@@dralord1307 Well true, but everyone gets the point. I like how prices sky rocketed in the time where people started struggling financially. Strange timing. Or nvidia still lives in cryptodream and covid dream where even 1030 could be sold for 100€
I really miss the old days, when I got my gtx 980 for 550€. Don't get me wrong, I love my 3080ti even though it cost me almost 1700€, but man these prices are horrible.
Jay's saying the same thing I've been: Companies saw those pandemic scalper prices people were paying, and went absolutely insane with greed. In my ideal world, every last one of these cards would be sitting on shelves gathering dust and costing these companies a fortune until they offered steep price cuts out of desperation.
There is this, but there is also the fact that the crypto market isn't there to carry their expected margins anymore. So Nvidia in this case expects gamers to now carry on spending and covering the same price and demand as the miner's did, the miners that made money on these GPUs back in the day.
I can see Jensen going like "omg people just don't know what's good anymore. THE COST OF PRODUCTION HAS SKYROCKETED!!! People are not realizing that!! Sad... PC Gaming must be dead, people just don't value the quality of RTX, DLSS and our ENORMOUS investments anymore! Time to focus on Datacenter and AI more..." rather than "Oh well, maybe there is a problem with the price?"
Agreed. And they will sit on Shelfes. Dont worry. Sure, at first, they will sell. Like the 4080 now is as well since AMD had 3 different Hickups... But we too know that Nvidia wasnt making a Ton of 4080 to Beginn with and the same is with this Card now... Seems a little bit less even. So yes... while it seems they are still selling... they arent as good as many want you to think. I will start buying those at 400 and 700 Dollars. Because thats what they are worth it... (Compare the Die Size and you will see what i mean)
We as gamers need to come together and vote with our wallets. Don't buy the cards, don't buy anything especially from the scalpers. Let the greedy corporations feel a hole in their pocket so that next time it might give them pause to consider treating their customers with respect and remind them who got them where they are now.

bought a base 1080 on release at 600, same price as the 4070. Given that its been 9, almost 10 years, I could see this price increase in the 70 series as fair. but the increase of more than 100 dollars for the 70ti / 80 series is way too much. No way would I consider a 4080 at double the price of a 4070
@@spaceidiot200 Luckily prices have come down quite alot. I bought a 3080 for €400 since the 40 series is still too expensive. Traded my 1080ti and got 200 in hand so not too bad
You're spot on about the relationship between scalpers and profit. Nvidia doesn't care as long as they keep the pandemic era margin. That's reflected in every decision they made with the 40 series. It's sickening. I'll stick with my 2060S until it dies. Next time I'll be looking at a different OEM.
That's every single company in the United States. Not a single one has your or any customers best interest. AMD does exactly 100% the same thing so good luck finding a good GPU provided by a company that doesn't do these things, it doesn't exist.
Now that Im seeing this, despite seeing the performance in the 4090, makes me understand why EVGA left as a board partner. Theres no way the other manufacturers are making money off these cards.
And NVidia would be totally fine with every single one of their AIB's going under. When Nvidia sells FE cards they get 100% of the profit margin. That looks delicious.
All I can say is that I agree 100% - the quick grab for cash by tech industry right now to "recoup losses" is astounding to me. It's clear that Sales Engineers and CEOs of the tech industry and retailers are no longer the best and brightest out there, rather they are all scrambling to "grow the company" as fast as possible because that is all that wallstreet requires to validate them as successful companies, even though this "Growth" comes at the cost of the quality of product and consumer acceptance. SMH
Back in the day I won my GTX 970 at a LAN, and was able to sell it for $400 brand new. As of the last 12 months, I saw I could still sell it for the same price. In fact, the average I saw was $600. That's bonkers! The card is almost a decade old!
The fact you've mentioned the cost of living and compared it to the prices of these cards was great. These companies just throw cards out with a random number price on it and expect people to go for it. I'm in the market for a full system upgrade and I'm currently so tired of reading reviews and conflicting opinions as to what to buy I almost cannot be bothered. GPUs are the biggest pain the ass currently. Everything else was fairly straightforward.
Older cards are the way to go depending on what resolution you’re hoping to run I picked up my rx580 nitro for 90 before covid struck, there’s definitely bargains if you look
@@thefirstbushman This guy hit the nail on the head. Unless you have a serious need for bleeding edge performance from a GPU, you'll do very well with something from even up to 3 generation back. And those can get very affordable.
I've always been a "mid-tier" gpu person. My last two cards (R9 290 > 1070ti) were both right at the $450 price point. Something that was "expensive" to me at their respective times, but they felt like good VALUE at least. Picking up my RTX 3070 last summer for like $799 (being FORCED into the Newegg bundles and getting a PSU i didnt want) was a sting for me... Now seeing a 70 series card capable of 1000? Gtfo I'm so done...
I always bought the GTS line until it was removed. Then i switched to either a 50 or 60 class card. With Intel focusing on that part of the market, and significantly cheaper, I'll more than likely switch when it's time to replace my 3060.
Interesting coming back to this video 5 months later. 3090 Ti is still ~$1,600 on Amazon while 4070 Ti can be easily had for $799 (including several model options). Considering the massive improvement to efficiency, that makes the 4070 Ti seem like a great option. It is still expensive, which everything is, but in the actual landscape of GPU pricing it provides solid value. Just wish it had 16GB of VRAM rather than 12.
I bought a 4070ti a few weeks ago when a local hardware shop had a limited sale of Gainward Phoenix 4070ti cards for 750€ and it's a good card. Was it kinda expensive? Yes. Was it worth it compared to the RX 6750 XT I had before? Hell yes, its basically twice as fast as my "old" RX 6750 XT.
I got my Palit 4070Ti GameRock for 1,000USD when it came out. Keep in mind prices in Bulgaria are always higher than the US or most countries for that matter. At the time of purchasing, second hand 3090 TIs were still going for 1,500USD+, if you could even find one. 3080 Tis were going for around 1,500USD brand new, and around 900-1,100USD second hand. Thus why I chose to go with the 4070Ti, as it's brand new and has 2 years of warranty. I do not regret my purchase. Even with that price, my whole system turned out to around 1700 USD. Performance is great at 1440P, at 4K you do need DLSS in some titles if you want higher FPS, but Frame Gen does help a lot with that. At 1080P, it gets bottlenecked by my CPU (R5 5600X). It's actually a pretty decent GPU in my opinion, though, the price could've been better. And yes, it could've benefitted from 16 gigs of VRAM instead of 12, as some games fill that up. *cough* TLOU Part 1...

