as someone who has a 2080 ti (and currently feels very stupid about owning one) I don't think I'm going to upgrade for a while. The 3090 may offer better performance but it's not like the 2080 ti is absolute garbage now, and it's still a very powerful card
My favorite video since this is comparing my current GPU to my last GPU. I did have two 2080ti's in SLI, just prior to getting my 3090 FE. When SLI did work, it was absolutely BRUTAL. Unfortunately, I could not live with the heat, noise, and power consumption. They were great cards, and I might miss them, LoL.
As someone that bought a founders 2080ti back in jan of 19, I was honestly a little relieved that the numbers weren't as high as nvidia said. It's a big improvement for sure, but looking at FPS jumps from people like you, linus & jayz2c, I can live with only being down 30 or 40 fps - especially when it's already pushing 100 or better on a 3440x1440 ultrawide at max settings in a lot of games. A little sad about the timing of things, but the 2080ti is still a really, really fast card for gaming, and lol contrary to all the tech tubers out there, is not "obsolete" lol
Nice to see some desktop stuff from you Jarrod. I could buy the 3090 for my new PC build, but I'll wait a bit. I don't wanna buy it and then see Nvidia release Super and/or Ti versions of these cards that are better. Also waiting to see what sort of stuff AMD are coming up with. Still, very impressed with the benchmarks for the 3090. If I go for a 4K build with my next PC, and if there's nothing better than this for a while, I'll buy it.

I created a new rule for myself. I prefer my games to run at the max frame rate of my monitor (currently 120 Hz, soon to be 175 Hz), since I feel it is the most aesthetically pleasing frame rate for immersion for me. So if my current GPU is hitting those 60's, 70's, 80's in FPS on the games I play, I will not upgrade until the GPU I purchase has at least a 100% increase compared to the GPU I currently have. So lovelace seems like the appropriate upgrade from my 2080 TI, I just hope for the love of God that they aren't as terrible looking as the Ampere cards. Turing nailed it on the looks department. Hey Jarrod ¿What is your expected performance increase on laptops with RTX 3000 series? I'm kind of skeptical since despite the performance increase, this comes at a huge power draw increase. It would be nice to test a 3080 at 200W, 150W and 115W power caps instead of the default 350W to see what it could do on a laptop.

I bought a 3090 today, much because of VR (Vive Pro). Can never have enough performance for VR gaming. The more GPU power you have, the more you can super sample, giving you a clearer image. If it's worth the money, depends on your level of disposable income, I would say.

Some of the results are purely for technical purposes, as any normal gamer should be content with 120 FPS in a game. It's really not worth upgrading if your game goes from 120 FPS to 150 FPS, you don't even notice those extra 30 FPS. And it's really not worth upgrading if you only do 1080p, as the difference is minimal and not worth the price.

Cuda Core statement is misleading People always use this thinking it means something but unless you're comparing the same card it means nothing, Cuda cores in a 2080ti to a 3090 is a different architecture and you can't compare one to the other. I don't know if it's interface limitation or memory or what, but that boost is not impressive to say the least. I was very excited about 3000 GPU-s when I saw the huge increase in cuda cores, now I'm actually very scared for them in laptops.
Thanks for an informative video!
is it better in running VR ? what about future proofing regarding VR .. I just want to buy the best setup for VR
I bought a 3090 today, much because of VR (Vive Pro). Can never have enough performance for VR gaming. The more GPU power you have, the more you can super sample, giving you a clearer image.
If it's worth the money, depends on your level of disposable income, I would say.
@@PragmaticTornado money is not the problem :) I am building a new system from scratch.. and I was waiting to see if 3090 is better than 3080 and obviously if its worth it.. I was thinking of waiting for the 3090 ti or the titan ..
@@siclusiferx No card more powerful than the 3090 has even been confirmed. I'll be surprised if that happens.
Hey Jarrod just wondering what PC parts retailer you recommend in Australia THANKS!
pccg/mwave is what I use personally.
How big is the gap between ryzen 5 3550h and ryzen 7 3550h?
Would you recommend to wait for the laptop market to updates?
Yes
I bought 1070 laptop 1,5 years ago. After one year for this price i would be buy 2070 laptop. So after half or year it be 3070-80. Next we are can wait 1 year more for 40xx :D
@@ivandozingoff853 this would be my first buy in years, that's why i'm reading, looking for reviews, but with AMD on octuber, en CES in 2021 and updated and prices drops in laptop will occur in 2021 (if the alien don't come first)
hello . tks for the video. i have a MSI GE75 RAIDER 8SG RTX 2080 . IS POSSIBLE UPGRATE THIS PUTING A 3090 ? TKS,
good work more content like this, please.
Ok!
Damn good review! Much thanks!
So amazing and helpful comparison. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
3090 is like beerus in base form facing off against a super saiyan..
*He ain’t using a heap of power just yet but he can absolutely whoop someone without trying*
Will you make a test of gpd win max 🥺
:B
I had 2080ti and 9900k @5GHz but Witcher 3 run average 50-60fpfs you must be dreaming 104 fps ...
Things are looking grim for laptops with how high of a power consumption these GPUs have (including the 3080 n 3070)
3090 is so quiccc but so thiccc
imho, need to try to low starting TDP 3090 on 250w or lock cap for 400w
That really interesting look
If you're buying a 3090 and you have something lower than platinum or at least gold 850 and above dont even bother to buy one then
watching this video make my heart ache. someone give me there old gpu ? i'm stock at gtx 750 :(
Cuda Core statement is misleading People always use this thinking it means something but unless you're comparing the same card it means nothing, Cuda cores in a 2080ti to a 3090 is a different architecture and you can't compare one to the other. That's like comparing a Porsche to a Volkswagen of the same year, sure both made in Germany, but both very different.
A tech reviewer who is a metal head also...
Instant subscribe...!!!!😄
Nyc 'in flames' t-shirt though...
What does 1% low mean?
i really hope stock eventually comes for the 3090, to replace my 2080ti. really looking forward to that boost in fps, beyond 60fps at ultra in some of my games
Do you think we gotta upgrade other internals tho ??
@@6.0hh19 depends what other hardware you have. I upgraded to a 3090 but didn't upgrade anything else. Im still rocking 2400 mhz 16 gb ram lol
One BIG gap in content that youtubers are missing the boat; DCS VR. DCS VR with the 2080ti is barely playable.
