I have been using the r8 for astrophotography - not having the extra weight of IBIS is actually super handy when it's sitting on an astro tracker. The fact it can shoot clog3 is also awesome. Fun fact - you can use it as a usb web cam by changing a setting too... I think they were kinda interested in vloggers with this (though leaving out IBIS is silly in that case haha)
Hey Pierre, I've been using this camera for the last 6-7 Months and I'm Impressed with the output of the camera. I'm using it for photos and videos both... Mostly Industrial and product photography/videography. The sensor and processor are same as R6 MII so it gives better quality compared to Price to product quality ratio. I use DJI RS3 for stable video shoots so IDC abt IBIS! YES! The only disadvantage is the small battery life... Bought 2 additional batteries for that. Hi, just got a new Canon R8 body, and on setting up I am facing several issues. Please help. I am using the Canon R8 with a Viltrox adaptor and Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 and Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 lens. Below are the issues: 1. While trying to set 'Image Quality', the image size is showing as 3744x2496 instead of 6000x4000 for both Raw and JPEG. 2. Under JPEG, only L and S2 are enabled, with rest of the options like M and S1 disabled for selection and grayed out. 3. Under 'Cropping/aspect ratio' only 1.6 (1.6x crop) is available for selection. Rest of the options (Full, 1:1, 4:3 and 16:9) are disabled for selection and grayed out. This issue is only when the Sigma lens is on. 4. On selecting 'Cropping/aspect ratio' as Full with the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 lens on, I am getting heavy vignetting both from the EVF and LCD, as well as in the Image. This goes away after I zoom 15mm.
I had a Nikon D750 and several lenses/flash gear. I have a professional level of knowledge but don't get time to shoot much. Part of the reason I don't shoot much is that the Nikon ecosystem isn't enjoyable or intuitive for me. The Canon is. I would've preferred the R6, and couldn't agree more about the satisfaction of the shutter sound. The R8 is so weak compared to the R6. And I think the focusing on the R6 is slightly better, and is likely psychological for me, due to the shutter sound. I didn't need IBIS or a larger battery.. but I did need to be able to travel light and compact. This camera replaced 2 bodies for me; the D750 (FF) and a D5500 (APS-C) and went from 15 lbs of glass to about 5 lbs. By that I mean I was able to consolidate a prime 20, 50, zoom, major telephoto, etc. into a 24-240 and a 600. 1 body, 2 lenses, and a flash are all I need to travel now. I also bought the RF 100/2.8 for portraits and macro photography. I haven't a lot of time with it yet. But so far, every lens has been crisp and more importantly, light and fun to use. I think the "fun to use" factor is overlooked with cameras lately. To me Sony and Nikon are the least enjoyable to shoot but just get a little better micro-detail and sharpness than Canon.. Not enough to be worth the thought required to get the shot. That might be the opposite for some... where people think Nikon or Sony have easy to use manuals.. IDK.. but not for me. The person the R8 is for, is me... someone that has a lot of experience/knowledge in photography but wants something light and compact that focuses fast and well. You didn't go into it, but the C1 and C2 positions on the dial are great to have... Oh, and use the Fv mode, holy crap that is awesome... it's like super-fast manual mode blended with Program mode.. it's the basis for my C1 and C2 settings. Love this camera system.
I want to run around Chicago and photo explore with you! I only live about 45minutes away! My wife and I will be out there May 5th for a Half Alive concert at the House of Blues!
See nobody has mentioned that the R8 with the 24-50 leaves a huge vignette on raw images ! I understand you only see it when you view the raw image and have to either use a paid lightroom or canon DPP app to add in camera lens abbreviations back on the raw image! Anyone in the comments have a workaround ? Using the Canon software for every image is slow and surely most raw editing suited should have this or canon should provide a raw editing suite with the camera at no extra cost
YES! As an insecure person I feel very happy when a person on youtube uses same brand of consumer electronics as myself. It makes me feel validated. Please tell me you are using shoes from Adidas? I just bought some.

@@marximus4 I just saw it a few hours ago. I know what you mean. When I first saw that the beginning of the video I thought it was exactly that but I still wanted to get the name. Now I got a couple of ideas of how to modify my own lenses at least cosmetically
For street photography or anywhere you don't need to raise the ISO, I prefer the EOS R over the R8. As for indoor photography without speedlight or for photographing animals, the R8 does better because of the new sensor. I always use 600EX II-RT on my EOS R with ISO 50. That's why I still keep my EOS R. I don't usually use ISO above 100. But when I switch, I'll go for an R5.