@@darschpugs4690 dude, stop pinning it to inflation, inflation only increased cost by 15% at most the past 3 years. However, cards have more than doubled in price. This is solely due to Nvidia and AMD's greed

I could not agree with you more. As someone who has been building enthusiast systems since 2002 or so, it's just sickening to see how low and greedy major players in the industry have become in the last 5 years. I know, we cant go back in time, but it's sad to know what new people to the hobby will have to endure, or miss out on entirely, in the current 'era'.
Consumers brought it upon themselves when they patronized scalpers. The only way to bring it back to pricing before the pandemic is to stop buying gpus.
@Zoran that's only true if nvidia doesn't release cards in lower price brackets. If the 4050 ends up being $400 but 20-30% faster than a 3070 then it would be a good value still. For all we know, nvidia could release a reasonably priced 4030 in the low end segment that beats the 3050. Seems to me they are just advusting the model numbers to make room for more skus across the price range.
@Zoran I mean whatever. My point is that people should be comparing prices to performance instead of model numbers to performance. If a new $800 card is 20-30% faster than last gen's $1200 card in rasterization and way faster in ray tracing, that's a good value esp with lower power consumption that will save you money in the long run. Who cares about the model number.
@Zoran haha yup. Tho inflation and supply chain issues certainly play a factor too. We should probably be lucky to see any price for price value increase at all.
I was nuts back in the day, I had a little disposable cash and bought a Titan Black for over $1,100. I thought I was crazy for spending over $1k on a graphics card. It was fun though, having bleeding edge performance. Ironically, I sold that card for as much as I paid for it one year later after the 1070 was released. I bought the 1070 at release for $500, and pocketed the $600 difference. The performance was identical, and that's a real value proposition. The Titan Black was the only tech thing that I have ever sold later for as much as I paid for it. Then crypto went insane, there were card shortages, prices shot through the roof, then Covid. The whole time I have kept my 1070 waiting for prices (and availability) to come back to reality. Honestly, at this point, this is just an insult from Nvidia. By pricing this way, I'll just hold onto my existing card for longer. Previously, I purchased a 780, 980, Titan Black, and a 1070 from Nvidia. Oh well, if that's the way they want to play it, games are still fun with my 1070. Maybe I'll buy one card from them every decade - it's already been 6.5 years on the 1070 and I am still enjoying it. I never thought I'd own a graphics card for as long as a car.
I think they're only pricing new cards so high to encourage people to buy up the rest of the 30 series first. I know it sounds unrealistic, but once they're gone, then prices might fall somewhat, because Nvidia know they are pricing themselves out of sales at this level price/performance (currently that's ok for them because they don't want to undermine sales of their 30 series stock). But once their 30 series cards are cleared, then they won't have anything that mid to lower end buyers will realistically buy (at least not many will pay current prices) so I figure (or hope) 40 series prices should start to fall a little, probably in modest steps, so they can try and tempt more people to bite. This all ignores the potential impact of competition from AMD and maybe Intel. Although AMD haven't matched the 4090 in performance, they will be able to match lower end 40 series cards, and have lower marginal cost. So hopefully they will undercut nvidia to steal market share. If that happens then defensive price cuts from nvidia may come sooner. At least this is all in principle, anyway. Cross your fingers and don't pay extortionate prices for cards guys
My last two cards have been a 750ti and a 1060 3g. I had been looking to upgrade to a 30 series around Black Friday but the way that NVIDIA has been acting with all this, I decided to pull the trigger on an RX6600 for a little under $200 and it's been a fantastic upgrade. Might be worth it for you as well.
last minute of this video expressed EXACTLY how the gamers feel to the stuff we love. It makes us happy to play with these stuff, but It indeed is sad to see how the industry has become.
It’s the democrats, uniparty republicans, and the neo-leftist west to blame for causing the inflation to begin with. I can’t blame nvidia for adjusting the prices so they can get the same margins.
Gamers keep buying these cards ... Just look on Reddit ... You've people complaning on the r/Nvidia about prices, and 2 days later, the sames posting their new Lovelace card ... What the f*** ....
It's the gamers that are to blame, they're the one's paying over-inflated prices hand over fist. I guess they want their console ports to run at 200+ fps?
Firstly, the majority of people are not buying these cards due to the economy in a global recession/depression. These cards are inflated to prevent "regular" people from spending and leaving it to those that can afford it. The government wants people to be broke, jobless, and homeless in order to stop inflation. When they initially stated that we were going to be in bad times until 2025/2026 this was the truth.
IMO this tier creeping comes primarily from the 4K gaming push. Nvidia knew they didn't have the juice to push 4K, but they told us they did as far back as the 1080 ti, using cherry-picked benchmarks and tricks (which has now gone as far as FRAME INTERPOLATION) to portray their products as more capable than they actually are. But because they couldn't push out 80-series cards capable of achieving the performance gamers wanted and expected (based on Nvidias own lies), they slowly started pushing the tiers up. Now they're just building cards with 90-series performance, giving them 90-series prices, but calling them 80-series (and likewise all the way down the product stack), and it's because of the bullshit 4K push. They want you to feel like your "mid-range" 4070 ti is super-capable. It's not. If it was actually built to a mid-range price point under the hood, today's 4070 ti would perform the same as a 3070 ti (because the 3070 ti is more like a 3080 ti, price-wise). Oops, it's almost like they squeezed in an entire generation of false progress by giving higher-end cards the names of lower-end cards! They jumped the gun on 4K, misled consumers about their capability for generations, and now they have to keep covering up their lies with more lies, because if they release a new generation of cards and are honest about the performance from the start it's gonna brutalize their stock price and PR. The stagnation would catch up with them, and they would lose an entire generation worth of progress, undoing the years-long pricing games they employed. They can never let that happen, so more lies and more tricks is all we're gonna get. Worth mentioning: of course the tensor cores contributed to the cost increase and overpricing in each tier. We're all forced to pay for those things, whether we use them or not. But that little bit of extra hardware isn't responsible for pushing these cards 2 tiers up in price.

