@@Mr1forest remember that everyone grieves differently. where for you it might've been good and healing for u to go back to work, getting back in the gym and training might've been painful and difficult for Ellie. I think it's important to remember we all process grief differently. I know if I was Ellie I'd keep trying for the Olympics, but she needs to heal in her own way, and if gymnastics isn't a part of that, I think it's a perfectly reasonable decision

What a tragedy, my condolences to the Downie sisters. I really hope the one sister reconsiders. I lost my sister to cancer and honestly the hurt never goes away. You just learn to deal with it. Her brother would want her to continue.
So much tragedy all around the world touching so many different families, in various ways. Very sad to learn of the passing of their brother and I truly pray that the Downie family gain strength through this difficult time. I applaud Becky for still giving it a go but would truly understand if later on she decides she is not able to continue. Like them both and will miss Ellie at the games if indeed she does not attend.

Riley hurt herself May 22nd on the vault. Not quite sure she will qualify for the team, much too fragile. Most of those girls can’t deal with the International pressure and screw up immensely.
It's not just Chellsies first competition back, everyone keeps leaving out she legit has to qualify and get a certain score to go to nationals. I dont remember the specific score but she has to qualify it aint no free ride off of sentimentality from the past. Hope 2012 doesnt repeat. I think she can do it. If she hits.
They would let her petition in. The blowback would be huge if she isn’t given an opportunity to be there. Plus, she’s a money maker for the sport. They can “sell” the whole story and get more viewers. She’ll do well enough though. I believe in her.

Seriously? Even if she doesn’t make the team, seeing her get out there and do gymnastics again in her 30’s is amazing. I have a feeling she’s going to surprise everyone. Yes, there’s Biles and a field of other amazing competitors, but let’s not discount her until we’ve seen what she can truly do. I have a feeling she’s held back on a bit of what she can do than just the little snippets she’s posted on IG. One thing is for sure, it’s going to be one hell of a competition - US has such a deep field of competitors we could take three teams and possibly medal 1, 2, and 3. 3 may be a stretch but definitely 1/2.

I think "no foreign spectators" is a great policy, but it does make me somewhat sad for Suni Lee's dad who said he was fighting in physical therapy after his paralysis so that he could come to Tokyo to see her compete. That must be a crushing blow for him. Thoughts and prayers to the Downie family.

Firstly my condolences to the Downie family because that is just devastating news. But in terms of the U.S. Classic I'm primarily interested to see Morgan Hurd and Riley McCusker as they were the gymnasts that restored my faith in artistry returning to American gymnastics. I'm really interested to see Simone Biles beam programme because as it stands China are looking to take gold and silver. So it'll be exciting to see what she has up her sleeve. Then obviously I'm excited to see the return of Chellsie Memmel. As I'd like her to see what doing adult gymnastics as a way to keep fit can do for an elite comeback.

I have lost family still went to work took odd day for funeral's/bereavement but not compete in Olympics? Methinks she knows she won't get in
