I disagree with Doc's old videos not having many views back in the day. He was heavily linked with Machinima 7-9 years ago and was one of the leading creators getting shout outs most of the time. Comparing views to nowadays yes not that many but i remember watching the Doc when he first started. That's what got me to follow his journey he was doing something no one else was at the time.
You pretty much got it right, his character somewhat resonated in the community back then, he had the old dogs shouting him out like woody, wings, hutch, people like that. He was getting maybe 5-10k views back then, and for those days, that was pretty fucking good.
To be fair though devins point was that success isn’t overnight. Even if those first videos had 2k imagine the work he put in at machinima and prior to end up in the position to get those 2k views. Plus they obviously didn’t have as many because 200k is way lower thank his view count nowadays. Just casually responding to a year old take
As someone who has grown from 0 to ~120 average viewers in the past 5 months, I can confirm that getting up early and streaming timeslots that others won't is key to success on twitch.
you're wrong about ninja, used to watch him back then, he had a lot of followers for the time it was. 500-1k concurrent He was in the small halo niche when it was dying and call of duty was on the rise. He was always the same ninja, well except for fortnight when he cut out derogatory attitude to become more brand-friendly. it was a lack of recognition in a dying game
ive been binge watching these videos for a about 2 weeks now, they are super informative and also super soul crushing at the same time...i think i found my new kink.
You prolly dont give a damn but does someone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my login password. I love any assistance you can offer me
Me a full time teacher, started streaming. it's not that bad, even though i take a lot of work home. I just want it and working hard to keep my audience happy. Streaming for only a week and already tought myself about streaming and animation. Made my own background and animations as well. I don't care about success i just love doing it :)
you're absolutely right about streaming time. it's the same wherever you stream, not just Twitch. i stream on RUclips and my most popular streams for viewership was when I streamed at 9am EST.
I agree with your theory on humanity having a symbiotic relationship in regards to the spectrum of personalities and executive functioning capabilities that we've got. I have such a business-minded brain for marketing and developing relationships but I can't seem to make good content for the life of me. I still try but it's such a pain to actually make a good video and my judgement on what constitutes a good video is all messed up.
Hi Devin, I live in Japan. Your PST times were a bit off for Asia but you were still right. 6am PST is 10pm JST, so it's still a great time slot for late night people over here.
Devin you're a real hero. . . you've gave me hope again. I'm lucky I live in japan and the best time for me to stream is actually 11 PM JST which is 6am PST I'm going to pour it all out thanks for making this content would love to meet you in person! Maybe at a gary vee event haha
Hey devin, been following you for a while now watched a lot of your videos I’m starting out on streaming I know what set me apart I been posting compelling evergreen content on Instagram and Twitter and I wanted to ask if the time zone sweet spot works for mixer as well??
"...If you're not growing, your content is shit.." Yes, but also what about the influx of streamers and an over saturated market? It's like comparing FBA on Amazon. If your product isn't selling, then it's shit. But if there are 1000's of people selling the same product, maybe that's the issue?
Getting into the streaming game is a ton of work and promotion with very little RoI in the early years. Just like any entertainment career, you are looking at a 3 to 5 year grind before you get any real traction. Unless you get lucky or have some serious bank roll to promote with. Even when you do see over night success, further digging will reveal that it is paid views in some way or another.
Make things that you would watch and maybe you’ll find your audience. Sometimes I like to think that my audience might not have been born yet. Or the social circumstances aren’t right. Kinda like how you said dr disrespect was just posting weird videos by himself for a few years and then he caught wind. Sometimes your ship gets stuck in the ocean with no wind and you just have to wait for things to change. It could take months to cross the atlantic in a sail boat.
Unless you are a morning person who wakes up at around 3:30 for the day like you shouldn’t be expected to work a 4AM shift lmao. That’s fucking absurd.
What about BrookeAB overnight success? And my opinion about content like greek or rajj is if you have lot of views dosent mean your content is good, its just exploiting kids with provocatice topics, language, people ect.
I stream on fb gg and I get around 1k to 1.2k concurrent views but i mainly stream around 6am to 10 am and then sometimes in the afternoon 7pm or something it was going great but i stopped due to techinical and internet difficulties but will come back on january 20 for sure!!
its about so much more then hard work, or deserving, streaming has a natural exploitative and abusive nature to it caring about creators and viewers as to make sure its a healthy and enjoyable entertainment doesnt give you more money, even if it resulted in the crazy amounts of money, it will always profit more to abuse your viewers to make them " dependent " on your company and to not help them "grow up" and stunt peoples social capabilities tieing them even more to the streamers and the process of paying for acess and attention
Dude, you have alot of "takes" on things and people that you are uncultured with. Doc was great back in the day, "views" werent as much of a thing as they are today. he had plenty for its time, he worked with machinima for christ sake.
Joseph Dalcour I know right, he keeps saying the old vids are “bizarre” and “weird” but that was literally his character and I think the vids are pretty funny imo, there classics and will always be
dr disrespect taking a hiatus for cheating on his wife changed the gaming world. in his time away, ninja became the sensation he is today and fortnite grew like crazy. if doc stayed, maybe that doesn't happen and maybe fortnite is just another BR.
Just because your stream isn't growing that doesn't mean your content is shit. Come on dude lol you know yourself sometimes it takes forever for someone to blow up...isn't that what this video is about?
The way I interpreted this "Just because your stream isn't growing that doesn't mean your content is shit" comment is that if you are doing the right things (media, time, consistency) for an extended period of time without any measurable growth then you don't have a market fit. It might not mean "shit" content but may mean that it is good content with no market interest.