@@TheReferrer72 i wansnt moaning. I was giving thanks for people reporting quality information and not allowing manufacturers to sway their opinions with money. I am also confused at your premise… cheaper cards would be bad for us? Scalpers attack anything in high demand. If there is something we can learn from this, it's that they can put the prices that they want and there is not much we can do about it. But if we stop buying it, they have to bring them down. The 4000 serie is not selling as it is expected and we can keep it that way until they make a move.
Exactly, supply and demand. A seller can ask whatever price they want. The buyer has the choice to say no and either: hold out, or seek a competitive product. This card isn't 'top of the line' and shouldn't cost more than an entire console (PS5). In fact, if NVIDIA keeps this up, I suspect it will hurt game sales of AAA titles on the PC in the future. Or, alternatively this will boost AMD if they get their prices down.
Tbh, soon GPU's will be used for AI calculations. They will be more expensive and this is only a begining. At the end of the day you will end up with no GPU at all. There will be only some kind of a wireless display or VR set for your mobile device and cloud streaming. This is sad. Yeah. Deal with it.
No, economies of scale matters as well. You will source a larger amount of older cheaper cards (or of older, simpler manufacturing process) if it will cost less but give xomparable performance to the latest cards.
When you consider that nvidia convinced its userbase that generating fake frames is a good thing, yeah, not the brightest bunch and they'll continue overpaying for whatever nvidia puts out.

We're at an interesting spot where console games are all still benchmarking around the 2070ish range. Most devs are still catering to these experiences when developing games. The EVGA cards typically pull more of a ~$1500 price (not always, two EVGA FTW3 sold for $550 & $580 free shipping on Dec. 26th), but that's all about EVGA exiting the GPU market.
If you take a look at bike shops around the US, you will notice that due to oversupply in the off-months of sale, they have to sell their stuff for much cheaper than the msrp originally stated. This is what needs to happen in the GPU market. I just don't see it happening due to the sheer volume of consumers willing to pay the price.

@@michaelmonstar4276 I got an XTX and 4090. I play cyberpunk and other demanding titles on my days off. It’s not any worse than people binging shows on their days off etc.
Given what I've seen out of the current generations of GPUs, I'm gonna be content with my 3070 for at least another generation. I don't have 800 dollars to throw at what has turned out to be a very small generational improvement
@@kzgntosbaga6255 exactly as the other person said, I game at 1440p 144hz high and it made the most sense for that at the time. I do agree that upgrading if you're still able to play what you want is pointless, but at the same time 1440/144 just looks a million times better than 1080/60 ever could.
I just bought a 4070ti for $799 USD. I'm replacing my 2080 Super with it. I believe I paid around $750 for the 2080s back when it was new a few years ago. From what I read, it seems like it'll be quite a bit better @1440p. Anywhere from 2 to 4 times the FPS depending on the title. We'll see when it gets here in a couple days. Liked the review, as well as you speaking truth.
Yep, been building PCs for friends and family for over 30 years, I just finished my new build for me and ended up spending way too much money to the point where this is probably my last build. And that was without buying from scalpers which I will not do….. GPU was the hardest component to find in stock. Crazy
Don't stop making builds! Like another commenter said, a higher 30 series is more than enough for builds. You don't need to go for every updated part. Don't let them ruin your experience.
It's crazy to me to see the pricing for the RTX 4070ti. I bought my GTX 1080ti in June 2017 for $725 bucks. She's still going strong and will be around for some time longer based on what I'm seeing.
This. I got my 1080Ti for £800, stuck a waterblock on it, and it happily plays games at 4k with pretty decent framerates. Unless the card breaks, I have no reason to update it to any of the new, extremely expensive price gouged GPUs.
Upgraded from a 900€, 1080ti 11gb to a 1000€, 3080 10gb two years ago. Now a 4070ti costs 1100€ here in germany. Are u kidding me nvidia? And the dlss 3.0 support only for the 4000 series is a kick in the nuts too.
I haven’t built a computer in 20 years, just gamer on console. But, the last few nights these videos have been recommended to me, so I started watching them. It is absolutely insane the price to build a decent gaming computer. You can basically get everything needed for a custom build and be the same price as one of these fking gpu’s! People are getting ripped off by these companies! Jay, I wish you guys had the ability to make gaming cards at a price that would smoke these other companies and put them out of business. Thanks for your videos, I’ll still build a pc with all of the input from your videos.
Thanks for making this video, Jay. The GPU market isn't what it used to be. I remember when I'd shop for a new graphics card and not worry about buying as fast as possible before the scalpers (and now retailers) grabbed all the inventory and sold them for nearly double the prices. The GPU market nowadays stinks, and I feel dirty whenever I browse and look at the current GPU prices & availability. Almost everyone's responsible for the current state of GPUs: consumers willing to pay ridiculous prices, companies that are taking advantage of people (including retailers), and scalpers.
I got my evga black edition 1070ti for £438.98 at launch. Hopefully looking to get a 40 series for less than £438.98 that has more cuda cores than 1070ti
Hey Jay, just hopping in to say that you're, irrespective of your success a) genuine b) somehow, humble and c) aware of how the"average" people live (and spend). I have great respect for you because of that. Those qualities are extremely rare, on this medium especially.

