DUDE YOU MAKE FIRE CONTENT!!! I NEED TO SEE MORE R8 VIDEO!!!!!
Fun fact!
If you hold down the power button on the Anker power bank, it'll turn white and continuously output power!
Yeah unfortunately that don’t work. I’ve tried it. Unfortunate
one of the best solution if u video first or shoot both video and photos, Bless u for this video bro n now i'm comfortable to go for the R8
Awesome glad it helped. It really is amazing
Great video bro! Love it!
on the topic of power, I believe (though not tried it myself yet) that if you have a powerbank that outputs sufficient power, you can just put your normal LP-E17 battery in the camera, and plug the powerbank directly into the USB-C port of the camera. when the camera is OFF, it will charge the battery. when it's ON, the powerbank will directly power the camera (but won't charge the battery at the same time)
ah, never mind, i see in the comments further down that this was already mentioned and confirmed. as you were :)
I was thinking the exact same thing 🙃
Thanks for the great info!!!
Thanks for watching :)
Can you please tell me what would be the best buy for the video: R8 or XA65?
Awesome tip. Thanks for sharing 👌💕 also awesome comments😊
Yes the comments are awesome. Ive noticed that using a battery with the USB C cable plugged in it over heats a lot faster than just having a dummy battery plugged in.
You made this a better camera externally. I assumed the topic was about manual settings and C Log.
Thank you for this video.
Thank you so much for sharing. ❤
thank you for watching :)
Thanks a lot for letting us know... I've been trying to decide between A6700 and R8 to stream outdoors... But I'm considers factors such as battery and stabilization... What max output(resolution) can I get if I want to stream out of the Usb? Type C... ?
Does the one cable from Amazon Replace the two part cable (one from Amazon + one from B&H not shown in links)?
Excellent idea quick question do you use the outlet with 45 watts or the other one with 30 Watts?
I'm using it and love it. To be fair, it's my first full frame/DSLR so I of course I don't have the comparison.
but I love how it feels, how light it is (I sometimes carry it around in my hand on a walk with a RF100-400 with no problem), what possibilities it gives me and (I guess) how much more it can do as seen in this video!
Yes it is honestly an amazing camera and for your first full frame camera it’s going to open up a world of possibilities In my opinion. Don’t cheap out on the memory card though. SanDisk V90 cards is all I would use.
It's a mirrorless!
Also my first camera and I used it for a family vacation and I'm thrilled.
I bought one of the power adapters and the output on the dummy battery contacts is 9.14 volts from the the pd charger is that normal?
I thought I could just connect a back-up battery to the USB C port? Good work, thanks
You can!
What is the cable you have between the battery and the power bank? Is that a voltage regulator?
Great video! May I ask what ND FILter did you use here?
Tried finding the model pd bx converter. No luck. Anyone have a link? Just purchased the R8 and taking on vacation so worried about power. Thanks for sharing your experience
Finally, someone who doesn't call it an entry-level camera 😀
lol I know everyone calls it that. The footage out of this cameras is amazing.
I don’t see the link for the adapter you said connects the dummy battery to the power bank. You pls post the link or let me know where it is? Thanks
you are awesome dude
Awesome video! Quick question: do you know how low the shutter speed can go when in video mode? Looking for a camera that can get that cool slow/delayed shutter effect for video. Thanks!
R8 in my hands. I just tested it wouldn’t go below 1/8 of a second but it was definitely a cool low shutter speed effect.
You addressed all my concerns. Thanks! Got any links for the battery and the holder attachment for the gimbal ?
Yes the battery the link is in the description. I’ll update it will the holder now. Glad the video helped :)
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions Greetings, I can't see the mount and power bank holder link, I'd like to check it out. Thanks.
Great video. I am thinking about getting an R8, but also thinking about Lumix S52 for spending a bit extra. (I am an Canon user, own some EF lens) I think I will go for the R8
Make sure you watch the other video on my channel before buying the R8. I think it will help you with your decision
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Can I use a 120000, 45w power bank?
I’m actually thinking of switching out my eos r but the build quality of the EOS R is so good and the battery life 😅
What did you end up doing?
I grabbed the R6mii, but i might change my other 2x EOS R to an R8
Do yu know if this set up will work with the Crave Plus Battery in addition to the Crave Plus Pro? I don't need as much power so I'm looking for a smaller, lighter battery.
To be honest I haven't tested with any other crave batteries so I can't answer that unfortunately. If you find out let me know :)
Hi friend.. I love the beefier setup for your R8... Can You please tell me which lens are those or your using.. I just bought a r8 camera but I don't think they will come with those lenses.. Im thinking those are for vloggin.?
