. hosting this? Lmao
Any press is good press
Throwing the writing team under the bus was definitely a bad move but it was also a defense mechanism so I kinda get it. Everyone bombs he just did so at an unfortunate moment.
So his defense mechanism is blaming others, good to know.
@@paxapunch2708okay St. Nicholas
Jo Koy is hilarious
Usually. His globes monologue was indeed a stinker lol.
nailed it
i don’t understand why people are upset and laser focused at taylors reaction all she did was take a sip of her drink lol? the joke jo koy made has been beaten to the ground she doesnt, and anyone for that matter, has to find it funny. literally no one in the audience laughed bc 1. who tf in hollywood is tapped into the nfl like that? cillian murphy is not gonna give a fuck abt a joke abt american football 2. those who do get it have heard it 4785738 times. jo koy was bad and uninspired throughout the whole show. a last resort for the golden globes. it’s obvious
Great take on the globes.
Just noticed that’s the Tony Soprano pathing in the background
Oh shit🤣
I actually thought the TS joke was pretty good. And true!
It's not that complicated. Ricky showed us how to do it.
You don't play to the room, you play to the camera.
1. Golden Globe Awards - CBS - Host: Jo Koy - 9.47 million viewers.
2. Emmy Awards - Fox - Host: Anthony Anderson - 4.3 million viewers.
3. Critics Choice Awards - CW - Host: Chelsea Handler - 911 thousand viewers.
It seems that Jo Koy got the last laugh on all haters, not only that he did his first stand up gig in St. Louis Missouri since hosting the Golden Globes and Jo Koy was surprised he got a massive cheers and standing ovation from the crowd and roared in laughter at his jokes. One cool funny moment is the audience said F***'em (referring to the haters), Jo Koy thanked the fans and said you make me happy, and wasn't happy for four days. As The Joker from The Dark Knight says It's a funny world we live in
While you do make some valid points, the comparison you began with is, unfortunately, extremely flawed.
First, Critics Choice is nowhere as high profile an award show as Golden Globes.
So yes Critics Choice had less viewers than Golden Globes but this was actually their largest audience ever in their 29 year history. Golden Globes, on the other hand, got more viewers than last year but still saw one of the smallest audiences ever.
Same thing with Emmys. Golden Globes always get higher ratings than Emmys. Plus, Emmys this year had to take a hit because it was held on Monday and at the same time as NFL playoffs as well as the Iowa Republican Caucus coverage.
So again, you made some solid points, but you led with a flawed supporting evidence.
Thank God I’m not the Only one who thought that was a Terrible Host
The only way to fix it is to have shane next year
4:00 the people who go away are those that depend on others to work like actors. Comedians don’t need anyone
1:30 That’s why Billy Crystal was a perfect host. Everybody likes Ricky Gervais, but his stuff isn’t sustainable. It was great at the time, but it can’t be every year. Crystal rode that line of teasing, but respectful. That’s the gig.
I think Chris Rock is also great. He's hosted the Oscar 2x, the MTV VMAs 3x, the Billboard Music Awards, and the BET Awards. I agree w/ you on the Gervais one. It's clear he doesn't want to be there so he'd only do it for the attention if he were to go a second time. The first time was great bc he took everyone by surprise. Chris Rock on the other hand has great roast jokes while at the same time looking as if he belongs w/ the celebrities. He's neither sucking up to them nor is he purposely showing hate towards them.
One of the weird things about the Gervais job was that he always looked like an insider to me but the Golden Globes gig aligned himself w/ the outsiders and stand-up crowd afterwards.
@@kawaiiafangirl Absolutely!
Mark Normand has two untapped talents (Voice, Looks) - Sports announcer (Golf or baseball; nothing with high action). And 80's comedy character actor a la Weekend at Bernie's.
I'm surprised the guys didn't touch on it, but the part of all this that's barely been mentioned by anybody is that actors seem to be kind of uptight and thin-skinned in general. So it isn't surprising that jokes from a "stranger" who isn't part of their little fraternity would fall kind of flat, no matter how good or bad those jokes were. If it had been someone like Jimmy Kimmel (for example) that they know and like telling the same jokes I guarantee the reaction from the crowd would have been a lot different.
Gervais the only one with big enough cojones to do this event right
I'm so confused; do male musicians not write love songs?
What about Adele, Kelly Clarkson, and Pink that have all written divorce albums? That's not the same as Taylor Swift writing a break up song?
Ugh. I remember when I found Mark Normand- I thought his humor was so cutting edge.
5 years later it's just "why don't women act like men?" And "why can't we make jokes?" over and over and over and over... Yawn😪
Gaffigan would be a great host. Conan O'Brien would be good as well
I really think catering to just a single type of audience will make you soft. I'm Filipino born and raised and even I roll my eyes at Jokoy's jokes sometimes. His sets are so Filipino-centric that if he's not pandering to his people he's dead in the water. Out of everything that came out that night a throw away Taylor Swift joke hit paydirt.
100% anyone that caters to race or all race jokes such as Russell Peter's I feel it really makes them weaker at the end of the day
Who makes Mark’s shirt? Anyone know the brand?
Banana Republic
Nervous to laugh? I'd rather be dead
I thought John Mulaney did a masterful job at hosting these gigs
Joke Koy....
Jo Koy is funny however he’s a Filipino comedian with a HUGE Filipino fan base. He has a generic fan base in America and an entire country (Philippines) backing him up.
I don't know a non Filipino that thinks he's really funny.
@@b.r3228 really? dont you know whoopi or kevin hart? Oh probably thats not shown in the Taylor Swift world aka snowflake world where you live lol
Seems every comedian knew it would be a shit gig except Jo Koy. Wonder if he thought about it while cashing the check.