A big reason to get the 3090 ti is for machine learning applications. There the double amount of VRAM makes it incredibly attractive compared to 4070 ti.
@@reezlaw Exactly, for me who likes to render large scenes with iRay or Blender, it's all about the VRAM. And 24GB is massive. If energy prices hadn't increased by factor 10 here, I would have already got myself a used 3090/ti to replace my 2080ti!
I'm running at 1080 which is a 2016 card and I always had that "must buy a new graphics card!" feeling. Now days though, because of the prices, I just don't get that "must have" anymore. Infact, I don't even care anymore. They can have their 2,000 dollar cards, I'll just keep happily playing on my 1080 for the next 5 years. Then when prices for these cards are around 500 dollars, I will "upgrade".
I was concerned that the £520 I spent on a 3080 on Black Friday would turn out to be a mistake when the 4070 cards were launched. Seems like I had nothing to worry about.
where'd you even find that? New or refurb? I was looking but there was nothing in stock. There are still places with 3080 stock trying to sell them for £900-1200, it's mental, like who the f is actually guna buy that, it serves no purpose than to try and justify 40XX prices. I'm so over it, I'm still on a gtx970 which is so badly limiting my 13600k and desperate to upgrade, I refused to pay the inflated mining 30XX prices hoping 40XX would at least return to semi sensible price:performance and it's just getting worse.
I was able to get a 3080ti for $700 brand new (not tax included), there is a local store where i am which sell gpus at near stock price or stock price they even had a special sale on black friday too
Im currently on a 1050ti system that I’ve been wanting to upgrade for the past 2 years. It truly feels like my next upgrade will be to a 3-4 year old card, which blows my mind.
Same I have a 1070 I'm going to use until it dies and then I'm simply going to stop PC gaming because the juice isn't worth the squeeze when I can just get a PS5.
1080 Ti for $240 on ebay right now and thats for a hybrid EVGA one. I'm actually getting one off FB marketplace in a few days that just has a bad fan (also a hybrid EVGA card) and thats gonna be getting put in my GF's PC
I hate having to buy and research gfx cards these days, it used to be a fun endeavor knowing you're going to upgrade your rig now it's more confusing and stressful than ever.
Technology just simply can't progress more without a major breakthrough. Phones are already all the same for last 5 + years. Soon it will be with graphics cards. It's so little and marginal what you can do with this. People overestimate human progression in technology just because we got this huge jump in last 50 years. But there is only so much you can squeeze out of one creation. This companies rely on making new innovations to survive, but there is just nothing they can do except just add more stuff to it. Like what's the point of 4k or now even 8k? it doesn't do anything. No one can tell the difference. It only eats up more processing power, completely useless. But it gives an excuse for people to buy and for graphics cards to become bulkier with simply more things shoved into it. I mean what do you people expect? Obviously, progression will be really slow soon and less and less people will be upgrading constantly so they prices have to be higher because less people are actually purchasing. In this case simple supply and demand doesn't actually work. There is a limit to how low they can be, and that limit is above what would small enough price point where people that would have not upgraded would upgrade it because it was "just that cheap" So the price has to reflect what people that already are upgrading cards constantly would pay. Most of such people don't really care if its $100 more expensive or not. But that's how company can equalize less people constantly upgrading. It's not only about making money it's about making as much money or more than you made last year. Because, when you made more money, you already have spent it on new jobs / research and possibly new facilities. You got new investors that want to get a return on their investment, which would be impossible if the company makes less money. So that is why the price is the way that it is.
760€ for my ASUS TUF 3080 at launch. Current pricing in Finland for the listed 4070 Ti's are on average well above 1000€. ASUS again a bit cheaper at 940€. This is quite mind-boggling to me. Even paying closer to 800€ for a GPU was a bit of a bad tasting experience for me. It's exactly what Jay, GN, Linus, everybody are saying: if they want to upgrade and they have the money, gamers will spend the money and NVIDIA knows it.
Pricing will stay that way on the 30 series because the retailers have already paid that “higher” price when they acquired them. New batches of 40 series came in at a lower price to the retailer because of what you stated in the video about market crashes. I give it another 6 months and they’ll drop.
I have a GTX 1660 Super that replaced an RX 580 in October when my son upgraded to an RTX 3070. I'm very happy where I am right now, and I'm not considering an upgrade until both Teams Red and Green stop charging scalper prices for their GPUs. Mayhaps Intel will be able to get their stuff together and provide a third viable option.
I appreciate the realism displayed in Jay's content, what the everyday person can afford, and it's most certainly not going to be 60 series performance for 80 series prices.
@@krectus Kinda right, but also kinda wrong. Percentage wise it's about right. The problem is the top cards are so expensive that they're throwing the whole price range out of whack. The 1070 for example beat the 980ti for half the price. The 4070ti beats the 3090ti for half the price, but the 980ti was only $700, while the 3090ti is $1500
I think the biggest mistake they made with the 4070Ti (other then the obviously ludicrous pricing) is the fact they cut the memory bandwidth down so much that while it has the memory of a high end card, it has the bandwidth of a budget SKU. Even my 1070 (I bought new in 2016 and STILL am using) has a 256 memory bandwidth. At 1440p I don't think I have ever used more then 60% of my VRAM either, in any title. At this point I am saving up to buy a used 3070-3080 soon as I have two kids and things to pay for and cannot justify spending near $1k or more (the ENTIRE budget of my last PC) on just one part, the GPU. I don't even care if I buy a card that was used for mining, I would rather pay $400 for an old mining card off eBay then spend this much on an overpriced card and contribute to this LUDICROUS pricing
i got my rx 580 of ebay like 6 years ago it use for mining still run all game on 4k monitors why spend $1500 here au new just file mod get better looking game.
Agreed. I’m still running a 1060 6gb and it plays most games fine at 1440p. Of course it doesn’t have the best graphics but they’re not dreadful! Certainly playable with 50-60 fps and some peaks of 90fps in some scenarios

I just got a 4070ti. It's fine, reasonably priced for the performance. Everything is overpriced. It'll stay that way unless we stop buying, but we've been saying that for 20 years now.
You're the 1st reviewer I've seen mention the cost of living in these reviews. Good to see. No one else seems to be picking up on the pandemic/chip shortage market conditions vs the world these cards are being released into. With Toms HW reporting discrete GPU sales being at a 20 year low, how long before AMD and Nvidia switch their profit model back to lower price / higher volume
They are scalper prices Jay. Nvidia took the market price and put it on the sticker. I'm really cheering for team red and blue to catch up and give really good high end competition.
So. I picked up an MSI 4070ti off Amazon for $829.99 Id say $30 over MSRP isnt too bad. Same seller now has them up for $875 or so (as of Feb 10 2023). It was basically the only card in my budget as the rest were $1k+ at the moment. ~$800 was my budget for GPU, and $30 over was...reasonable imo. Now I play in 1440p not 4k, and Im upgrading from a 1080 8gig, so its still a huge upgrade for someone like me.
Completely understand you being upset about all this nonsense. I'm still using my 1080Ti in my new PC I built around a 13900K and I sorely want to upgrade but these prices are outrageous!
I just recently got a ryzen 5600x, new ram and new boot drive, but still on my 1070 because of pricing over the past couple of years. Really lame I can't really see the gains of the cpu or ram in games because the gpu bottleneck is so massive now.
I'm still on a gtx 780. I can't wait any more for prices to come down to earth to build a new system, they won't! Sad that now a mediocre graphics card is 40% of my overall computer budget. Nvida is crazily out of touch with people in a time where no one has any money. But we are not surprised by greedy Nvida are we?

