  • The battery of canon R8 is much smaller than the R6, R5, R7, and because of that, its performance is equally diminished. However, with this trick, the battery can last much longer. Try it and leave a comment if It did work, or even if it didn't. I am pretty sure it will make a huge difference!

    Turning on Airplane Mode was the first thing I did when I got mine. Knowing how much power that constant bluetooth/wifi search would consume, it seemed like the obvious thing to do as the battery looked a lot smaller than my R5. Good to know I made the right choice. I have to say, I was worried hearing all the bad stuff about the battery, but I've been out a few times shooting all day with it and the battery's never run out on me.

    The totality of the advice here is "Turn on airplane mode," for those who don't have time to listen to a two minute preamble.

    Hi, I just bought this camera, I thought I did a great job researching it and I ended up buying it. Then I saw a lot of people hating on this thing, from the battery to other things. I felt like I made the biggest mistake ever! I too suffered from the battery losing power after taking some shots. I was also informed to turn off the wifi which helped. I really like this camera! I am still learning. and maybe one day I will get better at understanding ISO, F-stops, shutter speeds, ugh its alot! Thank you for the great and easy to follow video!

      The camera is good for 99% of the people. It has some shortcomings but for the price I think they are acceptable. The battery is ok after turning airplane mode on and it lasts a fair amount. Enjoy the camera and go out to shoot everyday!

    Great tip. I’ve had the wifi etc off on my R5 and R7 from the outset, really only necessary for remotes and gimbals . The R5 in particular is quite battery hungry.. Cheers from NZ 😀

    you can also get rp vertical grip which holds 2 batteries

    • @DemisG.
      @DemisG.  Год назад +2

      Canon do not make battery grips for both the rp and the R8. The ones that can adapt are ok but need a connection cable to the camera. I did not want to have any cable hanging

    • @rd_rae
      @rd_rae Год назад +1

      @@DemisG.you do not have to plug in the cable though, only if you want to use the grip‘s vertical shutter button.

    • @DemisG.
      @DemisG.  Год назад

      @rdrae if the grip has no contacts to communicate to the body, how can you use it without a cable? How does it give power to the camera?

    • @rd_rae
      @rd_rae Год назад

      @@DemisG. you mix up communicatio and power delivery. PD goes through the battery connectors. Communication to use the vertical grip goes through the cable, but is not needed for PD. Clear?

    • @DemisG.
      @DemisG.  Год назад

      @rdrae yes my bad, I was confused because I thought the grip needed a cable to send power to the body. However, the cable is for using the grip shutter.

    I have not tested mine yet, but I think that main problem here is that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are draining battery quite fast ...so either turn on airplane mode or disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, it should have the same effect

    • @DemisG.
      @DemisG.  Год назад

      You are certainly right! That's exactly the problem!

  • @ytwatcher6020
    @ytwatcher6020 10 месяцев назад

    The only downside to that is when you turn it back on, the previous connections that youve set may no longer work. For example if you've already connected the camera to your phone app. Hopefully a firmware update fixes this.

      @DemisG. It happened in my R50 and R8. Quiet annoying as the connection had to be reset before it worked again.

    Hi. I have a question. What is that grip with that L piece ? Looks functional to secure the cables connection to the camera

    • @DemisG.
      @DemisG.  Год назад

      It's just an L braket that makes the whole feel better and protect the cables while plugged. Also, if you use tripods often enough, it will help to not scatch the camera.

    • @superbowl205

      Can you provide a link for that L Bracket? Thanks. Ps.. the battery is awful. They should come out with a fix or a new battery. Shame on Canon

      @DemisG.  Год назад

      Hi, about a week ago i shot all day but in the shade. I shot about 2000 images with 3 batteries and it did show a couple of lines in the overheat bar but I had no problems even I shot all day

      @@DemisG. thank you for sharing Your experience. Many owners complainin about that issue even shooting stills any many videos explaning the issue out there. Good to hear that nothing serious for stills.

    • @DemisG.
      @DemisG.  Год назад

      @brockperincek you are welcome! Before i had an R5 and i had an R6 as well, they both used to overheat while shooting 4k even after software update, but never had any problem shooting stills. The R8 body is sensibly smaller and heat dissipation definitely more difficult. So far, for stills i had no problems, but I did not shoot under direct sunlight for over 30 min. I was in the shade, but still around 35 degrees C. If you need to shoot events under the sun all day, I am not sure but there is a chance that the camera might overheat even in stills mode. So far, I had no issues though!
