On this episode of Mission Side Hustle, we get back to working with Mission Movers and finish some hauling jobs. Ideally, I prefer the junk removal jobs to the hauling jobs, but we'll take what we can get. In all reality, this may be our last moving jobs as I've been discovering additional red tape to get through. So because of that, we'll likely focus on junk hauling jobs only in the future.
All of that said, we make some good money and finally cross over a major milestone.
As always, thank you all for watching. Don't forget to subscribe for more videos like this and to join the journey to one million dollars!

Just for transparency sake, I still have some things to figure out if I'm going to continue any moving jobs. The great part about youtube is that many of you are happy to help give me tips when needed. I've learned I need to line up some specific insurances and business fillings outside of just the LLC I have created in order to operate legally, which is a given! Once this gets done, I'll be sure to include that in a future episode. You all are the best! 🤘

I love these videos! You have an awesome channel. Here's some tips since I started and ran a Junk Removal Company (before Covid happened):
      1) Get insurance ASAP! Larger companies that pay more and need junk removed will not hire you unless you show proof of insurance
      2) Bring a sawzall, sledge hammer, circular saw, and as many tools as you think you'll need for any job (they come in handy for larger furniture, hot tubs, etc.). Get a tool box for your truck.
      3) Hydraulic dump trailers are worth every penny, you'll have an amazing ROI and get your money back in less than a year. They're pricey but your jobs and dump runs are x10 faster, meaning more jobs you can get done in a day.
      4) Don't rent your trailer out. Some people will want it to save them money and the convenience for you to not load seems great, but my experience is that most people will throw items in there that are not accepted at landfills (paint, freon appliances, etc.) and you can get fined or may no longer be allowed to dump at that landfill.
      5) Talk to Real Estate Agents! The majority of my jobs were from people that had moved and left junk at the house that needed to be hauled off before the new buyers came. They pay really well too.
      6) Craigslist was the most effective marketing in my area. $5 post went a long ways and I just reposted about 2-3 times a week. 2nd best was Google. If you show up at the top and have good reviews, you'll be called all the time.
      7) Take before and after pictures after every job! It's great for instagram and facebook but can help you in customer disputes as well. I had a customer try to claim that I didn't haul away everything they wanted in a burn pile (they had mattresses, furniture, etc.) and the negotiated deal was that I'd take everything except the wood. I took pictures before and after the job. They wanted me to come back, and when I did, they had added MORE junk to the burn pile. Turns out their neighbors wanted some free junk removed after I came by and they tried to SCAM me! But I had the pictures to prove it. Plus it was the Real Estate Agent that was covering for the job, it was a very bad situation and I called the agent and let them know. Cover your butt!
      8) Give discounts for military and seniors and be willing to negotiate your price with customers for reviews when you first start (leverage lower prices with reviews!!!)
      9) Have a set pricing system that you go by, do not post it on your website, and NEVER give quotes over the phone or through a picture message. They "magically" grow when you arrive and then it's hard to renegotiate the price. Keep your pricing system professional. It takes practice. You can go by the hour or go by the load volume. I had a 16ft trailer so it was easy to judge and price. Some people add fees for freon items, etc., that's up to you.
      10) Post every picture you have on all of your platforms. The more the better! Videos are awesome too!
      11) Don't accept help from 3rd party companies like Yelp, etc. They'll bring you poor leads and you still have to pay them.
I hope this helps you out! I loved junk removal because of the huge profit margins, but I got burnt out and Covid was the final nail in the coffin. I learned so much from stepping out and trying it, I don't regret doing it one bit. It's opened a lot of doors for me and I'm better because of it. Hope this works well for you!

@@MissionSideHustle lol good call! Lol hey man, I just had a thought. Think it might make a cool quick bit. If I’m right, it seems like you’re trying to show people how to start broke and go to a million. Essentially business education made easy. If I’m right in that, I think it’d be a cool lit bit for you to explain ROI between moving and maybe the flipping. I imagine, the overall hour return on flipping has been way more profitable then say the hourly on moving. Although moving can be more consistent. Again a cool bit to explain “yes when flips work they’re great, but if I need constant income, moving works even if it pays less.” I hope this makes sense I’m sure you understand where I’m getting at. Just thought it might be an of interest to you. Anyhow, loving the content man. I still got your email, haven’t meant to ignore. Just been trying to think of a way to make it a fun video between us. You are right in that when you are first starting out you have to break the “rules” a little bit. I used to advertise on Craigslist in the wrong category for example. Another one is that It was years until I had a general contractor license. I did get insurance early but there was almost a year in the beginning where I had no insurance or even an LLC. They make it very hard for someone starting out to get ahead in business. It’s why the middle class is dying. So rock on and keep doing what you are doing until problems arrive. Then you simply fix them as they come with the proper insurances, etc.

Do you rent a hauler trailer or do you own one. And if you own one where do you keep it when detached, I ask because I live in an apartment I don't know how I would manage that, maybe I need to be clear with the brokers about this when I am approached for a job.

Do you have the decal on the side of your truck for the moving business? When you were loading the second load, it looked like you were blocking the street, as you were backed up to the driveway, to make the loading easier for yourself. I'd think people who don't use your service, that were annoyed by you blocking the road, would write bad reviews. But it may have been a short period of time and not inconvenienced anyone... or it may have been at the end of a court or something.

What is your advice for someone who wants to do what you are doing but lives in an area with significantly fewer people? The opportunity to earn a comparable amount of money is simply not there.

You need to move to bigger city/area to make it work. If that's not doable then make the drive to the biggest city near you every chance you get. Spend the day there, work all day, then drive home. I've had a lot of success doing this until I made the decision to move into the city. This is my full time gig now. If i ever hit a slow week/month, i supplement with UberEats. Better money than I've ever made anywhere else

Yeah, just gotta do what ya gotta do when it comes to advertising. I have several Facebook accounts under different names. I find that when I make a female name I sell more... and the fun part is that I will 'friend' my actual friends and then catfish them for a few hours. lmao

I have a question about taxes. I’m in Canada and the tax laws of course would have their differences between here and there. I’m going to assume that technically you are subject to income taxes at the state and or federal level. Will that be calculated into the channel net worth eventually and if not aren’t you a little concerned with how public your activities are? Thank you

I would charge a per mile rate when towing with your own vehicle. Because $40 in gas won't buy you a new transmission or tires etc. Just saying. Keep up the good work though

    • @mrmattdoesstuff
      @mrmattdoesstuff 3 года назад

I would say depending on distance you ought to charge a flat rate plus per mile/kilometer.
