The cool thing is 80% of that stuff can be bought in Croatian or Slovenian stores (and other Balkan countries, of course). Podravka is a huge company and they make great foodstuffs!
As Croatian I am really proud that you liked our MRE. Idk about other countries, but every single product you tasted is available for purchase in local stores. Made by same companies, with same quality just packaging is different. Kavabon is my favorite too :)
The fact that they use common available foodstuffs instead of specially prepared and overfortified military meals (that often taste downright nasty), has got to be a source of comfort and a morale booster for Croatia's Forces. Familiar foods they would eat in their homes and not mystery meats and dishes. Everything in the US MRE tastes like they dumped a whole bottle of One-A-Day Vitamins and Minerals into every course. Way more vitamins than even a soldier in combat needs.
The reason it's all so great is because most of it wasn't made specifically for MREs. The goulash and the narezak, for example, you can just buy in stores. And yeah, if that's a Kraš chocolate, you know that's top notch.
Ive watched a lot of these MRE vids and am surprised to find that what you would assume would be some 3rd world crap rations from certain countries turn out to be far and away better than what most US soldiers get.
Im a croat, i dont find my self living in a 3rd wolrd crap country...Also im a soldier, and im a navy cook/cls, i fed some americans that came on my boat for various NATO practice runs. EVERY single american was amazaed by our food, i kid you not, they come back with a cleaned plate looking can they get some more, any dish we make. Very nice people i must add, pleasure working with them.
some interesting info for you steve, btw thanks for reviewing our countries rations. All the products in the croatian ratpack are local products sold in the supermarket, especially the pate and gulaš made by podravka. the powdered drinks are called cedevita, very popular vitamin drink.
Nah, these are not looking as those from war days. They've changed biscuits. It wasn't just camo packaging that were "ramboish", you could use those as weapon if needed. They had texture of bathroom tiles.
I remember my dad bringing us rambo keks when he was in the army, we hated it and had it hiden throught our house to throw it when he goes back to the base. That was back in 2005. Dont think they still make them the same, or i hope they dont
PiratmitHolzbein I also find the videos so relaxing. You should look into ASMR. Tutorials and softly spoken videos like this with unpacking or cooking always set me off and I almost knock out. Helps when you're tired also.
Thank you Steve. For keeping the past alive and helping us to better understand what we could not be there for and for preserving things so that later generations may understand than as well. So once again thank you.
Those coffee candies looked so good I went looking for some on Amazon they were all sold out but found some very similar. I love coffee and candy so yum!

Most of these items we can get in the international section of Australian supermarkets too. Lots of Croatian origin people here downunder. I have that pate in my pantry!
I think Steve1989 is the only person on the planet that can say items in ANY mre are 'decadent'! :) love the video, glad I don't have to eat these daily for any length of time.
Crystallized honey is still more than edible. My SIL raises bees, so I am also knowledgeable, whether I want to be or not. If you warm it up a bit, it will smooth right out. I prefer honey to sugar whenever I can. NICE.
this looks delicious, i love that liver paté, you can pretty much get that from any store too, its amazing on any form of hot bread, spreading it on there so it gets slightly lukewarm
Well, Steve, the thing with honey is that if it's crystallized, it's probably real honey. If it's liquid and golden and perfect, it's likely mostly glucose. If it's real honey, it essentially lasts forever. They found some honey in Egyptian tumbs that was perfect. The only reason they don't include it in more rations is probably how sticky and annoying it is to clean. To fix crystallized honey, just warm it up for a bit.
A good friend of mine joined the military & when he came back home he brought some mres 2 try..they were Omelets with ham & I just remember them being disgusting but since I subscribed 2 ur channel you've most definitely opened & changed my mind!

Croatian MREs are just as good as their camouflage it appears. I love it.
I enjoy your videos everytime! they are relaxing to me and its interesting to see whats inside a military ration
Pls keep making these videos :)
I agree. The way Steve explains everything and gives more backstory, it takes you on a journey as he test the packs out.
Yeah, I agree. They are strangely relaxing. Your voice is soothing lol. No homo
I always find the whispering in ASMR videos to be really weird.

im Croatian and it means a lot to hera that our mre is that good to a man who has tried sooo many, thanks man

This ration definitely seems like it is made for an adult unlike MREs which always seem to be based on elementary school cafeteria food.
Great review.
More processed. Last longer in storage. MREs have to reach higher and more mobile defense area. From Iraq, to Nigeria and so on.

Crystallized honey is fine. Just microwave it and it will return to being liquid. Remember, honey is one of the only foods that don't spoil.
Honey can go bad if it's not stored properly, and if it stays crystalized for too long it can go bad, develop mold and bacteria.