@TroutButter I would say that compares to how long it has been since Nvidia has done anything to rave about. What would you consider a positive move in the gpu market coming from nvidia? All that matters when you buy a product like this is performance per dollar. We should be thankful that these guys are there to use the product to give us an honest opinion. If it was impressive they would tell us.
@TroutButter he also talks crap about AMD though? 🤔🤔 he's mad a couple videos recently talking about the new AMD graphics card that wasn't that positive. I'm still rocking an MSI GTX 1070ti. MSI really does make a great product. I would love to upgrade to a newer GPU at some point, but these Prices are just insane. just looking at the MSI 3070 on Amazon it's going for roughly about $800usd which so far is the lowest I've seen, however the MSI GTX 1070ti is going for about $200 at the cheapest I've seen, so thankfully if my 5-6-years old card bites the dust I can easily replace it. I would like to just upgrade to a newer card though. When I got the GTX 1070ti it was the same price 5 or 6 years ago as the 3070 is today so I MIGHT be able to that... If I have any cash left over from this next paycheck and after paying bills that is..
Overton window. You know, I skipped 2070 super for costing that much. I mean you definitely didn't go wrong, hell you could've mined its worth, I just find it ridiculous how they're trying to normalize crazy prices. My internal grumpy oldman state is "pfft 1070ti and 4070 is like $400 cards"
@@pandemicneetbux2110 I would say that $400 is a reasonable price. I believe when I got my GTX 1070ti it was when the first case of GPU shortages was happening with the 1080ti's and Bitcoin farmers and people buying them to resell them at a higher price, and because of that retailers had to mark up their prices to make up for the lost profits they were facing cause of it. Naturally the 1070ti should have been at most $500, but I ended up paying like $960.00 for it while the 1080's were going for like $1200.00+ and that was like 2017-2018.
@@shushyshushy6762 holy Jesus...I didn't realize people paid close to a grand for 1070ti. Well I stand corrected. But yeah, I still see it as $400 tier. At this point with global price fuckery, I can deal with $500. I ain't payin' more.
Anything above $800 is REALLY pushing it for a graphics card for me. I am glad I got myself a good 3080 for $760 two/three years ago from Best Buy. That is pretty expensive still. That card should realistically probably be like $550-650 today when bought from the store
@@ThaAlumniMusicGroup So? Us professionals can not want to be price gouged too. With all the scalping that happened and Nvidia/AMD being able to get away with selling every card instantly it makes sense they want to get away with price gouging now they have an opportunity to reset the prices for a new generation. This can help ease over the death of infinite demand and mining to shareholders now that they have to be competitive again and have way too much stock of old cards putting them at risk of losing big amounts of money.
I remember buying my MSI GTX 1080 Armor for $530 right before that generation's crypto boom. Crazy to see 80 series cards so much higher. It's really insane.
The insane pricing is because these companies saw how much people were willing to pay for scalped cards in 2020-2021. Now they're cashing in on that instead. I knew this would happen. Looks like I'm sticking with my RX 6800 for another 2 years or so.

