Nvidia is saying that the new RTX 3070 beats the RTX 2080 Ti at half the price, but is this true? I’ve compared both in games at 4K, 1440p and 1080p resolutions as well as content creator and compute workloads to see what the differences are.

@@DragonoftheDarknessFlame Dude I got a 3070 easy off Twitter
@@DragonoftheDarknessFlame Same here. In my country 'low tier ' (ventus, eagle) 3070 is like 20% more expensive than used 'premium' (consider aorus or rog strix there) 2080ti now. And that's if you can find a really good deal on 3070. Sure, it's newer, there's no risk it was used for mining or whatever, but still... less ram, overall worse performance. Absolutely not worth the money at that moment.

Well yes, but actually no

I think the 3070 should've been the one with 10Gb of Vram and the 3080 being the one with 12-16 Gb of vram.
Pretty grimy honestly, especially since Nvidia has quietly put out a new RTX 3080 with 12 Tflops
10GB would've made a pretty significant difference in 4K performance. I agree, shame they didn't up the VRAM tiers a bit.
That's because they know that the next gen games will soon require more than 8 GB and are trying to purposefully make those cards irrelevant for the near future
@AVLRECORDS it won't.
Fine wine was with older architectures.
Now it may get 5-10% faster but that's it.

This video was so fast but with much more information than other benchmarks videos.
GREAT WORK😁
Now in 2023, 2080 Ti became more future proof than a 3070 cuz of its vram amount
Nvidia always does this. when they release a 70 series card claim it to be faster than the 80ti that came before, on first glance it is. but when you test the cards more extensivley the ti card normally comes out faster. 980ti was faster than the 1070 1080ti was faster than the 2070. the 70 series card will eventually be faster but that is just due to drivers being more focused on the newer card.
That 8gb of memory is brutal though, games are beginning to come out that the 3070 is unplayable with high textures
What this test is missing is 1% or 0.1% lows, which is where true difference would most likely be, probably in favor of 2080Ti and in higher resolutions, because of more memory bandwitdth.
thanks for making these videos :)
I'm interested in base comparisons like this, since I'm also interested in the components that are in a PC, not the entire thing together.
Definitely agree with your point about reference vs AIB. Use the same AIB variant of the 3070 and you’ve got a valid comparison. I think this strongly implies that they’re basically equivalent.
Sir, do a separate review with RTX on/off with various RTX supported games. To show the difference in ray tracing performance.
I included one game as demonstration, don't really want to just do a whole video on ray tracing yet.
Hardware unboxed did this, no difference. Same hit.
@@chaywarburton3488 I see I thought there would be some improvement in ray tracing and dlss performance.

Ah yes i could clearly see the *30%* difference
Btw thanks for this amazing video! Keep it up!
It's so important to watch independent reviews lmao
Even if you compared same card, most AIB card will always 5-10% faster than Founders edition due to higher memory and core clock.
i was sad about this video till you got to the creator benchmarks. thanks, that's the only part i was interested in. now to find a video with a 3070 vs a amd cpu + radeon with the new expanded gpu performance, for rendering.
Thanks I always jump to content creators steps coz I have playstation that I do most gaming on. Great stuff Jarrod
Great vid and I subscribed after seeing your awesome Wintersun shirt immediately lol
Awesome work as usual! Really interesting results! Thanks for the video ! 👍
I am missing in that review the note, that the 2080 Ti´s generally overclock MUCH better than the 3070 (12% performance increase vs 5% performance increase). I am very missing a comparison between overclocked 3070 and overclocked 2080 Ti. Thats the only valid comparison for me and the only important buyers decision. I want to know the reachable maximum performance of the GPU, and not the performance what the manufacturer want you to have... But everything else: good job! Thanks!
When do u think next gen gpus will be available in laptops?
If so will they perform better or give same performance due to low watts
Usually the lower gen gpus go into laptops so it wouldn't get close to the 2080ti but they'll certainly still be good.
256-bit memory bus for 3070 and 352-bit memory interface on the 2080Ti so that would be helping 2080Ti win too.
I have a 3070FE and I love it. Everything I always wanted to do with high graphic gaming is now at my finger tips. Best $500 I ever spent and I am glad I waited instead of getting a 2070 super

LMAO no it is not. Take it from a former 2080ti owner now 3080 owner, it is well worth the upgrade. Just sell your used 2080ti for 900 like I did and buy a 3080 using nextgentech's discord which has stockbots. Well worth the upgrade and you don't have to lie to yourself

