    When writing a joke, your intent should be to make the audience laugh. If your intent first and foremost is to offend, then you’re more than likely just writing an offensive statement. The best way to write a joke about something dark/offensive is to make sure it makes the people it’s about laugh. A good domestic violence joke should make victims of the issue laugh, rather than sound like something your drunk uncle would say at Thanksgiving.

He put the joke right at the front of the special where the most people (including people who aren’t into that style of comedy) would see it and 3. It wasn’t honestly that good of a joke pretty much set him up for failure.

    My theory is that he either explicitly wants more men at his shows. Is sick of the fuckboy image and put out a sub par Netflix special almost as a fuck you. Dude is rich af, he’s not getting cancelled. And as a comic it must suck to get stereotyped and heckled by women every show when you’re building an act. Maybe his career benefits from a few years of more men at his shows. Also, dude is loaded and is a real comic w/ an ego - you wanna be funny and gain the respect of your peers.

    • @nikolalangov6084
      @nikolalangov6084 7 месяцев назад

      The problem is he hasn't been funny to get more men to watch him. Women will always go watch a sexy comic, that's how even Dane Cook had a run as one of the best selling stand-ups out there. The problem with Cook and now Rife is they let the quantity of ticket sales get in the way of the quality of their material and therefore the quality of their audience. If he was really that unhappy, Rife could've pulled a Chappelle and went underground to reinvent himself. But he was too in love with his paycheck and lifestyle, so he continued with the tried and true method of hacky jokes. So even if he gets some attention due to controversy, that won't bring him new quality fans, because he just isn't very good at this stage in his career. Some poor souls might make the mistake to buy tickets for him once, just to see what the fuss is about. But if he doesn’t manage to turn them into fans, it's over for him.
