    My dad was a not a keen gamer. But he did love Jazz music. He would ask me about the music that kept playing in the GT2 main menu and at times, he'd ask me to just keep it at the menus for the music. And I'd stop and let it play until he had to go. It was one of my fondest memories because as a child, i really wanted to impress and connect with my dad. He passed away last December, and I can't help but tear up when the music plays. Miss you, Dad.

      @@cattysplat I have the utmost respect for Isamu Ohira. Those Jazz OSTs from GT1 to GT4 were a guilty pleasure. My dad doesn't play the game but as a child, he would tell me to just leave the GT2 Simulation mode disc 2 on the main menu to have the Drift of Air V2 menu theme on loop. Such a blessing to hear a well curated OST!

    Gran turismo was an escape for me. I had a struggling childhood, parents divorced at the age of 5, ever since then had a bad temper, never got any work done, I was a shitty student early in the years, (5-9th grade). We moved everywhere because my step dad dad would always move jobs, so I never had a real friend that I kept for more then a year. Gran Turismo 3 - Gran Turismo 5 were my only constants throughout those years, much more of a release then a game to me. Somewhere I could forget about everything, relax for once. Going back and hearing these just brings tears to my eyes, thinking about how ive spent thousands and thousands of hours of my life on gran turismo. It literally shaped me into the person that I am today, I'm a mechanic now and I love being around cars every single day, there isn't any other job in the world I would want. I haven't played it since Gran Turismo 6, and Ive been dying to play it again. I bought a ps3 and got Gran Turismo 6, but most of gt5 and 6 were experienced online, it just didn't feel the same every time you logged on it just welcomed you with "cannot connect to servers". Now being 18 and a senior in highschool and hearing that gran turismo 7 is coming out just knowing I wont have to feel empty or bored anymore because I can have a game once again that I can pour my heart and soul into like I did with Gran turismo 3, Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo 5, and Gran Turismo 6. Ive been extremely bored since 2018, ive tired playing forza, other games to scratch my itch but nothing beats anything like granturismo does. I'm so excited I can barely contain myself and I honestly looking forward to the brand new memories I will be making with gran turismo 7.
    Thank you Gran Turismo.

      Except GT Sport is fucking garbage and I can't believe I spent full price at release for this piece of shit unfinished demo, to which you need to pay a monthly fee to even play online. And I thought GT5 was the biggest disappointment the series had to offer... boy was I wrong. I sold my PS3 because of how bad GT5 was compared to what was promised. Yet, that shitty game is a treasure of features compared to GT Sport. The only reason I haven't thrown my PS4 Pro out of the fucking window, is because my girlfriend plays on it. A fucking % slider to tune your engine and no single player career mode? Pathetic. GT died on PS4. I have never hated a GT game with this kind of passion until now. Sony in general is ruining everything from their phones, TVs, consoles to games and music.... they used to be top of the line in all of those. Times have changed. You know it's bad when even I would rather hold an Xbox controller. The DS4 makes my hands cramp after 10 minutes because the face buttons are useless now. I played with DS1/2/3 for HOURS STRAIGHT and never even got so much as a light stinging in my fingertips.

    • @garyskippracing
      @garyskippracing 4 года назад +9

      schlafanzyk interesting comments. GT5 was indeed trash, more disappointing then even GT3 for me which I did not like at all. It seems the even numbers are the best games, with credit to the original of course. 2 and 4 were both great games and I really enjoyed 6 on PS3 after the ugliness of 5. Never bought a PS4 and it doesn’t sound like I’m missing much on Sport from your description. Luckily I still have my old machines, I’m guessing GT6 and PS3 will be a nightmare of updates so I’ll probably just head back to GT4 if I fancy giving it another go for old times sake! Despite how far the series may have come, I really miss the old days of offline gaming. Enjoy your racing,

    • @TheFatSandwhich
      @TheFatSandwhich 4 года назад +27

      @@garyskippracing I enjoyed GT5 thoroughly because of the fact I was finally able to race online with my friends, and we spent hours doing so. GT Sport was made clear that it was never going to be a full fledged GT game as they stated before release. While GT Sport had a rough beginning, it's developed into quite a good game now with Polyphony regularly keeping the game updated with new content. Not to mention, the visuals are absolutely stunning and the game play is equally as good. Strong online community and still hours of offline content if that's your preference. I believe GT Sport is still worth a play, especially if you use a steering wheel instead of a controller.

