Learn how to paint a wood like Pottery Barn finish onto an old dresser! I use Rustoleum Decorative Glaze or you could use Aged Oak Gel Stain on top of Behr Rugged Tan to achieve the look.
❤️ I enjoy sharing my intellectual property with RUclips but I ask that you not share these techniques step by step on your social media platforms 🙏
Hi! My name is Shannon and I own a little business called Black Sheep House where I refinish furniture. This business provides our family with extra income and is a major creative outlet for me! I started this channel to help others to make their homes more beautiful and to help other furniture painters learn tips to increase their skills. I'm glad you're here! I prefer you not share these techniques step by step on your social media platforms 🙏
PRODUCTS USED:
Primer - Zinnser 123
Paint - Behr Rugged Tan - Premium Plus Interior Semi Gloss Enamel
Glaze - Rustoleum Decorative Glaze - Brown
Dry Brush Paint - Sample of Behr paint - Color: Natural Twine (samples usually only come in flat sheen and that just fine for dry brushing)
Deck staining brush 5 Inch size Is what I use
Chip brush
Zibra 2.5 inch angled brush is my fav but any brush
Small size natural Wisk broom - found In cleaning Isle at Home Depot
Topcoat- General Finishes Oil based polyurethane applied with a chip brush and I just throw away chip brush after use. If you prefer a water based topcoat use Varathane poly or Minwax polyurethane Is good too!
If you prefer Lowe’s for paint the base color you need is Baltic Birch and I’m sure they have a brown decorative glaze of some sort and then a light yellow/gold color for dry brushing
I did this to our kitchen table. It looks great & is holding up well so far. 8 months ago. Get many compliments. Thank you!
So happy to hear this!! ❤️
Hi, did you paint the legs black? What paint did you use? Thanks!
@@juanitasingleton1149 No. The whole table had a black finish. I only refinished the top. Used Benjamin Moore Regal Select paint mixed w/ zinnser primer.
@@blacksheephouse k9
I’m on the topcoat. Did you lightly sand between adding each coat?
This has to be the coolest effect I have seen on furniture. What an inspiration! Love the finished product.
I finally did my dining room, and it looks phenomenal. This was the second time doing anything like this. I'm so proud of myself. Thank you so much for this tutorial.
This looks amazing. I need to try this. you make it look so easy. I have the perfect piece to do this on.
As far as the General Finishes arm-r-seal… it is amazing. I love it. I do woodworking and it’s my go to. I was sold after working in a table shop. We made tables for the wine bar that opened in the gallery. I saw the daily wear and tear on those tables and the finish held up amazingly. I also used it on a table two years ago that my daughter now has. It was intended as a desk that my mom used. But my daughter is now using it as a kitchen table. She has an 18 month old and it is holding up so well. Great stuff.
I’ve watched this video at least 6 times and I’m planning to do my table & chairs with your method. My only question is. How has it held up these past 10 months with your move and busy family ?
Omg...so glad this came up in my recommendations. I’ve been thinking about repainting and/or refinishing my 20 year old dining room table that’s made of the same thing and this is just PERFECT. Thank you for the inspiration!
It’s so gorgeous. Don’t even have words for it.
I appreciate you taking the time to list all the products. Makes everything so much easier and I feel more confident in tackling projects like this. Love your channel and keep up the good work!
❤️❤️ thank you!
Hi... great videos! It's ok to use water base products and oil based products together?
Where is the list of products found?
I have to say the detail you give in your tutorials are incredible. A beginner like myself really appreciates that and also you listing the products used in the drop down. I've seen a lot of videos, but if they don't list products used in drop down I refuse to subscribe, but I'm certainly subscribed to you. Thanks luv
This came out beautifully! You are so kind to share this with such detail.
I was just about to throw my old dining table and your video is a savior
Yes! Thank you! I have had a round table that I have wanted to refinish for so long and today I was feeling fed up with it and literally got on RUclips to find just the right tutorial and I didn't even have to search! It was at the top of my feed when I opened RUclips! Perfect! Thank you!
That’s so awesome!!! Love RUclips!
I was so excited to see the video was up!!!
I loved watching what was going on with the fireplace. I really love seeing the little kids playing out in the yard on the trampoline. They are living their best life! As are you and Shane!
Thank you for this video! I did this on my round kitchen table and it came out so beautiful!
I just used this exact method and products for my table and I'm ecstatic with how beautifully it turned out. It really does have a faux wood look. Thank you, thank you for such a great tutorial.
I love your pottery barn videos. I use a toothbrush for small areas and edges. Works great! I love your version of this finish!! -Tammy ( your Georgia neighbor)
EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for! Thank you!
Hi, I tried it, darker (more greyish) and everyone likes it so it's going to be our dining room table 😉 I would show you but I have no idea how to post a picture to you 😁 just wanted you to know that I did it!
I really would love to see your table!
