    When I get a new camera I make sure noise reduction is turned off. I also then off the play back after each shot. If you need to look at your photo you can press the play button. It's your camera has IBIS you can turn it off when you don't need it as a last resort. You can turn off auto focus and manual focus for static subjects. Use back button focus. Most people think this is just an easier way to focus or to keep your camera from refocusing after you take a photo. If your camera is in continuous focus mode it will use power while it's focusing. You can either use single focus mode until you need it or keep it in continuous focus mode and it will only continuously focus with back button focus when you hold the button down. If you just tap the back button it will act like single focus mode and just focus the one time, saving you battery life. I don't know how much battery it will save but it might be better to select a white balance for the even rather than to use auto white balance. If it's in auto white balance out may be constantly changing for the scene even when you're not taking a photo. Anything that's in auto mode that causes your camera to perform calculations will draw power.

      Thanks for the “micro improvement” tips. There are of course a lot of ways to get a bit more juice from your camera, but we really need to look into the “bigger boosting” methods to make it really practical and easy to do no matter the usage volume/scenario. Thanks for sharing! I appreciate the thorough and detailed tips!

      @alextheifrim battery technology is constantly changing. Look at the first mobile cell phone to today's phone and what they can do. Of course there's a reason not to come out with better batteries. You can sell more batteries by simply not improving them. I have 2 spare batteries I can use in my camera. That's 2 extra batteries I had to buy.

Very good performance overall, no problems with the heating. I shoot mostly 4K 24fps and it handles it very well. Image quality is really great. The only “downside” when it comes to video is the rolling shutter effect. Whenever there is sudden or bit more movement the rolling shutter effect can be noticed. • @alextheifrim
      @alextheifrim  11 месяцев назад +4

      Hi there! Yes, the grip comes with a small cable for triggering the shutter button. It is the only way that the grip can send the input to the camera as the R8 was not designed by Canon to work with a grip. That is why Canon is also not making one for R8 or RP. The cable is quite small, so it is not bothering that much. What I also like about this Pantona grip is that it comes also with a small remote, so I can trigger the camera remotely with ease, without having to use the Canon app wirelessly. I do product photography and the remote really helps :). All the best!

    Battery grip? Canon did not release battery grips for either the RP or the R8. This means the camera firmware does not know how to use one. The battery compartment lacks connections for control buttons on any buttons on the grip.
    AC Adapter? Good idea, except stick to only using a Canon AC Adapter. Or, you can buy a cheap knockoff from somewhere online, and risk damaging your camera.
    Hope this helps!

    I have a better idea-just carry two extra batteries in your pocket. You triple your battery life, you can use your wireless remote, you don’t have to carry around a big, mostly full of air, dumb battery grip and you aren’t connected to a wire. Why do you reviewers make the R8's small battery an issue?

    • @alextheifrim
      @alextheifrim  10 месяцев назад +1

      In the end it really depends on how you are using the camera. It is up to you what is the most suitable solution in the end. Getting extra batteries is always necesarry. What we can all agree is that the 1.000 mah battery is first of all a technical/commercial differentiator between models. Second of all, considering that it packs in a lot of power hungry tech, with a more advanced processor, AI focus, connectivity, 4k C-Log filming capabilities, 1.000 mah is not enough from my point of view. If you decide to swap batteries, use a grip, or rig a power bank, it is really up to you in the end to decide what is best. Thanks!

      This is kind of just a general observation, but "from my experience" could mean anything. It could mean that you took one picture, then changed batteries, and took one more picture. Hybrid cameras make things more confusing - I'm interested in the R8 only because it can shoot 4k60 video. I'm guessing the battery might last 40 minutes shooting 4k60 video, so if I want to shoot for 8 hours, I'll need around 8 batteries (taking into account cool-down time for overheating).
