Painting the cabinets would definitely be high on my priority list as well! During your empty home tour, I honestly thought the color on my phone had been changed. Once you showed the room in the gorgeous sunlight however, I told my hubby that regardless of what you said at the time, you would be making changes in less than two months, lol! It’s fantastic to hear how you & Romeo truly feel at home, enjoy every moment of these very special new beginnings. Sending you all hugs, love & prayers for years of wonderful & blessed memories there 🤗💜🙏🏻!

heads up to anyone thinking about thrive market: the prices on that website are total BS. Everything that they say is "-22%" and "on sale!" is the exact same price as they are at a local grocery store. you're not saving money. For erxample the Highkey cookies she showed on the screen were cheaper at my grocery store than they were "on sale" on Thrive market... and you're creating shipping waste.
Love the new sink. Totally agree the cabinets need painting and changing the hardware would make it feel like a major update with moderate work and cost. 💕

If only I could get a guy to do the yard for $30 a week. We paid more than double that quite a few years ago out here in the burbs of Atlanta so my hubby gave them up & does it himself.

Girl, I whole heartedly agree with painting the cabinets. First time I saw them I was like…yes it needs an update but that tile will fit way better with a different color cabinet. May I suggest SW Evergreen Fog as a thought? I know whatever you choose will be amazing!
I love that color! It would be beautiful with the backsplash. And it would look fabulous with brass hardware! Her kitchen may not have enough light, though...
I just looked up your paint color suggestion and it is very pretty. The walls are light, the counters are light, the sink is light, the room gets a lot of light,..... So, I think that color would look great and also tie in the stainless steel appliances nicely. Also, it will add a nice pop of color!

Another pretty green is Pewter Green - also SW. A bit darker, but same vibe.
Hooray! I agree, green IS the colour for the cabinets in that kitchen NOT brown.
Best color EVER!!! What a great shade for cabinets! I have always loved green and just waited it out while gray and white had their time in the spotlight. I knew my green walls, brown leather, and southwest antiques would come back around. I just like what I like whether it's in style or not. ❤
I could definitely see MaCenna getting a vintage wood hutch or dry sink for extra kitchen storage - it would look so cute in there!

The trouble with those Lycra style suits they show every roll and butt issues. Only for the very slim people unfortunately. That counts me out, I would be walking around holding in my flaws, not breathing, uncomfortable and being self conscious, 😬 🤣

I just wanted to add on something when you were talking about the gardener. Don't forget that you are also giving someone a job to earn money and support their family. That's my excuse for when I go out and spend money at the store and I'm sticking to it. LOL!

You realize you don’t need veggie cleaner.. by the time it gets to your table most “dirt” has fallen off. I use a veggie brush and just plant soap and water , or soak in baking soda water … rinse really well. Been doing that since home economics class in the 70’s. None of us have died or been sick from food.
That sink is the very first page of the MaCenna version of, if you give a mouse a cookie 😅

To each his or her own, but I'm probably the only one who likes the stainless steel sink. I don't understand how so many people insist on stainless steel appliances, but stainless sinks are unacceptable. My sink is a super deep, double basin stainless, and I love it because it is utilitarian and so easy to take care of.

You should totally get butcher block counters and do a quick backsplash too! Butcherblock would be so cheap. You could also make a small bar in front of your windows that you could put stools in front of

I remember when you got your nails done for Xmas when you lived in the apartment. I can't believe they were mean to you. You should call and ask for the owner and let them know of your experience. This is helpful because they probably don't know why people are not returning. I always let the owner of an establishment know if I have a bad experience. You're not spending money to be treated rudely. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I was chuckling while watching you rationalize painting the kitchen cupboards. 😆 Personally I don’t consider painting to be renovating because it’s not removing any hardscape components. Drew sprayed his parents’ cupboards in two days-that isn’t a major disruption-but it’s important to come to a compromise that works for the two of you.
Wow $30 for the gardener to do all that! In Australia you'd be paying a few hundred dollars. I just paid $110 to have my standard sized lawn cut - nothing else was done / included.

rinse your fruit in vinegar and water for 5 minutes then dry. it removes the pesticides and waxes. cheaper than a spray

You need to learn from your pool guy. Going back a forth you need him, but emergency wise you need basic ideal. Kind of like checking and refilling you car fluids kind of stuff.
I may have said this before on another video (my memory 😮😅) but you are definitely a tetrachromat -you see more variation in colours than the average person. I am too, so I really appreciate your attention to detail with colour matching/complementing! (And I knew it wouldn’t be long until you started making changes in the house!) I love watching your videos, thankyou for sharing xx

Wait...what?? You only pay $30 a week and he works for an hour? I pay $300 a month which works out to about $75 a week and they're here about 15 minutes. Granted, there are 2 guys working (3 guys about 3 times a year for the really tall bushes), but still!
I’m so happy to hear that you feel like you’ve always lived there. We felt like that when we bought our first home….44 years ago! I like the sink and it’s color and your nails look great! This is a very sweet time of life for you and Romeo, the nesting stage with the person you love. 💕
The upper cabinets look yellow but the bottoms look really white. Maybe it’s the light casting it yellow. Something to think about when you paint new colour.