    Man I grew up with these games, played every single one. I'm sitting here totally enveloped by nostalgia and its making me feel very sentimental my friends, so I'm gonna talk about it and share my experiences with anyone willing to hear it.
    I was barely forming memories playing GT1 on the PS1, I would just drive into the walls because I was practically still a baby, this was the game that basically taught me how to use motor functions. I was playing it with my dad since I was born, for a handful of years. My dad taught me how to use a controller and pretty much taught me how to play video games.
    Eventually my cousin gave me his copy of GT2 sometime when I was a small child. I remember this was when I started developing hand eye coordination and actually started winning races (rarely against my family, but I was never getting lapped anymore lol), I also remember playing this one with my cousin often because at first I only got to play it at his house before lending it to me. This was the game I probably played the least in the "golden years" of the franchise due to that (probably played it frequently for less than a year and started playing PS2 games instead due to its launch around that time), but I still remember it fondly.
    It was the release of GT3 that changed everything. I remember going to a local Game Crazy store when I was a kid and seeing the gleaming blue PS2 case shining in the PlayStation section. My dad got it instantly. I remember being totally amazed at how real everything looked, I remember thinking the graphics we're incredible. GT3 was the first time I completed the simulation mode, it truly was a highlight of the early 2000s for me. I started beating my dad at races for once, even though he was still better than me. I remember I started to develop a more refined taste in specific cars around this time. Before I just picked whatever my dad picked. Now I started to learn more about different engines, weight, chassis, layouts etc. I even learned how to drive on manual round this time. I remember being into the Saleen S7, the R32, the Evo V, the SVT Cobra R, and the ridiculous 787B. To be honest I still am... how could I not?
    Then of course GT4 came out. It would be one of the hallmark games of my later childhood. Do I need to explain how awesome this one was? It was an improvement over an already awesome game in basically every department. There is so much more cars! There is so much more tracks! The graphics are somehow even better!? I really thought as a kid that it couldn't get better than that, it looked so real and there was so much to do. I aced this game. I did everything you could do in it, I got every car, every track, got gold on every race and license test you name it. It took years and thousands of hours, but I did it. I had all the time in the world, I was still a kid with no bills, no real responsibilities besides school, keeping my room clean, taking out the trash and doing some dishes here and there. I wish I can go back and sit in front of that bulky, static CRTV in my old room with car posters all over it and do it over again, because I would.
    Eventually GT5 came out. By this time I was already a teenager and eager to conquer another Gran Turismo game. However, I remember the game being a bit of a let down. Maybe I had high expectations, but the game itself had less content and was just a bit underwhelming compared to its predecessor. I didn't play this one that much, probably about as much as I did GT2. At this stage, I started to go back to older GT games instead and beat the ones that I never did when I was a kid (the first 2) as well as acing my GT3 save and just playing 4 for good times because its the best game. One positive that I can take out of GT5 was its amazing soundtrack, its probably one of the best in the entire franchise, it was the main reason why I even chose to boot it up after a couple months of playing. Still, the PS3 era was a low point for Gran Turismo unfortunately.
    GT6 came out a few years later, and I definitely had more fun playing it over the last game. I got my license in real life and started driving round this time. So I played it less frequently, but not because it was a bad game. I just started to enjoy driving for real. It still didn't quite have that charm and soul that the early GT games had, but maybe its just because I was getting older. It was pretty much one of the only reasons why I ended up getting a PS4, as my interest in PC gaming and other racing sims grew around the time the 10s began.
    I never got into GT Sport, so I can't really say anything about it. But I know its a great game many people enjoy playing these days. I instead delved into Assetto Corsa mainly as my sim of choice and enjoy modding the crap out of it. Now in 2021, I have a racing sim setup with a wheel, pedalboard, shifter and ebrake. Just waiting on GT7 coming along and I'm totally ready for it. I'm waiting for the game to drop before even thinking about getting a PS5, as I really don't have much else reasons to get one. I know our boy Kaz and the guys at Polyphony are working really hard to make this one special. Even if the release date was pushed back to 2022, its fine for me. I would rather play a completed game than one that was rushed. 2020 has taught us quite a bit about how important that is.
    Well thanks for reading this wall of text, Gran Turismo is a franchise that we all share in the warmest parts of our memories and is responsible for getting many of us into cars in the first place. I'm glad that a huge part of my childhood is relatable for so much other people all across the world.