I have it 6400 with fckn 18-135 F3.5-5,6 a crappy combination, so that i ended using my 13 years old nikon D5100 which still takes decent photos but aged AF. So WHICH LENS DID U BUY???
great camera indeed, especially for travel lightweight, and extreme low-light, but what a shitty crappy slow kit lens... better get the body-only camera, unless - sometimes this happens - the kit with the crappy lens is cheaper. Also recommending getting a 3rd party battery grip ( Vello, Patona ) so you can have better grip, longer battery life , and a release button for vertical shots. Also recommend getting Rycote micro windjammers on the microphones to block wind noise when shooting video ( unless using external videomic with "deadkitten" windblock but that increases the size a lot. What lens to get ? depends what you shoot. I like RF 100-400 on it, and RF 16/2.8 ( awesome lightweight combo ) ... and 3rd party lenses TTArtisan RF 7.5mm/2.0 circular fisheye , TTArtisan RF 11mm/2.8 fullframe fisheye, Sigma EF 20mm /1.4 with adapter ( or with Viltrox 0.71x EF-R3 speedbooster to get RF 14mm f/1.0 ) , Laowa RF 28/1.2 , RF 35/0.95 , Mitakon RF 50/0.95 ... Those cheap ultrafast prime lenses are awesome for nightscapes, astro, nightsky, milky way, northern lights, even in realtime video on R8. Can't wait to see the Sigma RF 16mm /1.4 ( it is made for crop sensor and will probably force-crop x1.6 but it's easy to hack that ;-)

Love this camera system.
Thanks for the in depth hands on experience. You described me as well so this helps!
The AF touch screen adjustment is been on canon camera since Canon EOS R.
How do you all got your R8's already??? Im from Germany and apparently we are getting it in July :((
What! Didnt know you can move focus using screen while watching EVF .
R8 or R7 to make video ?
Focus point touch screen is the same as the eos RP
I want this camera soooo bad
I want to run around Chicago and photo explore with you! I only live about 45minutes away! My wife and I will be out there May 5th for a Half Alive concert at the House of Blues!
r7 for me, until r6 mk2 price drops or maybe canon release another full frame body.
price isnt dropping when they have the canon r6, mark 1.
R8 looks like a great camera, only it’s £1700 in the uk. So I think it will stay on the shelf in some shops!
Haha yes the ultra boost from Addidas! I thinks 2020 model but all have been great to my feet and last looooong compared to Nike!
@@Pierretlambert I couldn't agree more! Those Nike users are just the worst. It is like they don't even know that Adidas is THE BEST!
I can't wait until the next model drops. I will run out and buy it IMMEDIATELY. Maybe even buy a custom shoe box so everybody can see I am not a noob!
@@realthoprivate Sarcasm doesn't translate well on RUclips.
"its poo poo" in 9:45 made me laugh LOL
i sold my sony a7 IV for this camera. And im rly rly happy with the R8
I’m looking at both of these cameras. What made you switch the R8?
No IBIS and Bad Battery killed it for me, sadly. Oh and the mich to expensive Lenses, so im sticking with sony
I clicked on this because the lens in the thumbnail looked cool, but the link in the description titled “the lens I used” takes me to a Sony 70-200 lens.
Does anyone know anything about the 50mm prime he used?
I have this camera and love it.
Absolutely beautiful photo work as usual Pierre.
Really loving how the R7 and R8 have been performing in the past few weeks and months. Definitely going to get it as another back up for my students in the future.
That 50 1.8 looks supercool and now I want to know where thst skin came from... If it is a skin👀👀👀
It’s a « GDU » lens :)
@@Pierretlambert ooo. Thank you thank you looking for that now
It's basically a rehoused RF 50 f/1.8. Very expensive.
@@marximus4 I just saw it a few hours ago. I know what you mean. When I first saw that the beginning of the video I thought it was exactly that but I still wanted to get the name. Now I got a couple of ideas of how to modify my own lenses at least cosmetically
nice cam
Make a video with a re View of the Canon 10r
Review of the canon 10r
"i like to hold the camera with one finger " umm Okay Chief ..
do you like to juggle cameras too ?
For street photography or anywhere you don't need to raise the ISO, I prefer the EOS R over the R8. As for indoor photography without speedlight or for photographing animals, the R8 does better because of the new sensor. I always use 600EX II-RT on my EOS R with ISO 50. That's why I still keep my EOS R. I don't usually use ISO above 100. But when I switch, I'll go for an R5.
Maybe you didn’t realise but the finger tracking on the screen while looking at the viewfinder is also on the R6 .
It has been on EOS cameras since ages. My EOS M50 MK I even has it.
Yea it is! :)
I usually just use the joystick but there isn’t one here
I found the joystick better as I sometimes activate it with my nose, … maybe it is too big 😂
Where did the red lens hood come from? Was it a lens hood or part of the lens?
This camera is a beast! It’s a real upgrade from my cropped sensor a6400 sony camera.
I have it 6400 with fckn 18-135 F3.5-5,6 a crappy combination, so that i ended using my 13 years old nikon D5100 which still takes decent photos but aged AF. So WHICH LENS DID U BUY???
Pierre comes with canon? Or will canon come separately? Asking for a friend!🤣
Haha 😂
2:10 Panasonic cameras have had this feature for literally over a decade now lol. How on Earth is Canon so far behind?
(2018) Canon m50 has the same touch screen focus thing...
great camera indeed, especially for travel lightweight, and extreme low-light, but what a shitty crappy slow kit lens... better get the body-only camera, unless - sometimes this happens - the kit with the crappy lens is cheaper. Can't wait to see the Sigma RF 16mm /1.4 ( it is made for crop sensor and will probably force-crop x1.6 but it's easy to hack that ;-)
Very nice 🎉🎉