Hi MaCenna, I’m loving your channel and am so excited to see what you do to your new house in the future. I had an idea… could you possibly lose some length off your dining room ( you did say it was long) use the door off of your kitchen and build a stud wall to creat a pantry? Not sure it would work but I have nails, hammer and tape measure!!! I’m in uk so give me a week to book ticket and pack hahaha!!!

Ok maybe I missed this but are the top cabinets YELLOW? They look completely different from the bottom cabinets on camera but around the microwave you can see the transition and they blend!

The $30 gardeners are the ones we lose business to, my husband and I own a legit landscape business. We are licensed and bonded with real overhead expenses, it sucks to not be able to compete with unlicensed. non-tax paying mow & blow gardeners.

I think a mini makeover is a great idea!! Painting cabinets and walls, maybe even cheap backsplash, it can make it so much more tolerable while you wait for a full reno!

The cabinets don't even look like they are the same color top and bottom - at least not in the video. Tops looks yellowish, bottoms look white.

It’s so crazy how you mention the lighting! We are currently in the process of moving into a new home BUT the home we currently live in also has a lot of privacy and a pool which was a total selling point in the beginning!! NOW I can not wait to get out of here the trees kill me and they block so much natural sunlight that although cozy REALLY took a toll on my mental health! Also the trees with the pool OMG I live in Texas and THE BUGS that will like to gather back there in the summer! Idk what California is like but i highly recommend pest control and mosquito control for you! It won’t solve all the issues that the trees and pool attract but it will help :) Now we’re off to a new home and literally the needs were NO TREES, NO POOL and had to have plenty of natural sunlight!😂 I’m a human that thrives in the sun so lesson learned!
I'm the opposite - I wilt in too bright light, so love the trees and greenery! Even with a pool. The only issue for me with all the foliage is it can make choosing paint colors difficult. Depending on the time of day, a creamy color can have a goldish cast in the morning, a greenish cast in the afternoon (or vice versa depending on the room) and change all over the spectrum!

After the cabinets get painted then the knobs and drawer pulls will need to be changed. Then the lighting then..

Painting isn't construction. He'll live through a simple painting of cabinets. And he's actually pretty lucky - in most cases, it would be her decision, but he'd be doing the work. He just has to avoid it for a few days. Not that he might not help...
Of the first 2 sinks that you bought, I actually own it in black! It was the first I ordered and it wasn't cracked. It could be a manufacturing error or maybe the person who delivered them was careless/weak? I love the sink that I got very much and I enjoy that there isn't a divider in between 😊

Check to see if the fire department in Texas has someone who will come and do the yard. Here in Shreveport La. our fire department has a bunch of guys business called Hidrent. All those honey do's that you don't want to do or can't do. We also have one of our police officers to mow, weed eat, edge and blow the sidewalk and driveway.

Love the sink! TBH (besides how she definitely deserves a REAL break form home renovation) I have been so surprised by how few, and to my mind, little projects she isn't doing or isn't planning to do for years to come. For instance, I was surprised she wasn't changing or painting the hardware to be matching in the bathroom, or things like that that don't seem like big undertakings. Or even just ripping out the carpet in the bedoorm, if you're not replacing it with new carpet is it a lot of work after ripping it out that hold you from doing that for a longtime in the future? I have no clue! I was just surprised it wasn't one she was doing sooner rather than later. And not that she SHOULD undertake these things either lolol just surprise at her not doing them is all. Take breaks and real rest!
But man oh man, can't wait to see when she does do it all though! She's always up to something wonderful.
I have a suspicion she'll be doing those things pretty soon, but I think she's just trying to get things unpacked and situated and looking livable for Romeo since she's heading back to Texas soon. I think she'll do some of those things (like the carpet) when she next comes back to California? Just my guess - I agree that she'll be doing those relatively easy changes sooner.
Fellow home owners, especially if you do your own yardwork: never compare your yard to that of your retired neighbor who works part time at the plant nursery...
Watching your videos is my moment to myself during the day, I make sure my ear phones are charged with no distractions!
I have to laugh becsuse what comes out of that box is fav chips, dried fruit, trash bags, soap I don’t know MaCenna that would work for my family. But with just you two it works. You do you.
Im gonna take a leap and say that none of the tiled countertops will last much either. They painted the grout in the primary bathroom bc they probably were so dirty! Im gonna guess we’ll have a kitchen makeover without new cabinets soon

Paint the cabinets before you put in the new sink. You will want to clean your brushes in the sink and using the old sink to clean them will save you scrubbing later.
