Hey all, the table wobble was simply from one of the adjustable feet that was still extended from previous owners, it was easy to adjust so it no longer wobbles... but I'm kicking myself for not noticing until after we filmed!
Good for you giving up coffee! And yes, the table and chairs look great. It’s Always nice a wood piece of furniture gets a new life instead of going to the landfill.
I did one of these table sets in white with a walnut stained top - and I loved it til I saw this video!! Love love love the green :-) Now I have to redo mine!!
I am so happy I found this channel. wow. You guy really are so amazing. I wish you had started sooner. Cant wait to see Renos if your into that sort of thing
Yay, I'm glad you did too! I wish I would've listened to Dean sooner haha, renos are definitely my favorite and I'm sure we'll have more of those down the road! I'm planning our kids' bathrooms currently and Dean wants to document those :)
Andrea, you are just the best. I watch your work with such passion. I am hoping i can follow your footsteps. You are such an inspiration. Love the team work. Yoi do wonders.
So sanded my marked, worn out farm house oak table ( with two panels) and seven chairs (same as above but bigger). The sanded wood on table top came up GORGEOUS! I decided to stain top with white with VARATHANE CLASSIC - WHITE WASH (oil). It did not sink in as much as I hoped as you could still see A LOT of the pine colour below. Did a second coverage after light sanding and waiting a few hours. White still not as deeply sunken into the wood, but I decided I could live with it. it said let dry for 2-3 hour but I let it dry over night. After waiting over night I just used the WIPE-ON POLY (CLEAR SATIN). Gutted........ it seemed to dilute the white wash already on table and began to removed it. Now the table is much lighter and almost looks pine AGAIN. Instructions on White wash, did say : 'to complete wood project and for best protection finish with Varathane WATER BASED Polyurethane, in gloss, satin or matt'. However, as I've watched MANY videos, that suggest poly wip- on oil based will provide a lmore resilient and longer lasting finish, if the surface is actually going to be used to place warm plates or regular spills and wipe ups. One video actually said using water based polycrylic on tables can cause the white cloudy marks to appear through the varnish. We actually had white cloudy ring mark on this table before I sanded it which is why I wanted to avoid that. I'm guessing the problem is putting oil based vanish over oil based stain? Any suggestions? I'm feeling like I'm going to have to sand it back lightly and white wash it white with paint, but not I'm sure if I should use latex(water based), acrylic (chemical?) or oil, based so that the Poly wipe on will not wipe off the finish, as there is already oil based paint sunken into the wood now. Never Varathane wood stain white wash before on table, I wont use it anymore either as basically it DOES NOT ABSORB IN TO THE WOOD very well and leaving it longer before wiping off makes it look more like paint....... Maybe I should have used a white stain not white wash? Fire away with suggestions...... one frustrated mama! BTW: The table looks lovely as it is smooth and even as I just worked with the wipe-on to even out the white wash and ensure not streaks........ so it just looks mostly pine and ill have to see it EVERY DAY.....
Ugh that’s so frustrating! There are always projects that go like that (I’m working on a huge set where I’m stripping then staining a lot of it and having similar frustrations). Ok so any top coat will usually make your piece look slightly “darker” similar to if you put a little water on freshly sanded wood. If you’re wanting it even lighter here’s my idea...I just used general finishes gel stain in the white color go try and fix a similar issue to yours. It’s still oil based so it applies easier than a water based paint wash in my opinion, it’s challenging not to get a streaky look on really large surfaces with water based because it dries so fast. Anyway, the gel stain can go over existing finishes so it would work over what you’ve done so far without having to remove it all. Just give it a light scuff sand first :)
DIY Wife Thank you for taking the time to reply. That sounds like a plan. Im going to try it. I just refinished four beat up old hollow doors on two closets in a community room, put fake panels on them, and tried to cut corner by using deck stain I already had. I planned to wipe it off, but like you said, it dried so quickly it was difficult to work with and was super dark grey. I even sanded them back, but they were still too dark. I ended painting them white again and using Varathane gel stain (oil based) in weathered gray and they came out AWESOME! I noticed then there was so much time to play with which before stain dried, and thats is why I thought the oil based white wash would be easier as it was oil. Hopefully, the Wipe On Poly will not wipe off the next finish too. Im thinking I may have to find a spray on polyurthene in oil based (if there is one) as even brushing it on may wipe the stain off. Trial and error is how we learn but the error parts are never pleasant...thank you again!
Another great video!! Love your work and you two make such a great team! Could you share some tips on how you edit your photos sometime? Keep the flips coming!
If you are near Round Rock & ever need storage or enclosed work space, I have 3 car garage/storage that needs use. I’d love to donate space … to watch your skill sometime. Lol I’m retired nurse… I love free education! Lol
I have the same dining table which the previous owner left behind in my now townhome 15+ year ago, my husband like it but I (still) hate it, so much didn't know what to do until I just saw your video, now I plans so let's see what the outcome would be. Thanks for the idea.
i guess Im asking randomly but does someone know of a method to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Gianni Marco I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Ok... so I am getting excited about refinishing the dressers in the basement with my youngest daughter's help. Tomorrow I am taking her driving (she just got her permit) and we are going to stop and look at paint color options. The question I have after watching this video.... Do you seal your top coat of paint? Do you use a paint that has a built-in sealer? Basically what do you use to protect the final coat? I thought I saw the green paint you used also had a urethane finish built-in, or do I have that incorrect? Ok no more rambling. Thanks in advance.
I'm trying to give myself a little pep talk on that piece currently haha... I bought it as a set with 6 chairs and none of it has gone as planned so it's currently still sitting in my garage unfinished and taunting me.
Thank you! Yeah, I never read the descriptions, I just go to the video..lol, I have to start reading them.. :) Thank you, keep up the awesome job you guys do.
That green is a winner for sure. I have the same table in oak that's about 90 yrs old. I want to do it over in a very light stain. It has several bad water stains that I need to deal with first. Any suggestions? Oxalic acid or household bleach are the only 2 things I've heard of but never tried either. Loved the finish on yours!!!
Do you know if the top is veneer? I'm honestly not an expert at repairing antiques, but I would google ways to deal with the water stain in case there's something I'm not thinking of. If the top is solid wood, sanding should take care of it. You just have to be careful if it's a thin veneer on top though, it's so easy to accidentally sand through it (ask me how I know!). I've tried bleaching wood but wasn't happy with my results, but that'll work differently with different kinds of wood. It can be tricky to get a really light finish, as most wood will look a lot darker with just a clear coat on. For me, my favorite way to achieve that look is using watered down acrylic paint. I have another example of this in our next video, I "stain" an entire piece using this to help blend the different kinds of wood I used.
Thanks, Sue! I think it's been aggravating some autoimmune problems I've been dealing with, so I'm trying cutting it out for a while... a little sad, especially with 4 kiddos haha.
May I ask what sprayer you use? Do you love it? Can you do quarts or only gallons? I currently have an aircompressor and hplv. I like it and the finish is great. Clean up fast. But I have to refill often. Thanks for your input! Love your channel!
I used my airless for this one, but I’ve actually switched to almost only using my hvlp for furniture because I don’t need as much paint and it just seems a lot easier for smaller projects like a piece of furniture (when I’m doing one at a time). With the airless I do use a gallon, it takes an entire quart just to prime the line. For bigger projects though I love it! The exact one I have isn’t made any longer (from harbor freight) but I have a few similar options linked in some of our recent videos if that’s helpful.
Hey love the just came across ur channel love the vids can’t stop watching them just came up on this one wanted to ask twist did u put n the chairs sitting part so the paint won’t rub off from all the traffic and the paint would hold I watch it twice to see if u mentioned anything but notice that u didn’t going to Tack on the same project on my own dinner table and gave 2 young kids

