100% agree with you. I’m 65, just finished another week over 55 hours. Great pay, great benefits! I don’t know how the married people do it. When do the they see their families! Lots of 9pm punch outs. My kids are grown, nobody needs my attention when I get home. It’s something to think about.

I think it depends on your area / how fast you walk. Got guys in my area who take 10-11 hours daily intentionally sucking time for extra pay and got other guys who work 8-9 hours all year even during peak season and have worked every route we have. That being said, I’m in Ohio. So probably depends on 1.) the person and 2.) the area you live in and 3.) the route but again, my friend gets home every day around 4-5 having started at 9am and has done every route they have.
All told, probs ask a lot of the guys who work in the area I guess. Lol

Like my momma always said, I should’ve stayed in school.
But as far as blue collar work goes, it’s better than most.
Great benefits, great pay, good pension, and you can go 9.5, so you’ll be home with the fam bam after a 10hr shift a minimum of 3 days of the work week.

Hey man, I'm about to start my orientation as a full time UPS driver. Your videos have given me helpful insight into the job and what to expect, though some things may be different considering I'm North of the border. Quick question for you: how do you feel about playing music in the vehicle during your route? Is it something you do? Do you or would you find it an unnecessary distraction? I'm all for grabbing a truck putting on some tunes and making deliveries but haven't seen many people mention it. Let me know! Thanks!
P.S. Once I get comfortable with the job obviously! Don't plan on that for a long while still but just a nagging question.

Hey Randy, thanks for the videos. I'm interested in becoming a driver for UPS but I know most of the time it is difficult or at least takes a little while to get to that position. There is currently a position open in my town for a seasonal UPS driver. I have a decent full-time job at the moment, but I'm not sure I want to stay here long term. So, my question is: what are the odds of a seasonal driver job turning into a more full-time gig? Do you ever see it happen where someone gets hired seasonally and then gets full time regular from that? Or is it more likely that the seasonal job ends and that's it? Would love to get some feedback on this. Keep up the videos, man. Already liked and subscribed.

    • @emfromthechi

I was a package handler for 3 years and drove for 3 years after that. I left UPS and got my CDL and am doing much less physical work, averaging 50 hrs/week and making about the same that he does. I don't recommend UPS. Get your CDL or go to a trade school.

Luck and timing. I'm a former usps rural carrier that switched to UPS a few years ago before covid hit. Now we are always short-handed but UPS mostly hires from within...which comes in the form of working the 4-hour preload shift until you move up in seniority and wait your turn to get a chance at driving...or they have a handful of "off the street" hires (which is technically what I was since I wasn't working there prior) I don't know what the actual number is but say my local center can only hire 5 of those a year. I just happened to snag one of those spots thanks to a recommendation from a current employee

I don't know how i landed on your video but i work for USPS and I'm Tractor Trailer Operator been here for 8 years and making less than you ( $37 per hour) but I must say that I don't work not even a quarter as hard as you do, first of all it's 2 different positions and secondly because all i do is usually around 3-4 stations/stops per day not like most delivery drivers who have close to 200 stops per day and i have about 3-4 hours of down time every single day and i just work 8 hours per day but we do have a lot of overtime if you want to work it. Your benefits are by far superior than what the cheap federal government provides for us . I pay around $400 a month for my medical, dental and vision but it's for a family of 4 which is still pretty cheap and we get to choose from an array of insurance companies, we have a good pension and 401k which the government matches, after 3 years of employment you get 4 weeks of vacation plus all the federal holidays off and paid for and we also get lifetime medical insurance after retirement. Anyway nice video and i tried applying at UPS years ago but i didn't want to have to start as a loader and then a delivery driver just to get to be a Tractor Trailer Driver. At USPS they hireTractorTrailerOperator's off the street. I'm happy where I'm at since I don't work anywhere near as hard as most people and BTW I'm also a 23 year Teamsters Union member and now I'm an APWU member it's great when there are Union jobs still around. The biggest plus for me as a Tractor Trailer Operator is that i do get to see and spend more time with my family.