Thank you for some very entertaining and informative commentary there. Yeah everytime I start pricing a gaming machine for my son - I stop shopping like 2 or 3 components down the list... the selection process gets daunting and even the entry level systems have a price point thats past what a new console costs here in South Africa... and given my first edition Xbox One is still going strong (he mostly plays Fortnite and Minecraft) and is not losing any sleep over the Frame Rates or even missing 4K - I reckon I will stay in my lane for now. 😆
can you point me to a channel that praises the 4070 ti ?? one that didn't rip nvidia to shreds? every channel I turn to is absolutely shitting on this card. that nexus guy? LTT? just so so over the top. every channel is playing "i fight for consumer" guy ... just pandering for viewers like crazy. I got a 4070 ti for 799US. its a fantastic card. i think the whole community missed the mark on this card. with the way inflation went we cant expect $400 or 500 cards anymore. You can't expect yesterdays prices today. I am 100% fine with this cards performance, the price, but especially the power usage. holy smokes this thing is exactly what i wanted (since I get 3090 performance without having to upgrade my PSU)
All the price points are carefully placed. That's why the 4080 is usually in stock at BestBuy, but you see the 4090 sold out. They are intentionally trying to upsell you at every avenue. Ever had that feeling of: I mean for that price, I might as well buy the [better card] That's all by design. They will sell out their big dog cards by using the previous tier as bait.
Upsells don't really work when everything you have is poor value and then the top SKU costs like three times as much as you originally had in your budget for that part.
@@amunak_ Value is relative. It's NOT tied to the cheapest price or the most bang for the buck product. The 4090 = value because it's currently the absolute King of 4K gaming. It's not my fault if you or other people are still sticking with 1080p or even 1440p for whatever reason whether it's because you just don't agree with paying $1,000+ for any GPU out of "principle" or because you can't afford it. If PC gamers can save up $300-$500 for a GPU, then they can save up $1,600+Tax for a GPU that delivers the current best gaming performance possible. Everyone has a choice. I don't like these prices whatsoever but the fact remains that these cards are a ONE-TIME fee and you're not FORCED to upgrade it after 2 years. People can buy a 4080 or 4090 and stick with it for 10 years if they wanted to.
@@PSYCHOV3N0M there is no reason really to buy anything, but the FE versions of these cards. All the overclocked ones especially the 4080 get you is 2fps.
3 months later. In Australia the 4070 ti is selling for a bit over $1300 AUD ($800 USD accounting for GST). This is around the upper end of the normal 3080 pricing.
I definitely wouldn't update if I had a 30X0 card. The price jump is crazy for the difference in performance. Sadly it doesn't look like prices are going to go back to what they were, but perhaps consumer's pressure will triumph eventually.
>but perhaps consumer's pressure will triumph eventually Price pressure has already won. I eye the rtx cards with envyfrom start but cant buy them. They cost the price of a PC. There is no middle range or low range anymore. If the cost of a PC is now that high, it means only people who wants a PC for AAA games are willing to buy those cards. A shrinking market then. So making AAA games is going to be less and less profitable. So less PCs, less cards, less games, rinse, repeat. It's a crashing market loop.
@@makmamialezatos1275 Last I checked the prices MSRP wise was only 100$ cheaper then the 4080, and then it depends on the retailers unless you buy directly from AMD I guess so not exactly much cheaper and with the less then perfect release of the XTX and XT cards that was to say the least a shit storm not really bringing much joy either
@@makmamialezatos1275 Yeah, it's not like AMD is much cheaper and much better value. Don't get me wrong: The 4080 is still amazing technologically, a beast with amazing power consumption. I got one because I found a good discount and because I'm coming from a 1050 (2GB). Just saying that, due to the price, I don't think it would be worth it if I already had a 30X0 card.
Unfortunately, I don't think that Intel will be our savior, either. Instead, they will work in CAHOOTS with the other two major GPU makers (NVIDIA and AMD). They will all participate in closed-door meetings in which they will secretly agree NOT to have different prices for their products. That's ILLEGAL in the USA, by the way; as this practice is known as PRICE-FIXING! Price-fixing is against the law, thanks to the very FIRST section of the Sherman Antitrust Law. Anyway, this price-fixing will completely eliminate any competition; as well as allow them to collectively raise their prices to optimum cockbag levels. Yes, I do believe that the GPU oligopoly will obtain a copy of the cable oligopoly's playbook; and that they will follow that playbook to a "T".
I had the 3070 ti. Loved that card it didn’t run to hot. Had a pretty decent performance. I switched to a 3080 and gave that card to my brother. Seen noticeable performance boosts from it. My 3080 runs so hot that I’ll be water cooling one day 😂. But I’m definitely not going 40 series till the market crashes with these cards bc these prices are outrageous.
Remember the EVGA debacle? The margins were already low at the MSRP set by Nvidia which is why cards will always cost way more than expected from AIBs. That would include packaging and shipping to retailers. AIBs or retailers lowering the cost without Nvidia initiating it means everyone but Nvidia loses money just so they can clear shelves since AIBs purchased the GPU silicon at Nvidia's pricing and retailers at the AIBs price. They would need to be refunded some of that cost before prices can drop well enough, especially for the older cards. That's why a 3900X CPU still costs more than a 5900X.
@@MaxxKoggen to be true I don't give a fuck about retailers. They are the reason for those high prices we have nowadays. Their greed rising prices in cards that launched at a certain price and they more than doubled the price in their stores brought us to this. Zotac RTX 3070 Twin Edge launched at ~$500. It reached $1,200 at retailers. Now it's hard for them to make money because Nvidia and AMD have decided to get the most chunk of that overprice. It's okay by me. Now the industry from up to down will learn that you don't mess with the customers.
It's easy to have an idea... Look at the intel arc 3xx, with 6gb of gddr6X.. yes, X... sold at, I think, 159 bucks. Now, let's assume intel is willing to make at least 50-60 bucks, on each unit sold. We're left with $100. Now, assuming the factory, the guy who imports/ transport, the guy who stores it in a big warehouse, and ultimately, the online retailer, they all make 30-40 bucks, that means the card + packaging + everything else, must cost intel around 50 - 60 bucks, to manufacture... Now, if we calculate the price of the gpu + pcb assembly +quality assurance + testing + packaging, let's say, 20, 30 bucks max, that means... Those 6 GB of Gddr6X probably only cost 20 to 30 bucks ! Come on, let's be optimistic, and say the 6GB cost 40 bucks ! That means, the price of these memories aren't exactly what the industry, amd... Nvidia... Sony, etc, wants us to believe ! Then, when Yuku are a big company like Nvidia, you don't order it by the hundreds of by the thousands of units. No. They will order 10k... or even 100k... and that means an extra % price cut. No, gigabytes of gddr6 or gddr6x don't cost hundreds, if not thousands $, like many want us to believe ! A rtx3090, with 24GB of gddr6x ? Well, Nvidia are probably paying less than 200 bucks, for those 24GB of memory ! Let's say the 3090 pcb and components, + the main gpu, + cooling system + testing and packaging will cost Nvidia 150 to 200 bucks... with 200 bucks for the memory, a 3090 used to cost under $400. Sold at $1999, that's a pretty nice margin. Seeing that, we can assume that it would only cost 20..or 30 bucks, for the ps5 to have gddr6x, instead of gddr6 ! With gddr6x memory, the ps5 would probably be a +12Tflops system, instead of 10.3TF !.... so GREEDY ! Lol, and when we think Nvidia wanted to charge an extra $200... to go from the 12GB to the 16GB model...

Absolutely agree with everything said here. I almost bought a 3090ti when it dropped to 1100. Now I kinda wish I had, but I don't want to reward Nvidia or AMD for pushing such high price points. So, as you say, I'm stretching my 3060ti until my work forces purchasing a better card. Hopefully some sanity is restored by then.