Bruh no. Just compare it with the GTX 1080 Ti. Its as fast as the RTX 2080 super(just a 10-15% difference). This thing only shows that the RTX 2080 Ti was really overpriced while having really less performance improvement.
I dont care about the fps difference at all, considering your getting literally the same performance or better at literally less than half the price.
Goodluck finding one.
Honestly, at this stage I really do not care as I cannot buy either of them in the UK. Terrible marketing by Nvidia. Great video though. No issues with your video.
Scalper ebay 3070 FEs are £600. Thats still £100 cheaper than a used 2080Ti although i hate the thought of handing my money to those guys which is why i have a 2080 super FE still

@SmashStomp Inc You forgot about Covid 19
@Daniel Chettiar just crazy demand and supply can't keep up. Luckily I snagged a 3070 a week after release
For anyone watching present day, yes buy the 2080ti its £300 cheaper on ebay and better
You have the best benchmark charts. THANKS
great content as usual.. Jarrod!!!
I want to understand testing methods....several other reviewers have the 3070 at par if not 1-2% ahead in all resolutions minus a couple games in 4k.
i think NVIDIA made a massive mistake using only 8GB of RAM on these cards, especially if you consider playing VR games. Although most games do work well with 8GB, some games like Half Life Alyx already use almost the full capacity of an 8GB card. I already get a low memory warning from Half Life on my 8GB 2070 SUPER. With more and new VR games coming out in the next couple of months 8GB will not be enough to even play those games properly on medium quality settings. If the VRAM runs out the game starts to stutter and produces glitches or in the worst case the screen goes black.
Oh lord how times change
I got an Asus 3070 for $530. Low VRAM, but I'm very happy with the price.
Hey @Jarrod'sTech any news on 3000 series for laptops?! Just waiting for that because wondering if I should get a new laptop in a few months or wait for 3000 series to come out? P.S. I did read your article on the topic and it was helpful but yeah caught between a rock and a hard place on this one...
At 1080p144Hz and 1080p60+ w/RTX On, will the three less gigabytes of VRAM matter between the two cards? I'm having a hard time finding a good secondhand deal on the 2080 Ti and am considering entering EVGA's queue for a 3070.
Thanks for making me feel good about buying the 2080 ti at a cheaper price than what the 3070 goes for in Singapore
How did you create a chart at 3:42? That looks awesome!!!
Differences can be attributed to games being developed during 2080 era
3070 FE vs Aorus 2080 ti ....
FE vs FE will have almost the same result.
Yeah it's not fair...
Now 3070 asus strix oc vs 2080ti FE just for fun !
It won't. The clock speeds wouldn't be way lower on the Fe and they barely impact the peformance, at higher resolutions especially. Just accept the 3070 is actually a tiny bit worse than 2080Ti across all resolutions, on average.
@@miguelb2747 There are videos of rtx 2080 ti fe vs rtx 3070 fe done by digital trends, gamer nexus and few European reviewers. It clearly shows to me that rtx 2080 ti fe is around 4% faster globally than rtx 3070 fe.
@@miguelb2747 also gamer nexus states that rtx 2080 ti is a better product due to higher Vram, memory bandwidth and interface. It’s more future proof.
I'm loving that Wintersun t-shirt.
4:06 the 3070 uses the same 14Gbps GDDR6 memory as the 2080Ti except it's on a much smaller 256-bit bus instead of the 2080Ti's 352-bit bus. This makes the 3070's bandwidth almost 50% less than the 2080Ti. Just wanted to make sure nobody thought the 3070 actually has fast memory.
i just got a Zotac 2080ti AMP edition for £200, one owner, never overclocked or mined
Just tested Odyssey on MSI 3070 Gaming Trio and got 79 fps at 3440x1440 with the built in benchmark.
I love your videos thank you sooo informative and love the laptop ones
So this video would probably have debuted before the resizable BAR unlock update. It's difficult to flat-out say that the 2080Ti is "faster" when the 3070 is able to handle the same work load while possessing a 28% smaller memory bandwidth and 30w less power usage. I'd be interested to see the affect of Rebar compared to these scores. It may be all the 3070 needed to close the efficiency gap on the Titan Ti. Interesting comparison video @JT
hi jarrod! after many of watching your videos i decided to pull the trigger and buy an aftershock system! I live in singapore and it should arrive soon. It has a 5600X and a 3070 OC. Thank you for all your videos and keep up the great work!