    Probably no one will read this, but Gran Turismo 4 was a huge part of my early childhood, which for years I kept thinking was 5 until now. I was 6 or 7, most likely 7, and I had just got a used PS2 from one of my mom's friends for Christmas. One of the games he passed down to me was Gran Turismo 4, and at the time it was one of my most played games ever. I was still new to video games, but this game and some other bike racing games I can't remember were my pass time every day. Something about racing cars around the tracks was very relaxing, the allure of how simple but calm it was. Unfortunately, I don't have any actual specific memories in the game itself, beyond the menus and cover art.
    One day, some friend of my older sister, both around 4-5 years older than me, came over and he wanted to borrow PS2 games. However, he would never let others borrow his PS2 games, likely out of jealousy? My sister bossed me around when I was younger, but I didn't know better, so when she told me to go grab my Gran Turismo 4 game, I did without knowing what would happen. I came outside, she immediately took it and gave it to the kid, who I thought was only borrowing it. He left almost immediately. I asked what he would do with it, but I remember being told he was only borrowing it and that he'd return it soon. So I waited, and waited, and waited.
    I never got the game back. Gran Turismo was no longer in my life, but I also couldn't afford to buy more games (of course, being a kid), but my family would also buy games other than Gran Turismo for me. I got a Wii, but never a PS3 or Xbox 360, at least not much later. What used to be my daily ritual was now gone because of some rat that I think my sister willingly knew he wouldn't return. My dad was into Need For Speed, and so is my step-dad, but it just didn't feel the same. I couldn't gravitate towards the feel of those games the same way, but I couldn't understand why. Needless to say, I resorted to Mario Kart and Sonic Riders instead, but that was about it for me. Only much later did I get into F-Zero, but I no longer had a chill way of relaxing while racing. I might be more into cars if the game wasn't taken from me so early.
    So fast forward to recent times, I'm now into city pop, future funk, that sort of stuff, and the chill aesthetic of the nighttime. Driving down a highway or bustling city at night is soothing for me as it is many people. I wasn't fully sure why, but I think I finally know why: Gran Turismo 4. I probably subconsciously associated the jazz-esque music with the nighttime to the cars of busy cities, thanks to hearing such soothing music from this game at an early age. Of course, having not played it for so long, I'd completely forgotten the music of the game. I'm 20 now, browsing RUclips. But then, this video popped up in my recommendations. I was kinda eager to listen to it, so naturally, I clicked it.
    So few soundtracks have immediately made me felt at home. Although I couldn't remember a single track from hearing it in the game itself by the end of the video (and initially trying to find GT5 music instead of GT4), this has really made my day by itself. I'm not into racing anymore, but I really want to play GT4 all over again, with a new perspective. A missing part of my childhood came back out of nowhere, and I think it has had an indirect influence on me as a person as a whole.
    Thank you for uploading, reading, and thank you, Gran Turismo.

      What a great story and well written. I remember sitting behind my dad at a young age and watching him play Gran Turismo, racing cars I could only dream of owning around circuits like Autumn Ring, Deep Forest Raceway, and Trial Mountain Circuit. I especially used to love watching him try to earn gold medals on the licenses and coming within half a second of the gold medal (The frustration on his face used to tickle me). I would usually stick to my games like Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, and Rayman, etc but one day whilst my dad was out I "borrowed" his Gran Turismo disk (remember the rumor that the disk smelt like burnt rubber?) and struggled to get around the first corner. My dad came home and caught me playing his game, he began watching me, giving me advice on how to find the apex of a corner and when its the right time to brake. From that day on we have always bonded over cars and motorsport, it's been a while since we played a video game together, now that might be because he is over 50 years old now and can't be bothered playing video games, or the fact that around 6 years ago he dug out the old and dusty PS2 console and we played Gran Turismo 4 split-screen... I kicked his ass "The student becomes the master". Thank you Gran Turismo.

      Yeah, I played it for about 19 years before going to "Gran Turismo Sport" on ps4, but after I listen to all the songs of Gran Turismo games produced before Gran Turismo 6 I decided to take PCSX2 and play them another time. Then I will find a .iso of Gran Turismo 5 for the emulator of PS3

      WTF DUDE THAT'S LIKE LITERALLY HOW IT WAS FOR ME. My bother bought a brand new PS2 Slim in 2009 or 2010 I'm not quite sure. It had GT4 bundled with it.

    I just started getting into Gran Turismo. Oh my god. The aesthetics of the games are beautiful, and yet haven’t changed from their original styles. I love the community, the music, the cars. Everything. I only have GT4 but I hope to get a PS5 and GT7 someday 😍 Thanks for being an awesome community to join into!

      I think that you should stay with GT4 and get 3. And if it is not enough, get 1 and 2 (And Tokyo Geneva if you can depending on where you live) GT7 is garbage and 5 and 6 are average (compared to previous titles)

      If you love cars, you'll love the attention to detail. For older systems, GT2 and GT4 are standouts, I can't speak for the later games. GT Sport is different. GT7... might be epic, might not be, we don't know yet.

      That's awesome! Try to make sure you practice your parking. I failed my driving test first time out back in '08 when I was 19; I backed into a cone while backing out. I just went right back the next day and passed. Good luck!

      It’s okay… I learned basic controls of a vehicle quite quickly. And I was able to park it at the side of a road that is barely used. Better yet, I’m only 17! But I do need to work on my clutch control… I did stall the cars engine while trying to operate the clutch while setting off… Twice… Oh well… I’ll get used to it eventually.

    You wouldn't think a high octane racing game would have this type of soundtrack, but now I can't imagine a racing sim without something like this playing in the menus.
    I'm more of an iRacing guy, but I still have this on in the background when I'm queuing up lol

    So many good memories of playing GT2 on a PSOne in the summer heat. Sitting on the floor shirtless, beneath a fan while enjoying a cold drink, blasting the HKS Drag Car around Test Course, pinging off all the walls since you win by straights alone. Also loved doing the little club races with second-hand cars and trying to eek every bit of power out of them that I could. I bought a PS2 for myself when I moved out and got my first retail job in 2009 just so I could keep GT2 and always play it.