Happy with my 3080, does what I need. I'm always 2-3 years behind. I got mine for slightly over $700 back in November. I do 3D animation and now make games. I honestly can't believe the prices of these new cards. I didn't think it would be this bad. I'll hang on to my 2080 super hybrid that I got open box from Microcenter in early 2020 for $600.
I picked up my 2080 for 500 bucks on the used market about 3 years ago. Year after year I realize I absolutely got a deal compared to the MSRP’s Nvidia is setting. They’re absolutely gouging the market and I hope the consumers really wise up and quit buying these cards at these insane prices.
2080S is still a great card. Mine is holding up well and with current gpu prices being as atrocious as they are I don't see myself upgrading for years.
I managed to get a 3070ti at $549 around half a year ago and thats working. No need for me to upgrade at all for a while. Rtx 3000 and rx 6000 are pretty good cards. Bought a rx 6600 for 200. Great buy, probably will last me 2-3-4 years. The card itself shows stagnation from the previous AMD generation, but for what I play, its totally fine. Doubt that any card in the future that will be 200-250 and actually be good, so I am happy with the buy.
They've priced me out of wanting another gaming pc, I sold my 3070 when it had value. No decent games to play, just bored of it all. I think my love of pc tech is over, it started at 20 I'm now 48.
I'm glad I took your advice a few months ago when gpu prices were down. I managed to score a 3090ti for 950 canadian. My needs will be met for yrs to come, and hopefully, when I need an upgrade, prices will be back to reality. I'm trying to help a friend put together a pc right now, and the only affordable card we've been able to find is a 3060ti, which is still a great card, but years ago, a 500$ card would be high end not mid tier
Why not look at AMD cards? You can get equal and better performance from AMD GPUs at that price point. A 6800XT is overall better than a 3060ti and can be found for less money.
Even the 3060Ti hasn't changed much in price since my wife and I bought one each just after Jay's video. Just checked the retailer now and if we waited 6 months we'd have saved $30AUD on each card. The 3070 and up? Same price, hasn't budged. @Isaiah - I looked very closely at a 6800XT and only backed off because I play a LOT of Fallout 4 and Skyrim and wanted to get into ENB modding which supposedly works better on nVidida cards. To be fair I'm not sure I don't regret that decision, but I will admit the 3060Ti does everyhing I ask of it.
I remember I built a system in 2014 and got sli EVGA 780Ti SC 2.0 for £1425 and that was the flagship card at the time. And that was a lot of money at the time to spend on gpus seems funny now though
Regardless of all the muck, I still appreciate you taking the time so we can make informed decisions & get a better idea of the "big picture" on what the market/Nvidia is doing
Ive only ever been a buyer on the low to mid price point market for gpus. $200-300 range and since that seems to no longer exist im just gonna keep passing these new things. I can stay happy with a 1660 if it means saving so much money and it works perfectly fine as is. nice video though J.
Building my first rig I decided to go with the 4070ti. $800 is grossly over priced. But looking at everything else that was available, it seemed like the best deal for gaming in 1440p and being able to do ray tracing and have access to DLSS.
Yea exactly this. Yes prices are horrible but in a market with no good price options for modern gaming you don’t really have a choice. AMD has cheaper options with decent performance but cards like the 6950 xt aren’t even available in my region. Looking for an update and the best price/performance is the 4070ti from what I can tell.
I'm looking at the same options right now. A 3090 sounds like a better value but doesn't get the dlss updates (arbitrary nvidia decision) and I haven't looked yet at wattage difference.
@@ditshipp From what I understand the 4070ti to is comparable to the 3090ti, beating it out only slightly in 1080p and 1440p. Only marginally losing to it in 4k. But most people won't notice that much of a difference. Of course that's not taking the newer features of the 4000 series cards into consideration. I'm pretty sure the 3090 draws more power, but you do have more VRAM.
I remember working at micro center for the 10 and 20 series launch. And the 1080ti was $999 and I thought "wow that's an expensive card" and then the 20 series came out and $1k+ was the norm. Those first few months of having to explain why it's more expensive, and why it was worth it or not worth it to people was difficult. I both loved and hated that job, because while I was commission based and wanted to sell more to make a paycheck, I also didn't want to be that asshole salesman always pushing the best of the best.
Your reaction is spot on inline with mine. I build Desktops for family and friends and right now, I'm finding it very difficult to make gpu suggestions for the builds. Actually went backwards 2 generations on the last 2 builds.
It is just BS that they have almost completely abandoned the affordable end of the spectrum. I am helping a friend with a new build and they are on a veeeery tight budget and will likely get a 1660....maybe a 2060, depending on price and even on the used market, I feel those two cards are overpriced, in my humble opinion. We need another "1050ti" level card for like 150-170 bucks. The 3050 is a joke at the 300 it goes for....and I think it is a joke even at msrp. It should be 199.99 LOL.

I was in the process of putting together a new system and decided to take a look at what the 4080's were going for, my jaw literally hit the floor when I saw the average asking price from local stores was about $1900 CAD. That makes the GPU alone over 50% the cost of the system at this point, pure insanity and greed.
Yeah, I'm with you. I was really wound up for this generation, just based on how difficult it was to get my previous generation 3060Ti. Fortunately EVGA honored their wait list and I got it at MSRP from them. Now I see this generation, only moderately improved over the previous one, selling at scalper prices called "MSRP". I'm still running at 1440, so I think I'm going to stay with what I have.
@@Twn_Turbo Part of the reason I say I got "lucky". I had money set aside for a 3080 when they announced the MSRP, and I was thrilled to finally get a top tier gaming card. When the availability issue reared it's head, you could no longer get on a waiting list anywhere for a 3080. I managed to get on EVGA's lists for the 3070 and 3060. That was February of 2021. It took until November 2021, but EVGA finally sent me an email saying the 3060 production had ended, but would I like a 3060Ti for $429.. which I jumped on. At that time scalper pricing for a 3060 was more than double that, and I gained even more respect for EVGA for continuing to honor their MSRP prices. I really detest what the GPU market has become.
And of course EVGA dies of death. You guys do realize buying nVidia cards even today is like watching simps hand over their kid's college fund for feet pics right? Why are you buying Jensen's feet pics? For $1500 even though it's just a 4080? I saw allegedly 6800XTs going into the $400s-500s which, while not great, is still 4k60 power by and large. There's like, a handful of games out there you'd need to turn down settings from ultra to high or even medium to get 60fps at 4k. This is really what pisses nVidia off too, which I think is partly why they make certain moves including bringing out the mining cards because they wanted to divert some dies to where it can never be used again by a gamer with no display outs on mining GPUs, because every crypto crash fucks them when people just buy the used card. 1080tis are so common partly because of that last crash where they flooded the market for cheap. In the far future? Idk though. But I doubt people are going to keep paying insane prices each generation, it's not like they can just force people to do so. It's a company, they only charge as much as the consumer can and will absorb, once consumers stop paying it, they lower prices until people are buying again.

I was looking for a lower end graphics card like the RTX 3060 - RTX 3060Ti but the price is way to much. I found a RX 6700 XT delivered for $380 I'm coming from a GTX 1660 super. Really happy with my decision saved money and received something faster then the RTX 3060.
It's $400 cheaper and 20% faster than a 3080ti in rasterization... what's the problem?
I never thought I'd own a graphics card for as long as a car.
tbh those all seem like crypto cards. at the appropriate msrp very convenient .
I still run a 980Ti… and moved on to console gaming. I dont care anymore.
I had a 1070 and sold it during the COVID crypto boom I got back what I paid for it 5/6 years ago
I am not the biggest Jay fan but I agree. I admit his little speech at the end about hardware hit home.
What would you do if you had a 2080 TI at 1440? I dont play games at FULL max... I am happy with upper medium settings with lower shadows etc.... should I wait to buy anything?

Stop the moaning, the price will come down, these companies should not be pricing the cards low and let the scalpers take the excess profits.
Which would happen if Nvidia dropped the price $200.
@@TheReferrer72 i wansnt moaning. I was giving thanks for people reporting quality information and not allowing manufacturers to sway their opinions with money. I am also confused at your premise… cheaper cards would be bad for us? Scalpers attack anything in high demand. By raising the prices higher, nvidia and amd have reduced demand and essentially became the scalpers.
Lol expecting microchip prices to go down during ww3 is the best proof of debility.

