I am definitely getting one. I will also use it for some light off-roading and hauling. I loved the early 2000s Pathfinders. This one gives me some of those vibes unlike the last few years’ models.
Although I love the styling of the Murano (I feel like it kicked off the mainstream crossover styling), I think it's time to cut it from the lineup and swap in a new Xterra that would slot in nicely between the Rogue and Pathfinder to compete in the off-road/overlander space.
Which murano are we talking about? The first gen? Either way love both the first and second gen for unexplainable reasons. The 3rd one is so bland to me though
I think there is a place for the murano, but it needs to be spiced up a little bit, maybe the 290hp or the 306hp 3.5 v6 instead of the 260hp. Put a torque converter auto into it, slightly bigger brakes, adaptive suspension that can handle pretty decently for a crossover but still be reasonably comfortable. So basically a properly sporty crossover without having the price of an x3m or gle43. I agree the xterra needs to be brought back, and of course Nissan pulled the plug on it literally a year before suvs started selling record numbers lol.
Amazingly, Nissan sells an Xterra in Asia (called just the Terra) that would do incredibly well in our market given the push for off-road SUVs. However due to truly terrible product planning and development, it’s not offered here. One of the biggest misses of any automaker today.
Doug usually trashes Nissan and Infiniti cars so much that I'm shocked his review didn't consist of him dropping a deuce on the front seat and calling it a day. Also surprising he doesn't know that Nissan had Pathfinder hybrid version in 2014 but they dropped it due to low sales.

Doug, ceiling mounted vents are a plus, not a negative! I've ruled out so many SUVs because they have center-mounted rear air it's not even funny. It’s funny that he complains about the ceiling vents in the second row, but this feature is actually a huge plus for families with kids in rear facing car seats! The center vents fail to get good air flow to the kiddos whos car seat is blocking that center stack, while ceiling vents make it so those kiddos get good air too! So Nissan is actually designing this vehicle with families in mind! 😊

Weird. The old one was sold under the name "Terrano" where I grew up, in Germany. My parents owned what must have been the 1988 model, the one with the triangular window, from the old ad Doug shows at the beginning of the video. I was having the hardest time finding pictures of that thing. If it was sold under a different name in the USA, that explains why. SUVs were still rare in Germany and Europe in general back then and I doubt that they sold many under that differing name in that much smaller market.
Nah, the Terrano was not the Pathfinder. Terrano was another SUV built by Nissan. After the Terrano was dropped, they launched the X-Trail. Pathfinder is more like the predecessor of the Patrol, although I think they overlapped for a few years.
@@euteo Don't ask me why, but in Germany they definitely sold that exact car from that old ad, with the triangular window and the 3 distinctive slits in the front under the name "Terrano". That is the name under which my parents bought it. That was what stood in the car's papers. That is what the badge on the back said and that is what was printed on the cover for the spare tire. I myself drove the thing. My parents still had it when I turned 18 and got my own driver's license and I had to lift their huge dog up on the tailgate to take it for walks. So this is no nebulous, dim early childhood memory that I could confuse. Also, when learned the American name and was finally able to google pictures for it more successfully, even with using the "Pathfinder" search term, I still found a bunch of pictures that are named Terrano. So if I'm imagining things, I'm not the only one with that particular delusion, lol.
@@euteo The Terrano name was used on Pathfinders for the first three generations. It's confusing though because they also used the name on non-Pathfinders. You are thnking of the Terrano II which was followed by the X-Trail.
TrangleC, your right, the Pathfinder and Terrano of 88-95 are the same car, I live in Central America were the official imported cars by Nissan dealer are called Terrano, but the cars imported from USA are Pathfinders, in my family we have a Pathfinder 1995 and my neighbor have one Terrano, and be the same car (here he chose with Diesel engine, pathfinder only have gas engine ) The Pathfinder have more extras from factory than Terrano BTW, that’s why imported from USA are nicer
@@euteo you are really wrong, the terrano and the pathfinder are the same vehicle, just named different for different markets, in japan it's called the terrano, the X-trail is a completely different vehicle, and the patrol is like the oldest nissan (like the toyota land cruiser), there is the pathfinder wd21, r50, r50 facelift 99.5-04, r51, the mallfinder r52, and now this, the sort of pathfinder, imo it should be like the 4runner but well...