Jo Koy isn't funny, he falls in a category of comedians who get a following of stupid people who think they are funny even though they are not, these are just facts.
Mark speaking truth. I used to love Taylor but after 3 albums of complaining about men...I thought maybe she's the problem...
Don’t most popular musicians sing about their relationships? Men keep dating her knowing what she writes her songs about. 😂
@@emilyk6510 I'll assume you're a teen.
@@kevinathans4191 I’m 36. How old are you?
@emilyk6510 I'm your age, my mistake. But no, most musicians don't have 3 albums about how men screwed them over. Way different than singing about normal relationships. What kind of woman doesn't have a normal relationship until they are mid 30s?
“We talk a lot about cancelling and stuff… but people never really go away”
Slow clap for the comedians finally starting to understand there never was a cancel culture at all, they just spent years talking endlessly about something that isn’t even real.
The people don’t disappear, but the job opportunities do. Cance culture doesn’t kill you, it just makes it impossible to work
@@larslee5341 which comedians have lost work due to saying offensive jokes?
@@Oogidahboogidahyou’re looking at it from the top down. It’s way harder to get opportunities for edgier comics finding their feet.
@@Tommy-hq9ww that is not what anyone has ever meant when they crap on about imaginary “cancel culture”
0:00 best segue ever
how is Jo not 'joke' people?
You could have given Mark the same material and he would have done way better.... because he's way funnier and way more likable
I thought Jo Koys opening jokes were good except a couple. The audience was just lame so it made it seem like he wasn't funny. The rest of the show was pretty bad though.
Mark would be such an amazing host for a huge awards show like that, especially if he just stuck to his style and just powered through it. The celebs might hate it and have no clue what's going on, but I'm sure the audience would love it.
Yea but Gaffigan hit a grand slam with the World!
Taylor Swift is a highly recognizable force, her story is a thing to be inspired by and her music is actually good. There is no problem with being a fan, but it is undeniable at this point that bunches of Swifties are making the entire fanbase look like fucking tools.
Sam gives him great advice letting him know it’s great self deprecation material but Jo koy is such a ego maniac he would never
So old.
Everyone's stealing from Ricky Gervais
😂
It was funny. Jo will be fine.
Comics don't get cancelled they just go back to their core base fans 😉
Jo koy was terrible. Hopefully he never works again after this.
Look - it’s simple. Any guy who willingly gets anywhere Chelsea Handler, a radically unfunny neo-lesbian old bag, is going to be a train wreck. Glad I didn’t waste anytime watching the disaster.
these two thinking kids are afraid to laugh shows they are out of touch. some things arent funny to certain people.
MARK I want to support you but you need to come to CT or MA! Also please fire whoever is in charge of your merch and reach out to me cause I have some way better ideas that I think would actually sell much better for you.
Joy koy is cringe.
normands got alotta HATE
I thought JK was great!
He didn't even bomb! what the hell are you guys talking about? Also the stage was much different than usual, he was performing in the round. It was just a really bad crowd. But not even, he got a bunch of laughs! I don't understand what the big fuss is about here.
jo koy sucked!!!this is what happens when nobody famous wanted the gig!!!!
Jo Koy isn't funny.... the jokes were poorly written and he performed them poorly
JoKoy will survive this. He is just another Netflix away to rebound. Tylor Swift on the other hand is a 34 yo and it does not get better from here. Note; he is not the only hosts that blamed the writers. Eddie Murphy, Dennis Miller did too..
Jo should’ve just not taken the gig, was set up to fail and got famous without the true help of Hollywood. Makes it seems like he still wants in their gay club.
It was a win win for him, get more people knowing your name with the excuse of “Hollywood doesn’t like these jokes” or throwing your writers under the bus or I only had 10 days. Vs actually just not having a funny set but he knows comics will have his back
@@A62119 that’s my point though, he’s already famous enough to do massive venues even before this. He clearly cared about bombing by throwing the writers under the bus so people who don’t know him now just know him for bombing and as a fan I just view it as him still trying to be part of gay Hollywood. Plus if he does a bit about this that doesn’t end up being that funny then this whole thing was for nothing because people won’t give him a chance again after this that didn’t know him.
@@RedBernie I wish it were true but people will watch now and be on his side because “Hollywood isn’t ready for jokes”. It’s sad he put down the writers and I’m glad these guys said that
@@A62119 yea I should’ve said I agreed with that point, my bad. I guess we shall see what happens 🤘
Oh, damn! Didn’t Sam used to be skinny?!
Please stop talking about the Willy gettin Jiggy as if it weren’t staged. It makes you a party to whole nonsense.
Podcasters and youtubers milking in this issue for clicks🤮🤮🤮
3 things Host must not do that is a recipe for disaster:
1) Never, never, never, joke about TS or even at her expense even if the joke is about something else, lest you offend the White throng of the Swifty Fan Freak Army for hurting the feelings of their Mother Queern.
2) Do not offend White wholesome people by making supposedly disgusting jokes about Barbie
3) DO NOT DISPARAGE WHITE PEOPLE by joking about how they STOLE EVERYTHING even though it's true
P.S. wrong move throwing your Writers under the Bus even though their the ones responsible for your demise.
Come to think of it Gervais was more Brutal than this guy but everyone seems to be praising him because it's okay for a White guy to joke about and disparage other White people.
But in the end whether you become a hit or not, hated or praised, I'll certainly be laughing all the way to bank with a 6-figure payday!
Golden Globes was all about antiwhitism and 💩 woke jokes. But, don’t expect much when you’re “Blue”.
You’re embarrassing yourself
Golden Globes already did that.
There was no call for doing his tired ass mom voice, so Koy bombed.
Damn he's still doing that?! 😅
he wasn't able to Dat Phan it?
Normand sucks. Does he know he's not even a real person?