A big reason to get the 3090 ti is for machine learning applications. There the double amount of VRAM makes it incredibly attractive compared to 4070 ti.

@@redmoose1447 Its called marketing and is supposed to keep them from needing innovation if they can just gaslight you into buying it regardless.
@@redmoose1447 Because our currently technology has reached its limits. And company needs a return on investments.
And that's exactly what happened 5 months later
I have a GTX 1660 Super that replaced an RX 580 in October when my son upgraded to an RTX 3070. I'm very happy where I am right now, and I'm not considering an upgrade until both Teams Red and Green stop charging scalper prices for their GPUs. This card outperforms the previous generations' 90ti in a lot of ways, it's priced right at $800 but the branding is all messed up.

All the price points are carefully placed. That's why the 4080 is usually in stock at BestBuy, but you see the 4090 sold out. They are intentionally trying to upsell you at every avenue. Ever had that feeling of: I mean for that price, I might as well buy the [better card]

Especially when cards like the Asus ROG Strix 4080 pretty much has the same price as the 4090.
Upsells don't really work when everything you have is poor value and then the top SKU costs like three times as much as you originally had in your budget for that part.

My 3080 runs so hot that I’ll be water cooling one day 😂. But I’m definitely not going 40 series till the market crashes with these cards bc these prices are outrageous.
I would love to see the cost/markup prices at each stage of distribution.
@@albertmas3752the problem with that is then the retailers will just mark it up even more at that point, putting more price on the average gamer.
@@stormwolf8888 then we just do what we've been doing since RTX 4000 and RX 7000 came out: we don't buy and leave the shelves completely full. Until they go bankrupt. Then we can buy all this stuff at 10% its price and dance over the grave of their companies.
I bought an msi suprim x 3090ti 5 months ago or so for 1400.00, they're going for 1700 to 1800 now, it's 🤪! I remember when I bought my first gpu a used evga 1080ti ftw3 for 600 and I thought that was pricey...crazy stuff!!!
@@puddleduckist I bought the same card last August for $1100USD. Glad I got it and didn't wait for this clusterfuck of a generation. Gonna be waiting 2-3 more generations before I upgrade and hopefully there is another company (Cough AMD Cough) that can help level this playing field on the high end for gaming. I doubt it though because they are also playing the same greedy game, just not as aggressively.
The msi 3090ti is a beast of a card. I had originally bought an evga 3080ti ftw3 and ended up selling it and got the 3090ti. It's crazy how all this stuff goes. I have an asus z690, 12900k. 6000mhz ddr5 dom plat ram and the 3090ti and now pretty much they have newer cpu, gpu, mb and pretty much everything else. Hard to keep up, as soon as you buy the newest phone, oh there's a new one just around the corner! Nutty i tell ya! Switched to a 42 inch lg c2 for my display, no regrets, games look so good on it and everything else as well!!!
You all are idiots for buying a 3090ti for 1200$+ now that 4070ti almost on par in terms of performance, more energy efficient, faster and costs less.
@@puddleduckist What did you get for your old 1080Ti when you sold it? I only lost $60 from what I paid for my 1070TI when I sold it last year, my best friend got 600 for his old 1080Ti.
Happy with my 3080, does what I need. I'm always 2-3 years behind. I got mine for slightly over $700 back in November. I do 3D animation and now make games. I like to focus on stability versus bleeding edge. I think the state of video cards is absolutely disgusting as far as the cost nVidia puts out there and it's for that reason EVGA pulled out.
I thought EVGA pulled out because they got tired of how Nvidia works with partners.

i m so glad i still sticking to console gaming and hold back my new rig build till today.
After what's going on with the gaming market these days I feel so much happiness with my rx 580 I'm so proud of you amd for making cards like these..
Do you ever watch the news?
funny story. late 2021 i got a 3060 for over 700....about a month ago i got a 3090....for about 760. speaking to gpu prices.
Hell , waiting for a year or so would be good. Make nVidia sweat bullets snd get proper priced cards.
Anyone else who may be strapped, had a gpu conk out on them, etc, I feel bad for em. I just hope people don't have a need to buy anything and can wait. Prices are dumb. Maybe next launch they will wake up a bit and do a better job on sane marketing
I'm so happy I followed your advice back in July and decided to buy a secondhand 3060 ti asap. It was a really fast decision but I felt I had to act now or never, and I was able to get my hands on a barely used card for €450. Half a year later and I couldn't be happier with it, especially considering the mess that is the market today
same here really , i got a RTX 3060 for £350.00 still boxed and unopened , never used from a friend , works fine for the games i play , the whole pc build including the 5900 ryzen 9 cpu , 32 gigs of pretty ram that lights up , asus x570 motherboard and a icue 465x case and a 850 watt psu for just under £1500.00 , and the card i considered to be a good price overall

@@MrVacicak @berniecolley552 oh yeah definitely. that brief window mid-2022 was a good time to get deals on gpus
I'm with you on the budget. I need an upgrade to my RX570 4gb, but can't find a damn thing.
My 1070 was 500$ with an overclocked model, and it's still holding up almost 7 years later.. Quite frustrating that the card in same tier is 1000$

I just buy the very best GPU I can find for $300 and I'm done with it.

At this rate the 4050 will be 500 bux easily. Disgrace

@@lollershit yeah I got the 3090 asus tuf OC for $600 this past month. I was in the process of putting together a new system and decided to take a look at what the 4080's were going for, my jaw literally hit the floor when I saw the average asking price from local stores was about $1900 CAD. That makes the GPU alone over 50% the cost of the system at this point, pure insanity and greed.
I picked one up for $1100 USD only because my 1080 ti is going on six years.
I had to spend close to a 3070 FE for a AIB 3060Ti, also running 1440p. But I'm still glad I did, I'm waiting for another generation at least
Even though the 4080 is worse than Fermi and so hot it needs 4 slots and can't fit in your case? 4070ti and 4080 hard pass.
@@pandemicneetbux2110 Totally agree with you but what about us people that have old cards? I'm still using a 1660 GTX TI. It's eventually going to die and I can't even play 2k on newer titles anymore. Wth do I do? Lol
@@wombat5252 Do what normal people do and buy a used 3080 or used 6800XT? Idk, it's not like you can't keep playing at 1080p, a 1660ti is still plenty for most people.
