    Black Friday is double time plus 8 hours holiday. So technically it’s around $133 an hour. One year I worked 14 hours because they made me stay and do on call air pickups in town. I made like $1,600 for that one day and bought my wife a stainless steel refrigerator she always wanted lol

      I was a package handler for 1.5 years and honestly the money was good. I made $700 in 13 hours as a driver helper but I don't picture myself working as a driver for 6 plus years to make max pay. its a great job, but not for everyone

      $133 an hour is absolutely ridiculous. I’m an Amazon driver based out of Carle Place NY (Long Island). They usually don’t let you work more than four days a week because when you’re an Amazon delivery driver, you’re not actually an employee of Amazon, you’re a contractor. Your third party company can’t afford to pay so much overtime but that doesn’t mean you can never work overtime. During the peak season they let you work five day weeks and when Amazon has their big Prime Day sale they let you work overtime because the volume doubles sometimes.

    Cover driver for over 30 routes here. I started at 39 years old and was killing it. I ended up wearing out my driver knee in a short time due to the long hours, and constant in and out of the truck. I averaged 55 hours a week and never took off days. At my former center the injury rate for driver that began their career in there late 30's or 40's is almost 100%. Many drivers have had full knee replacements, shoulder surgeries, etc. Money was great, but for me not amount of money is worth loosing my health. I left, and went back to teaching and I'm almost back to my normal self. That said, if you start this career off in your 20's and maintain fitness your body will adapt and you can have a great career.

    70% of the population will not be able to do this job. Too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter. 150 pick and delivery stops. Wake up at 5am to load your truck, and last pick up at 6pm, and after paperwork and get home around 8pm. Heavy loads with broken service elevators on the 50th floor. You have to meet delivery and pickup windows. If you’re late, you’re taking those packages back with you to the hub. Not to mention that load being in the isle all day. It takes a special someone to pull this off. Most of you won’t make it. Trust me.

I have experience as an actual delivery driver but UPS is a much different test on your body daily . I do ok , most days done in about 6 hours but its only half of what you guys do and im tired after its all said and done . I can imagine what 150-200 stop a day feels like 5-6 days a week lol. Plus side of that is you dont spend your money because you too tired to go out hahaha.

Most of my deliveries I was able to use a hand truck, but my truck was twice the size of a UPS truck.. But they have to do it ALL by Hand for the most part.. Usually one piece at a time... I’ve been trying to get on with UPS for awhile now. I deliver for Amazon. I too live in Oklahoma. OKC to be exact. I don’t wanna take a pay cut to work as a package handler for 3-4 years to maybe get picked to be a driver. I know sometimes they hire off street. Especially during peak. Would it best to apply during peak, kill it, roll the dice they keep me? Im late to the delivery game. I wish I had found this profession sooner but I’ve found my passion. Marriage and kids aren’t too far away and wanna be able to provide and support family. Amazon is fine right now but I want more. I know I can do this if given the chance. Only been delivering for about 2 years now but I’m already a lead driver and supervisor. Not a manager yet. Please reach out and give advice and or opinions. Thanks for the video, inspiring. Keep delivering.

      good luck trying to be a driver you have to find a busy hub. you will take a pay cut. the odds of you working for ups during the season for Christmas and then keeping you in January is 50-50 . but if your willing to take the pay cut and work part time and work hard then apply warehouse 1st and work your way up.

      From my understanding, a person has work in the warehouse and build seniority, first, in order to be promoted to a driver. Depending on his or her hub, a package handler could be working in the hub for several years in order for that to occur...
      With this pay increase, I am sure it is going to get much more competitive to get a driver position now. Therefore, if you are serious, take a look at job openings at your local UPS hubs.

I saw in an earlier vid you said you were accepted right away as a driver, I’ve also heard some have a run in with seniority, I’m getting mixed opinions and experiences, ALSO, I think this goes for almost every profession, if you’re doing the same thing over and over again everyday day it can seem to get old but how you prevent this on times or days when it feels like that?

    • @Chadthefatherbear
      @Chadthefatherbear 9 месяцев назад

      Getting hired as a driver off the street is VERY rare. The guy in this video is a rare case of that happening. The overwhelming majority of UPS delivery drivers had to spend 1-10 years as a part-time warehouse worker before their name on the driver waiting list came up. It is VERY rare to only have to wait a year. Most waited 2-5 years, many waited over 5 years. It depends on many factors but a good base for judging how long it will take is the size of the building you work in. Small buildings typically have a shorter wait because there are simply less people, so when drivers retire/move/quit, the list moves along faster. It is the opposite for larger buildings.

However I believe I will be returning to my home state (NC) in about 3ish or so years, is lateral transfers available with the company? Could I go from 1 year warehouse/2 years delivering and have that same time served transfer, have you heard of individuals going straight to another delivery position once the transfer is complete? brother i did the first day at UPS and its a tough job. preloading is hard man! you wouldnt think because its just putting boxes in trucks right? well it is but you have to keep up with putting these boxes in your truck at an insane rate. and they will give you 2 to 3 trucks to fill. i got 2 my first day and i felt i did pretty bad, but so did everyone else because you cant perfectly put everything in the truck in an orginized manner with the volume of boxes. now if you want to get hired its easy because people quit a lot. i applied online and they scheduled my first day. a couple weeks later we got there for orientation and the people were very chill, the supervisors were very nice. they asked some questions and they said to all 13 of us that were hired. they also said we would be let go if we dont show up to work on time and show up the first 30 working days. they did some half ass trainng, then we watched videos for for the next 2 days. no one was paying attention to the videos, and i was wondering why training was half ass? but the first day i realized why. BECAUSE ITS CONTROLLED CHAOS THE FIRST 2 HOURS, BUT AFTER YOUR FIRST 15 MINUTE BREAK ITS JUST CHAOS. everything you learned, or sorta learned goes out the window because you got 15 packages needing to go on shelfs while the shelfs are full, while theres boxes coming down the line. tough fast paced work, but if you dont live in a rich family to get you into college or something like that this may be your best option. im going to keep trucking along because i dont have any better option right now, and the night schedule works good for me. you will know the first day if you can handle it or not. me being a strong 6ft under 16% body fat guy, i can barely handle it, but i can handle it. oh and icase you were wondering why am i talking about a warehouse job i want to be a truck driver, YOU HAVE TO WORK AT THE WAREHOUSE FOR USUALLY ATLEAST A YEAR TO BECOME A TRUCK DRIVERS.

      me personally I would move to a bigger city so you can advance faster. I started in the warehouse working midnight till 4 am part time and after a year I applied for package driver for the Christmas season. I did that for 3 and 1/2 months and they sent me back to the warehouse. last year in In spring they called me again for package driver I said no. but I still was in warehouse part time. then they called for Feeder driver at a big hub and I said yes. took me about 2 years and I'm in Chicago. if I were you find the air port hub by you because it's gonna be busy start from the bottom and work your way up. if you get accepted now for package driver remember your probably a seasonal driver and come January they let you go or keep you its a 50/50 chance you stay on a driver that's why I went warehouse because if I did seasonal and they don't keep well I'm still at ups. don't go to a small hub ask drivers where you live where is the biggest hub by you. good luck and don't rush the money will come.