I want to get this same look on a pair of small console tables we were just gifted. Do you have a suggestion for the top coating if instead of the emerald paint you used, we went with something that didn't have that built in top coat? Dark paint on the legs with the sanded wood on top. Would a polyurethane over the whole piece work?
Hey all, the table wobble was simply from one of the adjustable feet that was still extended from previous owners, it was easy to adjust so it no longer wobbles... but I'm kicking myself for not noticing until after we filmed!
You really are an artist. Turning the off trend table into something super modern and desirable.
The colour really is the best! 🤗
Good for you giving up coffee! And yes, the table and chairs look great. It’s Always nice a wood piece of furniture gets a new life instead of going to the landfill.
Would you do a video on how you make the wood bottom that you put on most of your furniture?
It’s in a prior episode.
I would be interested too. The bases you do are artistic yet streamlined. G Ire
I love your videos :) Incredible how spray painting the furniture gives it such a smooth finish! Love the two tone white wood and green :)
You guys are my new favorite channel! Quality videos and workmanship! Love your personalities!
I have this exact table that I got from FB too haha. Thank you for the inspiration, mine definitely could use a makeover too!
You complement each other so well! I look forward to future videos not only because of the content but because of your interaction with each other.
Yep, one of my favourite colours too.
I love this ! I have same table! Lol … and I think your bases are stunning! They make the finishing touch & compliment your talent & hard work!!! …

On the bottom of the feet of the table are adjusters to level the table so it won't tip. .......(unique stands by itself).

Awesome
Another flip for the (so much) better. Beautiful. And I’d like to ask if there was any special reason the table wasn’t sanded, apart from the top.
You're the Ana White of flips!!!
This emeraldgreen is s o beautiful 😻
New to the channel, you two are hilarious you made me smile. That table is just beautiful. How do you manage to spray in the winter?
We're in Texas so the weather still gets warm enough to paint some days even during the winter :). It's the summer that gives us trouble!
Ok... so I am getting excited about refinishing the dressers in the basement with my youngest daughter's help. I’ve found that I actually prefer a less expensive paint with a top coat on top vs just the urethane but itself :)
*by itself
You're so gifted Andrea!
Will you be doing something with the table in the background?? I have the same one and would love to see what you come up with!
I'm trying to give myself a little pep talk on that piece currently haha... I bought it as a set with 6 chairs and none of it has gone as planned so it's currently still sitting in my garage unfinished and taunting me.
Honestly gorgeous!
Thank you
Such a great table! And that green is an amazing color!! What flooring is in your sunroom? It’s so gorgeous
Love the color you chose! And how you did a light wash on the bare wood for the top.
Future ideas a ombré wood stained table omg I’d die for
Beautiful!!! Have you ever makeover a door? Inside door I mean... I m looking for inspiration...
Not more than just painting at this point! I bet Pinterest would have some helpful inspiration though :)
This looks amazing. Did you solve the table wobble?
Awesome flip you guys, what's the name of the green you use.. Can't wait to see the other project from scratch. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks! I usually put the color in the description (just so you know where to find that if you'd like in the future). This was SW shade grown ;)

@@diywife I'm so sorry to hear that! Praying for you and your sweet family!! : )
Love the color! Can't wait for an update. Did you sell it?
Thanks! We did finally sell for $300, tables definitely seem to be harder to sell where we are!

Do you have any instructions on how to thin out the paint for the sprayer? Like a specific amount of water you add or if you even add water?