Thanks for incl Flight Simulator 2020 in comparisons.
Considering that the 3070 is going for around $1700 in the states, me getting a 2080 ti a week ago at $1000 (roughly MSRP at relese) doesn't sting so bad.
damn, 2080 ti are only 300 now
That Gigabyte aorus xtreme is such a beauty.
I am not sure if this is correct but with each generation the CUDA cores should get stronger.. like 1536 CUDA cores of 1660Ti(TURING) matches the performance of 1920 CUDA cores of the 1070(PASCAL)..... but here we need way more CUDA cores in AMPERE to match the performance of the TURING GPU ... I get that its different architecture.. but seems odd.......
From what I think is right is that they spliced the cores in half or something along those lines to get more cores than other generations but games have yet to take advantage of that so the performance increase isn't that much better. I hope I got that right.
@@aurakille2148 that makes sense.....
Just wait for big navi 6800 and 6800XT AIB unveilings on November 25. Availability before 2021 will be just as bad as everything else that's new, but at least something cool to look forward to.
I wonder if driver improvements have changed anything now.
Please do a 2070 Super vs 3070, Jarrod.
Back at work ayee!
I assume that means the increased CUDA core count would help somewhat in low volume Machine Learning applications, like Waifu2x-style applications.
I am interested to see what AMD has to offer.
I just look at the card and it's literally better in every sector where additional VRAM could benefit it, but it has less, and if so too little.
Also seeing newer games where the 5700XT a year old $400 GPU basically matches the 3070 or is within 15%, just makes me feel like it's still not a bargain, like many seem to think.
Damn, one of the very few red pilled people in the comments!
If you look at the history of gpu's, then this generation isn't much of a bargain.
It's all a matter of perception of value.
Yeah AMD couldn't really price the 5700XT on par with the 2070 Super with their driver issues, but it's all fixed now and it already matches it or beats it thanks to fine wine.
People fail to realize the 2080 Ti was barely an upgrade over the 1080 Ti, and really think the 3070 is "on another level", completely forgetting that the 20 series was literally WORSE in price to performance compared to the 10 series.
Still, DLSS 2.0 is pretty freaking amazing, and could be the selling point that drives consumers in any budget into purchasing an RTX card, since many of the extremely demanding games will have it.
We will have to wait see what AMD's response to it can do.
Overclocked my 3070 to 2100Mhz on core and 8200Mhz on Mem = 2080TI Profit!
Should I get Zotac 2080ti. I'm getting it for 689 usd it has 4.5 years warranty?
what would you go for in the current year were both cards are at the same price , the 2080ti used on ebay going for 280-320$ and rtx 3070 350$ brand new
Good review, the 3070 is the best deal overall. The 2080ti will be recommended if you need the extra memory or playing some crazy 4k. I was playing a game recently that hit 10.2 to 10.4gb video memory for a few minutes.
I sold my EVGA 2080ti for $600 on fbmp, I think that's fair, he got a card that still has 18+ months on the warranty.
So basically Nvidia are selling the 2080 Ti's as 3070s 2 years later for half the price which is about right, so comparing the price performance of GPUs with basically the same spec with a 2 year age difference is pointless 👍
All the 3070 owners that actually thought they was getting 2080ti performance for £500 put your hands in the air 😂 that 8gb VRAM tho OUCH, it's like 2014/15 when 4GB of VRAM was not enough due to the PS4 and XONE upping the VRAM and now the PS5 and Series X have upped it again.
Sure, but the performance is very close. The 3080 is also half the price (if you can buy one lol)
@@calebgreer8652 until you OC the 2080ti to 2100mhz...which the 3070 is a TERRIBLE oc card.. horrible gains.

Why did you bench an AIB (probably overclocked) 2080ti vs a FE 3070? And I don't see a mention of the 2080ti card brand, a tad sloppy review.
Looking back at these old videos is pretty funny given the 2080Ti has enduring appeal due to having more than 8GB of VRAM unlike most 3000 series cards!
vram is shockingly little on the 30 series, waiting for 40 series
The correct title is: RTX 3070 FE vs GIGABYTE AORUS 2080 TI.
To sum up: 3070 FE loses 4-6% depending on resolution, but cheaper 50% in US. In my country, RTX 3070 FE wasn't available, but MSI, ASUS RTX 3070 was ~800$ (sold out everywhere), Palit RTX 3070 was 730$.
While 2080 Ti starts from 1200$ (Palit). The country is Kazakhstan.
Same for Russia. Now I've got my RTX 3070 Zotac twin edge for 700$ and it was one of the most cheapest available (along with Palit)
If the card was available maybe you could have an argument regards to price, but other than that numbers don't lie.
I got my 2080Ti for $375 a few weeks ago. Considering that it is matched with a 3070 and I got it for under a 3070’s MSRP, it’s a pretty good deal!