24-105rf is a great lens. I also use the 15-35 2.8 rf. They are the best lenses
What is the average battery life? When you say "all day" what are you estimating the time? looking at the R8 for pictures/lacrosse tournament videos for my kid
I was thinking why was this camera so cheap for it's capabilities. Now I understand, it reminds me of my Canon Rebel. I guess it's a tradeoff to get 4k 60p for an affordable price. I probably wouldn't use it while walking, the footage is moving up and down, the lack of image stabilization shows.
Hey Michael.
I have a camera that had a notch hole on the camera battery door. I did research to find out what it was for.
Found out it was for a dummy battery for AC power. All cameras should have that!
Great job Michael.
I agree all camera's should have that. It is an amazing feature. Thanks for watching :)
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions I am a bit confused. Why do you need an adapter to power the camera if it can be powered by the usb-c connector on the side according to the user manual ?
hey Michael, can you send link to the convertor? please? I couldn't find it. 😔 3:15
Nice video! I may steal the battery trick for my R8! What do you recommend for a work horse Lense and ND Filter?
Work horse lens would be the 24-70 f2.8 rf or if you're going for a little cheaper do the 24-105 f4 rf. Both amazing lenses. Also for nd filters I love polarpro.
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions awesome. Thanks. I think you're right. Both of those lenses would be work horses and helpful. Did you get the full polar pro set?
USB C shenanigans notwithstanding, this was a great video, thank you man. Do you have experience/an opinion on the DJI - RS 3 Mini? I'm not pro so looking to save a little cost/size on the gimble. I've seen people say R8 is great in it due to lighter weight of the camera.
I use R8 with the rs3 mini. Good advice I was given: keep the load on it to half of what they advertise it can hold. That was the motors on the gimbal will last and it won’t drift while you use it. With the R8 that means a lens that’s about the weight of the R8 and not much more.
Just used the R8 on a gimbal, shooting 4k 60 fps B-roll in the forest. The batteries do go VERY fast, but the battery life was better at 4k 24 fps. I was lucky to be able to charge the batteries at the campsite where I was staying, so it worked out. But if I didn't have the ability to charge the batteries, I would need a different solution. Also the beginner gimbal I was using ran out of juice pretty quick too. So this battery/ charging situation may become a bigger issue in the future.
But overall the video quality is just awesome.
I agree the video quality is amazing. Thanks for watching the video. There is work arounds to making this camera work for you. Just have to keep it cool because from my experience it will overheat. But keep in mind I live in Florida.
also I released a video last week talking about the R8. I dont speak to highly of it so watch only if you want to hear my true experience lol. The image quality is good but man the over heating issue is a big problem for me.
Yea and also they have 120 and 180 1080p super slow motion that looks beautifulllllllll. The 1080P should save battery and memory card space, plus you don't lose too much quality. You still get cannon log so it's super fun and extremely slow motion lol. give it a try if you haven't already.
Great vid Michael. It's a powerhouse of a camera for what it is.
This is true my friend.
Pardon me, I'm lost. Please explain more clearly...2 or 3 cables? Thank you.
Do you have a link for the PD-BX Converter?
Nice job all the way around.
What are you going about overheating issues. When I set to 4K - 60f it overheats in 15 min. Are you just shooting in lower at 29 only?
So I live in Florida and honestly don’t have an overheating issue shooting 4k 60fps clog3. But remember like I said in the video I use this camera as my B cam. So when I use it I only use it for small clips here and there. B Roll pretty much. I never run it long enough in 4k 60 to give it time to over heat. When I use this camera for interviews I only shoot in 4k 30 clog 3
Thanks for the video this camera is underrated. I'm making a top 5 camera for beginners in 2024.
This should be on the list. Have you used it before?
Yes my friend got one@@MichaelJohnsonProductions
Very informative, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
The pd-bx to usb c link??
what lens do you use?
Turn on Airplane mode It turns off the internal Wi-Fi and Bluetooth transmitters that need only need be on for communications. Batteries then lasts for days.
Yes that works. Also close the large view screen back so it turns off. On mine charge lasts several days.
Have you tried this camera with the ninja v to see if you get ProRes 422? They said that is like letting your camera shoot all-I since it’s only IPB
It does 10 bit 4k in clog3 right?
informative video
Thank you
Just buy a battery grip for canon eos rp. It fits and works. You get more time of shooting and you can even shoit vertically
This is also a great option
Hello! When shooting a video, I have a “jerky” picture when moving. I shoot 25 frames, shutter speed 50. Please tell me what could be the problem?
Hmm that’s very strange. What lens are you using? Does it have stabilization on the lens?
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions Thanks a lot for the tip! The problem was that the camera's electronic stabilizer was turned off!