I bought a pathfinder a couple years ago after checking out all the rivals, and the pathfinder had the best mix of value and room. I have 3 kids and there's a TON of space for all of them. Great family vehicle. No cvt problems yet (knock on wood) and I've been really happy with the car. The pathfinder is really an underrated vehicle if you're looking for a roomy family hauler.
I’m one of the few that loves the old Pathfinder as much as the new one. I’ve got 197,000 miles on my 2017 SL and all I’ve ever replaced was brakes, belts, and oil changes. When you drive 40-50k miles a year, the Pathfinder is extremely comfortable. I’ll likely trade in the 2017 for a 2022 in a few months after inventory levels recover.
Personally I don't see it wanting to be "rugged", it looks way more elegant, the lines are clean and the panels are nicely glossy. Looks more like they are going more for a CX-9 competitor in that way.
The infortainment looked pretty responsive to me also most people set up everything the way the want it and rarely play around with it anyways.you are way off about the looks, it looks amazing.
I like how he's says "there's no dedicated home screen" whilst constantly pressing the button to go to the dedicated home screen... that can also be configured to show anything you need it to - phone, nav, audio, etc
Noticing the stitch pattern on the seats. It reminds me of the weave pattern on a Samurai sword. And I've always thought that the Nissan front chrome U-shape/design has been emulating a Samurai helmet. Nice touch Nissan.
Idk about everyone wanting the Telluride. I’d much rather have the Palisade. Luxurious exterior with an interior that puts even the Telluride to shame.
I think with most people who like the Telluride over the Palisade (myself included, only by a little bit) is because of the Tellurides sort of unique look. The side profile is more unique than the palisade which seems like another standard 3 row. Not knocking it however. It’s still one of my favorite suvs on the market.
I wouldn’t have considered a Pathfinder before but Nissan did a great job. Theres a lot of practicality. I love the flip forward second row that is car seat friendly. That’s one of my biggest gripes with my Telluride. Actually, the x7 and GLS should incorporate a similar mechanism- it’s so much more practical than waiting a minute for a power seat to slowly operate
I never understood what old guys meant when they said "All cars today look the same" until now. And I'm only 19. They really do all look exactly the same now.
I disagree. There are design elements that are appearing on each type of vehicle, but there’s literally no resemblance between a Pathfinder and a CX-9, for just one example. Frankly, that saying is just a lazy way of saying “I don’t like how vehicles are styled these days”
all 50s cars had similar design trends all 60s cars had similar design trends all 70s car had similar design trends all 80s cars had similar design trends all 90s cars had similar design trends all 00s cars had similar design trends
Looks like a cross between a GMC TERRAIN and a Hyundai palisade... Looks good though. The pathfinder from the early to mid 90s is the best looking still in my opinion
I recently bought a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander which is super similar to this car some parts are even the exact same. I paid around $10k less than this car would cost. The only large difference is the Outlander has 194 hp even on the max trim. People who would consider buying this Nissan seriously need to know about the 2022 Outlander as well IMO
Outlander only has 181 hp, shares the same engine with the Rogue, no towing capacity and the 3rd row is puny, I work at a Nissan dealership and even our 6ft reps can sit behind other 6 ft people “comfortably” in the 2nd and 3rd row. I do like the Mitsubishi styling tho
Completely missed the fact that the transmission changed away from CVT to normal shifting and fuel economy increased dramatically. Nissan engines, especially V6 are made in Decherd TN and are the best.
Hi! Doug, you can customize what you want to see in the main screen. I have a Qashqai and I have in the main screen map, radio and a couple of buttons to stuff I used the most. :)
The two best SUVs in the mid size would be the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder and the Toyota Highlander. It would be the matter of taste. Both are excellent. I went for the 2022 Pathfinder Platinum 4WD with full options. Excellent. I liked it the best between them all. For the off road, it is more of a light duty off road vehicle. Excellent for snow storms and rough roads. It is by far NOT an all terrain or heavy duty off road vehicle. If you want something all terrain there is the Rubicon with the extended off road options, or the equivalent on some other brands. As for a quiet and smooth ride the new Pathfinder is ideal. Very comfortable. I found for power and handling it is very adequate for an SUV. I am very satisfied with it. I took an extended service contract for it. As for how it drives, it is more like a big Murano. If you have driven the Murano the Pathfinder is like driving a large Murano. It is 2.5 inches wider, bit longer, and about 2 inches higher than the Murano. It is more boxy and thus the blind spots are different. With the modes, I found the ECO mode gives about 5% to 7% improvement in fuel economy. The SPORT mode allows for more aggressive acceleration. SPORT mode allows the transmission to work in higher ratios, and allows for richer fuel burning. The higher gear ratios allow to keep the RPMs higher when accelerating making the engine work more in its higher torque range. I found best fuel economy and best overall performance is when using premium gasoline. The difference is very much noticed. I have a very light foot when driving. I mostly use the AUTO mode. The rear wheels engage when required. Excellent in snow and muddy roads. As for an SUV like this I believe it is a waste of money to buy this without the 4WD option. If you don't want 4WD you get better value in buying a regular type car or van, save cost, and have better trade in value when changing it for a newer model.
The Pathfinder was absolutely awesome when it came out in the late 80s. The new models (last 15 years) look just like everything else similar in its class
The way that Nissan works is that they make a car that is fantastic, class leading, innovative, and exciting and then they sell it for 15 years until it’s none of those things.