Hi Janet Smith, just wondering how did you make it more grayish, I will like my table more grey but to my surprise this stuff don’t come in grey😞
Would you please share what you used for the grey?
@@pammcwilliams6426 I used a base of cream paint mixed with a grey making it more of a dirty cream if that makes sense and I then used a smoked walnut stain on top. But you can get grey stains here in the UK now.
Great ideas. Thank you so much, I will give it a try! 🤞
You’re an artist! Look at you swaying back and forth to get that finish, you are ALL in! I love watching, thank you!!
You are truly talented. This table came out amazing and I’ve never seen this technique before. Keep up the good work.
Woohoo! Thanks so much for the support on my small channel!
Exactly! When people are talented, sometimes they don't realize it's not everyone or it's even a thing. Yeah, excellent work!
Amazing! I am getting ready to makeover my dining table and this is the technique I’ll use! Thank you for being so specific about how you did it and with what “tools”!
We did this to our kitchen table about a year ago. Holding up great. We love it!
I’ve been waiting to redo my 20 year old table for so long I’m going to try it , keep putting table furniture ideas from pottery barn n others I just love it
OMG I love this result!!! This is truly a more affordable technique!
Oh this is awesome. I actually need to make my fan blades look "wood" like so I'm going to try this. As well as on my small file cabinet that needs to be repainted.
Que bella , cual son los nombres de los tintes ?
That’s a great idea!
Thank you so much for your video!!!! I just finished finishing a dining table with your technique and I love it!
Love to hear that!
Omg she made this so easy . I can’t wait to redo my dining.
We are mother and daughter furniture flippers as well. Really like your glazing technique. Can't wait to give it a try. Thanks for sharing.
you look like a professional that looks great you do it just like I would do it I'm a 72-year-old grandmother and I've refinished about I've done trash to Treasures Thrift Stores yard sales curbside furniture for my house and excellent pieces of furniture that we're in good shape and I redid them and you do just like I did I did my dining room table it is so nice you're doing a good job keep up the good work
Thank you for the kind words!!!
Just finished my table and I’m in love 😍 thank you for the idea and the very helpful video!
I did this to my dining room table and it looks so amazing
Table looks beautiful. I love the round tables for dining and for playing board games. They are a perfect shape.
I agree! Much more conversational
Absolutely love how this table top turned out. So beautiful !! I'm going to try it on a small table.Thank you for this video.
If I had only known this was possible sooner! It came out amazing! I love it!
That is beautiful! What a Nice upgrade. The deck staying brush is an awesome idea for some texture!
I use this technic with oil based i choose a white color for the base then I mixed clear varnish with some paint and I applied the trick of faux wood with my brush and I was so proud with the final result of
wardrobe it looks so good
Beautiful just beautiful. Nice table as well. Thanks. Old clothes and an old hat looks better than a lil black dress on someone as pretty as you. Your husband is extremely lucky and I hope he realizes what he has.
Just Beautiful
Love this application ! I did mine with smoke gray glaze!
Thank you soooo much for sharing this technique. I have a coffee table that I painted a creamy color years ago after I had inadvertently sanded through the veneer. It was high time for a second makeover, but I just didn’t know what to do. Then I saw your video. My only regret with this project is that I used an oil based primer and it didn’t level well at all so you can see so many surface flaws (totally my fault). I may redo with this same technique in the future.
Great project with a beautiful result :) Thank you❤
A little tip: It`s so much easier to use a quality fiber cloth for cleaning or wiping dirt off. It gets into all nukes and crannies.
Table is gorgeous.
You have answered a question that has been bothering me for a couple of years! Free kitchen table that i eant to look like the PB finish. Its that orangey tabletop color. And i knew it would be work! I too afore working eith General Finishes products! Thank you! Thank you! Finally excited to get started!!
This really looks nice! Thank you!
That cake out beautiful, really does look like wood!!
I have the same table, im ready to give it a makeover. I love how your table turned out! 🤍
Love, love, love!! Thank you for sharing.
This is my first time seeing your video and your table is beautiful. I wanted to do a wood look on my old table and your video came up as a recommendation I am so delighted that it did, you make this job look so easy....thank you!
Awesome!
I love that gel stuff, worked with it a few times. It took me a while to figure out that I could just wipe it off with a wet towel if I messed up and simply do it over.
I'm working on our dining set now, but it is getting the valspar finish (your technique to get the smooth finish is perfect, Thanks!). Oh no, now I want your table...
I did this finish, I absolutely Love it it's a little end table Looks so French Country and finish looks just like your table, So Sweet Thank You!!😅😅😅😊❤
How long did u wait before applying yellow paint with dry brush, then how long did u wait to apply poly?