Sir i do only photography and i get 350 plus clicks only
Any settings or any high battery adjustment to stable to camera. Plz reply
Maybe turn off bluetooth and wifi. Or put it in airplane mode.
Why didn't you just use USB-C to charge the battery via the camera's usb-c port?
Hi, I'm just getting into video and do a lot of live music. What should my video settings be for this camera? I shot a video recently and my film have banding in the light areas you can really notice it. How do I fix this? Thank you!
Send me the video you are talking about. Are you shooting in Clog 3?
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions Thanks for the reply, no I'm not shooting in Clog 3. That's like camera raw right?
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions Thanks for your reply! I sent you an email. I'm not shooting in Clog 3, should I be? I'm a beginner and from what I understand Clog 3 is like shooting in RAW, correct?
Only ipb and no all-i in new r7 & r8 is the reason fx30 stands out in the competition of the similar price range. So i had to switch to sony for video but for photo i still use canon dslr.
So with that external battery solution. It doesn’t overheat now?
It does still over heat. Just takes longer to get to that point of overheating. A lot longer.
Hello, why not just put a USB C cable from the power bank to the camera USB C connector? It's supposed can charge the battery and keep the camera operational... or not? I just bought this camera but isn't delivered yet ....
You can do it that way but I like the option of it being on a gimbal and I can plug the gimbal into the camera and have controls like I explained in the video. You'll love the camera
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions ahhhh okay the gimbal needs be connected to the USB on the camera, I'm gonna find me one of these adapters!!! Thanks you!!
Sounds good. Thanks for watching :)
How do you rate the R8 with gimbal for stability?
I would rate it the same as the C70 which I use all the time. It's honestly great.
you didnt link the ND filter used on your 24-105
Yeah it was a cheap one from Amazon I no longer can find. Sorry.
Was thinking of getting the R8 as a main cam and I currently purchased a R50 brand new after starting out with a T7. What do you think of that?
What did you end up doing?
What kind of work do you do?
I heard battery grip from canon rp is compatibile with r8
Yeah they do but that may give it 45 minutes total of usage. It really does suck down the batteries pretty fast
why not just use the usb c port to charge the camera ?
The USB C Port does not keep the camera running. It will only charge the battery inside once the camera is off. I wish the usb c port worked. Trust me I tried everything to make that work lol
So the only thing you tell is that needs to be improved on the R8 is a better battery life? That says a lot about the quality of this camera. For me the battery life is not a big point as I am not using it for professinal work all day long. So I would prefer just having some more batteries with me. This will do fine for me.
Yeah if you’re not using it for professional work this camera is for you. For sure a great camera that shoots awesome footage. Depending on if you live in a hot environment if you have to worry about the overheating problem. Which I talk about in my latest video.
Which one should i buy? Canon r8 or r10? Which is the best?
Honestly the R8
if i remember correctly, the r8 accepts PD over its usb C port so you could skip the coupler
You could do it that way but then you can't plug the gimbal into the usb c port for controls. Totally up to what you want to do.
I would buy 3 more battery just not to have this setup with powerbank and cables
Trust me I honestly have 7 regular batteries but if I dont have to use them I wont. But I agree have both.
i don’t think you need all that. that battery bank will go straight into the usb-c port and power/charge a normal battery ?
No unfortunately it don’t work that way on this camera. On the canon R5 C it works that way but not the r8
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions wow! but have u tried with a different powerbank ?
@@MichaelJohnsonProductionswhy not? It should!
It does work. I was wrong. You can use the USB C port.
The battery cable is better in the sense nothing get's out of the side of the camera. Could be better like for a wedding photographer having a battery/power bank on him. I suppose one could make his own 2 18650 box and power it directly from that.
why cant you just use the usb c on the side for power?
You can but then you won’t be able to use the usb c for the gimbal. I also notice it don’t run got when using the dummy battery. It gets a lot hotter when you have a battery in there.
I hate the dummy battery. What's better is a 45w PD power bank plugged into the camera USB c, so if the power bank gets disconnected the camera won shut off losing the video clip. I have the Anker 737
Hey you're not wrong. I thought the USB C didn't work until I tried a different cable. So you are right.
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions it has to be a 30w or higher power bank too. i had a decent one and it wouldn't work. the battery icon will turn gray if it works
Yeah the battery bank I featured in the video works great with the usb c cable I was just using a cheap cable when I tested it before the video. Totally my bad.
can you just charge it through the type c plug on it`s side?
Yes you can. The camera overheats faster and you lose the ability to attached the gimbal to the camera when you plug in that way. I made a new video explaining all of this. If you have the time.
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions thank you man I'll make sure to watch it
Couldn't you just plug the R8 to a PowerBank using type c port?
