Everyone seems to be trying to bust down the door now to get in with UPS since they foolishly made it public how much they will be making. All that does is attract people who only want the money fast. It’s not an easy job. If all you’re doing is counting how much money you’re making all day long , you’re an accident waiting to happen. I’ve been making north of 115k as a foodservice cdl truck driver for the last 10 yrs. Been a cdl driver for 18 yrs..And yes I’m home everyday. I worked myself damn near to a stupor one year trying to get the biggest bag possible by taking extra routes, bidding on the biggest routes, etc. Working 65 hr weeks. Made $137k. I have no recollection of the better part of that entire year. It all is a blur to me. In the end all I did was pay a lot of it to Uncle Sam. Now I “settle” for just over 100k on about 50 hrs a week. My body feels way better. I don’t sleep the entire damn weekend away. It’s not about how much you make, it’s about how much you keep!

For aome.its 190 -200 stops a day and we are expected to do 22 stops per hour at a fast pace meaning literally running up and down customers properties. Running up and down 3 flights of stairs in apartment complexs back to back which can tire anyone after a few times doing it but you are expecting not to get tired and not fall behind..and encourage not to take are breaks or lunch to get done sooner also expecting not to bri g any packages back to the station..doing this all with a camera in the van Monitoring your driving.. I'm working as an SSD this year. I love delivering. I've already developed a relationship with several of the stops and they cut up with me when I bring their packages by. There is one business that told me it would be great if they got their stuff sooner in the day as it puts them in a bind otherwise. I've bumped them up and stop by a lot earlier. They've really appreciated that effort. I'd love to be a driver for UPS. I know it can have it's ups and downs, especially with the weather, but I can't imagine making the kind of money you guys make. I'd never leave if I had a job like yours.

Definitely not a bad gig. I would still encourage people to still get their Class A CDL's if you really want to drive. It's completable in about a month, the starting wage would be pretty close to a 40 hour week at UPS and by the time your 4 years in you'll have way more and higher income opportunities with the class A especially if you get some endorsements. You could own a semi truck, and or have your own freight business very comfortably by 4 years in. You'll travel way more, and you're on your own away from a manager or a strict company. And if UPS is really calling your name they have class A jobs aswell. This is a good opportunity, but remember to use opportunities to keep growing! Drive safe!

Bro, you sound pretty satisfied. I hope you're pro union all of the way and understand the importan, possibly even more from your blood line after you're long gone and workers generations after you. Always remember, you may feel you're doing well, however, our owners could care less about you while making astronomical amounts of money. This is a very taxing job, both mentally and physically, shoulder, back, knees, etc. I've seen it destroy the lives of men during their tenure and after retirement. We deserve every penny we get because of this. So never ever be complacent with your worth as owners and ceos will always dwarf us by millions of what we make from our hard honest work. Good video, just feel it's lacking our worth and effort to make this the company that we are. Let the young guys know that if they run, or burn up the route, it puts other drivers at the risk of harassment, job loss, and mental issues. Maybe this video couldn't fit everything in and i understand that. Regardless we are brothers in the same union. Respect 💪🏾

Considering inflation and even before inflation, we are barely middle class. That's even managing money properly. Either you're a millionaire, billionaire, or you're hating on those demanding high profit corporations to not send the majority of the country into hardship. We know the unions have it's corruption, but without it, we'd be in poverty. So what are you saying??

I started with 09, 11 years with the with the company resigned from the career in 2018.
In my younger years the money was great, OT, especially peak season. As a single guy it was awesome.
The reality It’s a lot of work hard on your body. Especially your knees, that you feel as you age. I was on 9-5 list on during regular season which was hard to get on but it was good, but I had file reports for every time I was work I went over the time. They had to send new drivers to get stops off so I can be back by 5:30 :) which was awesome but this after years of service an OG high seniority driver.
Yea of course your own boss meet to people but your away from own family. New driver won’t be back into the building till 9,10pm.. or even later that’s not life. To even get a day off wasn’t a option unless your kissing the manager and supervisor ass and wiping. Especially during graduation day for the kids forgot about unless you have high seniority it’s not happening and your missing your kids special day.
I got married had kids. The time you miss away from home, kids events at school, family time. You miss those moments and they only comes once! I choose to retire from the company for this reason.
Haven’t regretted it.. I get to see my kids grown up attend school
Event etc , I also took the advantage and went back to school now I am in aviation technical A&P. My office is a hanger with planes. I work reasonable hours / I get OT when I want I get paid more money here.

    • @sdr24
      @sdr24 8 месяцев назад +1

It’s hard to say man. It just depends how well your hub is planning with staffing or failing to plan with staffing.
Some hubs, the new junior drivers are being forced to work six day workweeks almost every week due to lack of drivers. The new contract is supposed to prevent this happening as much.
Then other times, there’s so little package volume that the junior drivers are getting laid off half the days of the week and told not to come in. At these times the junior guys have basically try to find work wherever they can get it. Either by commuting to much more distant centers to help out for the day, or by bumping guys off preload or unload shifts and working in the center.
And sometimes there’s enough package volume for extra routes, but the management cut the routes anyway because corporate is screaming at them to cut costs too much. So junior drivers get laid off for the day, and the senior drivers get absolutely massacred with overloaded routes picking up the extra deliveries and pickups for the cut routes.
Happened to me for about three weeks straight. I was senior enough not to get laid off, but my route was ridiculously overloaded. I wound up doing 13 hour days almost all five days of one week and even came into the center 8 minutes shy of 14 hours one day.

There is seasonal driver helper jobs. Is it worth it? Pay is Low. Could this help one decide if they want to apply for Delivery? Hours were taken up for warehouse seasonal package helpers. Surprised there is no Match on 401k, but pension is better anyway.

Took 4 years to hit top rate. I started as a peak seasonal driver and they kept me after Christmas for a full time position!