Wow! This table really turned out in a lovely way. It’s actually the first project I’ve seen on YT that’s achieved the same thing I’m looking to create…Roughly a sort of a barn washed board look..without the splinters! I have nearly the exact table hiding in a corner under a standard round blue linen tablecloth - but I’d like to get it pretty enough to show a new face to the world and ditch that 1980’s vibe. It’s now an ACTION ITEM, as we saw in our house…thanks so much for posting this…an excellent introduction to a cool method of glazing!
Wow! Just ❤️❤️ How it Turned Out 👍👏
What a Great Method ❤️
I’m Definitely Going to Try this Method! Thank You SO Much for sharing 😊
Wow I'm shook at how beautiful it came out. 1st time on your channel and was like what in the world is she doing she ruined the table. I never would've guessed. Shook, amazing work.
Looooove this video!!!
I'm going to try this on the top of an entry table I will be painting a dark teal.
Thank you!!
You're my favorite!! 😀
Yay!!!! Thanks for your support on my channel!!
Happy I tan across this video, I just started my table and chairs.
Yay!!
@blacksheephouse I used your method and mine came out amazing! Thank you for such a great tutorial.
This is beautiful! I think I'm going to do this to my table. The veneer is chipped in several places, so I've thought about filling and painting. But I like the wood look, so this would be perfect.
I just saw your video and WOW -amazing outcome! I have some Ethan Allen nesting tables i would like to do this with and think i will follow your color scheme for them. Thanks for the inspiration!
Just did it, it's still drying. It's so cool! TYVM!
This is just the video I needed to see! My daughter wants me to redo her tv console table to match her coffee table and other furniture.Farmhouse rustic style. The finish needs to look similar to this but I'll use grey paint instead of tan to try to match.I'll definitely buy the deck staining brush and whisk broom for this project. In the past I've used regular brushes which don't give the same wood grain result. Thanks!❤
Omg first of all what a FIND this table & chairs were! This turned out beautifully! I have a piece in my family room and now I am thinking of giving this a try. You are so very talented and thanks for showing us all of your tips & tricks! ❤️
BRILLIANT!! You just got another subscriber with this beauty!
You did such a great job on this Potterybarn finish. I really enjoyed this video 👍 Hope to try to finish one day soon. Thank you!
I love it very nice I'm going to try it ♥️
You have skills! Excellent finish. I learned a lot.
You snapped 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
So beautiful.
Two thumbs up! The dresser you did was wonderful but I was afraid to try it. Now, I’m definitely planning to do this!
Yay!!!
Wowza! That is stunning ❤❤❤❤❤
Love the change
Wow! It’s beautiful.
I have a table in my kitchen with this same top. It has some water damage and the finish is shot. I’m going to try this on my table. Thanks for the video! ❤️
Fantastic tutorial, thank you!
Simply Beautiful
Another great job. I will use this for my table. Thanks! 🙂
That turned out beautiful!!! ❤thanknyiu for taking the time to videotape this so we can all see it.
I have a table that needs to be redone badly, however, the chairs would be a pain. Because it's a spindle 🪑 and that my friends are what has kept me from getting started on it.
Hey Shannon, my last name is Shannon.... I am here to see your work because I need to know how to do my own table
🥰
Would you do a video on how and what you use to clean your brushes after a project. Stains/oils etc
Wow. Incredible finish. Beautiful job
Μπράβο σας υπέροχο !! Πολύ όμορφο !! Ευχαριστώ που μας δείξατε την τεχνική πως να μετατρέψουμε με χρώματα τα έπιπλα μας !
Beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing ....
AMAZING.
It's so beautiful work .
Ok after scouring RUclips for what I want to do with my dining room set.. this is it! The table, chairs & buffet I know what to do but I have a 6 ft tall corner shelf I can't wrap my head around how to make it match without it looking silly.
I absolutely love this!!!! It really looked pretty easy to do!
Wow, it looks amazing. Thank you for sharing, I will be saving this video. 👏👏
Whoaaaa that came really nice!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Amazing!! Im shooting a bar cabinet video as we speak 🎉
Gorgeous work as always. So beautiful how this turned out very inspirational!!
Love your Chanel ❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
Love it. Can't believe how even you manage to get it. Looks very classy and modern. Let us know how it stands up to wear and tear.
Thanks! I definitely will let you know! I already did a rough scratch test to see if I wanted to do another coat of polyurethane and it really held up to my scratching as hard as I could! I didn’t take a key to it but pretty close!
I’m soooo happy I stumbled across this video and your Chanel!!
Found this video at just the right time. I'm doing a table for a friend's kitchen remodel. This was extremely helpful! Thanks 😊
I was curious if you tried it and turned out well?
@@Elena-zi3uq I did try it and she and I both LOVED it. But when I went to apply the top coat my glaze began to "lift" and blend in with my polyurethane leaving me a me. I was heart broken and am still trying to figure out how to fix this issue 😕.
This was sooo inspiring. Thank you
Very nice!
Keep these videos coming.
That is sooooo Pretty.
Ficou muito linda!!!!!!!