Actually you can directly connect the USB C port on the camera to the power bank. No need dummy battery.
Yeah you can do that but then you won't be able to use a gimbal like i showed in the video. You wont be able to connect the gimbal to the camera.
Great but for outdoor shootings?
im refunding my r10 that i just bought for the r8
The r8 is a good camera
Electronic shutter for flash photography good?
Ive used it with a flash and got good results once for a wedding. I normally never do weddings though but it looked good.
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions Even at 40 fps?
Oh I can’t speak on the 40fps I haven’t used that feature yet.
I am surprised you can't just connect a power bank to r8 with simple USB C cable?! I heard this camera can be powered by USBC port for long content.
Come to find out. You can.
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions Yes you can. You will need a USB-C power pack that allows fast charging and a chipped USB-C power lead, so that the USB C in the R8 negotiates with the fast power pack. You will still need to have a working battery in the R8. When the R8 is switched off, the external power will charge the camera's LP-E17 battery. When the R8 is powered-on, it will be take its supply from the external fast USB-C battery. Unfortunately it won't work from a fast USB A to USB-C power pack.
You are correct. I just tested it with a different cable and it worked like you said. Dangit. I ran test before I made this video with Usb C to Usb C but I guess it wasnt a high quality enough cable. I appreciate you taking the time to comment this. Thank you.
uhhh, can you not just plug in to the usb-c port on the camera??????
You can but then you don’t have the option to plug into the usb c for the gimbal Control.
But in fact it is not a good camera. I like the small form factor, but it comes with a price. No image stabilization, so you need a gimble and small batteries so you need something extra. It is like the sigma fp. Sound great… awesome image quality and small. But to use it, you need to rig it up.
Nailed it. Great comment. Wait for my video that is coming out this week. It's honestly not speaking to highly of this camera.
Just got mine. It has electronic stabilization and enhanced too. Haven't seen any artifacts other than it narrows view of lens.
IBIS camera is more expensive. it is only 1500$ R8 can shoot 10bit 4.2.2 with CLoG, 300bmps
I'm about a minute in. I'm going to guess you're going to need 500 bucks or more to get stable footage and v mount battery plus the rigging. Maybe 1000 bucks.
That puts it at nearly the price of the R6 variants. Just a guess!
Cool video amigo!
No lol.
Watch the video and re comment. I love the passion though
40 bucks of battery, 10 bucks of cables and a gimbal. I don't know where you guys think the r8 is shaky cam world. It works fine w/o ibis
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions, cool video regardless! Thanks for sharing.
It overheats at 4k60, making the battery rig useless for anyone who wants to shoot 4k60 for more than 15 minutes at a time.
Edit: Oops - I was the annoying guy who didn't own the camera, but said stuff about how it works based on reviews, etc. I do think I'm right though, although 15 minutes is probably an over-exaggeration.
Yes as I mentioned in my last video talking about this camera
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions Cheers!
That setup is a nightmare. I would pay more for a better camera just to avoid all this. I appreciate your effort though.
Lol it's not bad at all. Maybe the video made it look worse than it actually is. Unfortunately there is no options for bigger batteries for this camera. Just the option to put two in one but that still is not enough.
Just buy a battery grip
Also, dude my R8 does NOT shoot low light footage like the quality you have on the track. There is SO MUCH FUCKING NOISE
What lens are you using? I dont have problems with low light.
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions I have a 50mm F1.8 and a 16mm f2.8 and neither handle low light good at all. Dark rooms are dark as F and noisey when doing real estate homes and outside at night it is noisey as well.
Hmmm maybe a faulty camera which is unlikely. As you see in my footage I don’t have this problem. Also I haven’t seen the problem with other r8’s out there either.
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions what settings are you using? 1/30 f2.8 with 800 iso?
Bought it, walked outside to use and it instantly overheated! Turned it off and it overheated again, this was only shooting photos! The camera is junk!
Yes you need to watch the video I made on this camera talking about the R8. I talk about this same issue.
I can't believe there's no dummy battery cable that will go directly to USB-C, so you don't have to "jerry-rig" two cables like that.
The battery is enough for me to not buy this camera.
👍🏼 lol
Hi Michael, cool work! We'd love to collaborate with you, how can we get in touch? :)
I’ve received your emails. Haven’t had time to think about it. Been shooting a lot lately.
@@MichaelJohnsonProductions Got it! Do let us know when you're ready to discuss a potential partnership! Have a great day!
BETTER BUY ANOTHER CAMERA WITH A BETTER BATTERY INSTEAD OF THIS CUMBERSOME CONVERSION....... WHAT ABOUT FUJI XH2 .....😊😊😊