I watched alot of machinima back in the day but never saw him. Maybe he just wasn't memorable

Why did you spell fortnite the game as fortnight two weeks
ive been binge watching these videos for a about 2 weeks now, they are super informative and also super soul crushing at the same time...i think i found my new kink.
Amazing how a year after he is at 81.6K subscribers when he recorded this video was at 5690 subscribers

@@kristijanblaskovic4028 119k atm damn he went down

@Evan Stephen Instablaster ;)
I wake up at 6 am and stream 7-11am central and work 2nd shift 50-70 hours a week with 1 weekend off.. never give up.
Me a full time teacher, started streaming. it's not that bad, even though i take a lot of work home. I just want it and working hard to keep my audience happy. If only 2019 Devin knew...
knew what?
you're absolutely right about streaming time. it's the same wherever you stream, not just Twitch. i stream on RUclips and my most popular streams for viewership was when I streamed at 9am EST.
I don't have a 3rd monitor but I do have my phone :)

Hey devin, been following you for a while now watched a lot of your videos I’m starting out on streaming I know what set me apart I been posting compelling evergreen content on Instagram and Twitter and I wanted to ask if the time zone sweet spot works for mixer as well??
Well this aged like milk...
Post Malone was overnight success, the only one I can think of.
What's the best time to stream in the UK?
the ending had me rolling 😆🤣
This is incredibly thoughtful, thank you

Imaqtpie is my fucking hero, that goofball actually made his way to Rank 1 NA.
Nuts(wuzzbae) started big, but she decided streaming wasnt for her. Kinda shocking actually.

Being in Australia has the advantage as night time for us is early morning for US

Wait this video was recorded 1 month again? :D I just checked the Faze Situation Conclusion date. :D Great video as always btw.
What about BrookeAB overnight success? And my opinion about content like greek or rajj is if you have lot of views dosent mean your content is good, its just exploiting kids with provocatice topics, language, people ect.
Fuck working for somebody else, i cant do it either

My Face Will get me Famous in 2020 on Twitch.
I'm from europe xD For me 6:00 AM PST is 3PM in my time zone :D
this is so meta
Tbh I think it's fair to say you won't accept the graveyard shift especially as a youngin
Jay Johnston 4 am isn’t a graveyard shift my guy
@@SDREHXC you're reading through a comment section and decide to correct someone on graveyard shifts. You must be a ton of fun at parties.
Jay Johnston uh. Yeah. Are you new to the internet?

Didn't know Devin was a dnb head!
This aged like milk.
This is a Dr D joke, all of Devins commentary and info in general is amazing 😋 (I don’t wanna be torched lol)
First
Probably not
39daph blew up pretty quickly

Clicket Von Baituss
Nah rajj content is pretty much trash lol
Takeaways from this video:
Ninja is bane
also its a true testament to how many little kids are on youtube if ninja has 22 million subs and doc only has 1 million lol
