Hard to believe that battery life and shooting tests were not part of this review. Charging and displaying remaining charge is great, but do they last the same? Are the spent after a few minutes? Can they hold the heat of video recording and the ensuing higher charge delivery?
i cant believe canon did it again with the LP-E17, "Canon t7i battery" in the RP, R10, R8 and R50 😵, good thing is if you had an old t7i and a bunch of batteries, upgrading to the new R series in these forms will be easy on the battery accumulation. this was a great break down
My method of dealing with batteries nowadays is to use a USB charger and USB tester power meter, since I can measure the true capability of each battery in mAh. Third party ones can now be easily sorted out the first time and all can be monitored on a regular basis.
And as far as using my camera for doing videos, "Houston, we have a problem" Using my camera for taking videos, the camera overheats after ~15 mins. It will shut down and you have to restart it. But the CPU also gets hot. So buying more batteries for longer sessions can be a problem. I have found that a battery for a RC race car is the correct voltage. Attaching it to the camera can be rather cumbersome. A dummy battery wired in with a hanging pouch will work.
It would be good to know battery life of non OEM batteries. Mine weigh less than the official Canon batteries. OTOH the Canon batteries I have will also charge in the OEM charger but not the other way around.
Hey, glad I came across your review. I'm considering the R8 but reported short battery life is a concern. I have a couple of Wasabi EL-s7 batteries, so knowing they'll work in the R8 is very helpful. It's easy enough to throw one of those in the shoulder bag for a day out snapping photos. I too have used the Wasabi brand for a number of years (in Canon apsc DSLRs) and have come to trust them. My experience, with the Wasabi's not charging in the Canon charger, is the same as what you report. Thanks
I had no idea there were so many brands choices. I have used Rav Power for my Sony ZV-E10. I will consider the Wasabi next time I purchase some. Enjoyed this video!
I bought the Artman, I am worried about the battery indicator. I have show over 1k of photo's plus aboud 10-15 min of 4k video and its still reporting full. Either these batteries are amazing or the indicator isn't working.
The blue batteries ruined my trip to Big Sur! Avoid, they showed as full charge then only worked 10min each. Maybe they’re okay for the Rebel but they DONT work well with the R8.
This video is not accurate at all, the third party batteries will show you as FULL battery up until it dies, so there is effectively no indicator. Please test throughly before posting videos like this. Ie they will not show you low battery status at all. Just 100% until the battery is fully used up.
That is so wrong on so many levels, it does show levels of battery, just not percentage, but the amazon third party batteries do not show any indication until it shuts down. Just google the issue if you don't believe me.@@newvillagefilms
Fast forward 4:05 to skip all his natterings. I really just wanted to know if my OEM Canon batteries would charge using the 3rd party chargers that uses USB-C port (instead of an AC). 🙄 😂

Just wanted to let you know that you are doing an amazing job! Really look forward to all of your videos
Thank you. That’s nice of you to say
Hello, thank you for the info, question, have you tried to record a video in 4k 60fps with the Canon r8 using the wasabi battery?

oh, I may have some lol. I forgot about my t7i batteries.
Hey man! Have you tried turning on airplane mode? If you're not doing remote shooting putting this camera in air plane mode helps a lot.
I second this. It makes the batteries last about 4x times as long.

If you leave the "Airplane Mode" set to "ON" when you do not need to use WiFi and Bluetooth, you get more mileage.

which one was it?
Help, I bought a used Canon M6, with third party ravpower batteries and it does not show the battery indicator on the screen. Is that normal?

Lol... Even OEM Canon batteries (purchased from Canon website) INTERMITTENTLY do not show "battery left" in my Canon R8.

I have this issue too.
Lol. This might be your personal experience but wasabi works great.
I have a new Artman with batteries inserted from the top, just like Wasabi, and it charges Canon batteries.
Have you tried running it with USB C power. How would one rig that up on a gimbal lol
Apparently it requires at least a 27w output power bank for the power delivery to work. It its under that it will only charge when the battery is off.
Next firmware: Kills third party batteries for licensing reasons.
haha
Pls, don’t give canon anymore cripple hammer ideas 😂
Hahnel is the only off brand electronic accessories i would trust . It´s actually well established brand. At least in developed world.
Thank you!
the canon battery charged in my artman charger when i still had the R8
That's weird, but great to know. I thought mine was charging but it wasn't. Hopefully mine was a lemon.
Ya my canon battery was charging in my artman charger as well
@babybackmaniacleftovers my Wasabi batteries are charged by the RP battery charger, but not while in the camera
Gods work!

My canon battery charged in the BESTON charger😊
My original canon battery will charge in my Artman charger. No problem.
Essy battery solution , the RP vertical battery grip works perfectly on R 8 , the vertical controls dont work but awesome battery life then
Wasn't that removed on Amazon?