In the middle east (im in the UAE) , i've been seeing the x-terra everywhere! it's almost like a baby armada/patrol
The X Terra came out 2O years wayy too early
Doug usually trashes Nissan and Infiniti cars so much that I'm shocked his review didn't consist of him dropping a deuce on the front seat and calling it a day. Also surprising he doesn't know that Nissan had Pathfinder hybrid version in 2014 but they dropped it due to low sales.
New infinitis are neat
the thing I know about him complaining about Nissan and Infiniti is they just hadn't updated anything in almost a decade, the 370z being the biggest example I remember. Nissan actually putting some effort into making new cars can only be good
Nissan’s new cars are pretty good but they sell them for 12 years
I think he didn't mention it because it was cancelled, it clearly wasn't well marketed or any good if it didn't last
"Also surprising he doesn't know that Nissan had Pathfinder hybrid version in 2014 but they dropped it due to low sales."
You find it surprising he doesn't know something? He's just a person.
👱"So should we just use the standard 42 pt font for the rear Pathfinder emblem?"
👨"Absolutely not, let's go with the 200 pt font. I want people to be able to read it from a block away."

Doug, ceiling mounted vents are a plus, not a negative! I've ruled out so many SUVs because they have center-mounted rear air it's not even funny. please review one of the best Nissan’s ever made, the Infiniti FX50S

TrangleC, your right, the Pathfinder and Terrano of 88-95 are the same car, I live in Central America were the official imported cars by Nissan dealer are called Terrano, but the cars imported from USA are Pathfinders, in my family we have a Pathfinder 1995 and my neighbor have one Terrano, and be the same car (here he chose with Diesel engine, pathfinder only have gas engine )
The Pathfinder have more extras from factory than Terrano BTW, that’s why imported from USA are nicer

Love Nissan's comeback for this year
I wouldn’t have considered a Pathfinder before but Nissan did a great job. Theres a lot of practicality. I love the flip forward second row that is car seat friendly. That’s one of my biggest gripes with my Telluride. Actually, the x7 and GLS should incorporate a similar mechanism- it’s so much more practical than waiting a minute for a power seat to slowly operate
What I like the most in everything is originality.I want to see that car companies keep originality in all models.
I never understood what old guys meant when they said "All cars today look the same" until now. And I'm only 19. They really do all look exactly the same now.
Joint developed with the Mitsubishi outlander. Looks very similar from the back
They really do
I disagree. There are design elements that are appearing on each type of vehicle, but there’s literally no resemblance between a Pathfinder and a CX-9, for just one example.
Frankly, that saying is just a lazy way of saying “I don’t like how vehicles are styled these days”
all 50s cars had similar design trends
all 60s cars had similar design trends
all 70s car had similar design trends
all 80s cars had similar design trends

Looks like a cross between a GMC TERRAIN and a Hyundai palisade... Looks good though. The pathfinder from the early to mid 90s is the best looking still in my opinion
Missed the 3 slots in the grille as a throwback to the original Pathfinder
Also the 3 slots pays tribute to the earlier Nissan Hardbody pickup trucks
I love this pathfinder
Completely missed the fact that the transmission changed away from CVT to normal shifting and fuel economy increased dramatically. Nissan engines, especially V6 are made in Decherd TN and are the best.
I'm surprised Doug didn't point out the 3 spaces above the front grille, little throwback quirk.
I'm so glad two tones are coming back. Also I think it looks more like a GMC Acadia
As long as its a choice. A single color exterior is fine with me.
Hell yea NISSAN! Finally starting to get back on track. Now redesign the Maxima, Titan, and the Armada an add a normal trans and we're good!

Hi! Doug, you can customize what you want to see in the main screen. I have a Qashqai and I have in the main screen map, radio and a couple of buttons to stuff I used the most. :)
Finally the ditched that CVT .. with the 9 speed and naturally aspirated engine it should be great to drive ..
I love the new pathfinder it looks really nice imo.
They really classed it up in the interior. Trust me!
